The kingslayer moved from the wall where he had been leaning in the shadows watching the youngster that had come to cause so much dismay and heartache for his sister, the queen. He knew that it was not the boys fault that his father was the king and not Lord Stark as he had thought all his life but that mattered not much to Jaime, his sisters happiness and the keeping of power that his family commanded, came first before anything else.

He had been curious as he had watched the interaction between Jon and his nephew Tommen, and the other boy who was now Jon's cousin rather than half brother, Bran. Tommen's two guards were missing and it was a concern to him, as the boy should not have been left unguarded at all, although there were the Stark guards here, that was not good enough and he was sure that he would be having words with the two, who should have been guarding the young prince later, when he had dealt with what was going on in front of him now.

As he approached the three boys he noticed that Jon, had positioned himself slightly in front of the two younger boys, when he had noticed his approach, as if to protect them from him of all people. His action made him slightly angry at the older boys assumption that he meant harm to the younger boys especially his own nephew, when the only person he would like to see harmed is Jon himself, but at the same time a feeling of pride that that the boy would protect those younger and weaker than him.

A thought crossed Jaime's mind that Jon would have made a good kings guard, if not for he fact that he was now, to all intents and purpose, the king's heir and heir to the iron throne.

"Uncle Jaime, what are you doing here?"

Young Tommen asked his uncle who he had been surprised to see approaching them. He had not seen his uncle when he and Bran had approached Jon, and he was a little worried as he knew he would be in trouble for ditching his two guards. He knew that they were there for his protection but sometimes he just wished that they were not. It was wearisome all the time being followed by two grown men, whose job it was to protect him, with their very lives if necessary.

"Where are your guards Tommen?"

Jaime asked his young nephew, firm censorship could be heard in the kingslayers voice towards his nephew, which made the young boy cringe. He stepped back a little, putting more of Jon in front of him and between him and his uncle, who he could see was not at all pleased with him.

"I asked you a question Tommen, and it does you no good behaving like a coward and hiding behind another. Now answer me when I ask you a question, Where are your guards?"

Young Tommen tried to answer his uncle but he stumbled over his words, stammering as he tried to get the words out.

"T..t..they're somewhere." he stammered.

Jaime was not pleased with Tommen's reply and moved forward and tried to reach around Jon to pull his nephew closer but found his way blocked, as his arm was forcefully gripped by Jon, and himself being pushed backwards. He unsheathed his sword at the unwanted interaction from Jon.

'Who did the young usurper in front of him thinks he was, standing between himself and a member of his family?' thought Jaime.

All rational thought and reason disappeared from Jaime's mind as he took a battle stance, all he saw was someone standing between him and his nephew, who was also a prince of the realm and he went into battle mode, determined to get to his nephew and to teach the young upstart before him a lesson.

Jon's eyes widened as he saw the kingslayers reaction at his interference, he stepped back pushing both Bran and Tommen further away from him and the situation that was about to erupt between himself and the man standing with his sword unsheathed and raised, in a battle stance before him.

He had not thought when he had grabbed Jaime's arm, he should have he realised now, as he reached for his own sword but the first thought that had come to his mind was to protect Bran and Tommen both, when the kingslayer had reached round him to grab the young prince. It was just sheer instinct for him to protect those younger than himself and especially when those he was protecting were also family, as Bran and Tommen were.

As the two of them stared at each other, waiting for the others to make the first move, the situation was being witnessed by many the people of the castle around them, and word was spreading throughout them to others, who were vacating the area. Some to tell others and about what was happening, others to get help, and amongst those leaving the immediate vicinity was young Bran, who feared for Jon's life and safety and so who ran for his Father.

As he entered the building closest to him which he knew would take him to his fathers room where he did all his work, to keep the castle running and the people under his care in food and currency, he heard the clash of metal as the kingslayers sword and Jon's made contact with one another.

XxX

"FATHER!"

The sound of Bran's agitated and somewhat frightened voice carried through the hallways of the building towards his fathers office.

"FATHER, COME QUICK!"

Ned had looked up at the first sound of his son's Bran's voice as he heard it being shouted to get his attention. He was with the king discussing why he had come here and what he would be expected to do, when he left Winterfell to return with the king to the south and Kings Landing.

He moved swiftly from where he had been sitting, and as he opened the great door, he was almost bowled over by his son.

"Bran, what is the meaning of this?" he asked his son, as he grasped his son by the arms and stood him in front of him.

"It's Jon," Bran gasped, "And the Kingslayer,"

"What of them?" Ned asked, concern clear in his voice, and with a slight panic in his voice, at what Bran had just said.

"They are fighting in the courtyard, Tommen and I went to see Jon, and we lost Tommen's guards in the process and the kingslayer got angry about it and went to grab the prince and Jon intervened."

"Shit!"

Ned muttered, he looked back at he king who had risen at young Bran's words.

Without another word both men moved swiftly out of the room, Ned had his hand clasped around his son's arm, almost dragging him along as he and the king hurried towards the area where they could hear the sound of swords clashing, ringing out loudly and the sound of a great many people who had gathered to watch what was going on.

As they entered the area where the fight was taking place, they could only just see through the throng of people already there, young Jon and Jaime fighting, although the King slayer was a more seasoned fighter it looked as though young Jon was giving him more than a run for his money.

As people around them became aware of who they were they immediately lowered their heads in respect to both Ned and the king, Ned more so even though the king, technically was of a higher rank, but Ned was their lord and master and they his banner men, some of them, and they felt they owed their allegiance more to him then the king.

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?" shouted the king.

As the king bellowed out his words, it caused Jon to lose his concentration for a mere second, and he stumbled forward just as the kingslayers sword came flying down towards his sword, only now it was not Jon's sword that was in the path of the downward swing of the kingslayers blade, but Jon's neck.

A/N: What will happen now? Who will be the winner, Jon or Jaime? How will the king react to this?
