Chapter 1
Feyre
I hugged onto Rhys a little tighter as he dived down towards the manor. The wind hit my face as I squeezed my eyes shut against its harshness. My stomach clenched and unclenched. Rhys looked around once we had landed on the steps, his violet eyes sweeping the area for potential threats, 'Rhys what's wrong?'
I gripped his hand, 'I don't trust him, especially after what happened with Eris.'
I bit my lip and looked towards the door, 'I don't trust him either, but he hasn't given us a reason not to. We can't just keep ignoring our only human ally.'
His gaze hardened as he knocked on the door. I knew he was uneasy about coming here; Jurian's manor was not the most ideal place to hold a meeting. I sent a stroke of affection down the bond as Jurian opened the door, "You're late."
I smiled at him, "Sorry," I chuckled a little, "This is our first time away from Nyx and it was a little hard to peel ourselves away."
He smirked a little, "Dinner's already on the table."
I peered into each room as we passed by, trying to admire them but failing. Rhys glanced at me before saying, "This was Grayson's place right? Before the war."
Jurian nodded as we entered the dining room, "Yeah… it's not really my style but we haven't had a chance to redecorate."
For the first few minutes of the meal everyone was silent until I asked, "So where's Lucien and Vassa?"
I looked over at Jurian as I popped a piece of chicken into my mouth, "I'm pretty sure Lucien accompanied Vassa to her lake for a couple days."
I swallowed, "Hmm."
As we finished our food Rhys turned towards Jurian, "So why did you call on us to meet with you?"
Jurian looked at him and shrugged, "I'd rather talk about it tomorrow. It has been a rather difficult day for me and I'm really tired," he gave us an apologetic smile as I yawned, "It seems Feyre is too," he laughed a little before standing and bidding us goodnight before leaving the room.

I sat in bed, trying to concentrate on some papers I needed to fill out, but I couldn't. Jurian having us wait until tomorrow was understandable, but the letters he's been sending had made it seem like this meeting was urgent. Putting the papers on the nightstand, I watched Rhys stretch his wings, 'What you can't work while I'm here?' a purr down the bond.
I smirked before answering, 'Well it's hard to concentrate when you're strutting around trying to get my attention.'
He turned and smiled slyly at me before responding, "Oh Feyre… I don't need to try to get your attention," I laughed.
'Prick.'
He moved into the bed and pulled the blanket over us. I leaned into him more, "So what do you think will happen tomorrow?"
He shrugged and curled a wing around us before blowing out the candle.

I lifted my head and looked around, still groggy. Something was wrong. I stared into darkness, trying to reach my powers out to check beyond the room, but I couldn't. A blind panic overtook me and I shot up, already shaking Rhys.
"Rhys!" He mumbled something incoherent, "Rhysand!"
He opened his eyes, still bleary from sleep, and looked up at me. He must have tried to comfort me through the bond because the next moment he was fully awake. "Faebane," my voice was barely above a whisper and I didn't know if it was from fear or shock.
Rhys's eyes met mine, "It must have been placed in dinner," he bit his lip, "but why would he do that?"
I shook my head, I didn't have an answer to share. I got up and moved towards the door, Rhys quickly following, and put my ear against it. For a second all was silent, until a soft thump sounded down the hall. I turned to Rhys and whispered, "Down the hallway… I think more than one."
He nodded and moved back a little, "There's no way we're getting out of this without a fight."
I nodded, balling my fists as I took a better stance; I needed to be ready.
