Chapter 16 – Nothing is for free
POV Aoba
Sanu just got finished assigning the new roles to us, and my jaw and stomach still hurt from all the laughing and grinning that discussion had involved.
Legoshi, Juno and I got the lead-roles once again of course, and since the majority had chosen the light and funny piece instead of the deep and dramatic one, there had been a lot of funny stuff to discuss for us.
"Hey Legoshi" I told him with a little nudge, as I met him in the locker-room a minute later, "…you gotta have to start working out for the ladies again, don't you?"
"Yeah, yeah…" he sighed, seemingly still a little bummed that most of the actors voted for the more-silly peace rather than the more-challenging, mature one.
"Come on…" I told him, patting his shoulder with a little chuckle, "…it´s gonna be fun."
"You´re just happy because you can take off again, aren't you?" he asked back with a little smirk, really trying to fake a happy mood.
"You bet he is!" Kai chuckled, who just had joined us here room as well, "Just look at him feeling like the king of the skies!"
"No point in trying to hide it, is there?" I grinned, struggling yet once again to close the door of my locker properly.
I really had to slam it shut ever since those big dents got into it and crooked the entire panel. I didn´t get around to ask him yet, but I was pretty sure Legoshi probably knew how that happened. I got the feeling he smiled a tiny little bit as I tried to close it right now, but somehow, I wanted to keep that a mystery to myself rather than bluntly asking him. It was way more fun to keep it a little bit of a secret.
"…I don't think you can complain too much about your part…" I told the wolf with a little grin, "…I think I have it way harder than you once again… …I have no idea how to freaking break-dance…"
"I´m sure you´ll figure it out…" he told me with that motivating little smirk of his, before he grabbed his backpack and set about leaving the locker-room, "…have a nice evening guys, see you tomorrow!"
So it didn't seem like he was down for a little chat today, sadly. But I had to respect that as well, he was a busy guy these days.
"Oh hey!" I stopped him quickly nevertheless, "…don't forget to ask your dorm-mate about the music! I think it would be really awesome!"
He nodded with a little smile, then he left the room and closed the door behind him gently.
"Doesn't seem like he´s too happy about the vote" Kai chuckled, as he tried opening his locker which was right next to mine and had quite a few dents in it as well.
"He´s never been happy about any vote so far" I said while shrugging my shoulders, "…but he crushed it every time."
"That wolf is such a mystery to me" he agreed, taking his backpack out of his locker, "…so talented yet so humble."
I nodded, watching him struggle with his locker as well in great amusement.
"Just what the heck happened to these damn lockers?" he cursed lowly, as he struggled to properly close it just like me earlier, "Was there a fight in here?"
"…I think I have an Idea what happened there" I chuckled, shaking my head a little as I just noticed some brownish-red bits of fur falling onto the floor from his locker. It must have been the first time he opened it since the few-week break the drama-club took after Volpone.
"Looks a bit like Juno´s fur, doesn´t it?" Kai asked, "…but what would she do in the boy´s locker-room?"
"What would Legoshi do in the girl´s locker room?" I asked in return while raising an eyebrow. It seemed kind of suspicious that he guessed Juno as well but then couldn´t figure out what happened.
"Bullshit" he grinned now, "That´s not what happened! Legoshi wouldn´t do something that…"
Now I was certain of it. He knew it as well, he just tried to deny it.
"No?" I asked in amusement, "What about Bill´s girlfriend then?"
That question immediately made the grin fade from his face.
"…and name one other guy she would do that with, who has the kind of force you need to wreck these lockers like that…"
"I dunno…" he sighed, "…Bill maybe?"
I wasn´t able to hold back my laughter at this point.
"How is that any better from his perspective?"
"What?" he asked, as I just kept shaking my head in amusement.
"First of all: Bill was in hospital. Secondly: Bill is the last one Juno would think about doing that with."
"I don't know man…" he still tried to doubt it, "…I just can´t imagine Legoshi doing something like that."
I couldn´t understand why he even was still trying to deny it, he should have accepted it a long time ago already.
"…dude, try to get that girl out of your head, okay? Legoshi has won that battle first day they met."
"Wh-what?" he stammered, as I grabbed my copy of the script from the bench and headed for the door as well now.
"…the way you still look at her is quite obvious" I told him with a little wink, "…and I don't blame you, she´s a very attractive girl…but I can guarantee it to you, she´s not going to be interested in you anytime soon."
"Oh yeah?" he asked, now truly sounding a little salty, "…well the way you look at Legoshi is obvious too! But you´ll not be anything more than a sidekick to him anytime soon either."
That made me stop in my tracks for another moment.
"Yeah…" I confessed in all seriousness, looking him right in the eyes for a moment, "…he´s a freaking hero to me. He gave the drama-club so much and still is as humble as he was when he fixed the lights. He brought you back onto the stage as well if you remember. Think about that for a moment. Don't blame anyone for looking up to him, you should be doing that too."
And with that I opened the door to the hallway. He just stared at me with a mad expression, but I just raised an eyebrow in slight amusement. I was still on top in that conversation, and I could tell how much that annoyed him right now.
"…look at you sucking that little wolf-dick" he grumbled lowly, just as I was about to leave the room.
