~Dominic~

I push my sister behind me a little more than she already is. I nock my bow, ready to kill whatever just made that tree branch rustle, But nothing comes out.

"Nick, it's nothing." Tori whispers in a quiet voice from behind me. I can hear the worry in her voice, as if she's hesitant herself.

A pile of brush rustles and a squirrel comes running out. My sister let's out a small yelp as I shoot the rodent and claim it for dinner. I hear both our stomachs rumble, we haven't eaten in quite a few days.

I don't waste anytime starting to skin it. "Ain't you hungry sis?" I tease, knowing she hates guts and blood.

"Goin' for a walk, later asshole." She jokes before walking away with her knife in hand.

My back is to the direction she left in and I start to set a little cooking space to make the squirrel, well, edible. I'm sure we'd eat it raw if it came down to it. I whip around at the sound of a branch cracking, it is my sister, but there's five strangers with her.

"This yo brotha?" An African American man says, nodding to me.

"Yes, Nick, put the knife down." She says to me in a halfhearted tone.

I lower it, slowly and hesitantly. "Who are these people?" I direct towards her.

"That's T-dog," She points to the African American man, "That's Maggie, Rick, Daryl, and Glenn." She pauses, her eyes back on me. "Rick's wife is pregnant, I'm an OB, I promised we'd help them."

"How far along is she?" I ask after a minute.

"Seven months now." Rick says.

I nod, motioning Tori tome do we could talk privately. "Tori, you can't just go around helping people! You're a doctor. Do you know how precious that is these days?!" I whisper shout.

She looks up at me with her big blue eyes, the ones that are the exact opposite of mine. "I became a doctor so I could help people. I have the chance to help someone give birth, I'm gonna take it. They have a bigger group, more people to help. Safety in numbers, Nick."

I mull this over, hating my final decision more than our numerus foster parents. "Fine." My 22 year old sister jumps up and down in excitement, turning to the new people.

"He said yes!" She exclaims.

"Thank you." Rick says, a smile on his face. But after a second his smile fades and he's all business. "We're not really buckled down anywhere, we like to stay on the move. Right now we're staying in an old bar, it's safe. We have a gaurd up 24/7."

"How many others are in your group?" Tori asks, falling in stride beside me as we follow the new people.

"9." Glenn says.

"10." Rick corrects.

"Well, there will be ten." Maggie says with a smile. I see Tori smile too.
