We Found Love

married

And just like that.

They were married.

They were woman and wife.

Wife and wife.

After telling their friends and family of their engagement, they both craved that next big step in their relationship. They realized that they didn't want to wait long and neither wanted a big, lush, expensive wedding. Piper had almost had all that and didn't want a repeat of it.

It was all too much.

Her wedding, this time, would be simple and easy. She didn't need all the extra bells and whistles and fluff that came with weddings these days. She just wanted Alex. She was all that she needed.

And the same went for Alex.

The brunette just wanted to marry her best friend, lover, and partner in crime. She didn't care if it was in a big ceremony or at the courthouse. She would do whatever Piper wanted, as long as it ended up with her being her wife. She didn't give a fuck about how it was done.

So they decided to elope.

It happened two- almost three weeks after the night of their engagement. It was the second Tuesday of August. A random date, really. It didn't have any special meaning to them or their relationship. And maybe that was why they chose that particularly random Tuesday as their wedding day. It was a blank slate. A fresh start. The mark of a new beginning in their relationship.

The air hung heavy with the scent of wet soil from the rain shower that morning as they walked out of the subway and headed towards the hotel. They had been able to secure a penthouse suite with a balcony through friends of friends. The plan was to get ready separately, Piper in the penthouse with her parents and Polly and Alex in the other room with Nicky, Lorna, and her mom. Then Alex was going to come up and see Piper for the first time before they both went out onto the balcony to be married by Nicky, who had become an ordained minister online for this very reason. She wanted to marry two of her oldest and closest friends in matrimony.

"You look beautiful, Pipes," spoke a teary-eyed Polly.

Piper met Polly's eye in the mirror and smiled. She could feel her eyes getting wet at seeing the emotion on her friend's face. She would never have thought in a million years that Polly would be here once more, standing beside her in support on her wedding day. It still seemed so surreal to her that this was all happening. That she found herself, once again, wearing a white dress and preparing to marry the love of her life. Of course, this time was different. It all felt different than it had the first time.

Unlike her wedding day over a year ago, she was nervous, but in a good way. She was overwhelmed with excitement and joy to be marrying Alex. She couldn't wait to become Alex's wife and start this new chapter in their lives together.

The two friends continued to look at each other for a moment longer. Neither spoke and they didn't have to. They knew each other well enough to feel what the other was feeling.

Piper tore her eyes away from Polly and gazed back towards the full length mirror as she excused herself from the room for a second, leaving Piper alone.

Piper couldn't help but admire her reflection. She looked good. The dress adorning her lean body was different than her previous one had been. This time, she had gone for something simple- a silky floor-length, fitted, off-white gown with thin spaghetti straps. It contained a low-V neckline in the front and a low back with a cowl. There were buttons running down an invisible zipper down to the floor. Piper didn't bother with a veil this time. Instead, she chose to wear her freshly cut hair down in loose curls, which framed her face well. Piper might look too stripped down for her wedding day according to her mother and others, but she didn't care. Everything about today was all about ease and being effortless. Her makeup was entirely done, though, and she wore a vintage jewelled clip in her hair that belonged to her mother.

There was suddenly a knock at the door. Piper turned just as the photographer, Marco, poked his head into the room. "We're ready."

Piper nodded her head in response before leaving the bedroom she was currently in and heading out into the central area of the penthouse.

She felt a little strange for using Marco's services again for her wedding. But Alex still did work for him, and the man had insisted.

Soft music played from some invisible spot that Piper couldn't see. Not that she was paying much attention. Her eyes were solely on Alex, who stood in the middle of the room with her back to her. There was no one else in the room besides Marco, who was quietly snapping pictures in the distance.

This moment was just for the two of them. A private, romantic time to reflect before the main ceremony began.

Piper strolled towards Alex, stopping only about a foot away from the other woman. Taking a deep breath, Piper took this moment to admire her fiancé. Up until now, she hadn't known what Alex would be wearing. That had been one tradition they had kept. Neither had wanted to know what the other one was going to wear. The blond had imagined Alex wearing a dress all this time.

But from what she could see from her viewpoint, the brunette had chosen to go a different route. She wore a white suit.

Piper's heart began to flutter as she enclosed the final distance between them. She took a deep breath before tapping Alex lightly on the shoulder.

"Finally," joked Alex softly as she turned around to face Piper with a smile.

Piper opened her mouth to say a catty remark back, but her attention was drawn to something else and the words melted away on her tongue.

Alex looked stunning. Piper had always thought that Alex looked beautiful, no matter what. But the woman had truly outdone herself today. Alex was a vision with her hair up in a loose, messy bun at the back of her neck, with wavy strands framing her face. She wasn't wearing glasses, making her green eyes shine in combination with the black, winged eyeliner drawn across her lids.

"Al…You look incredible."

Alex smirked at this, her tongue poking slightly out before looking briefly away. "You don't look too bad yourself, Chapman," her voice caught on the end. It was Alex's style to joke and poke fun. She wasn't good at being severe or showing her genuine emotions. But no matter how hard she tried to fight them, her feelings came to the surface. Alex was overwhelmed at how much she loved Piper and how insane everything felt in that moment. She couldn't believe she was getting married, and here Piper was… standing in front of her in a wedding dress.

Piper smiled, reaching out and touching Alex tenderly on the arm. Alex didn't have to say anything else to know that Piper felt the same. They held each others' gaze for a second longer before Alex cupped the side of Piper's face and brought her mouth up to her own.

The ceremony had gone smoothly, way better than the last time Piper had donned a wedding dress. The whole day had been fun and filled with love, just like a wedding was supposed to be.

It was just past midnight now as Piper lay curled up beside Alex in the king-sized bed of the hotel room they were staying in for the night.

Everything was dark except for the moonlight casting in from the window on the far side of the room. Alex was asleep, but her wife wasn't. She knew she should be exhausted from the day's events and more from the night one's, but she just couldn't settle. Piper was still, very much, riding on a high.

Piper listened to her wife's breathing as she stared down at the simple wedding band that adorned her left ring finger. The wedding band matched her engagement ring perfectly.

"Why aren't you sleeping?" murmured Alex as she slowly woke up and noticed Piper was still awake.

"Did I wake you?" asked the blonde, worrying eyes turning to face Alex.

Alex shook her head softly against the pillow. "I have to pee."

Piper nodded her head in response. The two women held each other's gaze for a second longer before Piper removed herself from Alex so that she could get up. Alex smiled softly at Piper as she sat up and kissed her tenderly on the lips before making her way to the bathroom.

Piper sat back against the pillows and sighed contently to herself, admiring her wife's naked backside as she walked away.

"We're married," Piper whispered to herself, once again staring down at her left hand.

The End
