When we finally landed, I stared at The Master from the ramp.

"Don't look at me like that," he told me. "We have work to do."

"I don't work with you. I've never worked with you since you..."

"Ah, ah, ah." He quickly moved in front of me and placed a finger on my lips. "I did nothing. You chose wrong."

"No, I didn't," I corrected from him trying to move away. He'd managed to trap me between the ramp and his body. "I chose him, and that pisses you off more than anything."

"You were supposed to be mine!" he shouted at me and I shrank back from his anger and his raised hand. He ran his fingers gently down my face. "And now, you are."

"I'm not yours and I never will be." His gentle touch turned into a hard slap across my face, forcing me to look to the side by the force of the blow.

"You can't escape me, not anymore. Not when I have this." He clapped something on my wrist and I quickly looked down at it. "This was the only other thing I had when I was found. Never understood why I held onto it until you helped me remember."

"What have you done?" I tried taking the bracelet off. It was a thick gold band with a stone in the center. The stone looked like an aquamarine stone, but this was forbidden for any Time Lord to use. The council forbade its use centuries ago almost immediately after it'd been created and the results of what it could do were known.

"Now you'll never leave my side," he told me and I just shook my head at him.

"The Shadow Bond may force me to remain by your side, but it can't force me to do anything I don't want to do," I reminded him. "What were you even thinking, taking this?"

"He can't take you so long as you wear this. And no one but me can take it off," he told me and I sighed. "I added a few things to the Shadow Bond. I can tighten your leash so you must stay by my side, or I can let you roam.

"So what now?" I asked him quietly.

"Now the real fun begins." He grinned down at me and I held on as he put his plan in motion.

Eighteen months later...

The Master and I walked down the steps from the palace, his hand dragging me along with him. Behind me was a human woman, Lucy, who was pretending to be his sister just so she could stay close to him. I was back to being Ashlee Tyler. Well, Ashlee Saxon now.

"Mister Saxon, this way, sir. Come on, kiss for the lady, sir."

He greeted the people around us before pulling me in for a kiss. I turned my head away from his mouth so he'd have to kiss my cheek instead of my lips. He hadn't kissed me the way he wanted to for eighteen months, and I wasn't about to allow him to start now.

"This country has been sick. This country needs healing. This country needs medicine. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that what this country really needs right now, is a Doctor." I took a deep breath at his words before he pulled me into a car with him.

I followed behind the Master as we walked along the corridor at 10 Downing Street while aides hand him various reports.

"Finance report, sir."

"Military protocol, sir."

"EC directive, sir."

"Annual budget, sir."

"Policy recommendations." We arrived outside the Cabinet Room and he sighed at the door before turning to me and Lucy.

"I'm so proud of you, Harry," Lucy told him. The Master ran his thumb along her cheek before leaning close to my ear.

"Soon, my love, the fruit of our labors will be harvested."

"You're a monster," I whispered before he ran his fingers down my face.

"I'll loosen the leash, but don't leave this building."

"Sir," I turned to see Tish, Martha's sister, standing in front of us. "If you don't mind me asking. I'm sorry, but it's all a bit new. What exactly do you want me to do?"

"Oh yes, what was it?" the Master asked her.

"Tish. Letitia Jones," she told him.

"Tish. Well then, Tish, you just stand there and look gorgeous." He raised her chin up slightly before going inside the Cabinet room.

Lucy escorted me to one of the drawing rooms and I sat down on one of the many couches.

"Leave me alone, Lucy," I ordered. The Master had taken my gun six months ago before he'd found Lucy and shown her the universe.

"But if I do that, Harry might be cross with me," she told me in a bittersweet voice. I picked up one of my shoes and threw it in her direction.

"I said leave me alone. I shouldn't have to remind you, but I can't leave. So be a good guard dog and stand on the other side of the door." She sneered at me before moving to one of the doors leading away from the room. I sighed before going to pick up the shoe. I moved back to the couch and put it back on before falling over. I knew the Doctor was in this time, I could sense him just as the Master could. The Master had taken my actual wedding band from the Doctor and replaced it when he forged our marriage. I closed my eyes and was about to try and find the Doctor when the door burst open. I sat up and saw Tish following an older woman who made a beeline for me.

"Mrs. Saxon. Vivien Rook, Sunday Mirror. You've heard of me," she said.

