Hi so I am still not sure on this story and if people are still really into it, based on reviews. Anyways, this idea came to me when watching a Buzzfeed youtube video on a date night in. And because we all need some Vauseman Fluff right now. Here you go, a little cutesy date night!
Enjoy!
We Found Love
date night in…
"Do you think we're one of those boring couples now?"
"Boring!?" gawked Alex.
"Yeah."
"No, I don't think we're boring. Do you think we're boring?!" pressed Alex towards Piper, one eyebrow raised. She didn't know where this was coming from. She was perfectly content with their relationship. Sure they spent more time in their sweatpants in the confines of their apartment watching old tv shows and stuff than actually going out-out. But she didn't think that made them boring. It was the natural shift of any adult relationship. Especially one as long and complicated as their own. They went from not seeing each other for a number of years to being back together and living together within a week or so.
"No….not boring per-say!" replied Piper quickly, trying to explain herself properly.
"Do you think I'm boring? Are you bored of me already, Chapman," teased Alex, lightly?
Piper frowned a little at this. She knew that Alex was only joking but it did hit too close to home for her, just a little. She was reminded briefly of how she left Alex all those years ago.
"I'm joking," whispered Alex as she noted the look on her girlfriend's face. She reached out on the couch and took her hand, giving it a reassuring touch.
Piper pursed her lips and looked down at their interlocked fingers on the couch pillow. "I know." She looked back up at Alex and gave her a small smile.
A blanket of silence fell over the couple for a second before Piper was speaking again. "I just feel like things between us have gotten...too comfortable"
"Too comfortable? Isn't comfort a good thing?" asked Alex, her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion.
"Yes. It is. Fuck! I'm not making any sense."
"No, you're fucking not."
"I'm just saying. That all we do nowadays Alex is stay at home. I'm bored! I want to go out!"
Alex just stared at the blonde for a good second with a bemused look on her face before letting out a hearty chuckle. "All this…" she waved her free hand suggestively in the air. "Is just about wanting to go out like on a fucking date?"
"Yes!" cried Piper, suddenly feeling embarrassed. Had she really been making a big deal about nothing? She thought as Alex continued to smirk at her. "Alex! It's not funny!"
Alex just shook her head and tried to suppress the smile on her face. If Piper wanted to go out on a date, all she had to do was ask. She didn't have to make some big speech as she'd just done. But of course, it was Piper she was talking about. The blonde had never been good at being subtle.
"So, what do you think?" pressed Piper, nervously. She knew it was stupid to be asking her girlfriend of a year if they could go on a date.
"Honestly?"
"Yes. What do you honestly think?"
"I think that I'm perfectly fine with staying at home. Not! That I don't want to go on a date or whatnot. It's just..I'm content right now...with my girl and my dog...at home in our apartment," Alex spoke slowly as if choosing the right words that would get her point across but not upset Piper. Alex used to love going out and partying. Maybe it was an age thing. Maybe it was going to prison and realizing she didn't need much in life? She wasn't sure about when her mind had shifted. She still liked going out occasionally, however, she was perfectly comfortable and content with staying at home and do nothing.
"You sounds like a country song," murmured Piper, the corners of her lips twitching upwards. "With my girl and my dog…"She drawled out in a bad attempt at a deep, southern voice.
"Please, never do that again!" stated Alex with a smirk. She leaned closer to Piper on the couch and kissed her, cupping the side of her face with her free hand.
It was Friday night. Date night.
It was a few days later since that conversation on the couch and Alex had a surprise up her sleeve. She had told Piper that they were going to go out to her favourite restaurant after she came home from work. However, that wasn't the case at all.
Alex was planning on having a date night in. That way they got the best of both worlds, Piper got her date and Alex could continue to be a homebody at home.
The brunette glanced at the clock on the stove, she'd an hour to go before Piper came home. Her eyes shifted around the kitchen, where all the food was ready and prepped. She just had to put in in the oven and she wouldn't do that until closer to the time.
"So, I guess we just wait," she spoke partially to herself and partially to Angie, who looked up at her and wagged his tail. He let out a small bark of approval like he understood what Alex was talking about.
Alex adjusted her glasses on her nose and smiled down at the dog. He let out a little happy whine before pressing his nose into her palm and nudging it gently. Brown eyes looked up into her own, begging for attention.
Alex let out a chuckle before dropping to her knees and began to scratch him behind the ears with both hands. She murmured sweet nothings at the dog, who tails began to thump happily against the floor. He licked at Alex's face in pure joy, as if to say thank you for the scratches. If Piper was here she would say that she was pathetic. That Angie was wrapped around her finger. Alex would pretend to be offended like she always did. But secretly, she knew it was true. Angie was wrapped around her finger.
She loved this damn dog.
Just like she loved Piper.
They were both hers and she wouldn't have it any other way.
She continued to pet the dog for a moment longer before standing up again. "Wanna go for a walk?" she asked Angie, in a singsong voice.
The dog let out a loud bark in approval before moving towards the door. He looked back at Alex as if to say, "Come on! Let's go!"
They returned back from their walk fifteen minutes later. Giving Alex the perfect amount of time to put dinner in the oven and make herself more presentable.