I just smiled at him once again with an amused chuckle, then I closed the door behind me and headed for the exit.
Just outside the building I met Juno and Sheila casually talking to each other.
"Hey guys" I greeted them again, "…happy with your roles?"
Juno just tilted her head a bit at that question. "Not too sure about it yet…" she said, "…seems a little silly."
"Legoshi thought so too…" I confessed lowly, before I added with a little chuckle: "I guess he just doesn't want to play in underwear anymore."
That made both of them grin widely.
"Come on" I chuckled, "It´s gotta be fun."
"I think so too…" Sheila agreed carefully, "…I really hope we get some live music from those ´Little Lion Man´-guys though! They were awesome on stage and we could do some really good, powerful performances to their music…"
"See!" I told Juno, "…its gonna be one hell of a show! We´re doing a freaking musical this time!"
"Alright, alright!" she agreed with a little giggle, just as I noticed Kai leaving the building as well and walking past us, "…I guess it´s gonna be fine as long as Legoshi doesn´t leave us alone with it."
She said that just in the perfect moment. The mongoose had obviously heard that, I noticed that because he stopped in his tracks very shortly, but then he didn't turn around and kept walking away from us quickly.
"Guess Kai is not too happy with the vote either…" Sheila chuckled lowly as he was out of earshot.
"It´s not about the vote…" I chuckled lowly, not able to hide a slightly malicious grin, "…I´m pretty sure his broken locker door gave him a bit of a headache…"
Normal POV
"Hey Legoshi…" Miguno asked him carefully, as the wolf came back into the dorm and threw himself onto his matrass lazily.
The spotted hyena had been alone in the dorm for quite a while already, and he was glad he was finally not alone anymore. Durham still was doing some sporty stuff, Jack, Collot and Voss were studying for a test in the library and Legoshi just came back from the drama club he was pretty sure.
Miguno felt a little uncomfortable with what he wanted to ask him, but Legoshi could already guess what it was and nodded with a warm little smile.
"…could we…could we get the keys for tonight?"
The wolf just smiled a little, obviously having expected that question.
"Have you talked to Jack about this?" he asked with a little chuckle, "…I´m pretty sure he wanted them as well sometime this week…"
"Not yet…" he confessed, "…but I´m sure I can make a deal with him…"
"You´ll figure something out…" he chuckled with a little smirk, searching for the keys in his pockets, "…you should wait until the cleaning-lady is gone though…" he told the hyena while tossing them over to him, "I think she comes on Wednesday afternoons as well…"
Miguno nodded with a little smirk, looking at the ring with the keys in his hand in great delight. "Thank you, Legoshi!"
The wolf just hinted a little nod with a warm smirk, as he rested his head on the pillow for a moment.
"…can I…can I ask you something else" the hyena then asked his quite worn-out dormmate.
"Huh?"
"…I know it´s a weird topic…but have you ever had some…let´s say odd…meetings with fans of yours?"
Legoshi thought about it for a second, then he just nodded to that question.
"… …I just met somebody in the hallway…who had seen our performance on YouTube…"
"Oh, that´s awesome!"
"…yeah…" he agreed, "…but then she made some really…strange…offers..."
Legoshi just nodded understandingly. That didn´t seem to be something new to him either.
"You´ve had something like that too?" Miguno continued digging nevertheless.
He just nodded again with a little smirk, then he waved it off. "As long as she doesn´t start stalking you…you should be fine..."
"God, I hope not!" he said.
"What did she want?" he asked, being quite interested in that actually.
"She…uhm…" I stuttered, also because his grin already widened a little, "…well…"
"Just say it, Miguno…" he chuckled, "…I don't think you could shock me with anything."
"…well…she kinda wanted to suck off the entire band if we are interested in that..." he said lowly.
That just left the wolf grinning in great amusement. "And you´re not interested?"
Miguno was a little dumbfounded that he asked that so bluntly. He really had changed since he became a Beastar. Although he didn´t think that this straight forward style suited Legoshi too much, the Wolf certainly had a point with asking that question.
"I…I mean…I was a little curious at first, not gonna lie…"
"Scared of Durham finding out?" the interrogation continued, which he had gotten himself into with that.
Miguno just shook his head to that with a little smirk. He believed they both knew that Durham wasn´t the type to be salty about something like that.
"…no, I think Durham would seriously consider this as well. He´s by far the horniest person I know...I think he´d do it with anyone who lifted their tail for him…"
He nodded with an understanding little smirk. Miguno was surprised how unbothered Legoshi was about that topic. He didn't look at him any differently than before. Either he could hide it way better than Collot or Voss for example, or he really didn´t mind about it.
"How are things between you two by the way?" the wolf rather wanted to know right now, as he thought that was a good moment to ask.
It had been quite confusing for him and also the rest of the dorm.
Miguno struggled a little with that answer, so it couldn´t be that simple after all.
"It´s…well…not that easy…" he then explained, "…we both really enjoy each other´s company…and I really love him for who he is and…and I think he really likes me as well…but I also think that he´s more into girls that guys…and, you know…I´m a little curious too if I´m totally honest."
