"I shall devour this arm..." the mask said as it squeezed tighter on Inuyasha's arm.
"You've got to get the Shikon fragment out of the Noh mask!" Kagome shouted at him. "Inuyasha! Attacking the body won't do any good!" The mask chuckled before its arms wrapped around Inuyasha.
"You won't escape m now!"
"It's creepy with you hanging onto my hand like that, you know." Inuyasha tried shaking her off which impressed Souta.
"Wow! He's not hurt at all!" Inuyasha jumped down from the scaffolding with the Youkai still on his arm. He smashed it against one of the equipment and snapped the two sides of the face in half.
"Heh. Took fucking bad, huh?"
"Damn... you..." One side of the face attacked him, and he crushed it in his hand.
"He did it!" Souta exclaimed.
"No," Sesshomaru corrected.
"Sesshomaru's right," I told him. "He only destroyed one side of the mask, but where's the other?"
"It's not over yet, Inuyasha!" Kagome called down to him. "You have to get the fragment of the Shikon no Tama in the other half!" I sensed something behind us seconds before we could hear something sounding like it was trying to say something. We turned to see the other side of the mask rush down towards Kagome. Kagome screamed in shock before I pulled her back by her top.
"What the...?!" I called the wind to me and placed a barrier around us once again to protect us from the mask.
"Victory will be mine..." the mask said. "I will have that girl's body!"
"I don't think so." The mask pushed more onto the barrier, and I struggled to keep it up. The Shikon fragment didn't just give this mask life; it gave it power.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome screamed.
"I'm coming!"
"Fool..." the mask broke through the barrier, and Sesshomaru pulled me away from it and Kagome as it attached itself to her face.
"No!"
"You're too late." I watched Kagome struggle to get the mask off her face.
"Kagome! Let go of the mask!" Inuyasha ordered while drawing his sword. She did as he said and looked up at him.
"Okay! Don't move!" Inuyasha cut the forehead of the mask, not harming Kagome as he did so, and the shard separated from it before the mask disintegrated into nothing.
"He did it!" Souta shouted as Inuyasha placed the fang across his shoulders.
"Kagome-"
"Are you okay?" I asked her as I pulled myself from Sesshomaru's grasp and knelt in front of her.
"Uh... yeah... I'm alright. What about you?" I placed my hand on my shoulder and smiled at her.
"It's just a scratch; I'll be okay." I looked out over the city as the sun began to rise.
"Oh no!" Kagome screamed. "Today's the day of the math re-take!"
"That seems unimportant right now!" I shouted at her as she ran back to the stairs.
"Inuyasha, you go back before me! Bye!" And with those words said, she was gone.
"Math re-take?" Sesshomaru asked, and I sighed.
"A test for school," I explained to him. "I have one too, but..." I looked out over the city again. I knew what we did in the past would affect our time, but I never thought we'd be attacked here. "Things have changed now."
I'd decided to skip the rest and went straight home with Sesshomaru at my side. He seemed to want to see more of the city I lived in. We walked back to the house, and I stepped inside.
"You're home early." I smiled at my grandmother who looked behind me as Sesshomaru entered. "What happened to your shoulder?"
"A Noh Mask attacked us with a fragment of the Shikon no Tama in it," I told her. "I'm going to pack." I left Sesshomaru with my grandmother before going to pack.
Once I was done, I went back to the living area and found my father sitting across from Sesshomaru.
"I didn't hear you come home," father said.
"I was trying not to wake you or mother." I sat next to Sesshomaru, placing my bag next to me on the ground.
"Why aren't you at school for your re-test?"
"I decided it wasn't as important as what I should be doing," I explained. "Everything that happens in the past effects my life here. I don't want anyone getting hurt here because of what Kagome or I do back then."
"You shouldn't drop your responsibilities in this time simply because you believe what you're doing in the past seems more important than your life here," he ordered. "You brought a Youkai into my home." Father glared at Sesshomaru.
"He wished to see where I came from," I told him. "I've been traveling with him in the past."
"Then, of course, he wished to see where you came from." We all turned to look at my grandmother as she entered the room. She sat next to her son with a smile on her face. "Are you all packed and ready to leave?" I nodded to answer her question before turning back to my father.
"Go," he ordered and I smiled at him. "But don't forget once you've found who you're looking for, you're to return home immediately."
"Who're you looking for?" Sesshomaru asked me.
"The Youkai my Great-Aunt fell in love with before she died."
