Chapter 8 - The New Normal? Part 1

"Look because I can see that you still have some doubts on the truthfulness on my explanation, I will give you limited access to my file you will be able to see all the records that mom has kept on me. You will only have a small window to look at this, but don't even try to copy or write down anything you see on them because I will know and will destroy those copies before you can even begin to try and hide them. Understand."

This kind of scared Will, he wasn't yet sure `what Natalie was capable but he was beginning to think he shouldn't try and find out.

It had been a couple of days since their meeting, as promised Natalie supplied Will with the access to her real file. After reading both files this confirmed all the was said during their meeting, Will now had a good understanding of who the women was and was now regretting having disliked her before. While reading he came across a couple of questions that he wanted to ask, so when he had the chance he would ask Natalie. Knowing that Natalie was still at the Sanctuary it made him second guess himself whenever he would see either one of them around as he wasn't sure who it was at the time, Helen had made her daughter promise that while she was still here on this visit that she would not try to trick anyone into believing that she was Helen. Will was finally given the chance to ask Natalie the questions that he had, which she happily answered also told him the it was ok for him to go and speak with Henry or the Big Guy as they were the only other people that knew of her. Thanking her for this information that's exactly where Will headed, down to Henry's lab to speak with him as he would be able to understand the frustration he was going through not knowing who was who and had hope Henry had some tips telling the two apart.

"So they finally told you?"

"Yeah Magnus sat me down in her office to talk and then Natalie showed up, took me by surprise too. Please tell me you have a way that helps you tell which one is which as i'm totally lost when around them?"

"Sorry dude, no can do on that one, I have known both of them most of my life and still can't tell them apart. Also it doesn't help help that Nat is notorious for tricking people."

"That's not what I want to hear."

"Well I guess it mainly is because most of the time when she is around here she has to pretend to be the boss otherwise too many questions start being asked."

"Do you think they will ever get the freedom to live as a normal family should?"

"Honestly I don't know, none of us really know the full story as to who they are hiding from. No one knows who Nat's father is, don't even think about asking either one of them especially Magnus. Whenever Ash or me asked about him when we were young she'd get very defensive and send us to our rooms or to do some really disgusting work, to deter us from ever asking again."

"See I don't understand why, wouldn't she want us to know so that we would be able to help or at least know who we shouldn't even mention Natalie around?"

"I would've thought that to be the case but nope, there was a point where even Nat was never allowed to know. But somehow she manage to get the answer, when I asked how she did it she just shrugged. If you must try and find out your best bet to not get fired or killed would be to go to Nat and not Magnus she might be able to tell you why we can't know."

"Thanks H, I think I should leave it for a while try and find out more the next time she visits. If i even know when that is, she's definitely sneaky that's for sure."

That afternoon Declan arrived from London, coming over to help out while the London Sanctuary was fixed meant that all talk of Natalie was put on hold especially as Kate had decided to stay and work with them as well, neither of which were to find out about Helen's secret daughter. The next day Will and Declan were out trying to help a man get to the safety of the Sanctuary but the man thought they were the bad guys and kept running from them, they had cornered the man in a dead end alleyway when all of a sudden this flying man comes out of nowhere beats them up and then flees with the man.

"What in the hell was that?" questioned Will.

"Mate, I have no idea." was all that Declan could say, also surprised as to what just happened.

They head back to the Sanctuary where they give Magnus and the other the low down on what happened,

"This is my favourite part." Laughs Kate

"You know, I'm so pleased that my pain amuses you all." Grimaces Will.

"God, look at the whiplash on that baby!" Exclaims Kate while replaying the moment Will gets knocked down by their mysterious man.

"Ow! Ah…" exclaims Will.

"I'm checking for broken bones." Says the Big Guy giving Will a smack on the back of his head.

"Well, if you press any harder, you'll find some." Will says trying to move away from the Big Guy's grip.

"How does he manage to fly like that without wings? I've never seen an abnormal with that ability before." Helen asks the room.

