Chapter 1: Anne and Allen
Hey everyone I'm here with a new story. Now many of you have asked me if I could try my luck at Amphibia and thanks to the help of my buddy Superherotimefan I finally figured out the last details I needed to get it off the ground. I hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
We find ourselves in a large mysterious forest when a bright light suddenly shined and two figures fell to the ground.
Groaning we see one was a teenage boy with short dark brown hair, hazel eyes, a school uniform with dark blue jeans, sneakers and a silver arrowhead necklace around his neck. This was Allen Norton.
"What the heck?" Allen groans.
But when he opened his eyes Allen looked in horror at what he saw.
"Oh no, oh no, no, no. You've got to be kidding me." Allen panics when he feels something at his side.
Looking down he sees it was a small instrument case making him sigh in relief.
"Oh thank god." Allen said holding it close to his chest.
Next to him he heard a soft groan and saw a Thai-American teenage girl around his age. She had light brown skin, messy auburn hair, a female uniform similar to his but with a purple skirt. This was Anne Boonchoy.
"Hey wake up." Allen said shaking her.
"Huh? What is it, Sasha?" Anne groans.
"Wrong person." Allen said as she woke up.
"Wait what?" She said before looking around. "Where's Sasha and Marcy?"
"I don't know." Allen said before taking a deep breath. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah I think so." Anne said looking at herself.
Noticing their backpacks nearby Anne opened hers and inside they saw a fancy frog music box with a blue, green, pink and silver gemstone in them.
"No way. It was real." Anne said.
"Then that means…" Allen growls turning to her.
"Hey uh Allen was it? Listen about earlier—" Before Anne could finish Allen tackles her to the ground.
"You're dead Boonchoy!" Allen snaps as they rolled around in the grass.
"Whoa! What the heck man?!" Anne said as Allen slams her against the grass as clouds started to form over them.
"You're gonna pay!" Allen said.
"Pay? You still want me to pay for this thing?" Anne asks.
"For dragging me with you!" Allen pushes her face into a pile of leaves and when she climbed out Anne had a few leaves and some twigs stuck in her hair.
"I didn't know this was gonna happen!" Anne said breaking free and shoving him off her. "It's not like I told you to follow me."
"Oh I'm sorry was I just supposed to let you get away with stealing?" Allen glares.
"Look I need to find my friends." Anne said getting up.
"No, we need to get home." Allen said grabbing the box. "Come on you stupid thing, glow and get me home." Opening and closing it multiple times Allen seemed to be expecting something to happen, but nothing did.
"Uh look Al can I call you Al?" Anne asks nervously.
"No." Allen said almost immediately.
"Look Allen I'm sorry you got pulled into this, but I promise I'll figure out a way how." Anne said as they grabbed their bags.
"Well then until you do, I am not letting you out of my sight." Allen said shoving the box in her arms.
"What the heck is your deal Norton? A year ago you were one of the cool kids. Straight A's, lead in the school band, Soccer team's ace goalie. Then one day you suddenly shut yourself away from everyone and you became the guy of a million rumors. Showing up smelling like garbage, being all by yourself, and always working." Anne lists.
"You are in no position to judge me about me life. The only thing I want to hear is ideas on how I can get home." Allen orders.
"Fine." Anne said as they gathered up all their things. "So uh which rumor is true? Did your parents really gamble away your college money? Or did they owe money to a loan shark and they were gonna burn your home down if you didn't pay? Were you really homeless for a while?"
"No more talking." Allen said.
Holding his case close, Allen didn't let the rumors get to him because he knew not a single one of them was true.
'Why did I have to take that job at that old shop?' Allen thought thinking about how he ended up in this mess.
Flashback:
We find Allen stocking shelves at the thrift store.
Once he finished that he cleaned the windows, swept the floors and moved some old furniture on display.
When he was finally done, Allen wiped sweat from his face.
"Alright, all done." Allen said walking up to an old lady.
"Great work. Uh money transfer?" She asks holding out her phone.
"Sorry cash only." Allen said as she opened the register and gave him the money.
"Perfect. Oh and by the way. Here you go. I kept a close eye on it." She bent down to pull out his instrument case.
"Thank you." Allen smiles relieved.
"You can head out, just watch the register for me for a few minutes." The old woman said walking to the bathroom.
As Allen bent down to grab his backpack, Anne looking at the tall shelf to see the music box.
Looking to the window, Anne saw two girls telling her to do it.
One was a teenage girl with blonde hair and the other was an Asian girl with black hair. These were Sasha and Marcy, Anne's friends.
