Here you go.
December of 1990
Perseus always knew he was far from normal. His definition of normal certainly didn't include controlling water or levitating items. And seeing one-eyed men or red-eyed hounds the size of trucks was definitely not what he considered ordinary.
To him, normal was being able to concentrate on something for more than a minute, or to be able to read easily. Normal was what the other children of the orphanage were. And him being the isolated child of the orphanage, further proved to him that he wasn't normal.
But, he also didn't have anything against his uniqueness. A good explanation for his way of thinking was from a couple of years ago when he had discovered his water powers after he had slipped and fallen in a nearby lake. Panicking at first like any 8 year old would, he had struggled a lot before finding out that he could somehow breathe in water.
Out of curiosity, he had then tried to find the limit of his power, that is, after he had gotten out of the body of water. A few experiments later, he found out that he could dry off his clothes, control water, and get healed and strengthened by water. All he had to do was to concentrate for it to happen.
His other magical powers like levitating things and at rare times, shattering items, were slightly harder and more versatile. He had a habit of bursting glasses of water when angered, which had led him to try and see if he could replicate it normally. Needless to say, he was successful and thoroughly confused.
Additionally, he could also talk to fishes but he wasn't sure if that was one of his abilities or hallucinations.
Another unusual thing about him was his obsession with any body of water. He was fixated to the point where he spent most of his weekends and free time by the lake, mostly playing with his water powers or relaxing near the water.
That would also explain why he was on his way to the lake nearby, planning on spending his entire Saturday there. Feeling something wrong, he quietly hid behind a tree as he saw something abnormal on his usual spot.
A female figure was looking at something in the lake with her back turned towards him. The unexpected part about her was a metallic leg along with a donkey leg. The wings were a surprise too, but he was more confused regarding her hair, which was on flames.
Feeling a chill run down his spine, he stepped back from his hiding place in fear, mistakenly stepping on a fallen branch hereby revealing his hiding place. As he stepped backwards in the branch, the commotion he made attracted the monster's attention as she turned to him, showing him her fangs and blood-red eyes alongside a curious look that turned into a maniacal smile.
He stared at the creature that was approaching in horror as he attempted to take another step back, only to realize that he could not move his body. Attempting to move his legs, he only succeeded in stumbling as the monster drew closer.
"What do we have here, hmm? Is that a stray demigod, hmm?" The monster spoke in a strange voice, further increasing his fear as he looked around for anything that could protect him. The monster continued to approach him, with only a few meters of distance left between them.
"You must be quite tasty, hmm?" the monster said, taking pleasure in the fear she inflicted on this young demigod. Percy continued staring at the monster in fear as it advanced towards him with the lake behind her back.
"Wh…. What are you? Why can't I move?" Perseus cried out, finally having found control of his voice. The monster's smile widened when she heard his voice, as if the fact that he could speak was a good thing for her.
"You can still talk? That makes you even tastier, young demigod. And to answer your final questions, I am an Empousa, a particularly older one at that. And you can't move like all your predecessors who died before you because of my abilities." The monster replied to his questions, further adding questions to his already confused and scared mind.
"Anyways, it's time for me to feast, demigod!" Finally having been satisfied with the fear on his face, the monster dashed towards Perseus as the latter mentally cried out for something, anything, to stop the monster intent on eating him.
Eyes closed, Perseus waited for the pain while mentally bracing himself for death. He wondered if he was actually going to die without achieving anything throughout his life. As he realized a few seconds later that the monster wasn't supposed to take this long to pounce on him, he opened his eyes to see what actually happened.
In front of him was the brutal sight of the impaled corpse of the same monster that was trying to eat him, pierced through the chest by multiple icicles that appeared to have jumped on the monster from the lake.
Watching the monster dying in front of him, Percy stared at it with wide eyes as it slowly turned to golden dust whilst the head glared at him furiously. Sighing in relief, he slowly stood up on both his feet and approached the dust, poking it with his shoe to see if something else would happen.
Fortunately, the only thing that he could interact with were the melting icicles. Remembering the weapons that had saved him, he wondered if they were created by him in his panic. He knew he had a decent control over water, so he wouldn't be surprised if he was able to change its temperature and state too.
"It looks like you have things under control here." a sudden voice came from a few meters behind Percy, making him jump in shock as he whirled around to face the unknown person who had just spoken.
In front of him were a couple of adults, or at least one adult and another teenager. The younger one looked to be around 17 or 18 years of age with short-cropped sandy blonde hair, blue eyes and an intimidating Scar resting below his eyes.
