Chapter 20: Meet Rosalyn Diana Reid

Hotch and Rossi drove Chazz Montolo to jail in the SUV. Morgan and Reid drove back to the hospital as quickly as they could in Morgan's truck. Reid ran back inside the hospital first with Morgan running right behind him. Reid quickly scrubbed up and he joined JJ in the delivery room.

"JJ," said Reid.

"Spence," happily smiled JJ. "You're here! Derek...?"

"He's fine, JJ," said Reid. "He's with Emily. How are you doing?"

JJ took Reid's hand into her hand.

"I'm much better now that you're here," answered JJ.

"Mrs. Reid is ready to give birth, Dr. Reid," said Dr. Kiyomura.

Reid kissed JJ's forehead.

"I love you, Jennifer," smiled Reid.

"I love you, too, Spence," smiled JJ.

Morgan ran straight back into Prentiss's guarded hospital room.

"Derek," smiled Prentiss.

Morgan and Prentiss tightly hugged each other.

"You're here!" cried Prentiss. "You're okay."

"And, so are you, Emily," said Morgan. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left you like that."

Prentiss let go of Morgan's hug.

"Damn right you shouldn't have!" angrily said Prentiss. "I promised Hotch that I wouldn't go rogue when we rescued you two months ago! I thought that you wouldn't go rogue tonight!"

"Emily," said Morgan. "I couldn't let anybody else get hurt because of me. I knew that I could catch Montolo tonight."

"That's macho crap!" angrily cried Prentiss. "You knew nothing! That's exactly what the unsub wanted! For you to go rogue and go off after him alone! Just like Doyle wanted me to go rogue and go off after him alone 5 years ago! After losing Tsia and my other old friends and colleagues to Doyle, I didn't want him hurting my family because of me. And, what happened? I got staked and then most of you thought that I was dead for seven months! My family got hurt anyway because of me!"

Morgan lowered his head.

"Derek," continued Prentiss. "You could have ended up in a hospital bed right next to me now! You could have ended up in the morgue right now! Or worse! The unsub could have still been hiding in this hospital wanting to shoot me dead while you were running off someplace after him instead of staying here by my side protecting me! What are we going to do with you, Derek?!"

"'We?'" asked Morgan.

Prentiss put her hands on her belly.

"Yeah," admitted Prentiss. "I'm pregnant. That's what I was trying to tell you before I was shot."

"I'm sorry, Emily," said Morgan. "Is the baby all right?"

Prentiss kissed Morgan on his lips and they happily hugged each other.

"Our baby is fine," tearfully smiled Prentiss. "We're both fine now."

Morgan rolled Prentiss into the maternity wing waiting room in a wheelchair joining Garcia. Prentiss groaned. Hotch and Rossi joined the three of them in the waiting room.

"Any word on JJ?" asked Rossi.

"No," answered Garcia.

"Welcome back, Emily," said Hotch. "How are you feeling?"

"Much better now that Derek is here," answered Prentiss. "The baby and I are just fine."

"The baby?" asked Rossi.

"You're pregnant?" asked Hotch.

"Yeah," smiled Prentiss with a glow. "The doctor confirmed it during my examination."

Rossi Italian-kissed Prentiss's cheeks.

"Congratulations," smiled Hotch.

"Jayje and I found that out just before she went into labor," said Garcia. "Daddy here cheated himself out of finding this out first!"

"I'm sorry, Baby Girl," said Morgan. "I shouldn't have gone rogue like that."

"No," said Hotch. "You shouldn't have. Morgan, you deliberately disobeyed my orders and you withheld vital information from us. You chose not to trust this team. You violated my trust! Your actions could have cost you your life tonight! If you had killed Montolo tonight, you would be fired right now! You've got desk duty for the next 3 months."

"Hotch..." said Morgan.

"Would you like me to make it 6 months?" asked Hotch.

"...No," said Morgan while lowering his head.

Garcia closed her eyes.

"They're all going to be okay," whispered Garcia. "They're all going to be okay. They're all going to be okay..."

"Mama," said Morgan. "Do you have to give us your blind optimism now?"

Hotch, Prentiss and Rossi stared at Morgan.

"Hey!" said Garcia. "After you were abducted, Derek, I kept repeating, 'He's going to be okay. He's going to be okay.' And, you, my Chocolate Thunder are okay now! After Em was shot, I kept repeating, 'She's going to be okay. She's going to be okay.' And, my Wonder Woman is okay now!"

Prentiss smiled warmly at Garcia.

"How can that be 'blind optimism?!'" asked Garcia. "That's magic. And now, Reid and JJ are having their baby. I'm not going to stop doing this now!"