Legoshi just nodded understandingly once again. "There is nothing wrong about that…" he told him, "…and I think you can just talk to him about that as well..."
"You sure?"
"You guys are best friends, right?" he asked with a shrug of his shoulders and a little smirk, "…and you´ve been sleeping under the same blanket the last few nights…"
"I couldn't ever live without him…" the hyena confessed, "…I love him…but I´m not…in love with him. …does that make any sense?"
That suddenly did make Legoshi open his eyes again. To his big shock, that actually did make a lot of sense to him. He knew that feeling just too well, but he would have never been able to wrap it in words like that or to confess this to anyone. He nodded shortly, feeling really affected by that topic all over sudden.
"…so it´s nothing too serious…?" he concluded, hoping it wasn´t too obvious how well he could feel into that situation.
Miguno just shook his head with a little smile, and it really didn´t look like he was too sad about that.
Legoshi wasn´t totally convinced of that though. He had seen how much he was in love with him before the concert, and although Miguno might acted that out very well, he had a slight suspicion the hyena was lying to himself with that.
He didn't want to get too far into that topic right now though, so he just left it at that for now and kept on resting his head on his pillow.
Miguno examined the wolf while he had his eyes closed. To him, his whole appearance was even more impressive since he became a Beastar. His view went from his face down his long abdomen all the way down towards his crotch. He stared at that last part way too long he noticed, but since Legoshi still had his eyes closed he figured it wasn´t too bad.
"So…you´ve gotten offers like that as well?" he got back to the earlier topic, "…by fans I mean."
He nodded with a tired little smirk. "…trust me, I don't think that´s worth it. I could have saved myself a lot of trouble…"
Miguno nodded understandingly. He was well aware of that story.
It seemed like Legoshi didn´t really want to talk about any more of that stuff right now. He rather yawned deeply, obviously feeling very tired from the stressful day he had already, but then he got up from his matrass once again and started searching for something in his backpack. It seemed to be his new drama-club script.
"What´s the new piece?" Miguno wanted to know, since Legoshi already looked at it quite sceptical.
"We got to vote this time…" he sighed, "…we had to choose between a very dark, but also very impressive drama-piece called ´Heracles´ or a very crazy, totally spaced out drug-trip called ´The Odyssey´."
"Let me guess…" Miguno grinned.
"Yeah" he affirmed, before he sarcastically added, "…Aoba will be break-dancing and flying around again and I´ll run around in underwear for most of the time. Who would have thought?"
"Wait…are you serious?" Miguno chuckled.
He nodded with a little sigh, but then his mood changed suddenly: "Oh! Before I forget: I`m supposed to ask you if you and your band want to provide us with music for that!"
That news filled the Hyena with a lot of joy as well, just like Legoshi had expected.
"What, really?!"
"Yeah" Legoshi affirmed with a little smile, "If you guys are down to practice with us every now and then…you know, studying a few ques and so on...some dance choreographies…"
"Y-yeah…I…I mean…sure!" he stuttered, "…I mean…I´ll ask the guys if they want to…but I´d be glad to do that!"
"Awesome" he smiled contentedly.
"So…we would really be on stage next to you and the other actors?" he asked, still not quite sure if he got that right.
"Yeah…" Legoshi affirmed, getting up from his matrass once again after checking the time on his phone quickly, "…gonna be fun!"
The wolf got up from his bed and stretched himself shortly, yawning into his hand once again. This has been quite a long day for him already, but it still wasn't over yet, sadly.
"You got driving lessons again tonight?" Miguno asked, as Legoshi got himself his jacket and put on his shoes once again.
"Yeah…" he sighed, "Four in a row. I have my practical test tomorrow."
"Man…they are going down hard on you with that, aren't they?"
He nodded tiredly.
"…but also…you´ll be able to go wherever you want soon! …how cool is that?"
"Yeah" the wolf agreed with a little nod, opening the door to the hallway again already, "…but where do they want me to go I wonder?"
POV Legoshi
"What do I know where they want you to know?" he retorted, as I asked him the same question I asked Miguno a few minutes earlier, "…all I know is that I finally don't have to chauffeur your ass around anymore."
"Good for you…" I sighed at the apparently every-day grumpy wolf next to me in the car.
I didn´t really have a need to continue this conversation at this point, and since asking him further questions about that wouldn´t lead me anywhere either, I left it at that and kept looking out of the windows.
"…what were those dorm-mates of yours doing in your flat again?" he suddenly asked out of nowhere.
I blinked shortly, wondering if I really heard that right, then I shook my head a little before I looked towards him. "…you probably don't want to know that in full detail, Fluffy."
"Listen, kid!" he growled, "The boss can call me whatever she likes. You won´t talk to me like that!"
"You never told me your real name" I replied calmly, "What else should I call you?"
He hesitated for a moment now. "Boris" he then told me.
I nodded shortly. "…okay, Boris. Don't you think…that…what I´m doing with my flat should remain my personal business?"
I kept looking at him so he didn´t have any chance dodging that question.
"…why do you prefer to stay in that shithole dorm-room instead of a four-room luxury apartment with a whirlpool? Just get your girl to live in there with you and live up to your title."
"I like being with my friends. And I like sharing my things with them."