With a sneaky look on his face, he wielded a sharp bronze colored sword in his right hand with a scabbard for it attached to his left side. He was wearing a dark jacket over a faded orange t-shirt and jeans. Overall, he looked quite intimidating to Percy.
Meanwhile, the older one looked to be around 20 years of age with long red hair that was styled in a ponytail and had a wooden stick of sorts in his hand. Looking quite laid back and easygoing, along with the dark-colored cloak that he was wearing, he looked quite cool in Percy's opinion.
"Who are you?" Percy asked cautiously with his back towards the lake, knowing that he could protect himself easily on that side.
Glancing around for anyone else that might be hidden, he turned back to the pair of eccentric individuals, instinctively comparing his chances against a sharpened blade.
The shorter of the two raised his hands after sheathing his sword, indicating his unwillingness to harm him. Glancing at the other person beside him, the red-haired individual sighed and put the stick back in his pocket.
"We mean no harm, so please don't shoot." The red-haired individual spoke with a kind smile, hoping to put the young demigod at ease.
Seeing that both of them were unarmed, Percy relaxed a bit as suddenly pain shot from his arm like a bee sting. Wincing slightly as he glanced at his left hand, he noticed bits of dirt and dead leaves stuck to his skin and a large bruise under his elbow.
Blood trickled down from his arm and dripped on the ground beside him, making the two look at his arm in concern.
The younger of the two weaved his way to him through the trees and traced his finger above Percy's bruise, making him look at what the blonde-haired teenager was doing. The older of the pair approached him too, taking care not to look too aggressive.
Stunned from the rising pain in his arm, all he could do was observe the two adults and see what they were doing while mentally praying that their intentions were good.
Glancing at his bruise to see what the teenager was doing, he stared open-mouthed in shock as the wound started healing itself at an unbelievable pace. He wondered if this was somehow related to his magic and if he could do something similar to that.
Arm healed and in perfect condition, he suddenly stepped back from the two and shivered subconsciously from the cold, wishing that he had some sort of jacket or something similar to wear.
"You still haven't answered my question. Who are you two and what was that you just did?" He questioned them again, this time out of curiosity rather than cautiousness. He was grateful that they had healed his arm, not that he couldn't do it himself, but it was a kind gesture all things considered.
"I am Luke Castellan and that guy behind me is Bill Weasley. And what I did was magic, something you can also do considering how you killed that monster. It will not be the same as mine but it will still protect you." the teenager with the blonde hair said, making Percy look at him confusedly, offhandedly wondering how he had gotten the scar on his face.
Scars aside, the answer had just given Percy more questions than answers.
Seeing Percy's confusion, Bill sighed before taking pity on the young child in front of him and asked Luke to explain himself, which the latter gladly agreed upon.
"I suppose you must have some questions, but can we first know what your name is?" Luke asked him as he waved his hand towards the nearby broken wooden branches and dead leaves, accumulating them together using the magic he had mentioned before. Plopping them down in front of the three, he snapped his finger as a small flame lit the branches on fire.
Percy stared at the display with slight awe while Bill muttered something which sounded similar to 'show-off'. He too then took out the same stick from before and pointed towards the ground as three extremely comfy chairs appeared out of nowhere.
Sitting in one of the chairs and warming himself in front of the fire, Percy looked at the two magicians in front of him. Remembering Luke's question from before, he spoke up. "My name is Perseus Jackson, but I prefer to be called Percy."
Hearing his name, a thoughtful look appeared on Bill's face that indicated that he was familiar with the name. "Related to Sally Jackson by any chance?" He questioned.
"Yeah, she's my mother. How do you know about her?" Percy nodded, making Bill's eyes widen in surprise as Luke looked between the two, feeling slightly left out from the conversation.
"She is a bit well known in my school, with her receiving a reward for academic brilliance during her school years. Is this where she disappeared to after her graduation?" Bill replied, adding a question at the end while Luke whistled in slight awe, knowing how difficult it was to get the said reward.
"She's dead. Died just after childbirth, from what I have heard so far." Percy answered quietly, making Bill wince while Luke's expression turned dark, knowing how life would be without a parent. The atmosphere stayed the same for a while before Percy couldn't keep in his curiosity and turned towards Luke with a curious look.
"So, what was the monster talking about? She called me a demigod and wanted to eat me." Percy asked inquisitively, already over the possibly traumatic experience he just had.
