Authors notes: And we're back with The Avengers Avatar saga folks. My apologies for the delay, I've had my hands full with other stories and have recently been on holiday with my family so there wasn't much time for me to do some updates. On a small note, the team will unite as the story goes along this was inspired by the elements of Avengers PS4.
Now without further delay lets begin.

Chapter II:
A leaf in the Wind
A new day arrives in Republic City as the sun shines over the many skyscrapers of this steampunk themed city. The light shines off the Avatar Aang memorial statue on Memorial island.
In the city many people were out and about this fine day. Just then the sound of the city silence was then shattered by a rather energetic sound.
"WAHOOOOOO!" Cried a voice. Then swinging in from the rooftops was Ms Marvel she swung from one of the rooftops using her polymorph powers. She soared through the city letting go of one rooftop then stretching her hand out to catch onto the other.
Ms Marvel swings round a corner then leaps into the air and lands on a rooftop running along the top. Leaping from the roof she extends her left hand then swings close to the street passing by some bystanders.
"Hi bye." Ms Marvel said swinging by. The pedestrians were quite startled when she swung by.
The stretching Avenger then latched onto a passing airship then swung round and landed on the top of it. Ms Marvel looked at the view that was before her. She was captivated by the stunning scenery. She mentally thanked herself for all the times she swung from buildings back home with a certain web head friend of hers.
Since moving into Air Temple island with Korra upon their arrival to Republic City, she decided early this morning to do some quick sight seeing before breakfast. However it wasn't just about sight seeing, she was looking for her fellow Avengers. Since their first meeting with Chief Beifong, she heard word of a nut calling himself the God of Thunder had appeared a couple of days ago. She knew it had to be Thor. Which meant that they must've been sent here too. Yet so far she'd found nothing.
Soon she saw the blimp was passing by close to the harbour before Air Temple Island. She leaped off the blimp and descended with her scarf blowing in the wind. Then with one quick motion extended her left arm and swung to the building. However as she looked out to the air temple there was a problem. She saw the boat traveling there had already gone. However she then got an idea.
Later she latched her hands onto the edge of the roof and walked backwards pulling her arms back. Almost like a human be told she was a little nervous.
"Oh boy oh boy I've always wanted to do this!" She said excited but nervous at the same time.
Then when she stretched back enough she lifted her legs up and was catapulted forwards, screaming as she flew across the sea like a cannonball.
Air Temple island:
Back on the island Oogi, the flying bison belonging to Master Tenzin flew down to the ground towards the main grounds which was a hexagonal shape. In the centre lay a yin and yang symbol. Outside Jinora was reading one of her books whilst Ikki and Meelo were racing on their air scooters.
All was quiet, then suddenly in the air Jinora heard a woman screaming rather loudly. It got closer and closer, Ikki and Meelo heard it too, it was coming from above. They looked up and saw falling from above was Ms Marvel.
She screamed like crazy as she'd forgotten she didn't have a way to stop. Nor did she consider the landing. She saw herself heading for the concrete. She crossed her arms over her face preparing for the crash, to her surprise it never came. She opened her eyes and saw she was hovering in the air thanks to a small gust of air below her. The ones to thank were the Airbending kids.
"Morning Kamala!" Ikki said cheerily. Ms Marvel just smiled as the air gust lowered her to the ground slowly. Then her feet touched the ground.
"Whew thanks guys." Ms Marvel breathed thanks. "I really need to work on the landings."
"Your welcome." Jinora replied.
Just then they heard a growling sound, it wasn't the bison though it was from Ms Marvel's stomach. "Oh boy I'll need a good breakfast after that." She said and was about to leave but she needed to do one thing first. "Uh quick question which ways the dining room again?" She asked.
"Just down the hall, third room on the right you can't miss it." Ikki replied.
"Thanks Ikki." Ms Marvel thanked as she went inside the temple to change out of her costume.
Meanwhile:
"And, in the final round, the Buzzard Wasps won with a decisive knockout!" Korra was in the dining room with Tenzin sitting across the table from her having breakfast. They were surrounded by Air acolytes in orange and yellow clothes. She was reading the newspaper, namely the sports column.
"What do you say we go to the arena tonight, catch a few pro-bending matches?"She asked lowering the newspaper to talk to Tenzin, who wasn't amused by the idea.
"That sport is a mockery of the noble tradition of bending." Tenzin scoffed.
"Come on, Tenzin! I've dreamed about seeing a pro-bending match since I was a kid." Korra pleaded. "and now I'm just a ferry ride away from the arena." Then pointed to said arena from the window view.
Before Tenzin could respond. "Morning everyone." They turned round and saw Kamala now dressed in her water tribe clothes. She was just placing on her scarf as she cam to sit down next to Korra.
"Oh hey Kamala." Korra greeted as she sat down.
"Been out somewhere I see?" Tenzin asked and Kamala wondered what the air bending master was talking about. It was then Korra noticed what he was talking about.
"Uh Kamala." Korra pointed to her face which made Kamala placed her hand on her face an realised she still had her mask on.
"Ah!" She said as she pulled it off her face. "Sorry I sometimes rush when I change force of habit."
"So where'd you go I saw you bed was empty this morning?" Korra asked.
"Yes despite instructions to stay on the island." Tenzin reminded.
"Well I wanted to do a little early morning sight seeing, besides nobody minds as far as they're concerned I'm a special bender helping the Avatar." Kamala said. "That and I wanted to see if I could find my friends."
Since explaining to Tenzin her story of being from an alternate universe, everyone decided to go under the guise that Kamala was a unique bender from the southern water tribe and was found by the White Lotus. Kamala didn't mind she understood the importance of a secret identity. To her it was like she was undercover like Black Widow.
"So did you find them? Your friends?" Korra asked.
Kamala sadly gave a saddened sigh. "No not yet. I mean since Chief Beifong told us about that 'nut calling himself the god of thunder' who arrived in the city a-couple of days ago. I knew it had to be Thor, but trying to find the Avengers is like trying to find a needle in a haystack."
"Well you found them once didn't you? I'm sure you can again." Korra explained remembering how she told the story of finding Dr Banner on what was left of the Helicarrier in Utah
"Not to worry Kamala, if your friends were sent here the same way you were, we should be able to find them." Tenzin agreed. "If you would like I could send a description to Lin so the police can look."
Kamala grimaced at the idea of sending Lin to find the Avengers, given how some of them can be a challenge, namely a certain gamma jolly green giant.
"Ah uh well I don't think sending warm and fuzzy Lin is a good idea considering some of my friends could either be intimidated or threatened by her, if you get what I mean." Kamala then said.
Tenzin realised she had a point about that, based on how Kamala described the Avengers. "Duely noted."
"So what were you guys talking about?" Kamala then asked.
Glad to move to a different subject Korra answered her question. "Well we were just talking about the Pro Bending match in the newspaper." She gestured to said newspaper.
"Whats Pro Bending?" Kamala asked.
"Its a sport, basically there are two teams of three benders one of each element, water, fire and earth." Korra explained. "They basically use their bending to try and push each other back into three different zones. There are three rounds and if one team knocks the other out of the arena its a knockout an instant win."
"Wow that sounds like fun! It's kinda like some of the games we have back home." Kamala said. "Well minus the bending anyway. Whats say we check one out."
Tenzin then interrupted with a rather stern look. "Kamala, Korra is not here to watch that drivel. She's here to finish her Avatar training." He reminded. "So, for the time being, I want you both to remain on the island."
"Is that why you're keeping the White Lotus sentries around, to watch my every move?" Korra then asked a little annoyed.
Kamala then noticed said sentries standing in a rather guarding fashion close by. "Yes. In order to learn airbending I believe you require a calm, quiet environment, free from any distractions." Tenzin explained.
"Shesh overkill much." Kamala muttered to herself.
"Allright, you're the master." Korra finally conceded not liking the decision very much.
Whilst Tenzin was content with her understanding it didn't stop her from looking out at the arena which was a golden domed building. Kamala could see that Korra really wanted to see the sport.
"So…whats on todays Airbending activities list?" She then asked.
Soon Tenzin was leading Korra and Kamala to the first training session of Airbending. Korra was now clad in traditional air bending robes, but the sleeves were folded up to show her arms.
"So, my mother informed me that you've never been able to airbend before." Tenzin said addressing the situation which caused Korra to stop and let out a disappointed sigh.
"Yeah, but I don't know why." Korra explained rather frustrated. "The other elements came so easily to me, but every single time I've tried airbending." She blew a raspberry then placed her hand on her hip annoyed. "nothing."
"That's perfectly all right. You just need to be patient." Tenzin said understanding. "Often the element that's the most difficult for the Avatar to master is the one most opposite to the Avatar's personality." He said rolling down Korra's sleeves properly. "For Aang, it was earthbending."
Kamala though was a little confused. "Uh Tenzin." She said with her hand up in a question asking way. "I don't understand how can an element be an opposite to the Avatars own personality?"
Tenzin knew the young Avenger didn't understand the concept so he explained. "Well allow me to explain Kamala, each of the four elements have different characteristics Air represents freedom like the leaf falling in the fall, whilst Water is the element of change like the currents and the ever-changing seasons. Earth however is substance, hard and strong and fire represents great power."
Kamala began to understand now, and given what she read about the air benders back at the compound she could see what he was talking about. "Oh I see since the Earth is the hard hitters in strength whilst Air is light and free it wouldn't be so easy to master. In Korra's case its cause she's fiery and passionate not a pacifist like the Air Nomads."
"Thats precisely right." Tenzin nodded.
"Well I did my research back at the compound, and my teachers says I don't pay attention in school." Kamala said humbly rubbing her head.
