Alex had parted ways with Yusei and everyone else after Greiger was defeated and was heading towards the old reactor.

Alex: It's time Roman. I'm coming at you with everything I've got and more.

He looked behind him and saw Kalin's mark of the giant floating in the sky.

Alex: Good luck Yusei.

Timeskip

Yusei had defeated Kalin and activated the control unit.

Yusei: That's two Dark Signers down and three to go.

Suddenly one of Roman's spiders landed on Trudge, putting him under the Dark Signer's control.

Roman: Yusei Fudo.

Yusei: What do you want Roman?

Roman: Nothing much. I just wanted to invite you to watch the final duel of your friend Alex before he becomes a Dark Signer.

Yusei: He'll defeat you.

Roman: We shall see. If you want to see our duel, I suggest you hurry. Your friend will arrive at my location before too long.

The spider vanished, releasing Roman's hold on Trudge.

Luna: Yusei, do you think Alex will win?

Yusei: I'm sure of it. I hope I'm right, because if Alex loses, we may never win this war.

Meanwhile Alex had arrived on site and opened a path using a device Goodwin had given him before he left New Domino.

Alex: Here I come Roman.

He followed the path and wound up in a room he recognized from when Roman had captured him during the Fortune Cup.

Alex: Come out Roman. It's time to settle this.

Roman: Indeed it is.

Alex: Before we duel, I want an answer. The last time we met you said something about a deal I made.

Roman: Indeed. Although you yourself didn't make the deal, your past self did.

Alex: What do you mean my past self?

Roman: All in due time. I sense your friends are arriving, why not greet them? Follow me to the location of our final duel.

Alex: Fine, but know that if you're leading me into a trap I'll eliminate you.

Roman turned and led him to a rope bridge that spanned a large chasm. Alex walked to the other end and prepared himself to duel.

Yusei: Alex!

Alex turned to where the voice came from and saw Yusei, Crow, Luna, Leo, and Trudge running towards him.

Alex: Stay back. This duel is mine.

Suddenly a loud noise came from below them as the old reactor was activated, bathing them in a multi-colored light.

Alex: That's more than just the old reactor isn't it?

Roman: How right you are. We are sitting above a gate to the Netherworld.

Alex couldn't explain why, but this energy felt strangely familiar to him.

Roman: Sensing something familiar?

Alex: And what if I am?

Roman: That would make sense after all. But enough talk, it's time for our destinies to unfold.

Both: Let's duel!

Alex: 4000 LP

Roman: 4000 LP

Roman: I'll go first. I place one card face-down and end my turn.

Alex: A single face-down? What could Roman be planning? Well, I'll only find out by attacking. It's my move. Since there are no monsters on my field, I special summon Evil HERO Infernal Prodigy in attack mode.

Alex: And next, I sacrifice him to summon my Evil HERO Galactic Ruler. You see, even though he's level 7, I can summon him with 1 sacrifice if I use an Evil HERO.

Alex: Now, attack directly!

His monster rushed Roman and delivered a swift punch to his chest, knocking him back.

Roman: 1500 LP

Yusei: Way to go Alex!

Leo: Not only did he land the first hit, he took away more than half of Roman's life points.

Roman: However now the effect of my Wolf in Sheep's Clothing trap card activates. Since I took damage from a direct attack, I can summon a level 1 monster from my hand along with a monster with the same name from my deck, so I summon two Dark Spiders in defense mode.

Alex: I activate Galactic Ruler's special ability. When he inflicts damage to my opponent's life points, I can add either an Evil HERO monster, a copy of Dark Fusion, or a spell that lists Dark Fusion in its card text from my deck to my hand, and I choose my Evil HERO Dark General. I set a card face-down and due to Prodigy's effect, I can draw 1 card. I end my turn.

Leo: No attack points? There's no way he can beat Alex with those.

Luna: They're not for attacking. He set himself up to summon his Earthbound Immortal.

Roman: It's my turn. And I activate the field spell Spider Web.

Alex: Just great.

Roman: You can guess what happens next. I sacrifice my two Dark Spiders to summon Earthbound Immortal Uru!

Level 10/Dark/Insect

Roman: And don't forget, since a field spell is in play, Uru can attack you directly. Strike with Dark Thread!

Alex: Not so fast Roman, I'm activating an old favorite of my mom's, Hallowed Life Barrier! By discarding one card, all damage I take this turn becomes 0.

A barrier appeared between himself and Uru's attack.

Roman: So you managed to dodge that one. Well, your monster won't dodge this. I play the Fissure spell card to destroy your Galactic Ruler. With him gone, I place 2 cards face-down and end my turn.

Alex: My move, I draw. And I summon my Dark General in attack mode.

Level 4/Dark/Fiend

ATK 1600/DEF 1300

Alex: Now I activate his special ability, allowing me to add an Evil HERO monster from my deck to my hand, like my Evil HERO Stone Guardian. Now Dark General, attack Roman directly!

Leo: Alright, if this connects, Alex wins!

Roman: Which is why I play the Roar of the Earthbound continuous trap. If you attack with a monster that's weaker than my immortal, your monster is destroyed and you take half of its attack points as damage.

Alex: 3200 LP

Alex: I activate the effect of my Evil HERO Stone Guardian. Since an Evil HERO was destroyed, I can summon him from my hand to protect me. I place one card face-down and end my turn.

Roman: Then it's my move. How long do you think you can defend yourself from my Earthbound Immortal's attacks?

Alex: Long enough to beat you.

Roman: We'll just see about that. Uru, attack him directly!

Alex: I activate the trap Dimension Wall! With its effect, you take the damage from this battle instead of me, which means you lose Roman.

Roman: I activate my own trap card, Wiretap, which means your trap is negated and shuffled back into your deck.

Alex: What?!

Uru's attack struck him, knocking him onto his back.

Luna: Alex!

Alex: I'm okay.

Roman: But how long will that be the case. One more attack from my immortal and you will lose this duel and become a Dark Signer.

Alex: We'll see about that Roman.

Roman: I end my turn.

Alex: It's my move, and due to Stone Guardian's special ability, I can add a copy of Dark Fusion to my hand. Where is it? That one card is all I need to turn this duel around. Well, until I draw it, I have to hold out. I play the spell Foolish Burial Goods. With it I can send one spell or trap from my deck to my graveyard, and I choose my Transaction Rollback. With that, I end my turn.

Suddenly he could hear Roman laughing.

Alex: What's so funny?

Roman: It's just so funny to me how hard you're fighting against a fate that you yourself set into motion.

Alex: What do you mean I set it into motion? I don't have anything to do with this.

Roman: On the contrary, you have everything to do with this.
