CHAPTER 2: FOOD INTERVENTION

Charlie Brown had gathered all of his friends to help get rid of Snoopy's food supply so he could lose weight. He knew he needed exercise, but he wanted him to lose enough weight so he could even move more than a few inches at a time. Wayne and Mallory were there, so Cobra and Dominick set their aversion to Mallory aside, just this once, in order to help Charlie Brown in getting his dog in shape, plus Charlie made a deal with the principal at Sparkyville Middle School to excuse Mallory just this time for this.

Linus was taking Snoopy out to watch the rabbits play in the meadow, as he liked to do sometimes. Back at the Brown household, everyone was inside Snoopy's house getting rid of anything unhealthy. They had garbage bags filled with junk food, candy, even emergency rations (though Charlie Brown would keep those in his room as they were important, but only removed them because Snoopy had no self-control). By the time Linus and Snoopy came back, all of the junk food was gone.

Snoopy peaked inside his house to see that his food was missing. Charlie Brown came up to him and said, "I'm sorry, Snoopy, but you are starting to get a little big around the waist."

"What Charlie Brown is trying to say is that you are fat, beagle!" Lucy chimed in.

"You need to go on a diet, Snoopy," added Frieda, "so we took out all your junk food so you wouldn't be tempted." Snoopy yelped in shock. All of his favorite treats were now gone. He started acting out and crying a bit.

"I heard he could be a bit overdramatic," said Wayne to Schroeder.

"You haven't seen nothing yet, Wayne," said Schroeder. "Wait until you see Snoopy try to battle the Red Baron."

"The Red Who?" asked a confused Wayne.

"Now Frieda and I are going to make sure you stay on your diet regimen," Charlie Brown continued. "Peppermint Patty has agreed to be your personal trainer so you can get back to your ideal weight."

"I have a good exercise program lined up, Snoop, ol' boy," said Peppermint Patty. "Plenty of calisthenics and some weight training." Snoopy shook with fear.

"I will be your dietician, Snoopy," Linus began. "I will make sure you have the healthiest meal you can. Don't worry, you will still have meat, but it will be lean and low in fat."

"The rest of the gang will make sure you don't cheat," said Charlie Brown. "Everyone knows your favorite places to get food."

"You know what that means, beagle," said Lucy, smirking. "NO MORE JOE BURGERS FROM JOE'S!" Snoopy looked like someone had just crushed his favorite toy. He couldn't believe that he was going to be cut off from his favorite foods. But then he remembered one outlet: the refrigerator in the kitchen. He made a beeline to the house, as fast as his obese body could carry him. But when he finally made it to the kitchen, he was shocked to see that the fridge was chained up and had a lock on it. And all of the cupboards were now also locked up, so he couldn't go for a midnight snack, or any kind of snack that would be unhealthy to him. Snoopy's eyes began to tear up and he started bawling right in the kitchen.

"OOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!" Charlie Brown comforted his dog.

"I know it's going to be hard for you, Snoopy," he said, "but I want you to be a healthy dog, not a fat dog. No offense, Olaf."

"None taken," said Olaf through his thoughts. "Besides that, I'm not fat; I'm roly-poly."

"But with great determination, I know you can do it, pal!" Charlie Brown continued. "And I will be there to guide you through. And mom and dad will help too when Sally and I are at school."

"You can do this, Snoopy," said Sally.

"We know you can do it!" added Cobra.

"Right now you'd be an easy target for the Red Baron," said Franklin. "And I know you don't want that!"

Snoopy took in what everyone was saying and slowly got up and gave a salute. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Snoopy was on board for losing the weight he had gained and while it would be grueling, the last thing he wanted was to be an easy target for the Red Baron, or worse, the cat next door!