"Yeah. Well, I'm about as opposite an airbender as you can get." Korra said in a deadpanned tone.
Tenzin smiled understanding as he lead the two to the training area. "Lets begin your first lesson."
The trio soon arrived to a set of stair and upon reaching the top Jinora, Ikki and Meelo were there waiting for them. "Korras gonna airbend Korras gonna airbend!" She said excitedly. Whilst Meelo just waved at them.
It was then Korra and Kamala took note of the spinning gates. They were brown and old with the symbol of air bending in the centre. Kamala could see the resemblance they had to the sliding gates she'd seen in books on Japanese history back home.
"What is that contraption?" Korra asked.
"A time-honored tool that teaches the most fundamental aspect of airbending." Tenzin explained as they looked at the gates. "Jinora, would you like to explain this exercise?"
"The goal is to weave your way through the gates and make it to the other side without touching them." Jinora explained gesturing to the gates.
Korra just looked with a crooked eyebrow and a confident smirk on her face. "Sounds easy enough."
Kamala however wasn't sure about that. "Yeah a little too easy, whats the catch?" and she was right.
"Jinora forgot to say that you have to make it through while the gates are spinning." Ikki then pointed out.
With that Tenzin took up a stance then unleashed a breath of air from his hands. The breeze made the gates spin very fast. The Airbending master then held up a leaf and let it glide.
"The key is to be like the leaf, flow with the movement of the gates." Tenzin explained as the leaf flowed and weaved through the gates without difficulty. "Jinora will demonstrate."
Jinora nodded and ran towards the gate and started weaving through them, going in different directions to the gates. She met more gates and moved in a different direction.
"Airbending is all about spiral movements. When you meet resistance, you must be able to switch direction at a moment's notice." Tenzin then explained.
Kamala was amazed at what she was seeing it looked a little like a dance than a teaching move, but she could see the point of the exercise.
"Ah because the wind moves in different directions and when it meets obstacles like boat sails or whatever it moves around them changing direction." She guessed.
Tenzin nodded at her explanation and at that moment as the gate grew slower Jinora emerged from the other side. Then blaming another gust of air from her hands sending the gates spinning in the opposite direction.
Now it was Korra's turn. "Lets do this!" She said.
"You got this Korra." Kamala said encouragingly with her thumbs up.
Without further delay Korra ran right into the gates however her confidence was short lived. When she entered the gates she immediately got hit in the back by one of them, then wend smashing into one gate and another and another.
Tenzin and Kamala just cringed at what was happening. "Oooo, she's gonna feel that in the morning." Kamala said to which Tenzin cringed in agreement.
Korra was being smacked around through the gates like ball in pin ball machine eventually catapulted out of the gates and landed on her butt. She groaned as she got up. She looked angry and charged straight through. However the same thing happened again she was being smacked around by the gates hitting them one by one. Whilst she tried to get through the children were shouting suggestions.
"Don't force your way through!" Called Jinora but Korra just got hit again….
"Dance dance like the wind!" Ikki called. …and again Korra hit another gate.
"Be the leaf." Meelo then said waving his arms to show flowing like the leaf.
Sadly none of this advice helped at all as Korra was smacked by yet another gate then another practically sucker punched her in the face. She spun round all dizzy as the sound of birds chirping could be heard as she fell on her back and grunted. It was almost as if you could see tiny spinning gates spinning round her head in a daze.
Kamala just grimaced at this. "Oooo something tells me this could take a while."
Tenzin only sighed as he shook his head. "I have a feeling you're right."
"Hey any chance I could have a go?" Kamala asked which did surprise Tenzin a little. "I mean just because I'm not an airbender doesn't mean I can't give it a go right?"
The Airbending master was a little unsure but if this young girl did want a try who was he to deny that. Plus it could help motivate Korra a little. With that he blasted another current of air through the gates.
Kamala did a small stretch exercise before she ran forwards into the gates. She managed to slip past the first few gates, and then went in different directions to the others to her this was like one of Black Widow's training sessions in the HARM room. Korra looked surprised Kamala was actually doing well.
However that wasn't to last for, suddenly as Kamala went past another gate she accidentally stretched her hand past a gate and it got caught on it suddenly stretching her arm. She screamed as it span her round and round then into another gate and another. She tried to stretch her arm to get out but that only got tangled with the other gates too.
In the end Kamala was flung out of the gates and her arms were all tangled up in the gates. "Okay maybe not so simple."
Jinora then came over to her and kneeled down to her level. "Well you nearly made it." She said a little encouragingly.
All Kamala could do however was just let out a puff from her mouth to push back a strand of hair that hung over her face.
Later that night:
The night then drew in. It took a while but Tenzin and the air acolytes were able to untangle Kamala from the gates. Soon she was sitting in the courtyard playing a game on her phone as she was leaning on a resting Naga. Due to the lack of internet in this world there wasn't much she could do.
Korra meanwhile was trying to do some air bending on a newspaper. Which had a picture of Lin Beifong on it. The young Avatar made some air bending movements then pushed her hands forwards.
"Airbend!" She cried, but sadly nothing happened. Korra was becoming more and more frustrated. "What is wrong with me? Airbend!" She tried again, but yet not a single puff of air.
Flustered and frustrated she just let out a blast of fire from her fist and burnt the newspaper to ash. Along with the cable line it was on.
"Wow thats harsh, what you have against that newspaper?" Kamala said trying to lighten the mood.
"AARGH!" Korra cried out in frustration. "I just don't get it why can't I master this, no matter what I do I can't produce a single bit of air! Maybe I'm just not cut out to be an airbender."
"Come on Korra don't let this get to you." Kamala said. "I get it you want to master air bending but no-one said it be easy? I mean you should've seen how frustrated I was when I was learning to control my powers after the Terrigen hit me. Once I accidentally stretched my legs out uncontrollably at my friends birthday party." Kamala explained.
"The point is we learn in our own way, and there are things sent to try us but thats whats help us to grow."
"You know your starting to sound like Tenzin right?" Korra said with a flat look.
"Yeah a little but, it'll come to you sometimes a little patience and focus is all you may need." Kamala said. "Besides a hero has to start somewhere."
Korra did give a small smile at her friends statement, however before anything more could be said they suddenly heard some static from a radio.
"Ladies and gentlemen! I'm coming to you live from Republic City's Pro-bending Arena, where tonight the best in the world continue their quest for a spot in the upcoming championship tournament."
They looked over to the source of the sound and it was coming from the small hut where the White Lotus sentries had taken up residence. Said sentries were sat listening to a radio on the balcony of their living quarters.
"Grab your snacks and grab your kids because this next match is gonna be a doozy!" Said the commentator.
Kamala and Korra looked at each other, their knowing smirks meant they had the same idea. Tenzin did say Korra couldn't watch a match, but listening to one was a different story. With that Kamala grabbed Korra by the waist and stretched out her arm to the roof. They landed on the roof and kept their balance as they listened in on the match.
Time passed as the girls and the sentries continued to listen to the match, and it was getting good.
"This Mako's got moxy! He advances, fires two quick shots." The sentries looked with excited faces. "Yomo is hammered back to zone three! Clock is winding down, can Yomo hold on?" Korra and Kamala held onto each other with excitement the young Avenger hadn't been this excited since she'd won a place at the Avengers day Fanfiction contest. Even the sentries got more and more excited at the climax of the match. "He's teetering on the edge of the ring Fire Ferrets line up to strik…"
Suddenly much to everyones surprise the radio had cut out. Korra's face twitched that it had been cut off at the best part. Kamala was just as surprised she didn't like cliff hangers be it in films or comics. The sentries were startled as they looked to see Tenzin standing behind them holding the plug to the radio. It was evident he'd pulled it out.
"Korra, come down here please." Tenzin said sternly knowing she was listening. "You too Kamala."
Both Kamala and Korra poked their heads down from the roof with their hair hanging down. They hopped down from the roof not paying attention to the surprised White Lotus sentries.
"You shut it off at the best part!" Korra exclaimed.
"Yeah I was enjoying that!" Kamala agreed.
Tenzin ignored that statement and addressed his student rather sternly. "I thought I made myself clear. I don't want you listening to this distracting nonsense."
"But it's their radio." Korra protested gesturing to the White Lotus sentries. "And technically, you said I couldn't watch a match."
"Yeah you didn't say anything about listening to one." Kamala pointed out as well. "I'd say thats a loophole."
Tenzin paused for a moment as she did have a point. "You..you know what I meant!" He said however Korra remained unconvinced as did Kamala."Anyway shouldn't y..? Shouldn't you two be in bed by now!?" Tenzin then changed the subject.
"Okay Okay we're going." Kamala said as she pushed Korra out of the room before anything else happened.
The girls returned to the resting quarters of the temple. Kamala was sharing a room with Korra. Tenzin did protest a little but the young Avenger explained to him that this way she could keep an eye on her better. Korra sided with her as well saying she didn't mind having a roommate. Eventually the Airbending Master had t conceded defeat as they had reasonable arguments.
They entered their room and Kamala sat on her bed whilst Korra just slumped onto her bed in frustration. "Gah! this is so frustrating! I mean come on I listen to one Pro bending match and he's all thats mocking bending don't listen to that nonsense!"
Kamala couldn't help but sympathise. "Hey Korra look try and see it from his perspective. He's been taught in the traditional arts of this bending, and when he sees a more modern form of bending as a sport some people can take an offence to it."
"Wow I've never thought about it like that." Korra said.
"But…" Kamala then said. "Sometimes a little modern day forms can be just as relevant as something from the past."