"No, I haven't," I corrected her. "Can I have an hour to myself? Please?" I asked her.

"Oh, strike while the iron's hot, that's what I say, Ashlee. I can call you Ashlee, can't I?" she asked me.

"Go for it."

"Now, everyone's talking about Harold Saxon, but I thought, What about the wife? All I need is twenty minutes," Vivien told me.

"I think maybe we should wait," I told her. "After all, this is Harold's big day. Not mine." I forced a small smile on my face and she just smiled at me.

"The headline's waiting to print," she said quickly. She wanted something other than an interview. "The Power Behind the Throne."

"Really?" I asked giving her a look.

"Britain's First Lady."

"Is that right?"

"Front page."

"Hmm," I pretended to think about it before smiling at her. "What could twenty minutes hurt?"

"Excellent! Thank you. Go, go, what was it? Er, Tish. Now you can leave us alone." Vivien gave Tish her coat and Tish looked at me confused. I knew she recognized me from her time as Lazarus' assistant and my words rang in my ears.

"More than that. He's my husband. The only man I've ever wanted."

"No, but I'm supposed to sit in?" she asked me.

"No, no, it's only a profile piece. You know, hair and clothes and nonsense. There's a good girl. Out you go. That's it."

"Tish," she looked at me, hopeful, while Vivian looked worried I'd insist she'd stay. "Why don't you call Martha? See what she's up to? Don't forget to tell her the good news." Tish nodded at me before leaving the room and Vivian turned to me.

"Mrs. Saxon, I have reason to believe that you're in very great danger. All of us, in fact. Not just the country, but the whole world. No, I beg of you, hear me out," Vivian told me sitting next to me.

"I can assure you, I'm in no danger from him," I told her.

"Your husband is not who he says he is. I'm sorry, but it's a lie. Everything's a lie," she told me. "All of it. The school days, his degree, even his mother and father, it's all invented. Look," she held up a false photo of the Master in a graduation robe and hat holding a degree. "Harold Saxon never went to Cambridge. There was no Harold Saxon. The thing is, it's obvious. The forgery is screaming out and yet no one can see it. It's as if he's mesmerized the entire world."

"I think you need to leave now," I told her worriedly. If the Master heard her talking like this he'd kill her.

"Eighteen months ago, he became real. This is his first, honest to God appearance, just after the downfall of Harriet Jones. And at the exact same time, they launched the Archangel Network," she said, telling me what I already knew.

"Mrs. Rook, now stop it. Please," I nearly begged her.

"Even now they've said that the Cabinet has gone into seclusion. I mean, what does that mean, seclusion?" she asked me.

"I don't know," I told her quietly.

"But I've got plenty of research on you. Yes, good family, mother and sister missing, deceased father, not especially bright but essentially harmless." I almost snorted when she said I was harmless. "And that's why I'm asking you, Ashlee. I am begging you. If you have seen anything, heard anything, even the slightest thing that would give you cause to doubt him?"

"Mrs. Rook."

"Yes?"

"I've known this man my entire life. We grew up together, but I'm sorry."

"What? Just tell me, sweetheart," she told me placing her hands on mine.

"The thing is, I can't save you know. I tried to get you to leave, but you just wouldn't drop it."

"I'm sorry?"

"I may be forced to remain at his side, but why can't anyone listen when I try to save their lives anymore?"

"My loving wife and only friend." Vivian looked behind me to see the Master leaning on the doorframe.

"Mr. Saxon." She got up from beside me and gathered her materials. "Prime Minister, I was just having a little joke with poor little Ashlee. I didn't mean..."

"Oh, but you're absolutely right," The Master told her moving to my side and forcing me to stand next to him. "Harold and Ashlee Saxon doesn't exist."

"Then tell me. Who are you?" Vivian asked him in all seriousness. I just looked down at the ground, knowing what was coming.

"I am the Master and these are my friends." Four silver spheres popped into existence and orbited around us.

"You should've left when I told you to," I told her sadly.

"Can't you hear it, Mrs. Rook?" the Master asked her.

"What do you mean?"

"The drumbeat. The drums coming closer and closer." Spikes were now sticking out from the spheres.

"The lady doesn't like us."

"Silly lady."

"No," Vivian begged.

"I'm sorry."

"Dead lady." The Master grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the drawing room, Vivian's screaming only stopping once the door was closed. The Master waited a moment before opening the door to hear her scream before closing it again. He opened it a third time and she was still screaming.