She immediately unhooked Angie's leash from his collar as they stepped back into the apartment. Angie wagged his tail happily as Alex did so. The moment the dog was free, he went straight for his bed, finding his favourite toy, and laid down for a nap.
The brunette hung the leash onto the small hook by the door and took off her shoes before making her way into the kitchen area. She turned on the oven. As she waited for it to preheat, she washed her hands and made sure that everything was ready to go. She felt the fluttered of nerves began in the pit of her stomach at how this night would go.
Piper was surprised to come home to an apartment smelling of chicken, lemon, and rosemary. The blonde stood by the doorway, a bemused expression on her face. Why was Alex cooking? she thought irritated to herself.
"Hey Baby," greeted Alex warmly as she came out of the bedroom and noticed Piper. The brunette adjusted the bracelet on her wrist as the corners of her lips tugged up into a grin at seeing her girlfriend.
"Hi," whispered Piper as her eyes met Alex across the room. "Are you cooking somethin'? I thought we were going out tonight." She couldn't help but sound a little disappointed as she began to take off her shoes.
"You look nice," commented Piper as Alex came towards her. They had decided to pick out each other's outfits for the night. A little feeling of warmth filled the blonde's chest at seeing Alex dressed in the burgundy chiffon spaghetti strap top and white jeans she had picked out for her. It gave her a little thrill to see Alex wearing something other than black.
"Thanks, my girlfriend picked it out," smirked Alex as she leaned in for a kiss.
"She has good taste," murmured Piper as she kissed Alex back. They stood there for a second, kissing softly before she pulled away. She ran her hands down Alex's bare arms, feeling soft fuss underneath her pads. Her blue eyes looked up into Alex's green ones.
"So what's going on? Why are you cooking?"
"I thought maybe instead of going out...we would have a date night in," Alex spoke softly, her eyes searching earnestly into Piper's for any trace of disappointment or annoyance.
Piper let out a brief sigh, but she quickly shoved all feelings of disappointment aside. Although she'd been looking forward to a night out, it's had been a long day, and staying in didn't seem that bad, after all. Plus whatever Alex was cooking smelt like heaven to her at the moment. Her mood immediately pick up as she continued to get lost in Alex's searching eyes.
"Ok," whispered Piper.
"Ok?"
"Ok!" laughed Piper as she wrapped her arms around Alex's waist. She titled her head and reclaimed Alex's lips between her own.
They got lost in the kiss for a couple of seconds before Alex pulled away and placed a hand on Piper's chest.
"Go change," she whispered, rubbing the tip of her nose over Pipers. She knew if they stayed there longer, kissing that they wouldn't make it to dinner.
"Fine, " huffed Piper, as if she knew what Alex was thinking. She tried to lean in for another kiss but Alex batted her away.
"Pipes!" Laughed Alex. "Go change!"
Piper smiled deviously before heading towards the bedroom to change. She stopped briefly to pat a sleeping Angie.
Alex smirked watching as Piper disappeared into the bedroom before adding the final touches room. She had earlier put a number of candles around the apartment. She then went around lighting them.
The sun was still up but Alex closed the curtains over the main large windows of the apartment. The sunlight filtered through the thin materials of the curtains giving the apartment a glowy yellow hue emphasized from the light of the candles.
As she adjusted the flowers she had brought earlier in the vase, she was suddenly overcome with nerves. She hadn't felt this nervous since she confessed to Piper her true feelings to her a year ago on the eve of her wedding. Instinctively, she touched the ring in the front pocket of her jeans. She had a pretty good feeling that Piper would say yes, but there was still the slim chance she would say no. They hadn't talked about marriage...ever! A sense of dread twisted painfully in the pit of her stomach at the thought. No. This was the right thing. She wanted this, she thought firmly. Brushing all thoughts of dread aside. Even if Piper said no, which she hoped she wouldn't, she had been rejected before from the blonde. Alex could handle Piper turning her down...if she did. It would fucking hurt, but she would survive...they would survive it.
"Well look at you," admired Alex as she snapped her attention onto Piper who had just emerged from the bedroom. She nervously reached up and adjusted her glasses on her nose as of to see Piper better.
Piper was dressed in Alex's favourite dress, a cobalt blue satin slip dress.
Piper gave Alex a little smile before doing a twirl. Showing off the low back of the dress. The dress was the definition of sexy with how the sleeky material clung to every curve of Piper's body, leaving very little to the imagination.
She was barefoot and had her shoulder-length hair down in loose waves.
"Come sit," spoke Alex pulling out a chair from the table. " is almost ready."
Piper walked towards the table and gave Alex a brief kiss on the lips before taking a seat.
"Do you want wine?" Asked Alex over her shoulder before heading into the kitchen.
"Yes, please." Replied Piper. She watched Alex briefly as she uncorked a bottle of white wine and poured out two glasses.
"What's with all the candles and flowers?" Asked Piper as she took in the soft candlelight of the room for the first time.
"What? You don't like it?" Frowning mockingly as she came back to the table and handed Piper a glass of wine. "It supposed to be romantic."
