Jasper POV

Chapter 21

After Hazel makes it out the door I am back to glaring at Peter who seriously has no idea what he's done. How can he be so dumb right now.

Char I think that it would be best if you left right now." I leave no room for argument. She just nods her head and runs out the back door.

"Seriously Jasper what Jasper what just happened? And why did you make Char leave like that?"

"Are you seriously that blind. You have no idea how badly you just fucked up." He just shakes his head.

"One, you didn't correct Char when she called Nyx your friend. Two, you introduced Hazel as my mate but you never introduced Nyx as yours. And three, you didn't notice that not only was Char all over you but, she was also glaring daggers at your mate the whole time you didn't do a damn thing about it." I am fuming at this point. Those girls have been through enough Nyx included and she didn't need what just happened to happen to her.

He looks like the wind just got knocked out of him. I mean if that was even possible for vampires.

"Seriously Jasper I didn't notice."

"That's the problem man. You basically just denied that you had a mate the whole time. How bad do you think that looks especially after the little show that I had with Alice."

It looks like it has finally dawned on him how much he has just messed up. "Do you think she would ever forgive me Jasper?"

"Honestly Pete I don't know but, would you blame her if she didn't? Both of those girls have been through hell and back and then here we come claiming to be their mates and you then basically turn around and deny that claim in from of a woman who clearly wants you. I've told you for years that Char wants to be more than just your friend and you never listened to me, and it may have just cost you your mate."

Peter roars and punches the wall making a decent sized hole.

"Hey look I know you're pissed but don't break the house go and take it out on the woods and I am gonna go and check on our girls." He just nods. I run out to his truck and haul ass to Hazel's apartment. I run up to the door knocking I don't have to wait that long before Hazel is opening up the door.

I take her in my arms and she breaks down crying.

"What's wrong darlin?"

"I'm worried about Nyx, she's locked herself in her room and she hasn't come out since we got back home."

I rush to Nyx's room and knock on the door. I don't hear anything on the other side. I don't want to worry Hazel.

"Nyx honey if you're in there I need you to answer the door for me."

Again there is nothing. No sign of any kind of movement. Now I am worried. Without a second thought I am breaking down the door and rushing into the room. Immediately I see Nyx slumped on the ground passed out.

I run to her side picking her up.

"Hazel!"

She's running into the room noticing Nyx in my arms.

"Oh my God Jasper what happened?"

"I don't know darlin, but we need to get her to the hospital now." She nods her head and runs to my truck. I beat her there using my vampire speed taking her by surprise but she doesn't say anything.

"Come on I'm driving." She nods jumping into the passenger seat. I drive as fast as I can to the hospital not caring about the speed limit.

We get there in record time and I carry her into the emergency room where they have a bed waiting for her. I look at Hazel confused.

"I texted her doctor to let him know we were on our way and he made sure they had something ready for us." I nod my head. I wish this wasn't something that was normal for them.

It's been a couple hours and Nyx still hasn't woken up, they have ran so many tests on her I lost count, finally the doctor comes in.

"Hazel I am sorry to see you again. I hoped you wouldn't be here so soon."

"Me too Doc. Do we know what's going on?"

"Honestly it's probably just too much stress. When I called about a week ago I told her to be careful and not to stress too much or this could happen."

"What do you mean you called a week ago?"

"I am sorry Hazel I thought that you knew. I called Nyx with her test results and she is worse, much worse. There is nothing left for us to do for her. She has less than a year left at best and that was if she could stay away from stress. After this episode though I would give her six months max, but honestly that's being generous. When you brought her in her heart rate was so low it has almost stopped completely. Just today alone we almost lost her."

I cannot believe what the doctor is saying. I thought that Nyx had more time. Now come to find out that she has less than half a year left at best. I don't know what my Hazel is going to do without her best friend.

I can feel Hazel's turmoil and guilt at the news. Nyx never told her about the phone call and she is clearly blaming herself for not knowing how sick her friend truly was. Before she can collapse on the ground I take her in my arms rocking her while she cries.

The doctor quietly leaves the room giving us privacy.

"I didn't know Jasper she didn't tell me that it had gotten this bad."

"She probably didn't want to worry you darlin. She loves you so much."

"I just wish that I knew Jasper I would've spent more time with her. I would've watcher over her more. Why did she feel like she couldn't tell me."

"That's exactly why I didn't tell you, "We both hear from the bed next to us, "you would've dropped everything to make sure you were taking care of me all the time and that includes Jasper. I couldn't let you do that. You finally found someone who cared about you and I couldn't be selfish and let you give that up for me. You have already given up so much."

Hazel takes Nyx's hand in hers. "You are my sister if Jasper loves me like he says he does then he would've stuck around anyways."

I just nod my head because it's true I would do anything for Hazel and in turn Nyx. I truly see her as my little sister now.

Hazel just crawls into bed next to Nyx and they lay there in each other's arms. In this moment I made the decision that even if Nyx didn't take Peter back that I would turn her so that Hazel wouldn't have to lose her sister. So I wouldn't have to lose MY sister.

By morning the doctors are talking about releasing Nyx by the end of the day after they do a treatment, but she is still in the clothes that she left the ranch in and so she has been in them for a couple days now.

We agreed that when they take Nyx for her treatment that I would let Hazel take my truck to their place to get Nyx some clothes and let her freshen up while I ran home to change and I would meet her back at their place and we would head ack to the hospital and wait for Nyx and take her home.

It didn't take long for them to come get Nyx so I walked Hazel to my truck. If it was anyone else I would never trust them with my truck. This girl is definitely something special.

"Are you going to be alright heading home darlin?" She just nods her head.

"I'll be okay Jasper but please hurry back." She kisses me softly on the lips before she starts up my truck and heads out of the parking lot.

The moment I cannot see her anymore I start running towards the ranch stopping for a quick bite just to be safe. When I get home Peter is waiting for me on the porch. Boy here we go.