"Penelope," said Rossi. "As JJ would say, 'Ignore him!'"

"Leave her alone, Derek," agreed Prentiss.

"Carry on, Garcia," agreed Hotch.

"Or," said Prentiss. "As my husband used to say, 'Yo, yo, yo, work me up a little magic, Baby Girl!'"

Hotch and Rossi smiled and Garcia giggled from Prentiss mimicking Morgan.

"Okay," said Morgan. "I do not sound like that."

Garcia closed her eyes again.

"They're all going to be okay," whispered Garcia. "They're all going to be okay. They're all going to be..."

An hour passed. In the delivery room Reid and JJ were joyfully looking at their beautiful, healthy baby girl in their arms. Sandy, Henry and Diana had joined the BAU family in the waiting room. Reid came into the waiting room removing his mask and theatre hat.

"It's a girl!" cheered Reid.

Everybody cheered and took turns hugging Reid.

"How's JJ doing, handsome?" asked Prentiss.

"JJ is fine," answered Reid. "How are you doing, Emily?"

"The baby and I are just fine," answered Prentiss.

"The baby?" asked Reid. "You're pregnant?"

"Yeah," smiled Prentiss.

Reid and Prentiss hugged each other.

"Congratulations," smiled Reid. "I love you, Emily."

"I love you, too, Spencer," smiled Prentiss.

"Can we go see my granddaughter, Spence?" asked Sandy.

"Yes, mom," answered Reid. "Follow me, everyone."

Reid held Diana's hand while Sandy held Henry's hand as the four of them walked towards JJ's hospital room with Hotch and Rossi following them.

"Pen," said Prentiss. "Can you push my wheelchair for me?"

"Sure, Em," smiled Garcia.

"Why?" asked Morgan. "I love pushing you around, Emily."

"Exactly," answered Prentiss. "The way you drive? I'll never leave this hospital!"

Garcia giggled while pushing the wheelchair.

"Oh," said Morgan. "So, it's gonna be like that, huh?"

"Yes!" answered Prentiss. "Get used to it!"

In JJ's hospital room, JJ was holding her daughter in her arms while falling in love with her. Reid came in first with Diana, Henry and Sandy.

"Hello, daughter," smiled Diana.

"Hi, mom. Henry, mom," warmly smiled JJ. "You're all here!"

"Hi, mommy," said Henry.

"How are you feeling, Jennifer?" asked Sandy.

"Wonderful," answered JJ. "Henry, meet your new baby sister."

Henry looked at his sister.

"She's so little," said Henry.

"Baby," said JJ. "You were so little, once."

JJ kissed the top of Henry's head. Hotch, Rossi, Garcia, Morgan and Prentiss came in. Rossi Italian-kissed JJ's cheeks.

"Hi, guys," laughed JJ.

"JJ!" warmly smiled Prentiss.

Everybody looked at Reid and JJ's daughter.

"Awww," warmly said Garcia.

"Congratulations," smiled Hotch.

"Thanks," smiled JJ.

"She's beautiful," smiled Morgan. "Just like her mother."

"She's so little," said Prentiss.

"She weighs 6 pounds, 11 ounces and she is 15 inches long," proudly said Reid.

"I could just eat her up," said Garcia.

"I remember when Jack was that little," said Hotch.

Reid hugged Sandy.

"Thank you, mom for bringing my mom here for me," smiled Reid.

"You were able to call them and tell them that JJ was in labor, Spencer?" asked Prentiss.

"Actually," said Sandy. "Diana called me asking me to pick her up. She said she already knew that JJ was in labor."

Everybody looked at Diana.

"I had a feeling," said Diana.

"A mother knows?" smiled JJ.

"Yes," answered Diana.

"Wow!" said Garcia.

"That's amazing," said Morgan.

"She's...what was that word?" asked Henry. "'Pa-see-keek?'"

Everybody looked at Henry while JJ silently laughed.

"That's 'psychic,' buddy," said Reid.

Prentiss and Garcia started laughing along with JJ.

"What's her name?" asked Rossi.

"Her name is Rosalyn," answered Reid.

Sandy gasped, "Rosalyn?"

Sandy happily hugged Reid.

"But, you can call her Rose," smiled JJ.

"Rose Reid," smiled Garcia.

"That's beautiful," smiled Prentiss.

"Actually," said JJ. "Her full name is Rosalyn Di..."

"Diana Reid," said Diana.

Everybody looked at Diana again.

"...Yes," surprisingly answered JJ.

"A mother knows?" smiled Reid.

"Yes," smiled Diana.

"Wow!" whispered Prentiss.

"That is amazing," said Sandy.