Kamala then pulled out her phone and brought up a photo of a certain Super Solider in his WWII attire which was a blue and white suit with red straps clipped to the blue top with small red and white stars on his shoulders. Whilst he wore red gloves and red laced boots with his shield.
"Take Cap for example." Kamala showed Korra the photo.
"Wow thats a good photo, how'd you get it to show on your device like that?" Korra asked having never seen a high tech phone before.
"Well its taken on the camera here, but sometimes you can save photos from the internet." Kamala explained.
"Uh whats an internet?" Korra asked confused.
"I'll explain later." Kamala said. "Anyway, Captain America was a hero from the second world war in my world and after a deep freeze after defeating Hydra and the Red Skull, he wakes up in a modern day world not like the one he left behind. Sometimes Iron Man can disagree on his point of view being he's a modern day person, but in the end they see both sides and come together to form a common ground."
Korra listened with interest. "The point is traditional old ways can be good but sometimes modern day forms can have just the same impact."
"Wow, sounds like you learned a lot from these guys." Korra said impressed.
"Yeah that and listening to Caps old war videos doesn't hurt either." Kamala admitted.
"I just wish Tenzin could see it that way." Korra said.
"Well thats something you both have in common, you're too stubborn for your own good." Kamala then joked.
"Ha ha very funny." Korra giggled as the two settled into their beds for a good nights sleep.
The Following Morning:
A new day dawns, and a new day of Airbending training. As a Sky Bison flew over a small base rock on the island lay a small hut. This hut was used for meditating purposes. In the hut Tenzin, Jinora, Meelo, Ikki and Korra were sat in a meditating pose. Kamala wasn't with them as she decided to help Pema with some jobs today.
As everyone meditated Korra briefly scratched her behind. All was quiet as she tried to meditate but it wasn't working for her. She therefore looked at the children and saw in their meditation they were leaning forwards a little, so she decided to do the same. However it didn't click.
"I think I'm doing it wrong." She finally admitted.
"There's nothing to do. Let your mind and your spirit be free, for air is the element of freedom." Tenzin explained while meditating. However Korra could only let out a small chuckle at that.
"Is something ... funny?" He asked rather dismayed.
"Yeah, you're telling me to embrace freedom, but you won't even let me listen to the radio. And forget about leaving this island!" Korra criticised. "Yet Kamala is allowed to venture of the island when she pleases."
"Please, Korra." Tenzin then decided to have one of his children lead by example. "Look at Meelo; he's able to meditate peacefully." However what Korra saw wasn't meditating in peace all she saw was druel running down his mouth and a small green bubble from his nose. This wasn't meditation.
"Actually I think he's asleep." Korra pointed out.
"What?" Tenzin said surprised and as he took a closer look, he could see she was right. Meelo was indeed asleep. "Well, at least he has the relaxing part down."
Korra however was all but frustrated. "Whatever. None of this airbending stuff makes any sense to me." She said.
Tenzin could tell she was getting more and more frustrated. But chose to remain patient. "I know you're frustrated, but these teachings will sink in over time. Then one day, they'll just click."
He closed his eyes as he and Korra went back into a meditative position. The Avatar in training took a deep breath and tried to meditate again. But after a second she just came out of it again.
"Yeah, it's not sinking in yet." Korra said in defeat. Much to her teachers surprise she got up and walked away. "I'm gonna go get a glass of lychee juice."
"Korra, the meditation's not over yet!" Tenzin said to her rather sternly but it was no good. Despite his patience it seems like Korra wasn't taking any of this in at all.
"Daddy, can I have some lychee juice too?" Ikki asked rather hopeful.
"No." Was the quick response from her father.
Which did result in a frown from Ikki whilst Meelo just groaned as he fell onto his back still asleep. Jinora had one eye popped open to see what was going on.
Meanwhile:
In the kitchen Kamala was helping Pema with some chores. Since Korra and Tenzin were busy with her training Kamala decided to see if she could offer some help to Pema, who was more than happy to let her help given her two of them were in the kitchen preparing lunch. Kamala passed Pema the ingredients to a salad dish.
"Thanks for the help Kamala I really appreciate it." Pema said.
"Oh no problem Pema its the least I can do." Kamala said. In some way helping her cook was starting to remind her of home. Just then Pema noticed something was missing.
"Oh no, forgot about the lettuces." Pema said. "I left them in the store room. I'll have to go get them."
"Oh no need I'll save you a trip." Kamala said as she stretched her hand out of the kitchen and to the nearby store room. Opening the door and then reached in feeling around until she felt a lettuce. She picked it up then stretched her hand back to her.
"Tada." Kamala said.
"Wow thats very useful, you must be very helpful in the kitchen back where your from." Pema said impressed as she started washing the salad.
"Well not really my dad is the only one who knows about my powers, so I have to hide them." Kamala explained. "Besides my Ami would freak."
"Oh I understand but it's still a big help to me." Pema said understanding. She then looked and saw she didn't have any salad looked and saw they were on the shelf that was pretty high up. "Uh I don't suppose…"
"Way ahead of you." Kamala said as she stretched her right hand up and grabbed the salad tongs on the shelf. She then handed them to Pema.
"Oh your a life saver." Pema said thanking her. However just then Korra entered the room and poured some Lychee juice from the pitcher.
"Hey Korra." Kamala greets but when Korra left she could see she had a look of frustration on her face. Both Kamala and Pema could see she wasn't having a good day.
"Oh boy, I'd better see whats up." Kamala said.
"Go I'll can handle the rest." Pema said to her and with that Kamala left the kitchen to find Korra.
Said Avatar in training was sitting in the courtyard drinking her lychee juice. She was doing everything that Tenzin was telling her but she was no closer to learning how to airbend and becoming a fully realised Avatar.
"I'm guessing meditating didn't go so well huh?" Korra looked and saw Kamala had just arrived.
"Oh no it was great with some patience I'll be an airbender in no time!." Korra said sarcastically. "Of course it didn't!"
Kamala was a little surprised by her friends outburst. She had been on the receiving end of some of Bruce's outbursts before and after turning into the Hulk but this was new.
Korra realised what she had done. "I..Sorry I just, I've tried and tried everything Tenzins been showing me but none of it is sinking in I mean all I get is be patient, no distracting nonsense if I have to hear that one more time I'm gonna lose it!"
"Yeah so I've noticed." Kamala said. She could see her friend was at breaking point, and constant training wasn't helping. She wondered what she could do to cheer her up. Then as she looked over the sea and to a certain building, she had an idea, as she looked over to Korra with a conspiratorial smirk on her face.
"Hmm well you know I was planning to sneak out tonight to patrol the city to try and track down the other Avengers." Kamala said but Korra didn't look interested. "But it can get lonely, so maybe some company would be good, and who knows maybe we'll swing by the Pro Bending arena."
That had gotten Korra's attention, and she instantly guessed the meaning behind her friends words. She lit up with a smirk and a little hopefully.
"Kamala..are you suggesting what I think your suggesting?" She said "But what if we get caught?"
"Come on we'll be there and back before anyone realises we're gone." Kamala said with her own smirk. "Your talking to an expert of sneaking out to use their powers to help people. Plus as Mr. Stark would say, sometimes you gotta run before you can walk."
Korra got up and placed her arm around her friends shoulder with a wide smile. "Have I told you lately I like the way you think?"
"Oh you could say it a bit more." Kamala said humbly and Korra responded by ruffling her hair.
Later that night:
As the night fell the girls executed their plan. Several White Lotus sentries were on watch duty outside Korra and Kamala's room. Korra slid the window open slightly to see the guard outside. She looked to Kamala and the two nodded it was time to execute their plan. The moment the guard moved away. Kamala slowly dropped from her room stretching down slightly and signalled Korra who slide down her arms. The two then made a run for it to the edge of the cliff. Kamala grabbed Korra's hand as they jumped and the young Avatar quickly bent the water below to soften the impact upon the water.
Under the waters surface the two girls then started swimming cleaving through the water like elegant fish. Their destination was the Probending arena just a ferry ride away from Air temple island. The lights shone from the golden building indicating there was an event tonight.
The arena was a rather large building with a domed roof glistening in green. There was a pathway in the front of the building. On the far side Korra and Kamala emerged from the waters. They looked and saw there was a window open, someone carelessly had left it open, this was all they needed.
Kamala stretched out her arms and grabbed onto the ledge. "Hold tight." She whispered and Korra latched onto her shoulders and with one pull Kamala pulled them through the window and landed on the floor.
"Omf! Still gotta work on those landings." Kamala said. They stood up and shook off all the water on them while Korra used her bending to dry them off.
The two then wondered down a hallway trying to find their way to the arena floor. Just then Korra stumbled across a room that perked her curiosity. She looked inside and saw it was a large training room. There were nets and throwing disks all over the place.
"Whoa look at this gym." Kamala said amazed.
They wandered and saw some training equipment including weights, pommel horses and metal disks. Korra and Kamala were all but intrigued by this room. The young Avenger knew Cap would love this place.
"This must be for training." Korra said.
"Hey maybe we should go before someone sees us in here." Kamala suggested.
"Relax Kamala, I doubt anyone is even here." Korra said rather casual but how wrong she was.
"Hey!" Called a voice startling the two girls. They looked and saw there was a rather burly man with light and dark grey training gear with a white towels sling across her neck. He had white hair in a ponytail.
"What're you two doin in my gym?" He demanded.
The girls knew they were busted. "Oh sorry sir I uh.. we we…" Kamala tried to come up with an excuse.
"We were looking for the bathroom and we got lost." Korra then said. They were unaware of someone walking by the gym taking notice of the two girls.
