The ladies of Winterfell sat in a circle sewing, some were making new clothes either for themselves or others, and others still were doing tapestries. The mood was sombre, the events of the previous day, of the sword fight between Jon and the kingslayer was on all their minds, in fact on the minds of all in the castle. Many were still feeling a degree of shock of the events of the previous day, not least of all those who had witnessed the event. There had been many who had not slept well the night before and some not at all.

Following the sword fight, the king had had kingslayer arrested and the man at present was in the Winterfell dungeons, alongside him were the two guards who should have been guarding young Tommen. People were divided over what the punishment should be, not for the two other kings guard but definitely for the kingslayer himself. There were those who felt he deserved nothing but death itself for what he had done but there were others who felt that perhaps he should be sent to the wall, to spend the rest of his life there.

That night the queen screaming at the king over the treatment of her brother could be heard by everyone within the castle walls, not just by those who were in the same part of the castle as where the royal couple had been given rooms but also on the side of the great castle.

Benjin Stark had chuckled when he had told those who were sat at the same table as he in the great hall, that night during the evening meal that they could probably hear her at the wall, although there was a possibility that they would mistake her screams for that of a white walker or something else equally as eerie. While some had agreed with his view that the queens screams could be heard at the wall, they were that loud, they all, well except for the Northerners wondered, what a white walker was.

In the end the king had stormed out of the rooms he shared with his wife, telling the kings guard who was standing outside in the hallway, protecting the door that the queen was not to leave the room, and that no one was allowed to see her either. He had spent the rest of the evening elsewhere, not that the queen cared, for all she cared, he could drown himself in wine and die between the legs of whatever whore he had found for the night.

Sansa laid down the needlepoint she was working on and glanced out of the window, her mother across from her glancing up, concerned at the look on her daughters face.

"What is it Sansa, what is wrong?" she asked her eldest daughter.

Sansa sighed as she turned her head from the window and towards her mother's concerned face.

"I am just wondering what is going to happen later today when the king decides the fate of the king slayer?"

Lady Stark sighed as she placed her own needlepoint on to her lap, she had been disturbed by yesterdays actions as much as anyone, and she had spent the night consoling her husband Ned. He had been as shook up as everyone else but of course he did not show that he was, as he did not want to appear weak in front of his people and especially the king.

"Whatever is decided by the king will be whatever he feels is whatever the kingslayer deserves for his actions yesterday."

"Yes but," Sansa faltered and glanced down.

"What were you going to say Sansa?" her mother asked patiently.

"I was told that Jon grabbed his arm and that he, that is Jaime Lannister was merely protecting prince Tommen, as is his duty because he had thought that Jon had meant harm to Tommen."

"Sansa," her mother started to say.

The ladies sat in the sewing circle looked up, towards the door as they heard it opening. Lord Stark stood in the doorway.

"My lady," he said, "It is time for the trial."

Lady Stark placed her needlepoint down as did all the other ladies, she stood and walked towards her husband and lord, the others trailing her and waited a few steps behind her as she took her husband's hand. They spoke quietly for a moment or two, the others waiting patiently.

"What do you think will be the outcome of the trial Ned?" Lady Stark asked her husband.

Ned shook his head, he was unsure of the outcome of today's trial, is he had his way, the kingslayers head would have been removed from his shoulders already. However revenge was not the name of the day and the only way for the realm to survive was if they all abided by the laws of the land.

"I am not sure, the king is angry and that is understandable but there is the matter of the Lannister family and the power they exert over the kingdom and the throne. He unfortunately needs their support if he is to keep the throne."

Having said his thoughts, he then led his wife and lady and the other ladies to the great hall where the trial was about to begin.

XxX

The great hall was filling up with people eager to see justice done, although there were some people who were equally eager to see Jaime Lannister, kingslayer and the queens brother released. Not least of all those members of his family and loyal to the Lannister family but the man himself.

He stood in the centre of the room, his sword on the table in front of where the king was sitting glaring at him, his sister the queen was no where in sight, but he was not surprised by that. He had been told by the guard who had released him from the cell where he had been held overnight that the queen was locked in the rooms that she had been given all night, by orders if the king.

The sounds of those around him talking seemed to be never ending and he wished that they would just be quiet or disappear, he saw the lord of Winterfell enter the hall, leading his wife and the other ladies to the other side of the great room before he left them and went to join the king at the table where he sat.

The king stood looking grimly at the man before him as Stark took his place beside him.

"Before we start these proceedings is there anyone present who wish to speak for the condemned."

Jaime glanced around the room at the people surrounding him, none of them looked too friendly towards him and all seemed to be keeping quiet now that the king had spoken.

"It looks like there is none here who are willing to speak for me, my King!"

He had hoped that his brother Tyrion, would have spoken for him but he had seen when he had been brought into the great hall that his brother was also missing also, the guard standing at his side had sniggered and had told him that his brother had also been locked in the chambers he had been assigned.

"Well then let us begin, " the king began to say but movement at the back of the hall stopped him from continuing.

The crowd shifted and parted as someone came forward and stood before the king and lord Stark.

"I will speak for him," the person said as they glanced at the man who stood condemned before them all, "after all, it was almost my head he removed from my shoulders."

A/N: So what will Jon say to the king and all those present, will his words save the kingslayer or will they condemn him? What will be the outcome of the trial?