"You really are the strangest Beastar I´ve ever heard of…" he sighed with a little shake of his head.
I just ignored it and watched how he steered the car through the busy evening traffic.
"…you know about the suitcase with the money in the safe, right?" he continued nevertheless.
I affirmed with a tired little nod.
"And you know the combination?"
Although I never opened it again after I checked it out, I remembered the combination, so I nodded again.
"…you´re allowed to use that money, are you aware of that?"
I nodded once more.
"Black market meat, personal items, drugs, alcohol, pussy…you can get yourself whatever you want…there is a million yen in there!"
"I know" I sighed.
"So why don't you?" Boris asked, as we yet again missed the next green light by a bus-length or two.
"My grandpa always told me only to buy the things I really need. So far I didn´t need anything."
The other wolf just continued to shake his head slowly.
"Why would you ask? What makes you think I didn´t spend anything?"
"I´m supposed to keep track of how much you spend and fill it up again in case you spent something…and so far you haven't even touched that suitcase."
"Tell me something, Boris…" I said, "…does every Beastar get a service like that? All this seems a bit extreme you know…"
"Nope. The regular Beastars can be glad if they even get a place to stay. But you´re in no way a normal Beastar" he sighed, "…what you´re getting here is the ´premium pro plus extended ultra-package´ my friend. I´ve never witnessed anybody getting treated like this."
"But why?" I wanted to know, "Why me? What is so different about me? Why doesn´t anybody tell me anything? What is the rush for me to get a driver´s license? What-"
"I don't know!" he interrupted me, "…they ain´t telling me shit either, okay?"
I wasn´t quite sure if I really wanted to believe that or not.
"…besides…" he continued, "…when I was your age, I wouldn´t even have dreamed about getting my drivers-license paid…even less about getting my own car just for free..."
"This is just ridiculous" I agreed with him, "…they really made me bigger than I am."
My chauffeur just nodded in agreement with another little sigh.
"…you seem a little jealous to be honest…" I commented ironically, trying to ease up the tension between us with humour a little.
"I can´t complain about my payment" he grunted, not taking it with humour at all.
I kept sticking to that tactic nevertheless. "…I still think they should pay you more for all your efforts" I chuckled, "…you don't seem awfully content with your situation…why don't you take some cash out of my safe and tell them I spent it?"
"Yeah, fuck you too" he grumbled, "…god I´m glad I don't have to drive you around anymore soon."
I just shrugged my shoulders with a little chuckle.
"…I don't get it…" Boris the calmed himself down a little, "…how can you hate this job so much? You´re literally getting all the luxury you could ever ask for just for keeping your mouth shut."
"Just keeping my mouth shut? Are you serious?" I thought to myself.
"…I´m exhausted. I´m exhausted of dealing with all this, I´m exhausted with being followed everywhere I go, I´m exhausted of getting clever opinions from everywhere. Why would you care what I use my money for? Why would you care about my sex-life? Why would you care about who is using my flat for whatever reason? …why would you care about my opinion? Just report it to your boss and leave me alone with this. Stop talking like you know from experience, because you pretty obviously don't have any!"
I wasn't quite sure where that just came from, but I couldn´t say it wasn´t the truth either. It felt like it was a little cold after I said it like that, but I also figured he would be able to shrug that off like he did with everything else. He obviously respected me way less than I could ever not-respect anybody, so I didn´t feel too bad about it.
"Someday, kid…" he sighed, "…someday you´ll get into real trouble with that attitude."
"Attitude?" I asked in genuine surprise, "…do you want me to be an asshole about it? Do you really want me to brag about it all day long?"
Boris had to admit that I had a point there. I never bragged about anything, so him saying that really angered me a little bit right now.
"…look at me, Fluffy!" I acted cynically, "…I have more money to spend on meat and hookers than you earn in 2 years! Look at me and the countless bitches I could take every day! Look at me and my private whirlpool!"
"Alright! Alright! I get it!" he interrupted in annoyance, "…you wanna keep on playing the humble hero…I get it!"
"Think whatever you like…" I told him tiredly, "…I don't care what you think."
"Right…" he said cynically but really lowly now, "…keep telling yourself that…"
I really had to stop myself from laughing about this at this point. He was just like a stubborn little kid. I had no idea what he wanted to reach with his countless accusations, but I just treated it like a meme at this point.
"Are you alright, Boris?" I asked him in an over-exaggeratedly caring voice, "…is there something you want to talk about maybe? Should I organize something for you?"
"Shut up you little dick" he muttered.
I just remained smiling at this point. So this big, though wolf did have weak spots in his all-gangster-facade.
"…I´m not stalking you voluntarily, okay?" he then confessed suddenly, "…trust me, I´d rather be where you are as well. Everybody does."
Although I couldn´t totally agree with that statement, I just nodded to that now. I could understand how to others my life must look really amazing right now.
We almost had arrived at my driving-school in the meanwhile, and when we pulled up in the parking lot, my driving-instructor already leaned against the car, having a smoke while waiting for me.
"Here we are, superstar" he sighed ironically, as I already opened the door to get out, "…Skye will pick you up here later, I´m heading home to my regular no-name-life now."