"Stop it!" I whispered/yelled at him. "Just stop it." He moved away from the door handle and stared at me as I moved to the other side of the doorframe. "She knew everything," I nearly laughed. "So much for Archangel being one hundred percent."

"Ninety-nine, ninety-eight?"

"But if she's asking questions, then who else? How much time do you really have?" I asked him with a smirk on my face. He grabbed my arms and pulled me to his chest. I tried making him release me, but his grip was iron.

"Tomorrow morning. I promise. That's when everything ends," he told me.

I stood next to Lucy as the Master spoke to Britain from the cabinet room. He'd tightened the leash once again. Seems I couldn't be trusted.

"Britain, Britain, Britain. What extraordinary times we've had. Just a few years ago, this world was so small. And then they came, out of the unknown, falling from the skies. You've seen it happen. Big Ben destroyed. A spaceship over London. All those ghosts and metal men. The Christmas star that came to kill. Time and time again, and the government told you nothing." I looked down at Lucy's fingers and shook my head when I saw them crossed. "Well, not me. Not Harold Saxon. Because my purpose here today is to tell you this. Citizens of Great Britain, I have been contacted. A message for humanity, from beyond the stars." He nodded to someone and I looked at the prerecorded clip he'd made and watched the sphere as blue lights ran across the surface.

"People of the Earth, we come in peace. We bring great gifts. We bring technology and wisdom and protection. And all we ask in return is your friendship."

"Ooo, sweet. And this species has identified itself. They are called the Toclafane." I made a disapproving noise before shaking my head. Lucy dug her nails into my arm and I winced at the pain. Bitch. "And tomorrow morning, they will appear. Not in secret, but to all of you. Diplomatic relations with a new species will begin. Tomorrow, we take our place in the universe. Every man, woman, and child. Every teacher and chemist and lorry driver and farmer. Oh, I don't know, every medical student?"

With his speech done, he dismissed everyone from the cabinet room. When we were finally alone, I slapped him.

"What have you done?" I asked him angrily.

"I've made sure he knew I knew he was here," he told me and I just shook my head before moving away from him.

"And Martha? Jack?"

"Knowing him, he'll save them. Your little group is safe." He watched me as I paced. "You'll be hearing them soon, love." I stared at him in shock. "Don't you want to hear your beloved again?" I stared at him for a moment before answering.

"Leave them alone. Forget all of this. Things could be so different if you'd just.."

"No." I sighed and shook my head, going back to my pacing. I heard his phone ring and he linked it with the speaker system in the room.

"Mister Saxon, we have Condition Red on the Jones plan. We're taking them in. All of them." He just smirked up at me.

"It's almost time. Everything's falling into place."

"Leave the humans alone, we can all leave and fight anywhere else you want." I placed my hand on his arm. "Please?" He messed with the speakers in the room before waiting.

"Leo!" I heard Martha's voice over the speakers and before I could say anything, the Master placed his hand over my mouth and pulled my back against his chest. "Oh, thank God. Leo, you got to listen to me. Where are you?"

"I'm in Brighton. Yeah, we came down with Boxer. Did you see that Saxon thing on telly?" her brother told her.

"Leo, just listen to me. Don't go home. I'm telling you. Don't phone Mum or Dad or Tish. You've got to hide."

"Shut up."

"On my life. You've got to trust me. Go to Boxer's. Stay with him. Don't tell anyone. Just hide."

"Ooo, a nice little game of hide and seek. I love that. But I'll find you, Martha Jones," the Master told her and I could almost hear her breathe stop. "Been a long time since we saw each other. Must be, what, one hundred trillion years?"

"Let them go, Saxon. Do you hear me! Let them go!" Martha shouted at him.

"I'm here." I don't remember my heart ever racing so much hearing his voice, but I imagine spending almost every moment with the same person then being ripped away from them for eighteen months will do that to you.

"Doctor."

"Master."

"I like it when you use my name," The Master told him.

"You chose it. Psychiatrist's field day," The Doctor said and I almost laughed at that.

"As you chose yours. The man who makes people better. How sanctimonious is that? Not to mention The Hunter." The Doctor was silent on the other end of the phone. "The woman who protects the Doctor and hunts those who'd hurt him."

"Where is she?" the Doctor asked him.

"She's right in front of me." He removed his hand from my mouth.