"Alright Anne you can do this." Anne said as she grabbed the box, but as she was about to put it away Allen stands up holding his gear he gasps and sees her heading to the door.
"Hey you!" Allen yells startling her.
"Whoa boy!" Anne gasps running out the door.
"Stop thief!" Allen yells leaping over the counter.
Grabbing a metal baseball bat from the store Allen ran after the three of them.
As the three girls cut into the park, they panted heavily.
"Stop right there!" Allen yells catching up to them.
"Allen?" The three girls said surprised to see their classmate.
"Return what you stole and I won't call the cops on you." Allen said holding out the bat.
However it was too late, Anne had opened the box and suddenly all four gems glowed causing a bright light to engulf them.
Flashback End:
Suddenly Allen was interrupted by his thoughts when thunder echoed startling them.
"Oh come on!" Anne whines as rain started pouring down.
Running as fast as they could the two of them went into a cave.
"I think we'll have to camp here for a while." Anne said.
"Fine." Allen sighs as they sat down. "When the rain stops, we'll see if we can find any locals."
"Works for me." Anne said laying down.
As Allen looked out the entrance to the cave, he slowly reached to the case and when he opened it we see a beautiful violin.
In it, we see a picture of a young Allen with an elderly man with glasses putting the arrowhead necklace around Allen's neck.
'What the hell have I gotten myself into Grandpa?' Allen thought before closing the case.
He was about to rest when he heard some noises.
"Uh…Anne. I don't think we're the only ones in this cave." Allen said nervously.
"Don't move." Anne said.
Pausing both saw the cave was filled with giant creepy insects.
"I hate you." Allen declares.
"I know." Anne said when they heard a loud noise.
Gulping they saw a giant red mantis monster walking up to them.
As it hissed at them both humans screamed in horror.
Grabbing their stuff the two of them sprinted out of the cave as fast as they could.
"What kind of messed up place is this?!" Allen screams.
"I don't know!" Anne said when she steps in a muddy pit making her right shoe fall in. "Allen help!"
Turning around Allen saw Anne struggle to escape while the big mantis was approaching fast.
Growling Allen ran over and grabbed her arm.
"Come one!" Allen said yanking her out of her shoe. "Let's go!"
"Wait my shoe!" Anne said.
"Leave it!" Allen said pulling her by the arm so they could get as far away from the giant insect as possible.
"If we survive this crazy place it'll be a miracle!" Anne said.
"Miracle?! I just want to make it to tomorrow!" Allen said as they ran off.
A few days later, it was late at night as we find ourselves in a small town of Wartwood where strange frog creatures hung out.
Walking out of a place called Stumpy's Diner was a blue frog with one good eye dressed in ragged clothes. This was Wally.
"Goodnight, you frogs! See you in the morrow." Wally said before bumping into a barrel much to everyone's enjoyment.
As he walked back home through the forest, Wally was playing his accordion when he heard a noise.
"Hello?" Wally asks as the nosie got closer. "What's that?"
As two shadowy figures appeared Wally let out a scream and ran off.
"Seriously?" Anne said as she and Allen climbed out of the forest. "Was it something we said?"
"Ugh the first living thing we see all day and they ran off." Allen groans.
"It's too dark to keep looking. Let's find another cave or something." Anne said as they walked off with Allen gripping his bat close.
The next morning, we find ourselves in the busy little town as a frog family came in riding on a giant snail.
On it was an orange elderly frog and in the back was a small pink frog with a hat and a little tadpole in a bucket with a bow on hear head. These were Hop Pop, Sprig and Polly.
"All right, kids I'm gonna do a little shopping. You watch the cart." Hop Pop said.
"You got it, Hop Pop! I'll defend this cart with my LIFE!" Sprig declares.
"Sprig, I was talking to Polly." Hop Pop corrects.
"What? Polly's a baby." Sprig said.
"You're a baby!" Polly points.
"Polly's got more responsibility in her little flipper than you have in your entire body." Hop Pop said.
"Ridiculous. What makes you think I'm irresponsible?" Sprig asks.
"Gee let met think." Hop Pop said recalling Sprig blowing up dinner, breaking the wall down while riding on a cow worm and leaving the lights on at night making their house get attacked by giant fireflies.
"Okay so yesterday was a bad day." Sprig admits as Hop Pop grabbed his bag.
"Polly, make sure Sprig stays in the cart." Hop Pop said before going inside.
"Wish there was a way to prove I'm not such a goof-up." Sprig sighs.
Suddenly Wally's scream echoed through the town as he ran in as fast as he could.