"That's a long story, so I should probably start from the beginning. This should clear up your doubts too, Bill." Luke nodded towards the latter who sat straighter, intent on listening avidly.
Percy too inclined forward, keen on catching wind of the explanation concerning why the alarming monster wanted to kill him, brutally so, if his instincts were right.
"What have you heard about Greek Mythology?" Luke grinned, wondering about the multiple times he had repeated the same explanation.
"So, Greek mythology is all real and I am a demigod who is probably related to a god from the sea. Bill is a wizard, someone who can use magic and you are both, a demiwizard." Percy summed up the entire explanation in a couple of sentences.
Luke nodded, amazed at the kid's ability to summarize everything in two sentences. This also was the calmest reaction he had seen in demigods, making him wonder if the child in front of him already knew about his heritage. Most would have at least been shocked, surprised or even angered in some cases.
"Why do the wizards and Demigods hide from the general public? They should have no problems against muggers or mortals." Percy asked in confusion as both Luke and Bill glanced at each other nervously.
The first question Percy had asked after learning about magic was the same as what many famous dark wizards had always wondered about and fought for.
"Life is peaceful for them so why get innocent people killed?" Bill replied swiftly, hoping that the child in front of them would be satisfied with the answer and agree with his point.
Fortunately, Percy nodded thoughtfully.
"So, what powers does a normal demigod have?" Percy asked, thinking over all of his powers and wondering whether he could be classified as a demiwizard or not.
"Mainly, its powers from the Godly parent, the ability to consume some of the godly food, slight magic resistance, enhanced athletics and strength and the ability to understand Greek and sometimes, Latin." Luke listed, wondering if he missed anything.
Bill whistled in awe. "That explains why you are so overpowered." He commented with a chuckle as Percy frankly shared his opinion. He really sounded too overpowered. Luke just sent him a dry look.
"And to balance it off, we can't sit still for a minute, can't read English easily as our brain is hardwired for ancient Greek and Latin and are always hunted by monsters like the one before. I have already crossed the average lifespan of a demigod." Luke answered with a dark look on his face making Bill wince at the comment he had made before.
Percy meanwhile looked surprised, wondering if he had gotten a better life than a normal demigod. The orphanage didn't treat him badly and the others left him alone if he wanted them to. Shaking his head slightly to get rid of unnecessary thoughts, he focused on the questions he currently had.
"So, does this classify as magic or is it a demigod power?" He said as he pointed his finger towards a rock that started to rise into the air slowly before he closed his fist, crushing the rock into dust by some unknown force.
Looking at the display, the two adults glanced at each other in surprise, not expecting Percy to be a Demiwizard. "Congratulations, you are the 4th known Demiwizard of the century. The rest are at the camp I mentioned." Luke said with a grin, aiming to clear up Percy's question.
The said child just nodded at the answer, unsettling Luke at how calm he was at such moments that would make most people freak out.
"Are demigods supposed to tell Wizards about the godly world?" Percy asked, wondering why Luke had told Bill about this. From what he had just heard about the Wizards, they prided themselves in being better than others and knowing that someone better than them was prancing around and having powerful kids would surely not sit well with them.
"No, they are not supposed to know about the godly world and similarly the demigods are not supposed to know about the wizarding world. It's Demiwizards like us who have to keep the two worlds separate. So, if a demigod asks about your magic, always say that you are a legacy of Hecate unless you think that telling them is fine."
"The Greek goddess of Magic, Hecate?" Percy asked, frowning slightly as he thought about how he had to renew his knowledge about the godly world.
Luke simply nodded.
"So why are you telling this to Bill? Didn't you say that you met him a week ago?" Percy asked, feeling confused on why Luke had told Bill when he had just now told him not to reveal about the godly world to any wizard unless they were trustworthy.
"It's because he has seen too much and saved me from a dragon too. So I decided to tell him about it." Luke replied, wondering slightly if the boy in front of him was actually a child or legacy of Athena. He certainly was curious enough to be one.
"How old are you right now?" Bill suddenly asked him.
"10 years, with my next birthday in 8 months." Percy replied, wondering how that mattered.
"Then, a professor will probably visit you by July of the next year to explain everything about magic to you and invite you to the school." Bill replied with a small smile. Luke looked at the two in confusion, wondering why would Percy go to Bill's school instead of going to Ilvermorny like he had.
"Why? Don't they know that I already know about magic? And how would my mother's school know that I live here?" Percy asked, confused. Did the school stalk all their graduates or something?