"Doctor," I called to him with a smile on my face.

"Hunter. Did he hurt you? What's going on?"

"He had the Shadow Bond."

"Take it off her," The Doctor ordered.

"No, I don't think I will," the Master told him. "She's got quite the talent for... well, I shouldn't have to tell you, should I?" I was about to slap him, but the Master wrapped his arm around my arms and waist.

"So, Prime Minister, then." The Doctor was trying to figure out what the Master was planning.

"I know. It's good, isn't it?" The Master asked him.

"Who are those creatures? Because there's no such thing as the Toclafane. It's just a made up name, like the Bogeyman," the Doctor reminded him.

"Do you remember all those fairy tales about the Toclafane when we were kids back home," The Master asked fondly. "Where is it, Doctor?" I froze and the Master stared at me.

"Gone." The Master's grip tightened on me.

"How can Gallifrey be gone?"

"It burnt."

"And the Time Lords?"

"Dead. And the Daleks, more or less. What happened to you?" The Doctor finally asked him.

"The Time Lords only resurrected me because they knew I'd be the perfect warrior for a Time War like the Hunter was. I was there when the Dalek Emperor took control of the Cruciform. I saw it. I ran. I ran so far. Made myself human so they would never find me because I was so scared."

"I know."

"All of them?" The Master asked, putting his confusion into those two words as he worked everything out. "But not you two, which must mean..."

"I was the only one who could end it. And I tried. I did. I tried everything," The Doctor assured him.

"What did it feel like, though? Two almighty civilizations burning. Oh, tell me, how did that feel?" the Master asked him, removing his hand from my mouth to run it down my face again.

"Stop it!" I ordered.

"You must have been like God."

"Enough!" I said and he pulled me to him tighter.

"We've been alone ever since. But not anymore. Don't you see? All we've got is each other."

"Are you asking me out on a date? What will your wife think?" The Master looked at me in shock.

"You could stop this right now. We could leave this planet. We can fight across the constellations if that's what you want, but not on Earth."

"Too late."

"Why do you say that?"

"The drumming. Can't you hear it?" The Master asked him. "I thought it would stop, but it never does. Never ever stops. Inside my head, the drumming, Doctor. The constant drumming."

"I could help you. Please, let me help," The Doctor begged. The Master had been our friend once, maybe the Doctor could reach him.

"It's everywhere. Listen, listen, listen. Here come the drums. Here come the drums."

"What have you done? Tell me how you've done this. What are those creatures? Tell me!" The Doctor roared as the Master moved us to the computer which was on one of the local news channels.

"Ooo look. You're on TV."

"Stop it. Answer me," The Doctor ordered.

"No, really. You're on telly. You and your little band, which, by the way, is ticking every demographic box. So, congratulations on that. Look, there you are." The computer was on silent so I couldn't hear what it was saying, but the pictures of the Doctor, Martha, and Jack were shown to be terrorists.

"You're public enemies number one, two and three. Oh, and you can tell handsome Jack that I've sent his little gang off on a wild goose chase to the Himalayas, so he won't be getting any help from them." The Master switched the laptop screen to the CCTV feed of a shopping precinct and I could see the Doctor on the phone as Jack and Martha watched him. "Now, go on, off you go. Why not start by turning to the right?" The Doctor spun until he saw the camera.

"He can see us." The Doctor pointed his sonic at the camera and the picture was gone.

"Oh, you public menace. Better start running. Go on, run."

"He's got control of everything."

"What do we do?"

"We've got nowhere to go."

"Doctor, what do we do?"

"Run, Doctor. Run for your life!"

"We run."

"I said, run!" The phone was hung up and I stared at the computer where I'd last seen the Doctor. Eighteen months was way too long to be apart from him. "Well, that was fun." I struggled out of the Master's grip and turned to stare at him.

"How dare you! You pathetic son of a bitch!" I slapped him across his face and he grabbed my upper arms, forcing my chest to his.

"You should remember your place, wife."

"I'm not your wife." I ripped off the false wedding band and dropped it on the ground. "Get over it." He moved his hand from my upper arm and gripped my arm right under the shackle he'd placed on me over a year ago.

"This keeps you with me, so long as you have it on you remain at my side. Not his," he nearly yelled at me. "I think I need to tighten my leash on you from now on. You will remain at my side until I say otherwise."