I just shook my head with a little sigh and closed the door behind me.
He immediately drove off again and I went driving myself.
Normal POV
"…what?" the red-vixen giggled, "…you think he has a crush on you?"
"I don't think Aoba is not one to make up gossip like that. And the way Kai walked past us when I mentioned Legoshi was quite obvious…"
"You think he´s jealous?" Anita asked, taking a little sip of her hot tea.
"Of Legoshi?" she asked with a chuckle, "No doubt about it."
"Well…there is quite a lot to be jealous about though…" the vixen grinned, looking at her friend, "…the entire school is looking after a hot wolf-girl like yourself."
"Oh stop it…" she grinned, nevertheless blushing a little at that compliment.
Anita just lightly punched her shoulder in amusement, then she took another sip of her hot beverage.
The girls had been sitting at this table since quite a while already. First, they both did homework and studied for upcoming tests, then they ended up watching funny videos on the internet and chatting for the rest of the afternoon.
Juno wasn´t really in the mood to take a closer look at the new drama-club script they had gotten today. They didn´t vote for the piece she´d rather have wanted to play and the role she got in the end wasn't all that special to her either. The only really interesting thing in the drama-club was that rumour about Kai today.
"…you know" Juno chuckled suddenly, thinking about that, "…its quite brutal to find out something like that about your crush this way… …I mean, he probably thought all that about Legoshi and I was just some gossip talk…and then he finds his locker all smashed up because…"
"Yeah…" Anita agreed with a wide grin, "…that probably was quite a hit in the face."
"I just hope he doesn´t try to pick a fight with Legoshi again…" the wolfess sighed.
"Wasn´t Legoshi the one who got him back on stage again? I thought that´s what you told me?"
"Yeah…that´s right…" she affirmed, "…but Kai can be quite stubborn about things like that."
"I think he did quite well in Volpone though…"
"Yeah, that´s true" she agreed with a shrug of her shoulders, before she added: "…but I´m not interested in him either way" with an amused little chuckle.
Then took a quick look at the time on her phone, as she had noticed that tea wasn´t really helping against the appetite that was building up inside her anymore.
Just as she wanted to ask Anita if they should get something for dinner at the counter though, they suddenly got joined by two other students. Another red fox and a bunny girl.
"Hey guys" Sebastian greeted them lowly. He wasn´t quite sure if they had completely forgiven him for all his earlier bullshit in the meanwhile as he sensed that they still were a little careful with their trust in him.
Juno just nodded with a little smile, Anita greeted them back with a simple "Hi."
"Have you guy´s seen Legoshi lately?" he wanted to know, looking around in the cafeteria.
"He´s got driving lessons again…" Juno sighed.
"Oh, okay…" he said, looking a little discouraged suddenly.
"Can I tell him something?"
"Oh…no…thanks…" he said, shaking his head a little.
Something was clearly not right with him, they all noticed that immediately. Haru seemed to know about it already, but it didn't seem like it affected her very much.
"…I was hoping I could talk to him alone for a minute…"
"What´s going on?" Anita wanted to know from her former boyfriend.
It really wasn't an easy topic for him to talk about apparently.
"…I´ve seen Bill in one of the hallways earlier…" he then confessed his issue lowly.
"What, really?!" Juno asked in surprise.
"Yeah…" he affirmed, actually gulping down his fear a little, "… …I thought they´d kick him off the school for what he did to Legoshi and I…"
That left the whole group quiet for a moment.
"Well…" Anita said, "…technically it was Louis who poisoned him..."
"Yeah but what about the baking-soda? What about when he beat me up?" he asked, really looking a little uneasy now, "…what if he still wants to take revenge on me?"
"Relax" Juno chuckled at him, "…I doubt he´s got the balls to pull off something like that again."
"Yeah…" Anita agreed, "…I don't think he would want to mess with our Beastar anymore…"
"Nah, I don't know…" Sebastian said lowly, "…I think he´s gonna get back to old habits and be the same old loud-mouthed asshole he was before. I bet he´s gonna be walking around the school feeling like a king again and start beef with everybody really soon..."
POV Bill
Walking through this school filled me with so much anxiety now. I hadn't thought about that earlier today, when I was just happy to finally leave the hospital after all this time, but now that I was here again, I just felt lost.
The whole school knew what had happened, and they all stared at me with a mix of fear, anger and also slight disbelief, since they all probably had expected I would get kicked off the school for it.
Not even my dorm-mates wanted to talk to me as it seemed. They didn´t even acknowledge me coming into the room, they were not even turning their heads towards me.
At first I was happy that I could leave the hospital, now I honestly wished I could get back into it.
I tried to ignore the silence in the room for a little while, but then I just couldn´t take it anymore.
"Guys…" I began lowly, "…I´m sorry."
That at least made them turn their heads towards me.
"…I…I mean for everything that I did…you know with Legoshi and so on…"
"…well…you´ve seen where that got you…" Liam commented coldly.
"Yeah…" I sighed, "…he really told me a lesson there."
He just nodded shortly, then he looked back into his phone, continuing with his stupid game that made him use a slingshot to shoot pigs at bird-houses and destroy them that way.
