Chapter 14 - Natalie moves home.

She hoped that it wasn't so important that Natalie would have to leave an head home so soon, luckily she didn't have to wait too long before that question was answered as it was only another ten minutes later that Natalie was walking back into the office.

"Everything all good?" Helen asked as she sat at her desk watching as her daughter entered the room.

"Oh yeah, that was just Matt. We just had a few things we needed to discuss and work out." Natalie replied sitting in the chair on the other side of the desk to her mother. Matt was Natalie's partner, very few people knew of their relationship as Matt had a very public job and wanted to keep his personal life out of view. The two of them had been together for 10 years now, but due to the stress of each of their work they had just decided to put their relationship on hold. As much as it hurt it made things easier for Natalie for being able to move back closer to her mother, and with Matt also deciding to move from Atlanta to LA, she didn't tell her mother about this just yet.

"So how much longer do I get to have to have the pleasure of you being around?" Helen asked.

"Actually about that, what would you say if I told you that it is completely up to you?"

…..

"Up to me?" Helen was now confused, how could it be up to her? Wouldn't it be a matter of when Natalie needed to get to work.

"Yep." Natalie grinned, even though she couldn't wait to see her mother's reaction when she told her didn't need to leave. She was having to much fun having her mother confused.

"What are you smiling at? How could it be my decision? Don't you have work that you'll need to get back to?"

"Well…." Natalie began, but taking her time as to annoy Helen.

"Oh for goodness sake Natalie, what aren't you telling me?" Helen asked her daughter the annoyance very clear in her voice, this just made Natalie start laughing. While laughing Natalie finally told her mother what she had done,

"Your so easy mom. So I there isn't anything there that I need too be there for anymore. I was actually kind of hoping that you would agree and that I could stay here and be with you." Upon hearing this, the annoyance Helen was feeling was quickly replaced with excitement. Was she really getting to have her daughter back into her life full time,

"Wait, are you serious? What about your job?" She asked Natalie, needed to make sure she was hearing her daughter correctly.

"Yes mom I'm completely serious, I kind of quit my job. I was actually working my last shift there when you called for help with calling Emma out. So wouldn't it be nice if I came to work for you?" Hearing this made Helen so happy that she quickly got up and rounded her desk to engulf her daughter in a hug. She was speechless, her daughter was finally coming home, home where she belonged.

"I take that as a yes to my question?" Natalie questioned laughing. This caused Helen to join her laughing as well,

"Of course it does, I've wanted you here with me for so long, and now you can be." After having to be separated for so much of their lives, everything was finally coming together for this mother/daughter duo. Helen just remembered that Natalie had been on the phone with Matt prior to this, so she had to ask what was happening with him. Natalie told her they had talked and she had told him she might be moving for work, and how he was ok with it because he was as well. She lied and said that they would make time to come and see each other as much as they could around their work, so she asked her mother if that was fine with her if whenever she wasn't needed she could head out and see him. Also this would allow her to be able to spend time with her adoptive mother as well she still had a close bond with the women how help raise her. Magnus was more that happy to agree to this as she knew how important it was for her daughter to have these relationships after all she had been through in her life. The two of them then spent the rest of the evening talking about things, like what sort of work Natalie would do in the meantime until they got around to telling the rest of the Sanctuary Network about her existence.

Over the next few days Natalie took the time to settle in, all while answering the abundance of questions that Kate had. Most of which were simple and were asked and answered in passing each other in the hallway, other harder question came usually during a staff meeting when she could ask them all the same question. But the question that got everyone the most curious was when Kate asked if she had the same ageing ability as her mother, it was a thought that both Natalie and Helen had but neither had done any tests to see if this was true or not.

"Actually I have no idea on that, I know there's test that we could run but I've never had the chance to do them. I ended up just thinking I will find out in a few years anyway, right? When I don't start looking any older." Natalie told Kate.

"Aren't either of you curious to know though?" Kate asked both Natalie and Helen. They both nodded but also explain that it wasn't any priority to them, if it turned out that Natalie aged just as slow as her mother that was good but neither liked the thought of her not and her growing older and dying before Helen. So they agreed that unless it became necessary that they knew they wouldn't. With this question now answered that got back to finishing the meeting before everyone heading off to get back to work.

Everyone had been busy with work that the next couple of weeks passed by quickly, Will had been going on and on about the upcoming conference he was going to attend. Magnus on the other hand had been trying to find ways to keep him from going, luckily a mission came up that she needed him for.

"The beacon is coming from an abandoned oil rig off the Louisiana coast." Helen explained as they walked into her office.

"Okay, so one of our retrieval teams will pick it up, bring it back, boom." Will told her.

"They're all in mission mode right now. I'd rather not interrupt them for something as simple as this. We will charter a helicopter in New Orleans and fly out there." Magnus said in a way indicating to Will that she was saying that they would be going.

"Hey, take Kate." Will tried, but doesn't succeed as Magnus told him,

"Kate can't dive; I need you." This cause Will to groan dramatically.

"Okay, okay, so...I'll miss the opening reception, but I'll still be there to give my presentation. Fine, I'll go." He said, working out how he could still make the conference.

"Actually no, I need you here for the next few days." Magnus told him.

"Why?" Will questioned. Magnus replying that she need him here as she had to leave for an important meeting that couldn't wait. Will didn't like this so he asked why could Henry do it, little did he know that Henry was already on leave and the Big Guy was with him so he couldn't do it either.