"Mr. Saxon." We looked at the man standing in the doorway. He stared at us before continuing his sentence. "It's the President of the United States, sir."

That night, I stood next to the Master as the President walked to us from his plane. As he approached us the Master saluted to him.

"Mr. President, sir."

"Mr. Saxon, the British Army will stand down. From now on, UNIT has control of this operation," President Winters told us.

"You make it sound like an invasion."

"First Contact policy was decided by the Security Council in 1968, and you've just gone and ignored it."

"Well, you know what it's like. New job, all that paperwork. I think it's down the back of the settee. I did have a quick look. I found a pen, a sweet, a bus ticket and er, have you met the wife?" The Master pushed me towards the President, but the man just ignored me. Any other situation I'd probably be extremely annoyed.

"Mr. Saxon, I'm not sure what your game is but there are provisions at the United Nations to have you removed from office unless you are very, very careful. Is that understood?" The Master pretended to zip his lips and lock them closed. "Are you taking this seriously?" He nodded his head slowly. "To business. We've accessed your files on these Toclafane. First Contact cannot take place on any sovereign soil. To that purpose, the aircraft carrier Valiant is en route. The rendezvous will take place there at eight am." The Master tried to talk, but it came out muffled. "You're trying my patience, sir."

"So America is completely in charge?" The Master finally asked him.

"Since Britain elected an ass, yes. I'll see you onboard the Valiant." The President moved away from us, but the Master stopped him.

"It still will be televised, though, won't it. Because I promised, and the whole world is watching."

"Since it's too late to pull out, the world will be watching. Me." The President walked to his motorcade and the Master leaned down to whisper in my ear.

"The last President of America. We have a private plane ready and waiting. We should reach the Valiant within the hour. My darling." I moved towards the car with a security guard when the Master turned to look in another direction. I watched him stare into the distance before a police van arrived. The Master threw his hands up in happiness and ran to the van as it opened to reveal Martha's parents.

"Ha ha ha! Hi, guys!" The Master laughed and danced in front of them.

"You can't just do this." I turned my face away from them in shame as they were shoved into a car.

"All will be revealed." The Master kissed the side of my head and I tried to move away from him but The Shadow Bond kept me close to him.

"Two minutes, everyone." President Winters said when the Master and I entered the flight deck of the Valiant. I watched as Winters headed up the steps before the Master escorted us to front row seats to what was about to happen. "According to the treaty, all armed personnel are requested to leave the flight deck immediately. Thank you." Lucy followed me to a seat and smiled at the Master.

"Five, four, three, two, one."

"Jelly baby?" The Master asked me and I gave him a look.

"Broadcasting at seven fifty-eight with arrival timed for eight hundred hours exactly. And, er, good luck to all of us."

"My fellow Americans, patriots, people of the world. I stand before you today as ambassador for humanity, a role I will undertake with the utmost solemnity. Perhaps our Toclafane cousins can offer us much, but what is important is not that we gain material benefits, but that we learn to see ourselves anew. For as long as man has looked at the stars, he has wondered what mysteries they hold. Now we know we are not alone. No longer unique in the universe. And I ask you now, I ask of the human race, to join with me in welcoming our friends. I give you the Toclafane." Four spheres appeared and I nearly held my breath. "My name is Arthur Coleman Winters, President Elect of the United States of America, and designated representative of the United Nations. I welcome you to the planet Earth and its associated moon."

"You're not the Master."

"We like the Mister Master."

"We don't like you."

"I can be master, if you so wish," Winters told them uncertainly. "I will accept mastery over you if that is God's will."

"Man is stupid."

"Master is our friend."

"Where's my Master, pretty please?"

"Oh, all right then. It's me. Stay here." With the last part mumbled to me, the Master jumped up from his seat and did a small dance move. "Ta da! Sorry, sorry, I have this effect. People just get obsessed. Is it the smile? Is it the aftershave? Is it the capacity to laugh at myself? I don't know. It's crazy."

"Saxon, what are you talking about?" Winters asked him angrily.

"I'm taking control, Uncle Sam, starting with you. Kill him." A sphere pointed its weapon at Winters and blasted him into little pieces. The Master laughed and applauded before grabbing my hand and moving up the steps. Lucy followed me with a grin on her face.

"Guards."

"Nobody move! Nobody move!" The guards pointed their guns at the people in front of us.

