It was a few days after Alex's entrance exam. He had gotten his school uniform and found out who his teacher was. He had also talked to Leo and Luna a bit, and would actually ask his dad to bring him to the park so he could play with them and duel them. Alex was about to start dueling Leo.

Both: Let's Duel!

Alex: 4000 LP

Leo: 4000 LP

Leo: I'll go first, and I summon Morphtronic Celfon in attack mode.

A large cell phone appeared on the field before it transformed into a robot.

Level 1/Earth/Machine

ATK&DEF 100

Leo: And next I use his effect. Since he's in attack mode, a number is chosen at random from 1 to 6, and then I can look at that many cards from the top of my deck, and summon a morphtronic monster I find.

Lights on Celfon's chest flashed randomly before stopping on the number 4.

Leo: Sweet, I get to look at 4 cards!

He looked at his cards and pulled one out.

Leo: I play Morphtronic Magnen in attack mode.

A large magnet appeared before changing into a robot like Cellfon had.

Level 3/Earth/Thunder

ATK&DEF 800

Leo: I place one card face-down and end my turn.

Alex: My turn, I draw. I play Evil HERO Flare Mage in attack mode.

Level 3/Fire/Fiend

ATK 1200/DEF 800

Alex: And now, attack Celfon with Nova Sphere!

Flare Mage charged a ball of fire at the end of her staff and launched it at Leo's monster.

Leo: We interrupt this attack to bring you a special trap card. Morphtransition negates your attack and then changes the battle mode of the monster you attacked.

The fireball died out and Celfon changed back into a cell phone, turning blue.

Alex: Not bad, I set one card face-down and end my turn.

Leo: I draw. First I use Celfon's effect. When he's in defense mode, a number between 1 and 6 is chosen randomly, and then I look at that many cards from the top of my deck and put them back in the same order.

This time, the light stopped on 3. Leo looked at his cards and smiled before putting them back on top of his deck.

Leo: And now I switch Cellfon to attack mode and use his effect.

This time it landed on 2.

Leo: I summon Morphtronic Magnen in defense mode. And now I'll switch my other Magnen to defense mode.

The two monsters then turned the ends of their magnets towards each other and a wall of electricity formed between them.

Alex: What in the world?

Leo: It's Magnen's special ability. When it's in defense mode, you can only attack it, but since there are 2 Magnens in defense mode, you can't attack any of my monsters.

Alex: Hmm, not bad.

Leo: Thanks. And now I play Morphtronic Datatron in attack mode.

A large lighter appeared in front of him before transforming.

Level 3/Fire/Pyro

ATK 1200/DEF 600

Leo: Next I play the continuous spell Gadget Box. With this, I can summon a gadget token each turn, but after I use this effect 3 times, Gadget Box is destroyed.

Level 1/Earth/Machine

ATK&DEF 0

Leo: Next I play Datatron's special ability. By tributing my gadget token, you take 600 points of damage.

The gadget token dissolved into particles of light before being absorbed into Datatron's lighter nozzle on his head, before being launched as a stream of fire at Alex.

Alex: 3400

Leo: I end my turn.

Alex: My turn, I draw. Perfect, I play Dark Fusion, so I'll fuse Evil HERO Flare Mage with Evil HERO Stone Guardian to summon Evil HERO Infernal Sniper in attack mode.

A large bulky female with a cannon attached to her right arm appeared in front of him.

Level 6/Fire/Fiend

ATK 2000/DEF 2500

Alex: And now Flare Mage's effect activates, and since Sniper is level 6, you take 600 damage.

Leo: 3400

Alex: And next I play Dark Calling. This card lets me summon a fusion monster by banishing the monsters I need from my hand or graveyard. So I banish Stone Guardian from my graveyard and Voltage from my hand in order to summon Evil HERO Lightning Golem.

A large monster with a red gem in his chest and lightning shaped spikes coming from his shoulders appeared on his field.

Level 6/Light/Fiend

ATK 2400/DEF 1500

Alex: And now I use his effect. Once each turn, Lightning Golem can destroy any monster on the field.

Leo: Oh no!

Alex: Lightning Golem, destroy Magnen with Voltic Ball!

Lightning Golem threw a ball of black electricity at Leo's monster, destroying it.

Alex: Now my monsters can attack. Infernal Sniper, attack the remaining Magnen with Shadow Bullet!

Infernal Sniper charged a ball of black energy in her cannon before launching it at Magnen.

Alex: And now Lightning Golem, Attack Morphtronic Datatron with Dark Lightning Strike!

Lightning Golem extended his hand and launched a stream of black lightning at the monster, destroying it.

Leo: 2200

Leo: I can still win!

Alex: I'm afraid this duel is over Leo. I play my face-down card, the quick-play spell Dimension Explosion. With this, I can return my Lightning Golem to my Extra Deck and bring Voltage and Guardian back.

Lightning Golem vanished and was replaced by Guardian and Voltage, both of whom were in attack mode.

Alex: And since Dimension Explosion was a quick-play spell, it's still my battle phase. Voltage attack Cellfon with Static Blast!

Voltage charged a ball of blue electricity before launching it at Cellfon.

Leo: 700

Alex: And now, Guardian, attack with Stone Smash and end this duel!

Guardian smashed his fist into the ground and pulled up a large rock before throwing it at Leo.

Leo: 0

Winner: Alex

Alex: And that's game. That was a great duel Leo.

Leo: Yeah, I just wish I could beat ya once.

Alex: Keep working at it and you might beat me one day.

He could tell Leo had a lot of potential, he just needed to keep working hard.

Jaden: Alex is right Leo, I can see you have great potential as a duelist. You remind me of my old friend Syrus. When he first came to Duel Academy, people didn't think he'd ever be a great duelist, but he became one of the best pros of our age. Keep working hard and I'm sure you'll become a great duelist one day.

None of them knew it, but they were being watched. Not by a person, but by a small spider. This wasn't an ordinary spider though, this one was under the control of Roman.

Devack: So how powerful is the boy Roman?

Roman: It's hard to say, we have yet to see him face a truly powerful foe. It has become clear that the boy must be tested.

Devack: And if the boy fails?

Roman: Then the power he wields is nothing compared to ours. But if he succeeds, then that confirms that we must turn him to our side by any means necessary.

Devack: I see. Who shall duel the boy and how shall we get him alone?

Roman: Let me worry about that.

Meanwhile at the Arcadia Movement.

?: Sayer sir, I've found something.

Sayer: What is it?

?: Look at this footage from the Duel Academy entrance exams.

Sayer: What's so special about it?

?: Look at the monsters used in this duel.

The woman then zoomed in on Alex's duel with Heitmann.

Sayer: Wait, are those Evil Hero cards?

?: Yes sir. The boy who used them is Alexander Yuki, the son of former pro duelist Jaden Yuki.

Sayer: So then the boy has inherited the power of the Gentle Darkness. This is most interesting. Keep an eye on him.

?: Yes sir.