"Ah, the old "I had to pee" excuse!" The trainer said seeing through their ruse. "You know, I'm sick and tired of you kids sneakin' in without payin'! I'm taking you two to security!"
Korra was beginning to panic if they were taken to security this would undoubtedly reach word to Tenzin. Putting her and Kamala into even more trouble.
"No wait!" Korra tried.
"Come on theres no need for this." Kamala tried also but was ready to use her powers for a quick getaway but there was no need.
"There you are." Called a voice and a rather muscular built young man with pale skin black hair and green eyes, wearing a red and orange pro bending uniform. "I've been looking everywhere for you two!" He said as he came between them. "It's all right Toza, they're with me."
"We are?" Kamala wondered only to get elbowed by Korra getting the message. "Oh yeah yeah we are." She realised.
"Yeah we're with him." Korra said.
"So, you see, we're together." The Pro Bender said.
"Well, not together together, more like friends." Korra pointed out rather awkwardly.
"Right, friends." He said realising what he was saying. "No, no, I didn't mean to imply."
"Oh yeah you implied it." Kamala pointed out.
Toza who at this point wasn't interested in this matter, he was willing to overlook this, if this player said they were his guests that was okay by him.
"Ah, I don't care what you are! I got work to do." Toza eventually said as he wiped the brow of his head with his towel. Before throwing it down to the ground.
He was an Earthbender and using his bending he lifted a barbell weight and moved it away. "R..ight this way, ladies." The Pro Bender gestured showing them the way.
"And thank you, sir!" Korra thanked before Kamala put her hand to the side of her face and whispered to the Pro Bender.
"Seriously thanks." She whispered and she and Korra followed him out of the gym.
The Probender then lead the girls into a room and the sound of cheering crowds could be heard. "What do you think, best seats in the house huh?" He asked.
Korra and Kamala looked in complete and utter amazement. For in front of them was a large stadium that made Wembley stadium look like a cereal bowl. There were large bleachers surrounding the arena which was a long hexagonal shape with three curved zones, one side was blue and the other red. The spotlights were focused on the arena.
"Whoa!" The girls gasped.
"Look at the size of this place! It'd rock as a place for a music concert!" Kamala gasped.
"I know This place is even more amazing than I imagined!" Korra agreed looking around in amazement.
Kamala then turned to the Pro Bender who helped them. "Oh by the way thanks for bailing us out back there."
"My pleasure, names Bolin by the way." He introduced.
"I'm Kamala, Kamala Kahn, and this is my friend Korra." Kamala introduced.
"Kamala hm thats a nice name." Bolin said as they talked two figures entered the room both wearing the same uniforms but different coloured belts.
They were lean built men but one was a water bender the other a fire bender. The Fire Bender had black spiked hair with amber coloured eyes, whilst their teammate had long dark hair and tanned skin.
"Pst, Bolin" The Firebender called over to Bolin.
"Yeah?" Bolin said coming over.
"I told you, you have to stop bringing your crazy fangirls in here before the matches." The Fire Bender said as he was putting on his gloves. "Get them out of here."
Bolin just let out a sigh and pouted. "Ugh come on, Mako! Right, look, I kinda promised them they could stay, but man, I got a good feeling, there's somethin' special about these girls. I know it!" Bolin explained as he went over to the girls and pulled them over.
"Come here, I want you to meet my brother, Mako." Bolin introduced them to the firebender named Mako.
"Mako, hey I remember you were on the radio during the match the other night." Kamala remembered.
"Wow, I-I heard you playing on the radio." Korra said rather surprised as she offered a handshake.
"Come on, Bolin, we're up." Mako said ignoring Korra and Kamala's introduction.
"... or I could meet him later." Korra said a little disappointed.
"Wow is he this nice to all the girls he meets?" Kamala asked rather offended.
"Yeah, sorry about that. My brother just gets real ... focused before a match." Bolin apologised as he put his helmet on. "Okay, I gotta go, wish me ... that I'll need it." He said putting his hand in front of his face.
Korra just chuckled excitedly and Kamala just shook her head in amusement. "Knock 'em dead guys!" Kamala called.
"Good luck. Knock'em out!" Korra wished them luck as she struck her fist into the air.
The stadium darkens as the spotlights focus on the stadium then out of the centre of the arena was an announcer dressed in black and grey clothing with black hair and a moustache. He placed the microphone up to his face.
"Introooooducing…." The announcer said as he pointed to the team Mako and Bolin were on. "The Fire Ferrets!"
The Fire Ferrets waved as they approached the arena on the movie platform. Bolin could hear the sounds of screaming fan girls. "Aaaaaah! I love you, Bolin! Aaaaaah!"
In the announcers booth was Shiro Shinobi who stat in the booth with a microphone. "The rookie Ferrets came from out of nowhere, and have made it further than anyone expected this season." The Ferrets take their place in the arena facing the opposite team who wore brown uniforms. Korra and Kamala watched with excitement as the match was about to begin. "But tonight, they face their toughest test yet, folks."
The teams took up a battle stance then as the bell sounded the match began. Both teams started using their respective bending to attack each other.
"And they're off! The two teams waste no time trying to blast each other out of zone one!" Shiro Shinobi commentates.
Bolin bends an earthdisk from the arena floor and kicks it towards his opponent who destroys the earth disk with a fire blast, then fires two fire balls towards him.
"Hasook is the first to feel the heat of the Tigerdillos! He tries to return the favor, but they're too fast for him…"
Hasook dives quick to avoid a fire blast then bends water from the ring below and blocks a fire blast, he tries to retaliate but the earth bender Tigerdillo dodges then bends an earth disk from the ground and kicks it towards his opponent.
""while Mako shows off his trademark "cool under fire" style!" Shiro Shinobi commentated.
Mako however is calm as he dodges his opponents attacks with ease and then fires some fire fists back at the opposing team, ducks under a water bullet then narrowly dodges an attack from an earth disk with his arms raised against his head.
Kamala and Korra watched the fight intently. "Wow that Mako sure keeps a cool head, Nat and Cap would love this guy!"
Back to the arena the Tigerdillos begin to turn up the heat. The water and fire benders move for direct attacks knocking Hasook and Bolin back to zone two. Leaving Mako standing in the zone in front. The two Fire Ferrets quickly recover as Mako stares down his opponents.
"Oooh, the Tigerdillos score with a walloping one-two combo!" Shiro Shinobi cringes.
Korra holds her head with her hands in despair, she was worried they would lose. Kamala practically pulled her hair in despair and anxiousness. She was starting to wish she'd brought pop corn. Instead she started to recorded the match on her phone.
"Can their teammate hold on to their zone one territory?"
Mako tries his hardest to stand his ground flipping to avoid incoming fire fists form his opponent. However when he lands back to the ground he's suddenly blindsided by an earth disk which puts his foot over the line. Blaring an alert as he landed. "Guess not!" Mako looks down at the line in frustration. "Mako's over the line! The Tigerdillos get the green light and advance into Ferret territory!"
Mako rejoins his teammates as the dividing line between the Tigerdillos and Fire Ferrets glowed green. Signalling the opposing team to move forwards.
"Come on ferrets!" Korra cheered encouragingly.
"Yeah show those Tigerdillo chumps who's boss!" Kamala cheered also.
Back in the arena the Tigerdillo's water bender directs a water bending blast towards Mako which is blocked by an earth disk shot by Bolin. Mako quickly takes advantage and retaliates with a fire blast. The Earthbender flips out of the way of the fire blast and kicks an earth disk towards Hasook which hits him in the chest pushing him onto the floor and into zone 3. Hanging over a pool of water.
"Looks like Hasook's in trouble! He's in zone three teetering over the drink!" Shiro Shinobi commentates.
Mako leaps over a water slice attack from the Tigerdillos water bender but it hits Hasook who then receives and earth disk and waterbullet pummelling sending him plummeting into the water below.
"And Hasook takes a dip! He'll be back for round two!…" Hasook emerges from the water and swims to the platform lift.
"Assuming the fabulous bending brothers can hold their ground until the next round."
Said brothers stood their ground together dodging an incoming water bullet and earth disk. Bolin raises an earth disk to block the incoming waterbullet but the impact sends him back to zone three. Mako dodges a fire fist which pushes him back too just as the round bell sounded.
The scoreboard lights up with a blue Japanese symbol representing the score so far. "Round one goes to the Golden Temple Tigerdillos!" The announcer sounds receiving cheers from the surrounding crowd.
"Come on, Hasook! Get your act together!" Mako says rather harshly to his team-mate as they take up their fighting stance ready for round two.
The bell sounds starting round two. The Tigerdillos are instantly on the attack firing earth disks, water bullets and fire fists with the intent on finishing the amateurs before them.
The attack instantly pushes the ferrets to zone two, and the Tigerdillos advance into their territory. "The Fire Ferrets are knocked into zone two and the Tigerdillos advance!"
The Earthbending Tigerdillo leads an attack with an earth bending disk which is blocked by Hasook while Mako and Bolin go on the attack. Bolin launches and earth disk knocking back the Tigerdillo water bender whilst his brother and Hasook launch a combo attack of fire fists and water kicks knocking the tigerdillos to the ground. Bolin attacks with an earth disk followed by attacks from his teammates sending the Tigerdillos back to their zonesThe bell sounds signalling the end of round two.
"The Fire Ferrets cinch the round in the closing seconds! It's one apiece…" Bolin and Hassok celebrate their achievement but Mako maintains his serious look knowing it wasn't over yet.
"…still anyone's match as we go into the third and final round!"
The two teams glare and face off with each other as the bell sounds for the final round. The Tigerdillos attack first with a water bullet towards Hassok who dodges to the right to avoid it. The Waterbender continues his assault and the impact cause Hassok to stumble. Mako blocks a strike from an earth disk with a fire fist.