"Monsters! Th-there's monsters in the woods! I seen it! I seen it!" Wally screams getting their attention.
"Now, simmer down Wally. Just tell us what you saw." A blue toad in a nice outfit said walking over. This was Mayor Toadstool.
"Oh, it was horrifying. They had huge heads, a weird, stubby bump right in the middle of its face and long spindly limbs!" Wally said making Anne and Allen out of sticks and leaves much to the citizen's horror.
"Obscene!" A frog yells.
"We better catch these beasts before it hurts somebody. Because for Mayor Toadstool, your safety comes first." Toadstool said making the citizens cheer.
"Well, it's the responsible thing to do." Wally said.
"Polly, I just had a great idea. I am going to catch those beasts and save the town." Sprig said.
"Stop right there! Hop Pop said that you had to stay in this cart." Polly said stopping him. "You know you can't take me!" Polly said flexing her muscles to reveal they were huge.
Narrowing his eyes, Sprig reached into his shirt. "Oh, oh, Polly, look. Candy." He bribes dropping it down around her bucket.
"Bribe accepted!" Polly declares leaping out of her bucket and eating the sweets like Pac Man.
"Let the monster hunt begin!" Sprig said leaving the wagon.
"Don't die!" Polly calls out.
In the forest we see Sprig leaping from branches and looking all over for the monsters.
As he popped out of a log, a bug was in his hair.
Shooting his tongue out Sprig ate the bug before landing on a patch of leaves.
"Seems like the beast roams these parts. Probably the best place for—" Before Sprig could finish a trap snared his leg yanking him up.
"Got ya!" Allen said as he stepped out holding his bat while Anne had a stick sharpened to a spear. Both were covered in dirt stains and clearly tired.
"Caught ya! Thought you got the best of ol' Anne, eh? Well, you didn't!" Anne declares.
"Giant head! Spindly limbs! Face bump! The beasts!" Sprig yells.
"Stop following us." Anne said.
"I have bad news beasts. I taste terrible." Sprig said.
"What? No we're not gonna eat you." Allen said.
"That's gross." Anne said equally disgusted.
"You tried to eat Wally!" Sprig said.
"You mean that frog from last night?" Allen asks.
"No. We tried to ask "Wally" for directions. He ran off the second he saw us." Anne said.
"That does sound like Wally." Sprig said when they heard a loud screeching noise.
"Oh no, it's nearby." Allen panics.
"It's coming back!" Anne panics.
"What is?" Sprig asks as both humans ran away. "Where are you going?"
Struggling Sprig tried to break free as the beast got closer.
Turning around Allen and Anne cut him down and pull him into a log.
Panting heavily they look to see a giant red leg pass by them.
Looking through the log holes they see the mantis leaving the area allowing to take it easy.
"You... you saved me! You're not beasts at all! You're heroes! Ugly, ugly, ugly heroes!" Sprig smiles.
"Call me ugly again, and maybe I will eat you." Anne jokes.
"Ha. You're not gonna eat me." Sprig said.
"Probably. Way too smiley for my taste." Allen said.
"You got names?" Sprig asks.
"Anne. Anne Boonchoy."
"Allen Norton."
"I'm Sprig Plantar! Put 'er there!" Sprig said holding out his hand.
"Uh okay." Anne and Allen shook his hands and got slime all over them.
Cringing both wiped them off when their stomachs began to rumble.
"Okay, "Sprig". You got anything to eat?" Anne asks.
"Sure do." Sprig rips open part of the log to reveal tons of bugs.
"Uh maybe something that's not bugs." Allen cringed.
"No bugs, eh? We'll have to hunt around a bit." Sprig said eating one. "Come on. Follow me."
"How do we know we can trust you?" Allen asks.
"Whaat? Does this look like a face that could deceive you?" Sprig asks making a cutesy face.
"I guess not." Anne laughs.
"You'd be surprised." Allen mutters looking at her.
"Well then come on. It's chowtime." Sprig said pulling them away.
Back in town, Hop Pop came out of the store to see a mob forming.
"When I say kill you say it." Mayor Toadstool instructs. "Kill!"
"It!" The citizens said.
"Kill!"
"It!"
"Heh. Another day, another mob." Hop Pop said going to the wagon. "Come on kids we have to—"
Gasping he saw Polly laying down with a bloated look.
"I don't have a candy problem! You have a candy problem!" Polly said.
"Polly, where's Sprig?!" Hop Pop panics.
"Uh something something monsters, something something woods." Polly recalls.