The others kept ignoring me as well as it seemed. Nobody even remotely cared I had been gone all this time.
I really wanted to talk to Cammy about this right now, or at least text with her, but since I never told her why I really ended up in the hospital in the first place, that was not an option right now either. This was just one continuous nightmare.
I couldn´t take this punishment right now. I already needed to leave this room again.
Since I was quite hungry in the meanwhile, I decided to head for the cafeteria and get something proper to eat for the first time in quite a while. Maybe that would cheer me up a little.
POV Juno
"Hey guys…" he greeted us carefully, as he approached our table, still with a bit of a limp in his walk I noticed.
Since I didn´t really know what was up with him, I just nodded towards him with a moderate smile. I noticed that neither Sebastian, Haru nor Anita didn´t want to say anything either, so we all waited for him to take the word again and tell us what he wanted.
It was quite some timing of him that he came here just three minutes after Sebastian and Haru joined us.
"I…I don't want to distract you…" he began lowly, as he noticed he wasn´t all that welcome here, "…I just wanted to say sorry to all of you! …like properly. I know it might not mean much to you, but I´m really trying to be a better person now…"
We just kept looking at him, I cocked my eyebrows a little. Then, although it caused him visual pain because of his healing foot, he actually went down into some sort of squatting position to be at our eye-level for his apology.
"…Juno" he continued, "I´m very sorry you got poisoned by accident! I never wanted that to happen and I should never have agreed to that idea in the first place."
Then he turned to Haru, obviously keeping the hardest one for the end.
"I´m very sorry for that stupid crap I pulled off to take revenge on Legoshi…"
To my big surprise Haru immediately accepted that apology with a little nod. I figured she either was really mature about it and the dust was settled about it already, or she wasn´t that innocent either.
"Interesting."
Then Bill turned towards Sebastian, finally. "…I´m very sorry for beating you up like that. I know it´s not an excuse, but I was really drunk and Louis had told me a lot of lies about you and Legoshi. And I believed them. …I know you might see me as an out of control monster, and I can´t say I can blame you for it. I promise, I won´t ever do something like that again."
I really was impressed. It looked like he genuinely meant it, and he also started tearing up a little as his voice got a little more high-pitched and crackly. He was an actor after all, and those lines he seemed to have prepared for quite a while already, but it still seemed like a sincere apology.
Sebastian just nodded slowly as well.
"…I´m glad Legoshi opened my eyes when he sent me to hospital" Bill added lowly, looking at the ground in shame, "…it was about time."
"…so…they let you come back to Cherryton?" I asked him curiously.
He nodded slowly, not expecting a lot of sympathies for that either. "Legoshi talked to the principal."
"What?!" Sebastian asked in surprise.
"He is a good guy…" Bill sighed, apparently understanding why we all were so shocked right now, "…he´s always been a good guy."
"Legoshi is a good guy…" Haru picked that up after a short moment of silence, "…but even he has his limits. You should be really grateful about that."
I actually found myself agreeing with her for once. I couldn´t deny she probably had a point with that.
Bill just nodded in agreement, then he got up on his feet again.
"Okay…" he then said lowly, "…I won´t disturb you any longer. Have a good evening!"
And with that and a quick wave, he turned around and left us again, heading for the cafeteria self-service as it seemed like.
This must have been quite an uncomfortable situation for him as well, but I was glad he did it. The sooner he started fixing things with us, the better.
That was followed by another moment of thoughtful silence.
"He has changed…" Anita commented as he was out of earshot, "Hasn´t he?"
"…let´s hope it stays that way…" I agreed with a little nod, "Suits him way better…"
POV Miguno
"Man, I wish I had my life sorted out like that…" he sighed, "…I mean…he´s got everything. A solid-staked career, his own flat, a full fridge…the looks, the fame, the body…"
"The body?" I chuckled, checking him out from top to bottom yet once again.
"Yeah…I mean…just look at him…" he grinned, as he noticed I was looking at him for reference, …"don't tell me you don't enjoy seeing him naked when he gets out the bathroom…"
"Yeah…but…you´re not looking too bad either, honestly…" I told him with a little smile, "…with your workout and stuff…"
"Yeah, yeah…" he smirked, "…just saying that to make me feel better. We both know I could never life up to any of that…"
"No…not at all!" I told him, "…why would you think that?"
"Like…don't tell me you´re not going to be a famous musician someday…" he said with a tiny bit of resignation in his voice. "I mean…your band already has 200 thousand views on YouTube!"
"Those are just numbers" I sighed, shaking my head a little while throwing myself onto the couch in the living room, "…doesn´t mean a whole lot these days."
"It does mean something!" he disagreed, grabbing the remote to the giant flat-screen TV and turning it on, "…and I think that performance was freaking awesome! I could never be as cool as you!"
I just shook my head a little, thinking about how to tell him the best way. This was a really good moment for that I figured, so I just went for it, as I was tired of hesitating in the meanwhile.
"You know…I´ve had a crush on you for quite a while…" I told him lowly, and that immediately got his attention, "…and I always admired you for who you are! You´re strong, you´re honest and you´re just as big of a dork as me…I always liked you for who you are."