Hasook suddenly stumbles and crashes into Bolin sending them both to the ground. "Hasook stumbles, and now he tumbles right into his teammate…"
Bolin and Hassok look with dismayed faces as suddenly a Tigerdillo Earthbender takes full advantage of this moment of weakness. "He and Bolin better untangle quick if they don't want to…"
The earth bender fires an earth bending disk which smashes into the two Fire ferrets and sends them flying off the arena and into the water below.
"…oh, too late!" Shiro Shinobi cringes.
"Oh no!" Korra cringes with dismay. While Kamala keeps recording the match but shuts her eyes.
"I can't watch tell me when it's over!" Kamala cringes. "Wait no don't tell me!"
Mako was now alone in the field at the mercy of the relentless Tigerdillos. He narrowly dodges water bullets, earth disks and fire fists by weaving and dodging across the arena.
"It's all up to Mako now! He's bobbing and weaving! He's weaving and bobbing!" Mako is pushed to the edge of Zone three and was on the verge of getting sent to the drink but weirdly however.
"But he's not hitting back!" Shiro Shinobi noticed. "If Mako's knocked out, the Ferrets' fabulous season is over!"
Korra just couldn't bare to watch practically pulling her pony tails in suspense. Kamala was watching with suspense too. But wondered why he wasn't fighting back, but then as she watched him dodge and weave past the onslaught of this attack, she remembered something from her time in the Harm Room with Cap and Black Widow.
Flashback: The Chimera (Helicarrier):
Ms Marvel is in the HARM room doing a simulation with a hologram drone of Abomination. The beast slams his fists into the ground and Ms Marvel jumps to avoid the attack then flips over the monster and stretches her arms round his legs to try and trip him up. But Abomination grabs her arms and swings her into the wall with an almighty slam then swings her round again screaming and is smashed right into the ground.
"Ow." She groaned she looked up with shrunken eyeballs as the brute was standing above her ready to smash her. But...
"End session." Called a voice and the drone stopped and the hologram of Abomination disappeared.
Captain America and Black Widow then entered the holo room training deck. Natasha kneels down to offer a helping hand to Ms Marvel. "So what did we learn kid?" She asked as Ms Marvel took her hand and was pulled up from the ground.
"Not to try and trip up Abomination by his feet or get smashed." Ms Marvel joked.
"Not quite, how I'd put it but yeah." Widow chuckled before turning serious. "Kamala what I meant was Abomination is too strong to attack head on or with simple playground tricks."
"Okay but how the heck do I try and take down someone the size and strength of The Hulk?" Ms Marvel asked.
Captain America then stepped forwards. "By using a power he doesn't. You may not have the size and strength advantage as Abomination, but you can still be smarter than him."
"Wuh?" Ms Marvel asked with a confused expression.
"Simply put kid, you need to use your opponents strength against him, by wearing him down." Cap explained.
"Keep dodging his attacks and he'll waste all his energy, then when he's tired out thats when you go on the attack." Natasha finished.
Ms Marvel began to understand where they were coming from then came to a conclusion. "Ooooh I get it let him waste all his energy then let'em have it!" She said raising her fist in the air.
"Thats it in a nutshell kid." Black Widow chuckled.
Present day:
Back in the present day Kamala and Korra continue to watch in suspense as Mako continues to dodge his opponents attacks.
"He is dancing on the edge of the ring, surviving the three on one barrage! It seems his plan is to let the Tigerdillos punch themselves out!"
Mako times his attack firing a fire fist, the Tigerdillo water bender tries to block his attack with a water ball. However the fire bursts it into steam blasting him back sending him tumbling off the arena and into the pool.
"And his plan is working! Han is in the pool! They've got nothing left in the tank and Mako is on the offensive!…"
This was now the time for Mako to go on the offensive letting loose fire firsts and kicks towards his opponents. Then unleashing a plume of fire towards the two remaining Tigerdillos.
"It's two on one!…"
The opposing team try to fight back but it's all in vain. The fire bender is blasted by a fire fist into the pool below leaving the earthbender to fight alone. The Earthbender fights back with earthdisks which Mako all but blasts into dust with fire fists. The dust from the attacks completely conceals them from view.
Mako launches a fire kick which blasts the earth bender back to zone three on his side of the arena. He's readying an earth disk for a retaliation.
"…Scratch that, it's one on one, and it's an earth and fire slllugfest! There's so much smoke and dust from the firefight, I can't even see where the Fire Ferret is!"
Suddenly leaping from the smoke was Mako who with one fire fists blasts the earth bender off the platform sending him tumbling into the water with an almighty splash!
"It's a knockout! What a wing-dinger of a hat trick, folks!Mako pulls off the upset of the season, winning the match for the Fire Ferrets!" The bell sounds non stop ending the round. The Fire Ferrets were all but victorious. The final score for the team is shown on the score board.
Mako removes his helmet in the ring and receives cheers from the crowds. Korra looks at the victorious player with awe which then turns into a broad smile. She'd never seen anyone bend like that before.
"YAHOOO ALRIGHT WOOOOO!" Kamala cheers which did surprise Korra a little. Soon the girls were joined by Bolin.
"Woohoo! Yes! One more win and we're in the championship tournament!" Bolin cheered as he removed his helmet and clicked his fingers. "So, what'd ya think, Korra? Kamala? Bolin's got some moves, huh?"
Korra practically grabbed his collar in amazement. "What did I think? What did I think? That was amazing!" She said playfully pushing him back just as Kamala caught her.
"You'll have to excuse her its her first Probending tournament, mine too." Kamala said. "But wow you guys were incredible, just when I thought you guys were done for your brother saves the day with that wear them down and let'em have it move!"
"Yeah thats my brother for you, he so focused during the match like he wants us to win." Bolin agreed.
"Thats some dedication." Korra said.
"Well a friend of mine once said we're here because the team believes in you, you guys believe in him so he's encouraged to win." Kamala said remembering the words of a certain super soldier.
"Wow, he sounds like a wise friend." Bolin said.
Just then said firebender and his waterbending teammate arrived back in the locker room. Hasook was getting a lecture from his team captain who was not happy with his performance.
"You did more harm than good out there. You almost cost us the match!" Mako said accusingly.
"We won, didn't we?" Hasook said whilst taking his helmet off annoyed by his team captain getting at him all the time.
"Barely!" Mako replied back as Hassok walked away.
"Get off my case, pal!"He said as he slammed his helmet into the bench then stormed out of the room with a grunt.
"Useless." Mako muttered in annoyance.
"You guys were incredible out there! Especially you, Mr. Hat Trick!" Korra then complimented as Mako walked away to his locker.
"Oh, you're still here?" Mako simply said which turned Korras excited expression into a saddened one.
Kamala decided to put him in his place. "Oh you still an arrogant jerk?"
Mako just turned and briefly glared daggers at the young Avenger whilst Korra looked rather impressed. Kamala wasn't intimidated this wasn't the first time she'd met jerks like this.
"OOOOoo." Bolin cringed. "I'm starting to like you Kamala, no ones ever called Mako out like that before."
"Yeah I've got experience." Kamala said cheerfully.
"Yeah anyway." Korra changed the subject. "I've been immersed in bending my entire life, but I never learned how to move like that! It's like there's a whole new style here!" Korra said excitedly "Think you could show me a few tricks?"
"Ab-so-lutely!" Bolin said enthusiastically.
Mako however wasn't so keen on the idea as he took his gloves off. "Right now? Come on, Bolin."
"Just ignore him." Bolin said with his hand behind his head.
"No problem." Kamala said.
"Yeah, I could show you the basics." Bolin places his hand to his chin wondering. "I'm just not sure how my earthbending would translate to your waterbending, but we'll figure it out."
"Oh that shouldn't be a problem Bo." Kamala said.
"Yeah I'm actually an Earthbender." Korra added rather smugly.
Bolin now had a confused look on his face at the fact someone from the water tribes was actually an earth bender. "I'm sorry, no, no! I didn't mean to assume." Bolin said apologetically. "Cause I, you know, I was just figuring ... with your Water Tribe getup ... that you are ... a Water Tribe ... gal."
Kamala and Korra eyed each other with rather smug looking grins. "Oh no your not wrong, she's a waterbender." Kamala said.
"And a firebender." Korra added smugly.
"Mm. Mm-hmm. I'm very confused right now." Bolin said rather confused.
Kamala just looked in disbelief. "Are you for real?"
His brother on the other hand put two and two together instantly after hearing all that. "You're the Avatar, and I'm an idiot." He said.
"Both are true." Korra said.
Bolin now got the message all to clear indeed. "No ... way. The Avatar!" he whispered to his brother who just turned to face them.
Later in the gym the boys, Korra and Kamala were in the gym. Bolin decided this was the best place to show some tricks to Korra. He and his brother were now out of their Pro Bending uniforms and now sported white vests with black pants and grey boots. Kamala watched from the side with interest fro the benches while Mako leaned on the staircase to the right of the room.
"All right! Let's see what'cha got!" Bolin said.
Korra then moved to bend two earth disks and then punched forwards sending them flying into the net. "That was great! Good power! But in a real match, you'd be a sitting turtle duck." Bolin explained.
He then took up a light footed fighting stance. "Not so upright and flatfooted! Stay light on your toes, right up until the moment when you need to dig in and strike." He threw a few fists before he bent the earthdisks. "Then ... pop, pop!" The two earth disks were sent flying across the room like frisbees then hit the net.
"Wow thats cool, so light on your feet when your ready to strike." Kamala understood.
"Yeah thats right." Bolin said.