"You were right, Henry," said Morgan.

"She is 'pa-see-keek!'" joked Prentiss.

Everybody laughed.

"Rose Reid," said Morgan. "Does that mean we can call her RR, JJ?"

Reid and JJ looked at each other because they hadn't thought about that.

"We'll see," said JJ. "Emily, do you want to hold her first?"

"Yes," eagerly answered Prentiss.

"Spence?" asked JJ.

Reid gently took Rose from JJ's arms and he gently put her into Prentiss's arms. While carefully holding Rose's head up, Prentiss immediately fell in love with her.

"Hi, Rose," warmly greeted Prentiss. "I'm your Auntie Emily. My God, I have so much I wanna teach you."

Reid and JJ held hands while smiling at Prentiss.

"If anything happens to me and Spence," said JJ. "It's up to you and Morgan to get our little girl into Yale, Auntie Emily."

"You hear that, girl genius?" asked Prentiss. "You're going to Yale!"

"Take a good look, Morgan," smiled Reid.

"This will be you guys in 9 months," smiled JJ.

Morgan and Prentiss smiled at each other.

"Oh, I have to get a family shot!" said Garcia while pulling out her cell phone.

"Only one shot," ordered JJ. "I look terrible!"

"No, JJ," said Reid. "You look beautiful."

JJ looked into her Spence's eyes and she just knew that he was telling her the truth. JJ blushed and she smiled lovingly at Reid. JJ and Reid kissed each other's lips.

Garcia had a nurse take a family photo on her cell phone of everybody circled around JJ's hospital bed. Garcia shared the photo to the rest of their extended family with a text saying, "Hi, family! Meet Rosalyn Diana Reid!" Agents Anderson and Gina smiled from looking at the phone photo. Sam smiled while looking at the phone photo. Kate, Chris and Megan Callahan smiled from looking at the phone photo. Jessica Brooks, Beth Clemons and Jack Hotchner smiled from looking at the phone photo. Jordan Todd smiled while looking at the phone photo. Alex and James Blake smiled while looking at the phone photo. Mateo and Abigail Cruz smiled from looking at the phone photo. Hayden Montgomery smiled while looking at the phone photo. Joy, Kai and Sam Struthers smiled from looking at the phone photo. Ashley Seaver smiled while looking at the phone photo. And, Stephen Gideon smiled from looking at the phone photo.

During JJ's maternity leave and Morgan's desk duty, the BAU team performed admirably in working cases with two teammates down. Morgan and Prentiss visited Reid and JJ constantly until Prentiss was ready to return to duty. Inspired by Reid and JJ, Prentiss borrowed Morgan's headphone set to play some Rhythm and Blues music on her belly for the baby during verbal reports about abusive and murderous unsubs in either the jet or the round table room. Reid worked part-time during the maternity leave while helping take care of JJ, Henry and Rose at home. Whenever the BAU team needed his genius to help solve a case, Reid consulted with them over the phone whenever he stayed at home. Sandy stayed with Henry and JJ helping them take care of Rose whenever Reid went over to Quantico. Diana visited Reid and JJ once a week to spend the whole day reading books to Rose and Henry. With Morgan's desk duty, Morgan either hung out with Garcia in her lair or Garcia would hang out with Morgan in his office during cases. Morgan apologized to Garcia for calling her special magic blind optimism.

Three months later, JJ was fit to return to duty from her maternity leave. Reid escorted her back into the bullpen with Garcia, Rossi, Morgan and Prentiss waiting for them. Hotch was in his office talking on the phone. Reid and JJ walked through the glass doors.

"Surprise!" cheered everybody.

Reid smiled while JJ happily gasped. Garcia and JJ hugged each other tightly.

"Mmmm, I've missed you," smiled JJ.

"Oh," happily grunted Garcia. "We've missed you more!"

JJ and Rossi Italian-kissed each other. Prentiss and JJ hugged each other tightly.

"Mmmm," smiled Prentiss. "It's so good to see you back here, JJ!"

"Oh, it's so good to see you back here," smiled JJ. "How are you doing, mommy?"

Prentiss put her hands on her belly.

"Oh, I'm feeling a little heavier every day," answered Prentiss. "But, I'm enjoying having this little Morgan growing inside of me."

"I know both of those feelings," smiled JJ.

"How's Rose?" asked Garcia.

"She's great," answered JJ.

"She's home sleeping with Sandy," added Reid.

"For now!" smiled JJ. "And, Emily, I showed Rose the photo from when you first visited us. She kicked her little feet up and smiled at you."

Prentiss's heart soared.

"She knows me," warmly smiled Prentiss.

"I think she wants to see you," said JJ.

