I stood next to Ardeth, at his request, as he shook the hand of the next curator of the museum, one of his younger brothers Akeem, where his uncle served before. I was only here because Ardeth requested it. If the elders had their way I wouldn't even be breathing the same air as Ardeth. I thought back to the last memory I had of Amunet. A man, whose face I couldn't remember, killed her simply for being pregnant with Ramses child. I placed my hand on my abdomen as I thought about the pain she went through. The pain of losing a child. The pain of losing her love. She never thought about herself when she was dying, she only thought of Ramses and her unborn babe. I looked up at Ardeth as he spoke to the new curator. I'd known how I felt for him for some time, but it wouldn't happen so why bother living in a fantasy? I lowered my hand and watched them talk about everything the job entailed, how he would report to Ardeth and the elders, what he was approved to do, etcetera. The man already knew his job, everyone knew it, but this was part of the process. I heard something behind me and I turned to look. Something inside me froze at the brunette who was staring at me. His familiar dark eyes looked me up and down before he started coming our way. I looked back at Ardeth to see the man had gained his attention as well.

"Excuse me?" I turned back to the men. He was slightly taller than I was and, next to almost any other man, he could have been called handsome, but something glinted in his eyes I didn't like. "Do you work here?" he finally looked at the men behind me.

"I'm the curator of this museum. Can I help you?" Akeem asked him, standing taller in his new position.

"I'd heard a young woman used to work here. Evelyn Carnahan?" He looked back at me and I felt Ardeth's gaze on my back.

"I'm afraid no woman by that name works here," Akkem told him. "If you'll excuse us." Akeem made a motion to where his new office and Ardeth started that way. I nodded my head at the man before following Ardeth. The man grabbed my arm and I looked into his eyes at the motion before a memory flashed before my eyes.

"I'm afraid you'll have to leave, Lord Ammon," I told the man holding my arm before turning to join the royal family in the dining hall. Ammon grabbed my arm and I looked into his eyes at the motion.

"You really think he'd marry a common woman?" Ammon asked me. "He'll get what he wants out of you before tossing you away. That's what they all do."

"Watch your tongue before it's ripped from your skull!" I ordered. "You know nothing about Ramses and I'd suggest from refraining to try." I pulled my arm from his grip before walking away from him.

"You'll never be truly happy with him," Ammon called after me. "I guarantee it."

"Do I know you?" the man asked me and I ripped my arm from his grip.

"No." I turned and joined Ardeth in walking to Akeem's new office.

"Are you alright?" Ardeth asked giving me a quick look over.

"Yeah," I nodded giving the man one last look. "I'm fine."

The journey back home was quiet, quieter than the journey into Cairo.

"Would you tell me?" Ardeth asked me and I looked at him curiously.

"Tell you what?"

"If you met him? Ramses?" I searched his face from my horse before smiling.

"Is that who you think I met?" I asked him. "Believe me, that wasn't Ramses. I think that was someone who lusted after Amunet."

"But would you tell me if you'd met Ramses?" he asked again and I couldn't help the teasing smile on my face.

"Is that jealousy I hear in your voice, old friend?" I teased and his cheeks reddened making me laugh. "You don't need to worry, Ardeth. You'll know the moment I see Ramses. If I see Ramses."

"You'll see him again," he tried making me feel better, but it wouldn't work. I was happy where I was in life, I didn't need some guy I was supposed to fall in love with ruining everything.

"What happened to him?" I asked suddenly. "When Amunet died, what happened to Ramses?"

"As you know she was pregnant with their first child. After their death Ramses was inconsolable. He went into a rage that couldn't be quelled. Once they found Amunet's killer, he had him tortured before being buried alive. They say he was grateful when death finally came," Ardeth told me and I thought back on the memories I had of the man. How could someone change so drastically? "One of the Medji in Cairo gave this to me for you." I looked at a letter in Ardeth's hands before taking it.

"Who's it from?" I asked him.

"Your brother." I read the letter quickly and smiled. It wasn't a letter, but an invitation.

"How do you feel about weddings?" I asked him, showing him the decorative wedding invite. "Seems like Rick and Eve are getting married."
