CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINE

Website where all photos of all outfits mentioned is on my profile. 5 reviews gets next chapter early.

It's not till a few hours later when I'm back at Jax's house making dinner for the 2 hungry bikers that I realise I haven't read any of the information the assessor noted down in his report. I set the potatoes in the oven and sit down at the table with the pages pulled out in front of me. None of it really makes sense, he's spent a lot of the notes referencing photos that he'd taken, the few things that I do note are not the nicest things. There's a short reference to my 'combative attitude' and my reluctance to supply document's, both of which make me angry as the documentation he requested had already been supplied and the combative attitude that he noted was in reference to his inability to take note of the name and gender of the person who's vehicle he was assessing.

Most of the rest of the notes seem to be about the condition of the car, the last couple of lines are in reference to the location of it. The garage being labelled in his handwriting as a 'hang around for the local criminals and possibly concealing a chop shop' are the ones that make my jaw drop and my vision go red. I'm tempted to ring the office then and there, but I know that no one will be available at this time so I make a mental note to ring them the following day when I have a chance as his final note in the assessment is that he's of the opinion that the damage was not as major after the accident and we had made it worse prior to his arrival. The words 'insurance fraud' are written at the very bottom of the final page and underlined.

My blood is boiling when I stand up and go into the living room, Jax looks up from whatever it was on the TV he and Hap were watching and after a quick look at my face he mutes the TV "What's up?"

I hand the paperwork to him and point at the line at the bottom. "Can you get Juice to pull the footage down of the tart and her brain malfunction? I want to courier it tomorrow."

Jax nods and pulls his phone out, after a quick call to Juice who is still at the clubhouse he lets me know there will be copies on 2 pen drives and 2 CD's in the morning for me.

I call out a quick thank you to Juice and go back to the kitchen. Checking on the potatoes I throw the steaks under the grill and cut some thick slices of bread. 10 minutes later dinners on the table, I don't bother to go into the living room, choosing to call them as I sit down instead. The pair of them appear barely a minute later and dive into their food.

I can't help but laugh at them, I guess the sandwich and fries Jax had for lunch wasn't enough, and I don't know what Happy had.

Happy looks over and raises his eyebrow while shoving a forkful of steak and potatoes into his mouth. I smile "Just laughing at how hungry you guys are. You should eat more."

Jax glares at me, but the grin tugging at the corner of his mouth shows there no malice in it "Well then make us lunch for tomorrow!"

I roll my eyes at him "Can't, going to be at the house tomorrow cleaning."

Jax's face forms an odd expression and he pushes back from the table, pulling his cell phone out he heads outside while he makes a phone call. From where I'm sitting I can see him pacing as he talks, he's back inside within a few minutes, the almost frown gone and a half-smile on his face instead. On his way to the table he passes the fridge and grabs a couple of beers and a bottle of water, passing the water to me he sits down and hands the other beer to Happy.

"How much cleaning you gotta do?" He asks, taking a couple of mouthfuls before picking up his cutlery again.

I groan "Shit loads. The whole house has to be stripped clean. All the fixtures and fittings, the carpets, vinyl, wallpaper, cupboards the whole lot."

He nods "Clay's cleared me, Opie and Miles to help tomorrow and next week."

"And me." Happy inserts from his seat, looking up to catch Jax's eye, the pair have a few seconds of silent conversation before Jax nods once and quickly rings Clay to let him know Hap will be with us if he's needed. While Jax is on the phone I steal it from him and quickly let Clay know where there is a container of bribery cupcakes if he needs them, with me stealing a portion of his man power for a Friday he may have to show my appreciation towards the rest of the club, and the mechanics for letting four of them free.

I feel the huge weight lifted off my shoulders and hug them both from where I'm sitting, Happy is sitting rigidly in his seat, a glare firmly fixed on his face and the giggle that comes out of me causes him to scowl even more. I lean close to him, my mouth less than an inch from his ear "There are cupcakes here too. But none till after you've eaten all your dinner."

The smile that forms on his face is not something commonly seen out of the club but he dives back into his dinner and clears his plate within a few minutes. I manage to get through half the steak and one potato before I have to admit defeat, the steak left on my plate vanishes before I can even push myself away from the table. Jax looks up with a grin on his face, made comical by the smear of BBQ sauce on his lip; cutting into my steak he stuffs a huge bite in his mouth and mumbles "Thanks." around it.

I open the upper cupboard and pull out the tray of cupcakes I'd managed to keep hidden from Happy when we came home; popping the container in the middle of the table I grab one and vanish into the living room, taking my laptop with me.

When the pair of them come out of the kitchen, slightly glazed looks in their eyes from all the sugar I spend a second wondering about how many cupcakes are left but mentally shrug my shoulders, I don't have to pay their dentist bills. Jax places a cup of coffee beside me and I glance up at him, shocked by the simple gesture.

"Don't tell Ma, she'll want the same treatment." He grins at me.

He and Happy go back to whatever it was they were watching, all I can tell is it's full of loud engine noises and half naked women.

Closing my laptop a short while later I stand up and take the empty cup with me to the kitchen, loading all the dishes into Jax's ancient dishwasher I contemplate ordering a new one but decide that I've spent enough money on a kitchen I won't be in for that much longer.

When the dishes are all loaded in there's still plenty of room so I decide not to put it on yet, but wander slowly round the house gathering up dirty laundry, throwing a load of washing in the machine I set it going and then find myself completely at a loose end.

After 20 minutes of me wandering aimlessly round the house Jax obviously gets sick of it and silences the TV. Turning to me he semi-snaps "Sit down, or leave the room. K?'

I feel my cheeks darken a little and I turn and leave the room, going into the bathroom and clicking the door closed behind me. I contemplate a bath but the ink on my skin is still too fresh to be soaking in water. Looking around the tiny room I spot the pile of cleaning products in the corner and decide to clean the bathroom instead.

By the time I come out almost 45 minutes later the whole room is spotless, the bath is almost shining, the shower glass is crystal clear and the surfaces all smell like lemon, if you'd want to sniff them, there's still a faint smell of my body wash but it's overpowered by the lemony smell.

Dropping the used rags into the laundry I put the washing into the dryer and set it going before walking through the living room. Tapping Jax on the shoulder I tell him I'm going to bed, he nods absently and turns his attention back to the cars on the screen. I smile at Hap and head down the hall, the fact I'm in a towel seems to have been completely missed by Jax.