Korra was still slightly shocked but decided to try. "Okay, let me try it again."
The young Avatar took light steps with her feet bouncing from side to side then with two fists swinging bent the earth disks to the net which flew in the exact same way. Leaving Bolin very impressed.
"Wow! Nice adjustment! You're a natural at this." Bolin said impressed.
"Well she is the Avatar." Kamala said equally impressed. Korra gladly accepted this encouraging praise from Bolin and Kamala. Mako on the other hand could only look in aloof.
"Not bad." He said.
"What's it take to impress this guy?" Korra said a little annoyed.
"What? I said "not bad'" Mako said simply. But it didn't stop Korra from pouting in annoyance.
"Well I'd take that as a compliment." Kamala said. However something had just poked its head up from the benches and sniffed at her hand. Kamala felt the breath on her hand and she turned to see what looked like a small ferret with orange, brown and white fur.
"Oh hello." Kamala cooed at the small creature. "Where'd you come from little guy?" She offered her hand wanting to stroke him, the little ferret was a little hesitant at first but then gradually let her stroke his head.
It was then Bolin noticed. "Oh thats Pabu he's a fire ferret, you could say our teams named after him."
"Wow hes kinda cute." Korra said as she watched the small fire ferret leap onto Kamala's arm and rubbed his head against her face.
"Aww." Kamala cooed.
"Wow he really likes you Kamala." Bolin observed with a smile.
"You know what, it's getting late." Mako said as he started to walk away "I think I'm gonna turn in. You kids have fun. Nice to meet you, Avatar Korra, you too Kamala."
"Yeah, been a real pleasure." Korra waved back rather sarcastically.
"See ya upstairs, bro." Mako said to his brother as he walked away so casually.
"Upstairs? Wait you guys live here?" Kamala asked.
"Yup. In the attic. It's nothin' fancy, but we have some great views!" Bolin said.
"Wow I can only imagine." Kamala said despite seeing better views from the top of Avengers Tower back in New York.
"So, back to bending. Why don't you throw that combo one more time?" Bolin suggested.
With that Korra took up her bending stance again and performed the same light step earth bending combo. Firing the earthdisks at the net with a direct hit. She had a rather big smile on her face. Kamala was glad her friend was having a good time, seemed like things with Airbending 101 would be easier now.
However come the next morning it wasn't easier. Korra was in her air bending robes and once again facing the spinning gates. She was still struggling with them her hair was a complete mess and she had a dismayed look on her face. Tenzin, his children and Kamala watched from afar.
Korra charged into the gates once again but much like her last few attempts she kept hitting them and was being slammed around like a pin ball. If anything this was getting Korra more and more frustrated. Despite Kamalas support she could see that Tenzins traditional methods weren't helping it was just putting fuel on Korra's tempered fire.
"Patience Korra!" Tenzin instructed. After yet more and more hits from the gates Korra's patience had finally broke she growled rather angrily.
"Oh no…here comes the beast." Was all Kamala could say as she'd seen that look once before, on a certain scientists face before he turned into a hopping mad gamma green monster.
The young Avatar lashed out with blazing fury at the gates throwing firefists and blasting them one by one into ashe's. They were completely burnt and destroyed. Jinora, Meelo, Ikki, Tenzin and Kamala wide eyed expressions at this blazing outburst.
"You, have spare gates right?" Kamala wondered to the still wide eyed shocked Airbending Master.
In the ever glowing blaze Korra let out deep breaths of frustration as she eyed the destroyed remains of the sacred air bending tool.
"That was a two-thousand year old historical treasure!" Tenzin said as he tried not to lose his own patience. Kamala was all but cringing at this point. "What ...What is wrong with you?!" He said as his caper angrily flapped in the wind.
"There's nothing wrong with me! I I've been practicing just like you taught me, but it isn't sinking in, okay?" Korra said venting out her frustrations. "It hasn't clicked like you said it would!"
Tenzin could see her frustration so he calmly tried to help her understand. "Korra, this isn't something you can force. If you would only listen to me …"
"I have been! But you know what I think?" Korra shouted frustrated. "Maybe the problem isn't me! Maybe the reason I haven't learned airbending yet is because you're a terrible teacher!"
She then stormed off leaving Tenzin with an irritated grunt. "I'll talk to her see if I can't smooth things over." Kamala then offered. "Korra!" She called after her leaving Tenzin and his kids alone.
"Yeah! You're a terrible teacher, Daddy!" Meelo said energetically as he jumped in a played with the burnt remains of the spinning gates. Whilst Ikki and Jinora hugged their father in comfort.
The following night:
As the sun set on Air Temple island everyone was sitting down to dinner. Minus Korra. After Kamala had managed to calm her down a bit she suggested they go to another Pro Bending match to burn off some steam. Before that the young Avenger joined the air bending family for dinner. Jinora was reading a book while her siblings sat next to her. Tenzin meanwhile sat with crossed arms.
Pema soon came in with a tray of tea between everyone. "Okay! Everyone here?" She asked but noticed the absence of a certain Avatar. "Wait. Kamala where's Korra?"
"Oh uh she's in her room said she wasn't hungry." Kamala explained.
"Honestly, Pema, I am at my wit's end with that girl! I ... I don't know how to get through to her!" Tenzin then voiced rather frustrated.
Pema kneels down to her husband and gives him a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Dear, the best thing you can do right now is to give Korra some space."
Tenzin wasn't so sure so he looked to the young Avenger. "Surely you must have some ideas on how to deal with this situation?"
Kamala was just taken aback. "You're asking me for advice on handling teenagers?" She said with a knowing look.
"Ah I see your point." Tenzin realised as she too was a teenager. He then looked to his children. "You must promise me that your teenage years won't be like this!" He said practically pleading.
Jinora took one small glance at her book then looked to her dad. "I will make no such promises." She said as she went back to her reading.
"Yeah Tenzin, I don't think thats a promise most kids can keep and this is coming from an expert." Kamala said.
Tenzin just gave a conceding sigh knowing she was right. Which still left him with the same problem, how could he get Korra to see things his way?
The Pro Bending Arena:
Later after dinner, Korra and Kamala snuck off the island again and went to go see the Pro bending match. However when they arrived in the locker room they found Mako and Bolin looking rather dejected and frustrated. The firebender had a frustrated looking scowl on his face.
"Whoa we didn't miss your match already did we?" Kamala said rather surprised.
"Yeah you guys look like you lost already." Korra agreed.
"We might as well have." Said a rather dejected Bolin.
Mako however had no trouble voicing his frustration. "Hasook's a no-good no-show!"
"Wait the guy you played with the other night, he didn't show?" Kamala said surprised.
"No, I knew that slacker was useless from the start." Mako voiced angrily.
Just then the referee appeared in the locker room. "You got two minutes to come out ready to play, or you're disqualified." He said before shutting the door.
"Well, there goes our shot at the tournament ... and the winnings." Mako said bitterly.
Kamala and Korra were rather sad, these two worked so hard to get where they were and now it was in tatters just like that. Korra then eyed one of the other teams in the room.
"Can't you ask one of those guys to fill in?" She asked pointing to said team.
"Nah. The rules say you can only compete on one team." Bolin explained.
While Kamala was wondering what she could do, when she looked at Korra, an idea hit one that would not only help the Fire Ferrets but maybe help her friend too.
"Well… What about Korra." She pointed surprising the boys and even Korra. "I mean she's a top notch water bender I've seen her in action and she's got skill."
Korra began to see the idea. "As always Kamala your genius knows no bounds it's a great idea!"
Bolin wasn't very sure about this and neither did his brother. "But, you're the Avatar." He asked then looked to his brother. "Isn't that cheating?"
"It isn't cheating if I only do waterbending." Korra explained.
Mako wasn't at all convinced. "No way. I'd rather forfeit than look like a fool out there."
"Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence." Korra said rather offended.
"Well from where I'm standing Mr Hattrick you don't have much of a choice, sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith." Kamala then explained.
Before Mako could respond to that the Referee poked his head through the door once again. "Time's up. You in or out?"
"We're in!" Korra instantly responded with excitement.
"We are?" Mako said surprised.
"Yes!" Bolin and Kamala cheered as he took Korra to a locker. Mako was still in protest about this.
"Hey, I didn't agree to this!" He objected.
"You can thank us later." Korra said as she opened a locker to take out a spare just shot glares at Kamala for even suggesting this ludicrous idea before looking back to an over enthusiastic Korra.
"This girl is crazy." He said in dismay.
"Yeah well sometimes crazy works." Kamala then said.
"Looks like the Fire Ferrets have ferreted out a last minute replacement 's see if she's another diamond in the rough like the brothers from the school of hard knocks!" Shiro Shinobi commentated.
Later everyone was assembled in the ring. The Fire Ferrets with Korra in tow still trying to adjust her Pro Bending uniform to fit took up their positions. Korra took up a similar stance, she looked back to Kamala who was standing in the locker area with her thumbs up wishing her luck. Korra smiled as she looked back to the ring.
"Don't do anything too fancy or fact, don't do anything. Just try not to get knocked off the ring." Mako instructed rather harshly.
"You got it, captain." Korra replied as her helmet moved slightly forwards only to tilt it back up again.
"Players! Are you ready?" Called the ref with a blow of his whistle the bell sounded.
Korra made the first move delivering a powerful water blast with her foot which hit the opposing water bender sending him right over the side of ring screaming as he hit the water below. The teams looked with completely dumbfounded eyes whilst Mako face palmed his helmet with embarrassment. Kamala just held her hands to her face grimacing she may not know much about the sport but she could see from the other teams that wasn't supposed to happen.