"Yeah, you know I thought the same thing when my head bounced of the ground." Adds Will.

"How's the shoulder?" Helen asks Declan.

"Nothing I can't handle." he replies.

"Not exactly the welcome I had in mind when you volunteered to come aboard." Says Helen.

"I'm just sorry the guy we were chasing got away."

"He's an Empath trying to break free from the mob, if he's smart he'll come to us. As for your flying man, I'm having Henry look into it."

"Keep me posted, I'm dying for a rematch." Declan says.

"Well, if anyone needs me, I'll be coughing up blood." Groans Will.

"Actually, I need you. Get dressed." Magnus tells him.

Once Will had got himself back presentable Magnus went on to explain what she needed him for and they headed out to the construction site which they were called to. Once there one of the workers went over what had happened and showed them to the item that had been found, after seeing that it was an egg of some sort Magnus asked if the worker could gather everyone that was working at the time so they could gather more information. While the worker was gone Will and Magnus began to discuss what the creature could be and how it ended up where it was, the worker returned with the crew that was on that day but he said he couldn't find one of the men named Joe. He went on to explain that Joe was the backhoe operator and the first person on the scene but he left early saying that he wasn't feeling well. Upon hearing this information Will and Magnus looked at each other both knowing that it was very likely that this Joe person had somehow became a host to whatever had hatched out of the egg. They finish up at the site and head back to the Sanctuary, once there Magnus begins to run some test to try and find out what this creature could be. Will meets her in the lab with information on the worker that had left the site earlier that day,

"Joseph Koster, 38, divorced. No sign of any abnormal behaviour." Will explains.

"I take it you've tried to get in contact with him?" Helen asks.

"He's not answering his phone. He's not at his place, either."

"Try putting out word to our contacts." Suggests Helen.

"I already did. Squid just gave us a tip. There's some guy matching this description acting very weird on the top floor of Saint Conair place."

"Saint Conair? That's a condemned building."

"Yeah. I know it's a long shot, but Declan and I figure we ought to check it out."

"Absolutely, but be careful. We have no idea what effect this creature could have had on Mr. Koster."

"Any idea what it is, or was?"

"The shell membrane would seem to indicate something reptilian, but... The amniotic fluid is definitely consistent with that of an insect." Magnus begins to explain.

"I'll, uh... just read the report." Will says slightly disgusted by the fluid Magnus had in her hand, seeing Will's reaction made Helen giggle a little bit, watching Will rush out of the room.

Will and Declan head up to Conair place looking to locate the missing man, the reach the floor where Joe had been spotted both wondering why a man like him would be doing in a place like they currently standing in. They begin searching the room with Will finding Joe's name tag proving that he was indeed there, Declan also made his own discovery with the remains of a cat that had been eaten right down to the bone, again this left Will quite disgusted.

Back at the Sanctuary Natalie heads down to meet Henry in his array, she had spoken to her mother and found out that they were quite busy dealing with two seperate cases. Upon seeing that her mother was quite busy trying to work out what their unknown creature was Natalie offered to help her out of the other case, they quickly discussed a plan so they they could both work separately but also be able to hide the fact that there was the two of them. This is why Natalie was heading down to meet Henry she was now in charge of finding out more about their mysterious superhero, reaching the lab she puts on her mother accent even though Henry knows about her he is terrible when it comes to keeping secrets so it is important that he also believes she is Magnus,

"Have you found anything Henry?" Natalie asks.

"Looks like your mystery superhero has been busy."

"Doing what exactly?"

"Everything it seems; foiling robberies, beating up bad guys. The best is this." Henry says as he plays a video on his monitor.

"What am I looking at?"

"Video of a jumper taken yesterday, here check it out." The video shows a person jumping off building and then The Adjuster catching him mid-fall and flying off.

"Unbelievable."

"Yeah, except the guy ended up with four crushed vertebrae from the force of the catch."

"Ouch. Any information on how we can find this flying man?"

"Well so far he's done a really good job of keeping his secret identity a secret."

