CHAPTER ONE: THE CRUSHER
It hurt like hell when the guy the NYPD had dubbed 'The Crusher' got his arms wrapped around Matt's torso, but he wasn't scared.
His ribs might be broken, but he wasn't scared. Matt yelped in a very un-manly fashion as the bigger man squeezed. He gasped for air, twisting, trying to loosen the hold, but nothing was budging this guy. Matt breath came in short gasps as his chest was compressed. Gotta….need to…
The plates on the armor were cracking. Holy shit, this guy was cracking his chestplate. Matt's world on fire was turning black around the edges. He stomped down hard with a boot, but the Crusher didn't even feel it, or if he did, he made no acknowledgement of it.
Something…I need something…He threw his head back into the Crusher's windpipe and lower jaw. He got stars in his vision and a simple grunt from the Crusher in response. Damn it but this guy's starting to piss me off. At least make me feel like I'm doing something!
In a last-ditch, feeble attempt, Matt lifted both legs and shoved off against car in front of him, pushing them both back into a concrete support pillar in the parking garage. The Crusher's back hit it and in what Matt was sure was just shock that Daredevil even had enough strength to do that, let go of him with a few choice swear words. Are you really complaining that it was too easy?
Matt dropped, sucking wind, scrambling to get out of the way. The parking garage. Matt grimaced, thinking of the millions in property damage he was about to commit. Then, he grinned, as he staggered to his feet.
"Hey!" he yelled, moving quickly even with the cracked ribs as he crisscrossed the parking garage, dodging a thrown-yes, thrown-Dodge Avenger (could've been an Altima, he guessed, they were about the same size), that came right for his head.
He felt the change as Crusher turned. Matt swallowed, listening. Traffic outside, wind blowing through, banking off the pillar he had positioned himself in front of. "Yeah. Over here!"
The Crusher roared at him and took off running. Matt felt the vibrations under his feet, the shift in the light breeze blowing through the lower level, and at the last second, he ducked under the Crusher's arms and twisted his body out the first floor window.
He heard the Crusher's body hit the pillar with the force of a tractor trailer. A moment later, and the whole building started to crack. Matt heard the cracks racing up the interior of the garage and falling cement and rebar as the garage started to collapse.
A few moments later, and it was all over. Matt got to his feet painfully, and cocked an ear, listening.
Heartbeat. Faint, but it was there. He'll be fine. He nodded with a satisfied smile, and then winced at the movement.