"You know, studies have shown that babies first start exhibiting cognizable and nonverbal communication within days of birth," said Reid.

"And, some things never change!" laughed Prentiss while lovingly hugging Reid with one arm.

"Okay," said Morgan while looking at JJ. "You did not just have another baby."

Morgan and JJ hugged each other.

"Hi," happily whispered JJ.

"Seriously," said Morgan. "What's your secret? 'Cause you look good!"

"Yeah, you see these pecks?" asked JJ while flexing her arm muscles. "They're from lugging two children around all day!"

"Ooh, baby weightlifting," smiled Garcia. "Now, that's a fitness DVD I would buy!"

"You're my personal fitness trainer after I give birth!" ordered Prentiss.

"Deal," laughed JJ. "Look at all of these presents. Spence gave Rose his first original encyclopedia set as a present."

"Yes," said Reid. "I realize that most of the information is available on that 'internet,' but you can't teach old-school study habits too soon."

"If Rose inherited her father's reading 20,000 words per minute," said Rossi. "Then, she will have read the whole set before she turns one!"

Prentiss, Garcia, JJ and Reid laughed.

"Who wants to give their present first?" asked Reid.

"Oh, we do," insisted Morgan. "We've kept it hidden in my office until you returned, JJ."

Prentiss and Morgan handed Reid and JJ a rectangular gift wrapped present. Reid and JJ unwrapped it to see that it was an enlarged framed photo of Garcia's first family photo with Rose in the hospital.

"Oh, you guys," warmly smiled JJ.

"It's perfect," said Reid. "Thank you."

"You can hang it up on your wall when you return home," said Prentiss.

Morgan put his right arm around Reid and his left arm around JJ.

"Hey," said Morgan. "I didn't get a chance to say this at the hospital, but I'm sorry that I almost caused you two to miss having your baby together."

"Apology accepted," said JJ.

Morgan and Reid hugged each other.

"Your heart was in the right place," said Reid.

"Yeah," agreed JJ. "But, if we ever have another baby, don't do that to us again. If you do, I can easily choose another godfather!"

Morgan and JJ hugged each other.

"Consider me warned," smiled Morgan.

Hotch walked in the bullpen.

"Welcome back, JJ," smiled Hotch.

"Hi," smiled JJ.

Hotch and JJ hugged each other.

"We've all missed you," said Hotch.

"I've missed you, too," whispered JJ.

"And now that all of us are here," smiled Garcia. "Here is your Bureau-approved bubbly!"

Rossi had seven wine glasses of sparkling cider sitting on Reid's desk. Everybody picked up a glass.

"Welcome back, Agent Jareau," said Rossi. "We've missed you more than I can ever tell you!"

"Cheers!" smiled JJ.

Everybody clinked their glasses together and drank to Rossi's toast.

"And now for my present. I wanted to give you...this!" Garcia said in her singsong voice.

Garcia walked JJ around to her desk to see that she had put up photos of Rose all over JJ's desk. JJ holding Rose, Reid holding Rose, JJ and Reid's first photo together with Rose, Prentiss holding Rose, Morgan holding Rose, Henry holding Rose, Garcia's first family photo with Rose at the hospital, Sandy holding Rose and Diana holding her namesake while reading Rose a book. JJ's heart soared.

"Penelope," warmly smiled JJ. "It's perfect. I love it. And, I love all of you! Thank you."

Prentiss received a call on her cell phone.

Prentiss said, "Excuse me."

JJ laughed, "All of you should have seen Penelope wheeling me into the maternity wing after my water broke. She pulled out her badge and said, 'Help! I have an expectant mother here who needs help! This is Mrs. Jennifer Reid, FBI! I'm Penelope Garcia, FBI...'"

The BAU family laughed at JJ's memory of going into labor. Prentiss walked into the round table room.

"This is Prentiss," answered Prentiss.

Clyde Easter replied to Prentiss in French while chuckling.

"Clyde?" asked Prentiss.

"Yes, Emily," answered Easter. "I wanted to congratulate you on your marriage and your pregnancy, love. And, I'm sorry to hear that a sniper had recently put you in the hospital."

"So, you're not surprised?" asked Prentiss.

"Of course not," answered Easter. "Keeping tabs on my old assets is a hobby of mine. I would love to say that this was just a social call, Emily. But, I wanted you to know that there was a hit in the United States on one of our old cases."

"Which case?" asked Prentiss.

"The copy cat killer," answered Easter. "He's been spotted in New York."

Prentiss gasped, "No way!"

Morgan and Garcia walked into the round table room.

"Em?" said Garcia.

"What's wrong, Emily?" said Morgan.