"Oh, if your boy went into the woods, he's as good as eaten. Those beasts will devour everything in their path." Wally declares.
"Not on my watch!" Hop Pop grabs Polly. "Hang in there boy! Hop Pop's a-coming!" Hopping over the crowd Hop Pop raced into the forest.
"Yeah!" The villagers said running after him.
"Harvest the toenails for medicinal purposes!" Wally yells.
In the forest, Sprig dumps a bunch of plants and mushrooms in front of them.
Reaching out both humans took a bite.
"Not bad." Allen smiles.
"These are pretty good." Anne agrees.
"So, first question: What the heck are you, and where did you come from?" Sprig asks.
"We're human beings." Allen said eating a mushroom.
"And we're from…another world!" Anne declares. "Either that, or this is a dream."
"Hang on let me check." Allen stomps on Anne's foot making her scream in pain.
"Nope not a dream." Anne cringed.
"Shame." Allen smirks.
"So do you know how you got here?" Sprig asks.
"Nope. One minute, we were in our world and the next thing I knew I was here. I don't know how to get home or if I even can go home. So, yup, that's my story." Anne said.
"Well at least you're stuck with your friend." Sprig said.
"She's not my friend. She's the girl who ruined my life." Allen glares.
"Oh…so she's you're ex-girlfriend?" Sprig assumes making Anne and Allen spit out their food in shock.
"What? Ew no way." Anne said.
"Not in a million years." Allen said.
"Really? You two sure act it." Sprig asks.
"Forget it. So what are you doing out here?" Allen asks.
"Proving I'm responsible." Sprig said.
"Doing what?" Anne asks.
"Uhhh…" Sprig pauses.
Popping out of the grass Wally spots them.
"There they are!" Wally said as the villagers surrounded them.
"What? Hey stay away from me!" Anne yells as both humans were tied up and nailed to the ground.
"Let us go!" Allen yells.
"No! You guys got it all wrong!" Sprig said trying to stop them.
"Ha-ha! You caught the monsters! Sprig I'm impressed." Hop Pop smiles.
"Dude, what the heck? You set me up? I thought we were connecting!" Anne said.
"I knew I couldn't trust you!" Allen snaps.
"N-no, no, no! This wasn't my plan." Sprig said trying to explain.
Suddenly emerging from the woods a large green mantis monster screeched.
"Hurry! Everyone! Mantis formation!" Mayor Toadstool orders.
Gathering together the villagers formed a tall frog pyramid.
"Hiyah!" A villager said and the mantis ran off.
"We scared it off!" Hop Pop said as they all cheered.
"We have power!" Mayor Toadstool said as the red mantis that was chasing them landed behind them much to everyone's horror.
"Nope that scared it off." Polly said.
"Yeah that makes more sense." Hop Pop agrees.
Screeching the giant red mantis knocked the villagers away.
"It's gonna eat our guts!" They screamed in fear.
Screaming Anne suddenly felt Sprig untying her and Allen again.
"What trick are you playing no?" Anne asks.
"I'll distract that thing. You get out of here." Sprig said hoping over to distract the mantis.
"Come on Allen we got to go." Anne said grabbing his arm.
"What about them?" Allen asks.
Taking out a slingshot, Sprig fired a rock hitting the mantis in the eye making it screech.
"Oops." Sprig gulps seeing that was a bad idea.
He might have sold them out but he came back to help them.
Racing in Anne stopped the giant mantis with her bare hands.
Grabbing the bat, Allen swings it nailing the mantis in the face making it stumble backwards.
"Dogpile!" Allen said as they both jumped on top of it.
Looking over Sprig saw the two of them hold it down.
"Do something!" Anne yells as they struggled against it.
"Oh, right! On it. Here we go." Grabbing a rope, Sprig ran around the mantis causing it to get tangled up.
Seeing what he was doing the two humans grabbed the ropes and pulled with all their might causing the bug to fall to the ground dead.
"It's down!" Mayor Toadstool said as the citizens cheered.
"We did it!" Sprig, Anne and Allen cheered.
"Up top." Anne said holding out her hands and Sprig shot his tongue out hitting her hand instead.
"Yeah still gross." Allen cringed.
"Well, now that that's settled, what the heck are we gonna do with them? Maybe we oughta run them out of town just to be safe. Let them be someone else's problem." Mayor Toadstool suggests.
Roaring in agreement the frog people advanced.
"Stop right there!" Sprig said getting in between them. "They're not monsters. They're just lost and need our help. We should take care of them."
Hearing this Allen and Anne couldn't help but smile
"Are you crazy?" Mayor Toadstool asks.
