[Dear readers, Thank you so much for your forbearance this last year (or two). Please know that this story is not over; in fact, we are just getting to the good parts! It's been harder than I thought to find time and inspiration to write since my husband's terminal cancer diagnosis. He wasn't supposed to make it to Christmas 2021 but his last round of CT scans came back clear so we decided to seize the day. In a matter of weeks, we booked flights, packed up our two young daughters and ourselves, and set off to officially strike something off of our bucket list this summer. Where did we go, you ask? It brings me great joy to share with you that I am composing this note from the heart of historic downtown Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. We've rented a room in a charming inn that was built in 1903 and formerly served as a guest house. It's exactly as I imagine the rooming house Anne, Diana, and the girls stayed in while taking their courses at Queen's College. It has been an absolute pleasure wandering the streets of Charlottetown and imagining where the story of Anne & Gilbert might lead to next. We even stumbled into an official celebration of Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee hosted by PEI's Lieutenant Governor and ate the most mouth-watering strawberry shortcake this side of heaven. We are heading to Cavendish tomorrow for a full day of drinking in the life and times of Lucy Maud Montgomery who wrote "Anne of Green Gables" which I highly recommend to any "Anne with an E" fans who haven't already taken the plunge. Needless to say, I expect to be full of inspiration by the end of this week and (hopefully) ready to dive back into the age old question of "What could have been?" xo Kate]
