Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V re:Scaled
Chapter 2
One Shot, One Kill
The light of the fireworks and explosives in the skies above Maiami City signified the start of the next day of the Maiami Championship. The spectators were starting to get comfortable in their seats as the images for the next two contestants appeared on the display. One was the stoic image of a boy with dark purple hair, dressed in torn clothing, with a generally rough appearance. The other was of a new arrival, face concealed by a bright red scarf and a pair of jet-black, military-esque googles.
Yuzu recognized the latter immediately, but the design of the goggles was different from the ones they had worn during their first encounter. These had a one-piece lens, with silver bolts on the side adjusters, the area in question being more pronounced.
The crowd, meanwhile, was slightly more confused. Wasn't this match supposed to have been between Isao Kachidoki and Yuya Sakaki? Who was the new guy? It was at this point that Nico Smiley began to speak, hoping to clarify the situation.
"Ahem. May I have your attention, everyone? As you are likely aware, Yuya Sakaki, creator of Pendulum Summoning was meant to duel today, however, by order of Reiji Akaba, his spot is to be filled today by the challenger you see behind me. Making his debut in the Maiami Championship, I present to you... Yuto Takada!"
In that moment, the Xyz duelist in question quietly stepped out onto the field, face still concealed. The look in his opponent's eyes, however, told that he was less than pleased with his arrival. Yuto didn't need to speak with Kachidoki to understand that. One look at him was enough to tell the teen that he was a silent individual, much like himself. That was fine, though. Their cards would do the talking. Yuto raised his arm in front of him, blade igniting. Kachidoki mirrored the action, as the Action Field came into being around them.
"I'll take the first turn, if you don't mind," Yuto said, expression hidden by his goggles.
"Do as you please," Kachidoki replied, still as stone-faced as ever.
Duel Start
Turn 1: Yuto
Yuto LP/Hand: 4000/5
Kachidoki LP/Hand: 4000/5
"I set five cards face-down. Turn end. It's your move," he stated. He heard the audience burst into laughter, admonishing him for failing to summon a monster. He didn't mind, though. He'd heard it all before from Shingo, anyway. Kachidoki, on the other hand, seemed to be studying him. Trying to determine why he would set every card in his hand, and nothing else. He shook his head. Yuto could tell that Kachidoki likely thought that it was a bluff tactic meant to dissuade him from attacking. He wasn't wrong. Quite the contrary, Yuto wanted him to attack. That was up to him now, though.
Turn 2: Kachidoki
Yuto LP/Hand: 4000/0
Kachidoki LP/Hand: 4000/5
"If that's your best, I'm disappointed. What did Reiji see in you, I wonder? At least this won't take long. I have everything I need for victory in my hand already. I activate Polymerization, to fuse Hayate the Earth Star and Tenma the Sky Star in my hand! O stars racing through the heavens, soaring above the earth, now become one, and shine as the star of the eternal conqueror! Fusion Summon! Come! Idaten, the Conqueror Star! Then I equip Idaten with Magic Star Sword!"
Idaten, the Conqueror Star
1 "Sky" monster + "Earth" monster
Level 10
LIGHT
ATK: 3000
DEF: 2200
[ Warrior / Fusion / Effect ]
When this card battles an opponent's monster with a Level lower than or equal to this card's, during damage calculation (in either player's turn): You can make that monster's ATK become 0 during that damage calculation only.
Magic Star Sword
Equip Spell
If a Spell Card(s) is added to your hand: You can send 1 of those Spell Cards to the Graveyard, and if you do, the equipped monster gains 100 ATK.
Yuto watched as Kachidoki immediately ran off to start gathering Action Cards to increase Idaten's ATK with. 3100, 3200, 3300... Once again, he could hear the audience jeering him, screaming at him to do something to prevent Idaten from powering up. He didn't need to worry. Like his foe had said earlier, he already had everything he needed to win. As Idaten's ATK reached 5000, Kachidoki decided that he had powered it up to the point that he was ready to go for the kill.
"Idaten attacks your Life Points directly! This is the end for you!" He cried as Idaten charged toward the black-clothed duelist. Now was the time. Unflinching, he threw his arm out, his cloak blowing in the wind, as two of his face-down cards revealed themselves.
"I activate two Traps," he stated calmly. "Two copies of The Phantom Knights of Lost Vambrace! This card Special Summons itself as a Normal Monster. Furthermore, a monster my opponent controls loses 600 ATK, and Phantom Knights monsters I control can't be destroyed by battle this turn," he explained as the apparitions appeared on the field.
The Phantom Knights of Lost Vambrace
Trap
Target 1 monster your opponent controls; it loses 600 ATK, then Special Summon this card in Attack Position as a Normal Monster (Warrior-Type/DARK/Level 2/ATK 600/DEF 0), and if you do, "The Phantom Knights" monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle this turn. (This card is NOT treated as a Trap Card.)
