Aftermath Part 2) The next day the Virginian went into town to pick up the Judge from the train. He had sent Randy out with the others so he wouldn't be alone. How was your trip, Judge? Oh, it was decent as far as business trips go. Did anything happen while I was gone? Something did happen; but it's a long story. Well, I've got plenty of time to listen. One day Randy and Betsy were out riding and they found this cave with some old coins and a skeleton in it. I don't follow you, what happened? Do you remember the story about that funny old fella who used to live up in Shiloh country right after the war, Judge? Wasn't he the one who would exchange English money for American money? Yes, that's right. Well, anyway the story made it into all the papers in the territory and it brought two men here to Shiloh. Who were they? One was an official from the War Claims Department of the U.S. Treasury named Mr Duggan and he was looking for a quarter of a million dollars buried here on Shiloh. He said the skeleton we found was a man named Robert MacDermott who had taken the money from the Merchants Bank of Roanoke after Appomattox.