"Magic." Luke said, choosing to give a short reply that sounded as if it explained everything. And to Percy, it did.
Glancing at the dying fire and the slowly darkening sky, Percy suddenly stood up from his chair and stretched his limbs, feeling sore from sitting in one place for such a long time. Clapping his hands, he turned towards them and smiled cheerfully for the first time.
"Thanks for everything. I hope to see you two again later." Percy said, wondering if it was possible to convey all his gratitude in just a single sentence. Nevertheless, he tried it.
The two adults mimicked his former action as they stood up and then took out a couple of familiar sticks which were something they had called Wands. He looked at them with a curious gaze, wondering what sort of magic they would do now.
Seeing the inquisitive eyes on him, Bill smiled amusedly and gave his wand a wave in the direction of the chairs as they disappeared instantly. Doing the same to the burning fire, he then pocketed his wand and straightened his clothes casually.
Shaking his head slightly to push the questions to the back of his mind, Percy looked in the direction of an apartment-like structure which was the orphanage he resided in. It was a square building surrounded by high railings with a small garden standing beside it.
Following Percy's gaze, Luke spotted the orphanage and frowned at the sight. While it looked shabby, it was spotless on the outside. All in all, it presented itself grimly and Luke wondered why Percy even wanted to live here.
"Are you sure you don't want to come to camp with me?" He tried again in persuading the kid, hoping for a change of mind.
Unfortunately for him, Percy just smiled at his persuasive tone. "It's fine. I like the freedom the orphanage gives and the other kids don't even treat me badly. The matron is pretty nice too, although slightly nosy but nice nevertheless."
"The camp's pretty nice and open too. We even have a climbing wall with lava at the bottom. And we get free and nice food every time," Not giving at the first sentence, Luke tried once more in persuading Percy.
Looking up in surprise, Percy looked more excited this time. "That does sound nice. Maybe I will visit in a year or two." Bill looked between the two with a pale face as he wondered if Percy was more excited about the nice food or the lava climbing wall.
Sighing as if he was still unsatisfied, Luke nodded at the reply. "Very well. I will see you again. And try not to encounter any dragons. See you later, Percy!" Ending with a cheeky smirk he vanished with an almost silent crack.
Seeing Percy's bewildered expression, Bill chuckled to himself before he too readied himself mentally for a safe apparition. He certainly didn't want to splinch himself in a foreign country at the young age of 20.
"What was that magic? And are dragons even real?" Percy asked in confusion, hoping that Bill would clear some of his newer doubts. Unfortunately, he was left disappointed.
"Remember Luke's advice and stay away from Dementors. Bye Percy." Bill said in a similar fashion to the earlier adult, deciding to have a bit of harmless fun with the young Demiwizard before he left.
Frowning at their unusual farewells, Percy huffed in annoyance before turning towards the orphanage in the lake's vicinity and walking slowly towards it. Legs feeling heavy, he yawned once before he shook his head to stop himself from sleeping.
It had been a long day for him, with the monster attack and the overload of information tiring him out faster than normal. He wouldn't normally be tired by now but the day's even had exhausted him a lot.
Stepping inside the orphanage, he glanced towards the dining room, wondering if he should once again try to sneak some food out of the kitchen or wait for the dinner.
Contemplating the idea, he decided against it as he dragged his legs up the stairs, while he wondered if everything that had happened today was real or if he was just dreaming.
Scrapping that thought instantly as he realized that the pain he had felt from the bruise was just as real as he was, he smiled tiredly at the small pair of heads curiously poking out of the room opposite the stairs.
Opening the door of his room, he glanced around his room with a skeptical look. Not seeing any chances of interference, he concluded that everything was the same as he had left it in the morning.
Slumping on his bed, he sighed in happiness as his body relaxed in the bed. Using his powers always tired him and he had used it a lot today, if the icicles on the Empousa were of any indication.
Cracking a smile as he realized that the fishes were actually telling the truth, he sighed at the fact that his life was going to become incredibly hazardous in a few months. All the magic and mythology were bound to make his life more dangerous than before.
Staring blankly at the fan rotating in front of him, he did not realize that he had already closed his eyes or that he had gone to sleep.
In the meantime, as Perseus slipped peacefully into the domain of Hypnos, he was once again not spared from the usual barrage of bizarre dreams the God of Dreams foisted upon many unaware and unfortunate demigods.
A.N.= Before anyone asks, no. None of the seven or any important character are the 3rd and 4th known demiwizards. Their identity is going to be a pleasant surprise.