Oblivious to this Korra just celebrated by hopping around. "Woohoo! Man overboard!" She cheered.
The ref however saw differently blowing his whistle. "Fire Ferret waterbender, penalty! Move back one zone!"
Korra was most taken aback. "What why?" She asked.
Mako walked over to her. "You're only allowed to knock players off the back of the ring! Not over the sides!" He gestured to the ring with his hands.
"Oh. Whoops." Korra said realising her mistake.
"Oh boy we really should've gone over the rules of this game." Kamala grimaced seeing her friend wasn't off to a shining start.
"And we're back in action after that hiccup, but I'm not so sure this replacement player knows what she's doing." Shiro Shinobi commentated.
The Platypus bears water bender rejoins his team as the young Avatar moves back one zone. The bell sounds resuming the game. The Platypus bears go on the attack. Korra throws some water bullets in the opposing teams direction only to receive a strike from an earth disk to the stomach. She quickly recovered and threw another water bending strike.
However when she landed her foot was over the line which glowed red. The refs whistle then blew. "Foul! Over the line! Move back to zone three!" He said pointing.
"GRRAH! I'll show you over the line!" Korra just growled in frustration as she walked away.
Bolin twiddled his fingers in embarrassment whilst Mako just closed his eyes in frustration just as the round bell sounded. Kamala covered her face with her hands letting out a sigh. Her friend was defiantly not off to a flying start.
"The Platypus Bears take round one!" Shiro Shinobi announced as the score was shown on the scoreboard. The Platypus bears then press their attack, focussing their attacks on the rookie Pro Bender.
"The Platypus Bears know a green player when they see one, and they are focusing the brunt of their bending on this poor girl!"
Korra tries to stand her ground against the elements of the other players blocking them with her water bending. Kamala was practically holding her hair in the suspense.
"Come on Korra hang in there!" Kamala exclaimed.
Fire turned to steam earth turned to dust and water was deflected back as Korra continued to block the onslaught. Suddenly the opposing fire bender and earth bender launch their attacks with fire fists and earth disks. Acting on impulse she quickly bends two earth disks to protect herself from the combined attacks. Much to the surprise of the team and the arena audience.
"Wait a minute! Did that waterbender just earthbend?" Shiro Shinobi said in surprise and the crowds gasped as the Platypus bears looked in awe.
The ref's whistle blew in surprise. "Foul! I ... think."
"Oh no!" Kamala cringed from her vantage point.
Korra looked around realising that her secret was out. "Uh heh hehe." she chuckled nervously as her helmet covered her eyes whilst maintaining her embarrassed wide smile.
Mako just shook his head with his eye closed. Kamala was just as worried. "I'm glad Tenzin's not watching this."
Air Temple Island: White Lotus hut:
Back on Air Temple island the White Lotus were at their hut listening to the Pro Bending match on the radio. They were oblivious to what was going on.
"Did I see that right?" Shiro Shinobi's voice sounded on the radio. "Hold on, folks, we're just waiting for the referee's official call, but … I-I think this replacement player could be ... no, there's no way!"
Tenzin then arrived at the hut. "Pardon me, everyone, have you seen Korra this evening? She's not in her room, and neither is Kamala." However the White Lotus were completely oblivious to the Airbending master given they were too focused on the radio.
"You've gotta be kidding me!…" The announcer on the radio exclaimed. "…She's the Avatar, folks! Playing in a pro-bending match!" The White Lotus members were completely frozen in shock while the female guard spat out her drink in shock.
"Can you believe that?" Shiro Shinobi said. Tenzin's eyebrows twitched and his eyes blinked as his face turned red. Korra defied his orders and he suspected Kamala had a part to play in this too. It seemed his patience finally gave way.
"I'll get her myself!" He said angrily as he stormed away to catch the next ferry.
The Pro Bending Arena:
Back at the arena the ref stepped forwards as he had come to a decision regarding this recent revelation. "The Avatar will be permitted to continue so long as she solely bends water!"
Needless to say the Platypus bears were not very happy with that decision groaning in annoyance. Kamala just wiped her brow with relief knowing the Fire Ferret's weren't out of the running players returned to their positions as the bell sounded for round two.
"This girl may be the Avatar, but she's no pro-bender and the Platypus Bears are intent on exploiting that weakness!" Shiro Shinobi commentated.
The Platypus bears strike first directing their attacks on the Avatar. Korra continues to block their attacks with her water bending flipping back to avoid an earth disk and raises up her arms to block a fire fist. She's been forced back all the way to the edge of zone two.
"Come on this is clearly rookie harassment!" Kamala exclaimed to the referee. "OPEN YOUR EYES REF!"
However this didn't do Korra any good as she received blows from earth disks, fire fists. "They're giving her their best, and her best ain't good enough to stop it!.."
Suddenly a water bullet hit Korra and sent her tumbling right across the arena floor and sent plunging into the water below. "A…nd she's in the drink." Shiro Shinobi commentated as she hit the water with a splash.
Kamala gasped and was just about to run down to the platform to help her friend. When suddenly she bumped into someone standing behind her. She looked up to see a very annoyed Airbending Master with a twitching eyebrow.
Kamala just gave a nervous smile knowing if they weren't busted before they were now. "Ah haha, why Tenzin, what a surprise."
Meanwhile Korra was swimming under the water to reach the platform back up to the eventually emerged from the water groaning. However when she looked up, standing above her was a rather angry Tenzin and standing next to him was a rather nervous looking Kamala.
"Oh, hey, Tenzin. I thought you didn't like coming to these matches." Korra said rather nervously.
"Yeah heheh I said the same thing." Kamala said nervously. Then quickly she proceeded to help Korra out of the water.
"Once again, you have both flagrantly disobeyed my orders. You were to stay on the island!" Tenzin said a little angry.
Before Korra could say anything Kamala stepped in. "Tenzin please its not Korra's fault, this was all my idea, I suggested we come here. I suggested she take part in the games. I.. I thought it might help her."
"So I have suspected Kamala and I shall attend to you in due course." Tenzin explained.
Korra however wasn't having her new friend take the fall like looked at Tenzin stepping in front of Kamala. "Hey don't turn this on her! At least she's tried to help me, and it helps not being cooped up on the island." Korra defended. "And it's actually helped."
"Regardless of who is responsible I told you both to stay on the island!" Tenzin said rather harshly before leading to lead them away from this nonsense. "Lets go."
Kamala was a little saddened by the fact that now they were in trouble for disobeying Tenzin. However Korra wasn't having it. "No! I'm kind of in the middle of something." She then said causing the Airbending master to stop dead in his tracks.
"I have tried my very best to get through to you by being gentle and patient," Tenzin said turning around and becoming more angry. "but clearly the only thing you respond to is force! So I am ordering you both to come back to the temple right now!"
"Hey don't yell at her!" Kamala exclaimed. "You know its not her fault you keep her confined like some kind of prisoner like back at the compound!" She suddenly stretched to a rather large size and her voice echoed. "But this is part of experiencing the outside world sometimes distractions like this can help!" She realised she was rather large and Tenzin did look a little intimidated by her size so she calmed down and shrunk down.
"She's right all I do on the island is meditate about how bad I am at airbending!" Korra agreed shooting her frustration at her teacher. "You know, I'm beginning to think there's a reason I haven't been able to learn it! Because, maybe, I don't even need it!"
"Yeah d…" Kamala suddenly realised what she'd just said, "Come again!"
Tenzin was just as taken aback by what she had just said. "What?! That is a ludicrous suggestion! The Avatar needs to learn airbending! It's not optional!" He argued back pointing at her.
"No! This is what I need to learn! Modern styles of fighting!" Korra argued pointing to the arena behind her. Kamala at this point was caught in the middle.
"Being the Avatar isn't all about fighting, Korra! When will you learn that?" Tenzin said sternly slightly leaning towards her.
Korra had just about enough of this argument seeing that her teacher wouldn't see reason. So she turned her back on her teacher and friend and went to the lift to rejoin her team-mates.
"I have a match to go finish." She said.
"The Platypus Bears win round two!" The referee sounded from the arena as the lift ascended. Leaving Kamala and Tenzin.
"For the record I didn't expect her to say that." Kamala said to break the ice.
"I don't see why you encourage her to act like this?" Tenzin questioned.
"You said it yourself you don't know how to get through to her. I just decided to try something new." Kamala explained. "Tenzin I mean no disrespect to the Airbender culture and traditions but, so far it's not working. I agree thats she should learn air bending I mean its part of the Avatar job description, but she needs to learn to do it on her terms." Tenzin listened to what the young Avenger had to say.
"I mean your teaching her like she's an airbender already I get she was in a past life when it was your father, but she's not him." Kamala continued. "I mean I'm sure Aang had to learn the elements his own way too and thats what Korra has to do even if it means beating the heck out of a bunch of guys, it's like I told her before a hero has to start somewhere."
Despite Tenzins stern look he slowly softened as she did raise some good points. So far he was treating her as if she was already an airbender like his kids but so far nothing he tried seemed to click with her. Even remembering his fathers stories of how he was training with Toph to learn Earth Bending, where she had to stop teaching him like an Earth Bender and teach him in a way that suited him. The lesson was a teacher must learn to teach a student on their own terms.
"Look if you don't believe me then stay during the match and see for yourself." Kamala pleaded with puppy eyes.
Tenzin just sighed. "Alright but I don't know what good it'll do." He said as he retired to the bleachers above whilst Kamala returned to the locker rooms.
"Round three!" The announcer sounded as the bell was struck and Korra rejoined her team-mates.