"Thanks. No, I like it very much. It's just unexpected that's all." Admitted Piper looking up at Alex.
The brunette just smiled before leaning down and capturing Piper's mouth into a tender kiss. Alex wondered if she should do it now and get it over with. She didn't have a plan in mind, she was just going to ask when the timing seemed right. But maybe she should wait a small voice said in the back of her head, maybe until they had at least eaten dinner? She knew if she proposed now and Piper did say Yes that they wouldn't make it to dinner. So instead, she held back, continuing to share a kiss with Piper, allowing the sensation of her tongue against her own to take over. Only breaking part when the timer for the oven went off, suddenly.
Startling not only them but Angie too. Angie barked suddenly from being awoken.
The couple shared a startled look before breaking out into laughter.
"Well, that's dinner," whispered Alex as she straightened her back and went over to the oven and immediately shut off the timer.
Piper meanwhile, got up and tried to calm Angie down with a milk bone treat. His barks settling down into happy little whines.
Bruno Major's Nothing played in the background as the sun began to set. The hazy yellow lightning turning to dark pink in the room, eventually turning to a dimness only leaving the light from the candles to fill the room.
Empty dinner plates and wine glasses were left on the table as neither of them could be bothered to clean up just yet. They were both so full from dinner.
"That was delicious Al," spoke Piper patting her stomach lightly. "Way better than going out."
"Thanks, whispered Alex. She looked longingly at Piper, watching as the blonde tucked a pierce of hair behind her ear and finished off the remainder of her wine. Her heart began to flutter nervously as her top teeth grazed her bottom lip briefly. She knew this was the moment she'd been waiting for. Suddenly the need to ask became too pressing in her mind.
Pushing back her chair suddenly, Alex rose to her feet. Piper looked up at her with a bemused expression.
"Let's take a picture," suggestive Alex as she went over to the front door where her work equipment was. She'd borrowed a camera and a tripod from work the other day. She wanted to document this.
Piper laughed nervously at seeing the camera and tripod. It wasn't like they never took pictures. They did. It was just never with a professional camera. They usually just used their phones.
"I was wondering why you brought that home," spoke the blonde, watching as Alex set up the camera.
Alex didn't say anything as she adjusted the settings and looked through the viewfinder, making sure that everything was in the frame.
"Smile," spoke Alex as she looked up over the camera and at Piper.
Piper again couldn't help but laugh at what Alex was suggesting. She was suddenly feeling nervous underneath the lens of the camera.
Alex smirked as she caught Piper mid-laugh. She loved capturing candid shots of people. She continued to take a couple more shots of Piper before putting the camera on self-timer.
"Okay...30 seconds," she cried before quickly making her way over to Piper. She smirked as Piper met her eye, before unexpecting sitting in Piper's lap. Again, Piper laughed as the picture was being taken.
"Let's take another," spoke Alex as she removed herself from Piper and went to go check the picture. She looked at the picture briefly, "You're laughing in it!"
"What? You know I'm not good at taking pictures," replied Piper.
"One more," added Alex. She pretended to put on self-timer, but this time, she changed the settings to video mode.
"Okay," cried Piper. "I'm ready this time!"
Alex smiled at her softly as she came around the camera and stood with her back to it. She licked her lips nervously as her hand went for the ring in the front pocket of her jeans.
The smile from Piper's face slowly faded away into confusion as Alex continued to stand in front of her. "I thought we were taking another photo...oh!" Her voice trailed off as Alex got down on one knee and held out the ring to her.
"Piper Elizabeth Chapman. I know this may come to a shock for you. We haven't really discussed marriage yet. However, our relationship has seen the good and bad over the years that we've been together and...sadly apart," she broke off slightly to find the right words. She hadn't exactly practiced what she was going to say. She was kinda winging it here.
"Alex…"
Alex shook her head and cut Piper off. She needed to say this now or else she would lose the nerve. "Piper, I love you."
"I love you too," whispered Piper whose eyes began to fill with tears. She hadn't been expecting this and now that it was happening she couldn't wait to give Alex her answer.
"I want to be with you forever...will you marry me?"
"Yes!" whispered Piper "Yes! Yes!" She dropped down onto her knees in front of Alex. She cupped the sides of Alex's face and crushed her mouth passionately to hers. Her heart seemed to grow double the size as love and emotion overwhelmed her.
Alex, who had been holding her emotions up until this point let out a happy sob as she kissed Piper back. Relief and adoration consumed her they got lost into the kiss. Both were too preoccupied to remember about the ring that Alex still held in her hand.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
They pulled apart briefly, gazing longingly into each other's eyes.
"Oh my god," whispered Alex. "I forgot about the fuckin' ring."
Piper laughed at this realization. She sat back on her heels as her eyes drifted to the ring. It was a 2.03-carat blue sapphire oval cut ring with a gold band. She couldn't help but admire how it matched her dress.
"Very Princess Di," observed Piper as Alex slid the ring onto her left ring finger. It fit perfectly.
"It was my grandma's," added Alex, meeting Piper's eye.
"It's beautiful," whispered Piper as her voice filled with emotion and she looked down at the ring now adored on her finger.