"Yeah. What if it goes nutty tomorrow and starts eating people?" Wally asks.
"I think that's the one thing you don't have to worry about." Allen said.
"Yeah not gonna happen buddy." Anne said grossed out at the thought.
"Don't worry yourselves silly. I'll keep an eye on 'em, all three of 'em." Hop Pop said.
"Hmm. Have it your way, Hopediah Plantar, but I don't like it. All right boys pack it in." Mayor Toadstool said as they all left taking the mantis with them.
"Looks like I'm back to causing trouble for the family again, huh?" Sprig asks expecting a scolding.
"Trouble? Sprig, standing up to that angry mob to help these two out was... Some of the bravest and most responsible stuff I've ever seen." Hop Pop declares.
"That was pretty cool, Sprig. It was also really dumb." Polly adds.
"Yes. Really, really dumb." Hop Pop agrees but Sprig didn't seem fazed.
"You think I'm responsible?" Sprig asks.
Nearby Anne and Allen had their phones out trying to find a signal.
"Well, yeah, I mean, just this one time." Hop Pop said.
"Yes! Victory!" Sprig said doing a dance.
"Wel, this has been great, but just give me a map. We gotta find my way out of this kooky place." Anne said.
"The sooner the better." Allen said.
"Oh, a map won't be enough." Hop Pop said showing them a map of Wartwood surrounded by scary mountains. "This here valley is surrounded by mountains that are impenetrable this time of year."
"It should clear up in a couple of months." Sprig said.
"Months?!" Allen gasps.
"But until then, you try to cross those mountains…" Hop Pop starts.
"You will die." Polly said.
"So we're stuck in this place for 2 months?" Anne asks as Allen held up his hands wanting to strangle her. "Where are we gonna stay?"
At the Plantar family farm, Hop Pop led Allen and Anne down to the basement.
"All righty. Kitchen's upstairs. Breakfast at sunrise, sharp." Hop Pop said.
"Thanks dude." Anne said putting her stuff on one side.
"I really appreciate it." Allen said moving his stuff to the other side.
"I don't suppose either of you have worked on a farm before?" Hop Pop asks.
"Hmm not farm work, but I've done a series of small jobs so maybe one of them is close to what you need help with." Allen said.
"We'll see." Hop Pop said leaving.
Up above, Sprig came in with tons of stuffed plushies.
"Brought some toys to keep you company. I'm too old for these. O-oh, except for this one. Oh, and this one. Oops, this one too. Sorry. This one as well." Sprig said grabbing them but as he walked out he dropped one. "I'm glad you're living with us, monsters."
"Thanks Sprig." Anne said.
"See ya, weird little frog boy." Allen said as Sprig left.
Taking out her bag, Anne removes a cloth revealing the music box.
"It's not gonna work Anne. We've tried that every night since we got here." Allen said.
"Just one more time." Anne opens the box hoping it would glow, but once again nothing happened. Opening it up three more times Anne sighs in defeat.
"Looks like we're gonna be here a while Allen." Anne sighs.
Narrowing his eyes, Allen rolls out his sleeping bag.
"Allen…I'm sorry." Anne apologizes. "I didn't mean to drag you into this. But if Marcy and Sasha are out there maybe we should try and find them?"
"We? There's no we. This is all your fault. You want to go out there and kill yourself trying to find them be my guest." Allen said.
"But Allen they're friends." Anne said.
"No, they're your friends. As far as I'm concerned Anne, we're just roommates until we can get home and the only way to do that is to work together to make it through these next months. After we get home, I'm going back to my family and I never want to see you again." Allen said.
"Which family? The drinkers, the gamblers, the ones that beat you or that ones that kicked you out and make you sleep in the garbage?" Anne asks listing some of the rumors she's heard.
"Those are not my parents! My parents are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet! They give me and my siblings a wonderful home! Those are just stupid rumors ignorant people like you and your friends spread all over school because you don't know when to mind your own business!" Allen snaps.
"Because you don't say anything. You shut yourself away from everyone." Anne said.
"By choice. I'm a self-proclaimed loner. There's a difference. At least I'm not a mindless sheep who does everything others tell her to do. Like robbing a store." Allen said.
"Well if your life was so great why are you the way you are now?" Anne asks.
"You wouldn't understand." Allen said grabbing Sprig's plushie off the ground. "Good night Anne."
As he turned to sleep with his back to her Anne narrowed her eyes.
Clearly there was more to him than what she thought and he was right. It was her fault he was here. But if they were gonna survive they would need to learn to work together.