"Now then, peoples of the Earth. Please attend carefully." I saw the Doctor holding a rope with a key on the end of it. He ran forward and two men in black grabbed him.

"Doctor!" I tried moving forward, but the Shadow Bond and the Master stopped me.

"Stop him!"

"We meet at last, Doctor. Oh, ho. I love saying that," The Master said smirking down at the Doctor.

"Stop it! Stop it now!" The Doctor ordered.

"As if a perception filter's going to work on me. And look, it's the girlie and the freak. Although, I'm not sure which one's which." I looked up to see Jack and Martha standing in the back of the room. Jack ran forward.

"No!" I tried warning him, but the Master fired his screwdriver at him killing him.

"Laser screwdriver. Who'd have sonic?" The Master asked the Doctor. "And the good thing is, he's not dead for long. I get to kill him again!"

"Master, just calm down. Just look at what you're doing. Just stop. If you could see yourself..."

"Oh, do excuse me. Little bit of personal business. Back in a minute. Let him go." The Master ordered the guards before releasing me from his tight grip and into one of the guard's.

"It's that sound. The sound in your head. What if I could help?" The Doctor asked him.

"Oh, how to shut him up? I know. Memory Lane. Professor Lazarus. Remember him and his genetic manipulation device? What, did you think that little Tish got that job merely by coincidence? I've been laying traps for you all this time. And if I can concentrate all that Lazarus technology into one little screwdriver? But, ooo, if I only had the Doctor's biological code. Oh, wait a minute, I do." The Master moved to a large metal briefcase and opened it revealing the Doctor's hand. "I've got his hand. And if Lazarus made himself younger, what if I reverse it? Another hundred years?" The Master aimed his screwdriver at the Doctor, who started to rapidly convulse.

"No! Leave him alone!" I ordered. When the Doctor stopped convulsing he looked at least a hundred years older.

"Doctor? I've got you." Martha caught him before he fell to the ground.

"Ah, she's a would be doctor. But tonight, Martha Jones, we've flown them in all the way from prison." Her parents and sister were brought in, their wrists fastened together with cable ties.

"Come on, move."

"Mum," Martha said quietly.

"I'm sorry." Francine had tears in her eyes.

"The Toclafane. What are they? Who are they?" The Doctor asked the Master, his voice sounded deeper. Weaker.

"Doctor, if I told you the truth, your hearts would break." The Master told him, placing his hand on the Doctor's chest.

"Is it time? Is it ready?"

"Is the machine singing?" The Master checked his watch and smirked.

"Two minutes past." The Master took me from the guard's grip and back into his. "So, Earthings. Basically, er, end of the world. Here come the drums!" The Master raised his hand over his head, screwdriver in hand, as Voodoo Child started playing.

"Here come the drums. Here come the drums. Baby, baby, baby. You are my voodoo child, my voodoo child. Don't say maybe, maybe." The Master moved to the small window as a tear opened in the sky above us and thousands of spheres poured out. "It's supernatural. I'm coming undone. Baby, baby, baby. You are my voodoo child, my voodoo child. Don't say maybe, maybe. It's supernatural. I'm coming undone. Baby, baby, baby. You are my voodoo child, my voodoo child." Lucy joined us at the Master's other side and he took a deep breath.

"How many do you think?" he asked her.

"I, I don't know," Lucy said breathlessly.

"Six billion." The Master raised his hand up before bringing it back down. "Down you go, kids!" The spheres head to the Earth and I knew they'd open fire on the innocent people below us. "Shall we decimate them? That sounds good. A nice word, decimate. Remove one tenth of the population!" I turned around to avoid watching them descend in time to see the Doctor whisper something in Martha's ear. She stood up and slowly moved away from him, holding something in her hand.

"Valiant, this is Geneva. We're getting slaughtered down here. Valiant, report. Help us. For God's sake, help us! They're everywhere!"

"This is London, Valiant. This is London calling. What do we do? They're killing us! The Toclafane are all around. They're killing us." Martha teleported away and the boys shared a look before the Doctor nodded at Jack. He looked up at me and I stared into his worried gaze. I tried reassuring him with a smile, but I don't think I helped much. One of the guards brought the Doctor to stand between Lucy and the Master, who still had me in his gaze. They forced us to watch the slaughter below us.

"And so it came to pass that the human race fell, and the Earth was no more. And I looked down upon my new dominion as Master of all, and I thought it good."