Idaten ATK: 5000 – 600 – 600 = 3800
"In that case, I attack one of your Trap Monsters with Idaten! Idaten's effect activates! A monster it battles with a lower Level has its ATK reduced to 0! Pressure of Heaven and Earth!" Idaten brought is sword down onto the spectral monster, creating a shockwave that caused the Action Field to shake. As he had until this point, Yuto remained perfectly still, not even reacting to the attack.
Yuto LP: 4000 – 3800 = 200
"That's all for this turn. On the next one, I win. There's not much you can do with two Level 2 monsters," he remarked confidently.
"Actually, that's plenty," Yuto retorted. "But just to be sure, during the End Phase, I activate two copies of The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine. This card Special Summons itself as a Level 4 monster with 0 ATK and 800 DEF."
The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine
Special Summon this card in Defense Position as a Normal Monster (Warrior-Type/DARK/Level 4/ATK 0/DEF 800). (This card is NOT treated as a Trap Card.) If you have no Trap Cards in your Graveyard, you can activate this card the turn it was Set.
Turn 3: Yuto
Yuto LP/Hand: 200/0
Kachidoki LP/Hand: 4000/3
"My turn. Draw. I Overlay my two Level 2 Lost Vambrace! Piercing through ten thousand warriors, the cursed spear of rebellion entombed in darkness, descend! Xyz Summon! Appear now! Rank 2! The Phantom Knights of Cursed Javelin!"
The Phantom Knights of Cursed Javelin
2 Level 2 monsters
Rank 2
DARK
ATK: 1600
DEF: 0
[ Warrior / Xyz / Effect ]
Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes 0, also it has its effects negated.
"Following that, I Overlay my two Shade Brigandine! Formed from pitch-black darkness, to fight those foolish enough to oppose it with its treacherous fangs! Now, descend! Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!"
Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon
2 Level 4 monsters
Rank 4
DARK
ATK: 2500
DEF: 2000
[ Dragon / Xyz / Effect ]
You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Level 5 or higher monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes half its current ATK, and if it does, this card gains that lost ATK. These changes last until the End Phase.
"Lost Vambrace's effect! Idaten's ATK becomes 0! Spear of Silence! I'm only giving you one chance, Kachidoki. Surrender now. Idaten's ATK reduction effect won't work against Xyz monsters," Yuto offered.
"I'd rather die than surrender to you," the latter growled.
"Hmph... Have it your way, then... Cursed Javelin attacks Idaten! Hollow Piercing!"
Kachidoki LP: 4000 – 1600 = 2400
"Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon, finish this! Revolt of the Lightning Disobey!"
Kachidoki LP: 2400 – 2500 = 0
Winner: Yuto
As Yuto made his exit from the stadium, Yuya leapt down from where he was seated in the front row, intent on following him. Acknowledging the other's presence, Yuto stopped in the entrance hall, turning to face the green-haired teen.
"What do you want, Yuya?" He asked.
"Why are you here? Nico said that Reiji sent you, but..."
"He was telling the truth. Reiji wanted me to enter this tournament. From what he told me, tomorrow marks the start of the last stage, a battle royale, and Fusion is likely to try to invade Standard then."
As his ears registered what Yuto had told him, his eyes widened in fear.
Yugo had been lying on the ground, behind the orphanage, when he heard footsteps approaching. He didn't need to look to know who was approaching him.
"What do you want?!" He snapped, clearly irritated. The older boy took moment to sit down next to him, a plate of food in his hands.
"You weren't at dinner tonight, so I saved you this. As for what I want, I want you to eat and then get some sleep. We're going to try to look for Rin again tomorrow," the raven calmly replied.
Sitting up, Yugo stared him in the eyes. "What do you mean 'we'? I told you three years ago that finding Rin is my job. You're supposed to stay here and help Martha with the children. I'm not a little kid anymore, and I don't need you to babysit me."
"Whether you need me or not isn't the point. You've never come back this soon after leaving before. That, combined with how you're acting now leads me to believe that you got in over your head. And even then, I can't help you if you don't talk to me. So just calm down and talk to me," he said, using his left hand to rub the younger boy's back.
"I found the guy that took her. That's what I thought, at least. I challenged him and almost lost thanks to a third guy butting in, and then I found out that might have been going after the wrong person the whole time. I... I just don't know what to do anymore. That's why I came out here after I got back. I've had a lot on my mind."
"It sounds like it. Just remember that I'm here for you if you need a shoulder to cry on. It's been that way since the three of us were kids. Eat up and get ready for bed. We're leaving first thing in the morning," he said, patting Yugo on the back.
Stepping foot into the Standard Dimension that night, only one thought went through Serena's head. "So, this is Standard? It reminds me of Crawford City. Or, at least what he told me it looked like. I've been at the Academia for as long as I can remember. Well, if nothing else, I'm one step closer to finding him."

YunoYudu97's Review: Oh my... got my intrigue already
Sweet! Hopefully you'll like this chapter, too, then. Oh, quick question, by the way. Think you have any guesses for who the individuals in Serena and Yugo's scenes from the last chapter are? I'm genuinely curious to see how close you get. Oh, and they're not OCs, just giving a heads up. Y'know, to be fair.