"Kate?" He tried.

"Is not ready for an extended period of being in charge." Helen said. His last chance was asking if Natalie was able to do it. But again all he got was that she was also unavailable as something had come up with her adoptive mother that she need to be there for.

"No, no, no, no, no, because I told you about this trip months ago, okay? I'm a guest speaker. They're giving me a nice hotel room. I'm touring fjords." Will said disappointed as it was now clear that he was not getting out of this.
"I'm sorry Will, this is not a request." Magnus told him, she was genuinely sorry that she wasn't letting him to go. After all he did deserve the time off, but she didn't want to tell him the true reason as to why she wasn't allowing him.

In the end the mission was a bust, as they ended trapped in the abandoned oil rig after the helicopter crashed. The abnormal they had captured had gotten away, but as they were floating there waiting for help to arrive, Magnus did confess that that true reason she didn't want him to go was because it was almost Ashley's birthday. She was unsure if Natalie would return in time to be with her, so she wanted Will there just in case, it was Ashley's first birthday after dying earlier that year and she didn't want to be alone. As it turned out though Natalie, Henry and the Big Guy were all aware that Ashley's birthday was approaching so they all made sure to be back home at the Sanctuary in time so they could spend the day as a family. This surprised Helen that they all did this for her, it just went to show how they were always there for each other if they were needed.

It was now the new year, Natalie had now been living back at the Sanctuary for almost six months. Everyone was glad that Helen and Natalie had come up with a system so that it made distinguishing who was who easier on people. Kate and Will had just noticed that even though they had told the people they had here in this Sanctuary about Natalie, Magnus hadn't kept her deal about telling anyone else. It didn't help that Natalie would somehow disappear or need to go see her family whenever there was a chance that she would need to tell someone, like when Nikola was around and they were dealing with his fail vampire experiment. They didn't know if this was just a coincidence or if somehow Magnus planned this, so that way she could still keep her daughter hidden without Natalie finding out. Will thought that they should go and see if Natalie had any idea as to why this was, so off they went down to the records room where Natalie primarily did her work continually trying to upload and organised the Sanctuary database. Finding her there sitting on the ground surrounded by boxes of old paperwork, Will asked.

"Hey Nat, how's it going? Can we ask you about something?" Sensing that this wasn't going to be just a quick question she put down the current file she was going through, she stood up and made her way to the table that was in the room where they could sit and talk.

"Sure, What can I do for you two?" Natalie asked while offering them to join her at the table.

"Did you know that it has be a few months since the Doc has mentioned you to anyone other that us?" Kate asked.

"Has it really been that long?" Natalie said, more to herself than to either of them. "I guess we have both been too busy to really tell anyone yet." She told them. Thats when Will jumped in,

"Don't you find it a little suspicious that when an event come up that would have force her to tell people, that somehow it coinciding with you going out of town. Or when you were down here and no one knew you were." He said.

"Right, just like how when Nikola was here a month ago you weren't" Kate added

"I think it just happens to be a coincidence. I can assure you that mom isn't still hiding me on purpose, unlike what I think you believe. Neither she nor I had any prior knowledge to me being out of town at the sometime as Nikola being here, we couldn't have planned that. I trust mom that when the chance comes up she will tell people, at the moment I think we're both just happy to finally be living under the same roof that we have put aside the fact of telling people." Natalie explained as to what she thought had happened.

"So you think that if someone, let's say Declan. If he were to show up unannounced while you were here and not busy, that Magnus would tell him about you?" Will asked.

"Yes I'm sure that if that did happen, she would tell him. I think the only person she would not like to tell would be Druitt, can you just imagine how he would react." Will and Kate both agreed to this statement knowing the history between them.

"So your fine with her having not told anyone yet?" Kate asked.

"If I wasn't and I was worry she wasn't keeping her promise, I would have done something about it by now. I believe that when the time arises she'll do the right thing." Answered Natalie. Knowing that this was the end of this conversation Will and Kate left Natalie to get back to her work, they also needed to get back to theirs.

The next day the man that they had been previously talking about was called in to help rescue survivors of a boat explosion. Will was interested to see if Magnus was going to tell him about her daughter or continue to hide her, he knew that it wasn't going to happen while they were busy treating patients. Everyone was down in the main lab which had been set up as the triage point for Druitt to teleport any survivors into, they were almost completed with treating all the survivors when Druitt teleported in with the last survivor,

"Metal fragment in her abdomen!" Druitt yells as he enters the room. Magnus comes over and checks the woman's pulse.

"Dear God, her pulse is weak. Get her to the O.R. I need to operate immediately." She says to Will who brings a gurney over and Druitt places the woman on it. Magnus helps Will guides the gurney to go out of the lab. She tells him to get things set up and to call Natalie down to help before turning back to Druitt she sees him staring at his bloody hand.

"John?" She asks, Druitt seems to be lost in thought and struggles to answer her. Magnus studies Druitt as he seems a bit off, she thanks him for coming to help when she called and that she couldn't of done this without he is help.

"Well, all hands on deck, hmm? Besides, I've missed this place. You know, vengeful killing sprees are good for the soul, but... there's no place like home." He tells her.

"Quite a lot of teleportation for one day, you feeling any worse for wear?" She asks after seeing how acting slightly strange.

"Right as rain; in fact, I've... I've never felt better." He says, Magnus turns to go to her patient waiting for her in the OR. Druitt stares menacingly at two survivors who are looking at him in alarm.
