Her mother always used to tell her she was too soft, especially for an era of war.

Too open with her emotions.

Enemies would be able to see right through it on the battle field.

Her mother was a stoic woman, who often showed no emotions no matter the situation.

Even as she was a child growing, there was seldom a time she recalled anything but a blank canvas on her mother's face.

Her mother's voice could still be heard, clear as if it were the day she first said it, in her head.

'These are times of war. Stop your crying. What if an enemy were to see you?'

She'd just been a little girl, wanting to cry for the death of her father.

A little girl who had yet to step foot on a battlefield.

Logically, she knew and understood where her mother was coming from, that her mother wasn't just being mean.

But, emotionally, it was different.

Even now, after being on a battlefield and seeing the effects of war first hand...

She didn't see what was wrong with having emotions or not being closed off with them.

In the end, maybe this is what would lead to her down fall.