The Platypus bears went on the offensive once again focussing their attacks on the Avatar, while the fire and water benders pushed Mako and Bolin together defending themselves from incoming fire fists and water bullets. They were pushed back to the railings.
"The Platypus Bears come out of the gate and quickly go after the Ferret brothers!" Shiro Shinobi commentated. "They're corralled in the corner, wedged in the edge of zone one, unable to come to the Avatar's rescue! And boy, does she need it!"
While the Platypus bears water bender pushed back Mako and Bolin, the fire and earth benders focussed their attacks on Korra who tried to block their attacks. In the bleachers Tenzin continued to watch. But all he saw was Korra being pushed back by earth disks and water bullets propelling her back to zone two.
Tenzin could only watch in disappointment wondering why Kamala even convinced him to stay in the first place. "Looks like the Avatar's pro-bending debut is going to be cut short!"Shinobi said.
Korra narrowly dodged an earth disk and fire fist only to receive another earth disk to the gut which forces her back. Tenzin facepalms himself. While in the lockers Kamala just watches with suspense.
"Come on Korra." She whispered to herself still having confidence in her.
" She's been pushed back to zone three, and the water is calling her name!"
The Avatar is forced back to the very edge of zone three struggling to maintain her balance. The incoming earth disks didn't help either. She realised that brute force wasn't working just then she tried something else, and what that was no-one could've guessed.
"It's only a matter of time before …" Suddenly Korra moves around dodging each incoming attack. Kamala's eyes widened as she recognised those spiral movements all too well indeed.
"…Hold the phone! Stop the presses! She's still in the game, folks!" The Platypus bears grew more and more irritated as they continued to launch their respective attacks only for Korra to spin and dodge them. "And she's moving like an entirely different player! All of a sudden, the Platypus Bears' strikes are only striking air!"
"She..She's being the leaf flowing with the air." Kamala gasped smiling.
Tenzin was equally dumbfounded from the bleachers above. It seemed the air bending training had finally clicked. "How about that?"
The Platypus bears still tried to attack, but they were beginning to tire out. Their fire fists, water bullets and earth disks all lost momentum and fell to the ground before they could hit the two brothers.
"The Platypus Bears have no juice left, but Mako and Bolin are still fresh and juicy!" Shiro Shinobi commentated.
This was the opening Mako and Bolin had been waiting for. The fire bending brother struck with a fire kick pushing the opposing team back. Bolin followed that with earth disk strikes.
The Platypus bears took every hit completely tired and deprived of energy as one took an earthdisk hit and fell to the ground. Korra meanwhile was still spiralling and spinning avoiding the attacks. Then retaliating with her own water attacks from her zone helping to push their opponents back.
The Fire Ferrets pressed forward with fire kicks from Mako impacting the Platypus bears water bender sending him crashing into the next zone. Earth disk strikes from Bolin striking the opposing earth bender in the gut followed by a water strike from Korra knocking the opposing player over the lines and then finally tumbling into the water below.
Only the fire bender was still standing receiving water strikes from The Avatar knocking him back. Before she delivered the final blow.
"To quote a friend of mine….." Korra said. "EMBIGGEN!" She delivered a finally large water strike to the firebender sending him plummeting into the water below.
The bell rang nonstop. "KNOCKOUT!" Shiro Shinobi exclaimed from the commentator stand.
"YEAH THEY DID IT THEY DID IT THEY DID IT! GO FERRETS! GO FERRETS!" Kamala jumped up and down excitedly, and she wasn't the only one.
"WAHOOO!" Tenzin cheered from the bleachers after seeing that amazing performance. He was greeted by a few wierded out looks from the audience. The air bending master simply straightened up and simply left but with a proud smile. Perhaps Kamala was right all along.
"The Fire Ferrets come from waaay behind and steal the win! What an upset, folks! The rookies, Avatar in tow, have nabbed a place in the championship tournament!" Shiro Shinobi exclaimed excitedly as the win was displayed on the score board. "I can not believe it!"
Korra looked around the stadium with a joyful smile as Bolin listened to the cheer of the crowed. Korra then came up and gave him a high-five as they congratulated each other.
Just then Kamala ran onto the ring and wrapped her arms around the two ferrets. "Yeah way to go guys! You did it!"
"We sure did!" Bolin exclaimed.
Mako walked over to the group with a smile on his face, perhaps he was wrong about Korra after all, and maybe more so for her friend. "Korra ... what can I say? You really came alive in that last round. The way you dodged their attacks ... you are a natural."
"Well she had a great teacher." Kamala said to her.
"Yeah Kamala's right." Korra chuckled. "I can't take all the credit. Someone else taught me those moves." She then looked to Kamala. "And someone else gave me the confidence to take the leap."
Kamala smiled proudly at her friend for saying that. She wasn't the only one. For in the crowds someone else was watching the match it was a man dressed in a brown jacket and grey and black boots and pants with dark purple sunglasses who had been watching the match the entire time. He heard what happened between the young Polymorph and the Airbending master.
"Theres hope for you yet kid." Clint said proudly.
Air Temple Island:
Later that night as the moon shone from behind the air temple. The Air acolytes were hard at work. They were replacing the spinning gates that Korra had destroyed with new ones. Tenzin supervised everything, just then Kamala and Korra had arrived the latter was rather hesitant at what she was about to say.
"Tenzin." Kamala said getting his attention. "I think Korra wants to tell you something."
She was hesitant but then spoke. "I'm really sorry ... about everything I said. I was really frustrated with myself, and I took it out on you."
"And I'm sorry too I..I just wanted to help Korra cause I thought well with my own experiences and all." Kamala tried.
However Tenzin all but understood. "I think I owe you an apology too. To the both of you. I was trying to teach you about patience, but I lost mine." He looked to Kamala. "And you were right, I was trying to teach her like she was already an airbender and about trying another way to get through to her."
"No hard feelings?" Korra said hopefully.
"Of course not." Tenzin said. "By the way, you were really good out there tonight. You moved just like an airbender!" He complimented.
Korra was rather taken aback, after all her teacher said about Pro bending being distracting nonsense he stayed to watch? "Wait…you stayed and watched?" Korra said surprised.
"I did. With a little convincing of course." Tenzin replied getting to Kamala who smiled. "Pro-bending turned out to be the perfect teaching tool for you."
"So I suppose theres something to be said of that distracting nonsense after all." Kamala smirked.
"Indeed." Tenzin chuckled. "While I may know of teaching the ways of air bending, it is clear Kamala that you know much of modern styles and trying a new way."
"Guess that makes me her city life 101 teacher." Kamala joked.
"Sounds good to me." Korra said as she and her teacher gave an understanding smile. "I'll see you tomorrow for airbending practice, bright and early!" she started to walk away to bed. "And, by the way, I kinda permanently joined the Fire Ferrets and we're playing in the tournament in a couple of weeks!"
Tenzin had a look of surprise on his face as he let out an exhausted sigh. Kamala just innocently shrugged. "Well look on the bright side, it means double the training double the chances she'll airbend?" She said innocently.
Tenzin did chuckle at the young polymorphs optimism. "Perhaps, after all. A hero has to start somewhere."
Kamala gave a smile at that as she bid her good night to the air bending master to join Korra in her room. Tenzin could see now why his mother thought this girl was special, in a way he could see she was right, and how she could very well prove to be the Avatars companion through her training. He realised that perhaps the two were more alike than they realised.
As the night drew on over the Pro Bending arena in one of the towers sitting on the window ledge was Mako, now in a casual attire of a long dark grey shirt with red linings and white cuffs, black fingerless gloves, black pants, grey boots and had a red scarf round his neck.
He was looking out onto the bay before him and onto Air temple island. His thoughts were on the Avatar who had help his team achieve a great victory, perhaps there was more to her than meets the eye.
At the same time on the island Korra looked out onto the city from her own room out the window. She looked with a very pleased smile on her face. She'd attended and played her favourite sport thanks to the encouragement of Kamala, and she had to admit some admiration for Mako. But was it more than that?
Kamala however wasn't in the room with her. In actual fact she was sitting on the roof of the hut where she and Korra were staying. She looked out on the city, and in her hands was a small card. It was a clear card with a certain 'A' symbol printed on it with her ID photo on it. It was her Avengers ID card. She wasn't sure if the communication function would work in this world, but it was her best shot if she couldn't find the Avengers she hoped they could find her.
With one deep breath she pressed on the Avengers symbol which lit up activating.
"Avengers….I, I don't know if you can hear this" Kamala started. "Or if you ended up in this world too, but I'm okay and well I'm trying to find my way in this world, and to find you. I..recently made a new friend she's got a lot of potential, I think you guys would like her." She finished her chat then deactivated the com link. She looked at the moon not sure if her friends had heard it, deep down in her heart she hoped they did.
Elsewhere:
Somewhere in the city within a condemned apartment, a spark of light was illuminated form the boarded up windows. Inside someone was hard at work on something. On a nearby table lay a certain gold and red helmet, then out of nowhere it was beeping and its eyes glowed. It seemed like it received a message.
Authors notes: And thats it for that chapter folks, well Korra's airbending training has begun, sure she was rough at first but thanks to the support of Kamala she's found a new angle, and perhaps Tenzin will see that traditional methods may be good but its how the student learns that is important. Also because of this Korra now has a place on the Fire Ferrets with Mako and Bolin.
Now I should explain in this chapter I wanted to have Kamala show a sort of assiting role in trying to find a way to help Korra with her air bending training, since she could relate to her situation both , games and comics. Now I hope you've all been paying close attention to the story and who's been referenced in it.
Now onto the next chapter where the reasons I chose the Gameverse Avengers influence for this story will come clear, and who knows maybe some unexpected help may yet emerge.
Until then AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!
