A/N: This chapter has not been easy to write, I have erased the completed chapter about a dozen times as I have not been happy with it for whatever reason or other. This final attempt of this chapter hopefully will work and it will be uploaded. I know that some of you will definitely not like what I have finally decided on but ce le vie, that is the way of life, we can't all like the same things. Not only that but this chapter has seriously pissed me off so if you don't like it, tough because I am not deleting it and starting it again.
So lets get started shall we!
The king stood brooding, staring out of the window of the Ned's solar as he continued to ruminate over the punishment he was about to hand out, it had been hard trying to come up with a final solution to the near disaster that had occurred. He personally would like to see the head of that bastard Lannister removed clean from his shoulders and he had been all prepared to do just that but clearer more logical heads had prevailed and the kingslayer would not be losing his head, just yet!
'Still,' he thought, 'the punishment being meted out to the kingslayer was not going to be any easier for any to bear, least of all the kingslayer but he would still have his life...for now.'
The sound of the door opening behind him caused him to turn from the window and he saw Ned and his son entering. The king smiled to himself when he saw Jon, the young man was so much like his sweet Lyanna, it was like looking in a mirror and seeing her once more.
'At times the fates could be kind.' He thought especially considering that although he was considered handsome by most within the kingdom, he was not vain enough to think he was a beautiful handsome like his son but rather more of a rugged handsome. No his son, had more of his sweet Lyanna in his facial features rather than his, her high cheek bones and her colouring and thankfully her intelligence and compassion too!
"Sire, it is time," Ned told him.

Tyrion paced about the chamber he had been given when he had first arrived at Winterfell, it was not as spacious as the one he had in Kings Landing but it was suitable, a little rough around the edges but what could be expected from some northern holding. He thought back to the conversation that he had had with Jon, he had found him to be a surprisingly intelligent young man for one raised in the North and a part of him hoped that he would live ling enough to take the throne although he knew that was a possibility that would not happen, but stranger things had happened he mused to himself.
The groaning of the door and the quick shuffling of footsteps alerted him that he was not alone.

The great hall again was filled with people as they came together to hear of the sentence that was going to e carried out against the Kingslayer, none wanted to miss seeing the head of this traitor being parted from his shoulders.
Upon entering the king entered with Ned and Jon and took his place at the table, Ned sitting on one side of him as Jon sat on the other. The queen they noted was missing, as was her children and her other brother the dwarf Tyrion. People wondered where she might be and were surprised that she was missing the sentencing of her brother but others felt that perhaps even though she seemed a cruel woman that she might have some feelings within her cold soul especially for her brother, her twin, who she was about to lose.
People chatted as they waited for the sentencing to begin, smoke from the fire filled the room and the smell of unwashed bodies filtered through the room. Even though it was summer and warmer, the people of the North dd not wash as often as their southern counterparts which surprised some of those who had travelled with the royal entourage especially as they have some of them made use of the hot springs within Winterfell. They had thought, perhaps a little foolishly, on their parts that those within Winterfell would make regular use of the same pools.
The sound of chains clanking signalled the arrival of the condemned, more than one person was being sentenced today not just the kingslayer but also the two kingsguard that should have been guarding Prince Tommen and also the two Winterfell men-at-arms who had been assigned to watch Jon's back by Lord Stark.
Robert had not been happy that two of Ned's men were guarding his son but he knew that Ned would not allow any harm to come to Jon and had assured him that Jon would be safe, there was none in the keep who would do him harm, all of his people were loyal which could not be said for those of the kings guards. As loath as the king was to admit it, he knew that there was those within his own entourage that were more loyal to Tywin Lannister, his father-in-law, than to him, their king.
A bedraggled line of men, of prisoners stopped in front of the table, the men forced to their knees before those sat there. The king looked sternly and without mercy at the prisoners in front of him, his eyes hard and unfeeling as he looked along the line before him, the only emotion he showed was a tightening of his jaw as his eyes fell upon Jaime.
He took a deep breath and nodded to the man at arms at the end of the line where the two men-at-arms were and waited as they were pulled roughly to their feet, technically Ned as the Lord of Winterfell should have sentenced the men but he had deferred to Robert, to the king, in this matter.
Robert glared at the two men before him, his fury at their ineptitude returning as he thought of how they had been less than helpful in guarding his first born. The two men stood before him, their shoulders hunched and their eyes on the floor, unable in their shame to look at the king nor anyone else in the room come to that.
"You two miscreants were assigned to protect the Lord of Winterfell's nephew," he told them, growling the words at the two men before him. "Normally Lord Stark, as Warden of the North would be sentencing you but as Jon is not just his nephew but also my son, I have taken the matter out of his hands and will be sentencing you. I personally would remove your heads from your shoulders but I have been advised that such a punishment would not be suitable so instead you will be whipped."
The two men were pushed to their knees and the two kingsguard who lost Prince Tommen were then pulled to their feet next, both men unlike the two before them, faced the king, their eyes on a point somewhere behind the hings head.
"The two of you were assigned to protect Prince Tommen and you both failed in your duty, you lost my son, put him at risk and as such are now removed from my service and from the kingsguard."
Both men were pushed back to their knees, relief could be seen in their eyes that they were not being whipped like the two other men.
Last of all, Jamie Lannister, the kingslayer, brother to the queen, was pulled to his feet. He glared at the king and looked around at the people in the room, his eyes filled with nothing but scorn and hatred for them all. He spat on the ground in front of him, he knew that he would not be leaving the North alive but that did not mean he would cower before the people before him, he had his Lannister pride if nothing else left and no Lannister would allow others to see them as weak.
The king glared back at Jaime, the hatred for the man before him showing in his facial features. He tried to control his temper and for a moment felt he would lose it but he felt his sons hand on his arm and glanced at his side where Jon sat, his eyes upon him.
Taking a deep breath and nodding to his son he rose from the table and addressed the disgraced man in front of him.
"Jaime Lannister, you dared to attack my son, my heir and as such your life is now forfeit and though I had thought to condemn you to death, however smarter heads have prevailed and have advised me that dispatching your miserable head from your shoulders would not be in favour of the realm, so instead I remove you from the kingsguard and my service and sentence you to the wall for the rest of your miserable life for however long that may be!"
A/N: So there you have it, this chapter finally written and I can guess that many of you will not be happy with the outcome of it but perhaps maybe a few of you will.