I looked on the floor for a short moment. Durham turned the TV off again and just stared at me in slight shock. This seemed a little overwhelming to him as well.
"…and I´m really glad you haven´t turned away from me…" I continued bravely, "…you know, because I wrote that song for you and all…"
"Aww" he grinned now, trying hard to lighten up the mood a little, "That was so cute of you…"
"Oh shut up…" I chuckled, wiping a tear out of my eyes.
Then he got a little more serious though. "…no, for real…" he said, taking a really deep breath, beginning to stutter a little "…I´m so glad you think like that too…you know…you´re…more than just a good friend to me too…"
I just went towards him on my knees slowly, as he was kneeling on the couch as well in the meanwhile, and then I hugged him frontally. He hugged me back gently, and I figured this was the perfect opportunity to tell him what Legoshi had proposed earlier.
"…you know…I know all this is a little crazy…and I know you´re not too sure about this either…and I know you´re into girls too… …and I´m a little curious as well to be honest…but I´m really glad you´re here with me right now. This is helping me out so much…"
I noticed how glad he was that we finally talked about this. There was that sort of unspoken thing between us that always made us hesitate a little. He hugged me even a little tighter when I said that and I could actually feel his heartbeat now. I just loved this sometimes a little dumb but always adorable and warm-hearted Coyote.
"Thank you…" he sighed lowly and with a big sigh of relief, "…couldn´t have said it any better…"
His body felt warm and strong and just like all I needed right now.
Now with that giant boulder off my shoulders, I was ready for a really awesome and relaxed evening with my best friend.
"…so you´re still okay with what we´re doing here?" he chuckled, slowly releasing me from the hug again.
" I´m happy with how it is right now…" I affirmed with a slightly dirty little smirk, "…although I´ve only been on the bottom end so far…"
"Talking about which…" he said with a horny grin, taking a short look down his abdomen.
"Not this time" I said with a little grin and a shake of my head, "…today it´s my turn first."
He knew it was my good right to be demanding that by now, but he still wasn´t too sure about it as it seemed. It just left me chuckling a little though. He wouldn't get away with it this time, and he knew that as well.
"You know…when I told you I find it kinda weird…" he began, losing his words already, "…it´s not like I wouldn´t ever want to try it…or not wanting to give you a turn as well… …but…"
"…but?"
"I don't know…" he said with an uneasy smirk.
"Come on…" I told him, resting my chin on his shoulder while hugging him again, "…we´ve got this place all to ourselves tonight. No one will ever know about this, I promise..."
He tilted his head a little bit, noticeable struggling to find more excuses.
"Wanna order some Pizza first, maybe?"
POV Legoshi
It was almost 10pm when I finally arrived back at the Cherryton premises. I closed the door of Skye´s car behind me, took a quick look around and then headed for the dorms straight away.
I wasn´t in too much of a hurry though. The campus was almost completely empty at this time of night and I really enjoyed being all on my own for a moment. It has been a while since I last went across the yard without anyone stopping me for whatever reason.
For this one moment I put aside all the thoughts I´ve had on my mind earlier. I didn´t want to think about traffic laws, indicators, my flat being used as a sex-temple every night, the role I didn´t really want to play in the new drama-club production or my driving test tomorrow. I just wanted to have this moment for myself. I took a few deep breaths, enjoyed the cold night air, and then a very pleasant scent suddenly went into my nose. I knew this smell, and my brain linked it to something I might really enjoy right now. I decided to postpone my desire for sleep a little longer and follow it all the way to its source.
She was just sitting by the fountain, at the exact same spot we´ve met for the very first time. She seemed a little surprised when I took a seat beside her.
"Legoshi!" she greeted me in slight surprise but with a little chuckle, "…where are you coming from all over sudden?"
"I just had my final driving-lessons…"
"Oh…right…Juno told us about it…" she remembered.
"…what are you doing out here?" I wanted to know.
"I…couldn´t sleep."
I nodded understandingly. "Something on your mind?"
That question made her hesitate shortly, and it surprised me a little. As far as I could remember, she had never been hesitating before when she was talking to me. I was used to hear the straight truth from her. That had been another thing I liked about her so much. Unlike me, she was not one to hold back. Not with her feelings, not with anything on her mind. Seeing her hesitate to that question already made me a little nervous somehow.
"…it´s about Sebastian" she said lowly, "…he seems even more…attached…to me since Bill came back today. Didn´t want to leave the garden for almost two hours…"
"Bill´s back?" I asked, actually glad to hear that he finally was released from hospital.
"He came to say sorry when he noticed us in the cafeteria. He still limped a little, but otherwise he seems quite fit."
She didn´t seem too happy about this development, but I wasn´t expecting it to be much different. I was aware that Bill would have a hard time to get accepted by the other students again, but getting to hear it from her right now somehow hit a lot harder than I had imagined it previously.
"…I´m sure he has learned his lesson" I sighed lowly, resting my palms on my knees for some reason. I wasn't quite sure why I had to get defensive about my decision to help him out with that a little here, but I couldn´t really hide it either.
"Well…he genuinely apologized to everyone…" she said with a shrug over her shoulders, "…but Seb was really nervous ever since."
"And you´re not?"
She shook her head to that without any hesitation.