"Well we need to track him down. For one thing he is getting in the way of our work and for another, he keeps this up and a lot of people are going to get seriously hurt."

"Well I don't know if this helps but eyewitness reports state that he arrives on the scene right away sometimes before the police."

"Hmm."

"You think he has some kind of ESP?" Natalie smiles and looks at Henry.

"Ah Henry" Natalie leaves smiling, with Henry watching her confused as to what she meant.

After Henry had managed to work out that The Adjuster had been using a police scanner to find people to help, he used this to set a trap so that they would be able question him and find out more about him. Will and Declan had just arrived back at the Sanctuary when Magnus aka Natalie comes down to meet them and retrieve Will, they were to head out to a predetermined location and wait for The Adjuster to arrive. The trap worked as not long after the man they were looking for comes through the door, after realising that this has been a trap he tries to get away but is stunned by Will and collapses to the ground. They get the man transported back to the Sanctuary and placed in a secure medical lab room, Will has been trying to get some information out of the man but is having no luck with him thinking that they were supervillains who just wanted to conduct experiments on him. He find Natalie outside the room watching what was going on, he asked her if she had found out any information of her own. She went on to tell him that his suit must be made out of some Kevlar material as she has to draw blood from between him fingers, but that wasn't the strangest news as the test came back showing that he wasn't abnormal and that he was human. Natalie then went on that they would need to run some more detail tests to try and figure out how he could fly, with that she left to go back to the lab to get started of some more tests leaving Will to try again to get some more information out of the man and also try and get him to trust them.

Meanwhile the real Magnus is in the library, where she is met by her old friend Bigfoot. He asks her what she is working on, so she explains that she was unable to get any results from the DNA test she ran on the egg. But after hearing Wills description of what they found up in the old building, it reminded her of an encounter that her father had with an abnormal back in 1892. Biggie asked how she could be sure that this was the same abnormal, in which she replied that the reports from her father's encounter was pretty much identical to what they were experiencing now. Reading from the report Biggie saw that it said that the creature would attack again, Magnus interjected saying that it was no longer inside the body of the man and that her father had suspected that this was as had evolved to a further stage of its lifecycle. She then went to add that all the eyewitnesses spoke of the creature having a high pitch shriek, Big Foot asked Magnus if they could use that information to somehow help them catch the one they were after now. Thinking that this could be possible she nods her head to her old friend and get up to head down to Henry's array hoping that he could make something with this new information they had. When she arrives at Henry's array she is met by Declan and Henry and after explaining to them what she had found out Henry came up with an idea on how they could track the creature. Declan wasn't 100% sure on this idea so he needed Henry to explain to him how this would work, after hearing Henry's explanation Magnus told him he had done some excellent work. They leave Henry to finalise what he was working on after he tells them that they needed to be careful and to avoid any other things that create high pitch noises like ambulances.

After sending Declan off with the equipment he needed Henry was walking the halls when he runs into Will. They discussed what Will had managed to get out of their superhero friend, this made Henry laugh as he knew that Will had been played and that all of what he had been told was fiction and straight out of comic books. That's when an alarm goes off they trace it down and head to where they find the Big Guy a bit dazed next to the scanner where he was doing some tests on Walter, after asking which way he went they went looking for him only to find that he escaped by blowing a hole right through one of the walls of the Sanctuary. Will is then called out to help Declan with his search leaving Henry to try and track down where Walter has gone, arriving at the alleyway where Declan is Will and him observe what evidence they have in front of them. After hearing Declan's description of what he had seen of the creature they determined that the file that Magnus had found was right the creature had evolved. The good news was that even though it had escaped again Henry's scanner had worked so they would be able to try and track it down again. After going through the evidence Will was thinking that this wasn't going to be the creature last stage of evolving and that he also thought that it would be looking for a place to cocoon, meaning that if this was the case they would need to work fast before it went quite on them. They decide that they would need to split up to cover the area quicker so they divided into two teams and went seperate directions.
