Prologue: That's not possible
And surely it wasn't. By a long shot as he heard the whispers of the staff across from the dining table; gasping and gossiping about a certain witch. In-fact, not just any witch, but the utter vain-of-his-existence witch!
"How could this possibly be?"
"I always predicted that the girl was dangerous, she had very little aura around her. Girl's always been aggressive in nature. Stormed out of my class once when because she had no receptivity to the future"
"I could have never of imagined this! That poor man"
"Severus" The dark haired, sallow man turned towards his closest colleague...friend even with boredom. Her eyes were filled with worry and dread. Severus quirked his eyebrow surprised...well unsurprised at his colleagues reaction. She was usually quiet stoic in her approach on life after losing so much and now. Her eyes were almost filled with tears as she stared down at the page in front of her seeing the once bright student shining, now torn to shreds by the media. And dare she say; Ministry.
"We have to do something?" She whispered harshly, a quiver in her voice. Severus could only turn back to his morning coffee - long black. "The trial was yesterday"
"The girl had barely been given a trial. Why did no-one inform me she was being sentenced?"
Minerva was right in that sense. The biggest-distain in his life had a sentencing only three days post her arrest. No family present, no friends present and some shoddy ministry lawyer hired to defend her. 25years in Azkaban. A life sentence. For what? It's impossible to say.
"Obviously, the ministry did not want outside interference over an internal matter"
He watched as the pictures played. There was one of her at her trial after looking like she was being sentence. She looked as though she was dressed in drags - basically already a prisoner - hands clasped over her face, sobbing at the front desk as her overly obese and sweaty lawyer sat back in his chair seemingly bored as the sentence was read by the judge. His heart skipped a beat. Only slightly, he had remembered two-parts of the golden trio helping him prove his innocence post-war.
"This is an outrage. I'm going to speak to the Minister right now" She stood up immediately, her high-back chair falling to the ground making a loud clatter ring out through the Great Hall. Silence that could be cut with a knife. No one breathed as the Headmistress left in such a hurry. Severus took a breath as he stared down at the paper re-reading the title as he felt he had for the 10,000 time - Ex-Auror Murders Ministry Official.
Underneath was an arrest photo of Granger being taken through the Ministry of Magic. And lastly, the one that made his heart plummet. A mug-shot of the girl in rags, likely at Azkaban, hair wild with bags under her eyes. The sign she was holding read: prisoner 5362. Murderer.