"I never was nervous about you either, was I?" she chuckled.
"Well…" I sighed, shaking my head a little, "…not really."
Our conversation took a little pause here. I just stared at the theatre hall right before us and tried to remember myself what I had in mind of asking her earlier.
"…between you and Sebastian…" I then asked, just saying it out loud as it got to my head, "…I…I mean…is there something going-"
"No" she said, shaking her head quickly, "…nothing serious."
"I…I´ve seen you guys at the concert together…so I thought…"
"I´m not very popular, Legoshi…" she sighed, "…you know that. Sebastian is one of the very few people who really respect me, so I was glad he went to an event like that with me."
That actually was kind of understandable.
"Oh…" I said lowly, not really knowing what to reply to that, "…oh…I´m…I´m sorry."
I rested my elbows on my knees and my head on my palms now, looking onto the ground, not sure if there was anything more I really wanted to talk about. I wasn´t even sure where I wanted to go with that last question.
She now quietly inspected me for a moment, then she suddenly chuckled a little once again.
"Tell me, Legoshi…" she then asked, "Why do you do that?"
"Why do I do…what?"
"On stage you´re like the very definition of self-confidence. The entire school knows about you and your sex-life, the entire school sees you as a hero, you even got voted a Beastar! You saved my life for god´s sake! Why are you still talking to me like I´m worth anything more than you?"
"I…I don't…" I stuttered to that unexpected question, "…I don't know."
She was right about this though: I´ve rarely being struggling for words lately. It was just her I was so nervous around.
"I´m nervous, but why do I still want to be near her?"
She kept on looking at me with that curious little smile. "…and tell me, Legoshi…" she then continued, "…why do you still look like that?"
"Like…that?"
"…like the whole world is just mean to you" she clarified, "…like you´re still not happy with who you are."
That just left me a little dumbfounded for a moment. I immediately wanted to answer something to that this time, telling her that I was happy as it was right now, that she mustn't need to worry about me and that things have changed for the better, but then I actually began thinking about it once again.
"Why couldn't I give her a good answer to that? How does she get me speechless all the time?"
I just couldn't find a good reply to that. None that would come across believable anyway.
"You´re a Beastar now…" she repeated, "…the whole city loves you… …and you still look unhappy. Why is that?"
I just shrugged my shoulders at this point. She had me in a corner there, and she knew it just as well as me.
"…you´re good at pretending, Legoshi…" she sighed, "…but you´re not fooling me into believing you´re happy right now."
"Is it really that obvious to her? Or does she just want to make me believe that? Why would she do that in the first place? She´s not my psychologist!"
"Is there…is there a reason you´re telling me this right now?" I asked, trying not to sound too offended.
That just made her shake her head slowly. She looked at the ground before us tapping one of her feet a little bit.
"Jack seems pretty happy these days…" she then suddenly mentioned out of nowhere.
I just nodded with a shrug of my shoulders, not sure where she wanted to go with that either.
"Juno seems very happy too…" she added, and now I really believed she wanted to mess with me.
"What are you getting at?" I asked with an annoyed sigh, "…is there a reason you-"
"I think you´re caring too much about the people around you and not enough about yourself."
Now I really wanted to disagree with her.
"That´s just not true! I don't…I´m not…I´m…"
"…and that is coming from…you?" I asked, now staring at her in pure disbelief.
"What is that supposed to mean?" she asked in all honesty, "…since when did you see me care about anyone else but myself?"
"W-what?!" I almost yelled in total disbelief, "…you cared about Louis! You care about Sebastian! You cared about me once! How…how could you say that?"
"Being a slut is no help to anybody, Legoshi…" she sighed, "…when will you finally accept it? I´m really nothing more than that."
Hearing that out of her mouth shocked me even more than when others talked about her like that. Now she apparently believed it herself, and that pulled me back to a really dark place in the very moment she said it.
"You´re not a slut!" I told her with an angry growl that came from very deep inside me.
"No?" she asked coldly, "What about me offering you to sleep me the very first day we met?"
"I…I don't know…maybe you were scared of me and thought I would-"
"What about me trying to sleep with Jack?" she immediately interrupted, "What about Bill? Why won´t you understand it already, Legoshi?! What about…"
"Okay stop!" I yelled at her now, just wanting her to stop making it sound worse already, "Just stop!"
"Admit it, Legoshi..."
"Why are you…why are you bringing this up in the first place? …you know I´ve never seen you like that! Why are you doing that to me?"
I was really talking myself into a bit of a rage here, but I just couldn´t help myself. I hated that she still couldn´t worship herself. I hated it so much it made me want to scream at her.
"You can´t change facts, Legoshi!" she still rubbed it in, "No matter how much you-"
I couldn't take this anymore, no matter why she really was going on about this in the end. Without a further comment I just got up and left her sitting there. This was just too much for one day.
Normal POV
To Skye it looked like that, at first, normal talk transformed into a bit of an argument at some point, mostly because of their gestures, but then the tall wolf-boy just left her there with one last angry motion of his hands. He really must have been pissed off by what she said, because he didn't look back one single time and just went for his dormitory building as it looked like.
Watching him going into his dorm or flat was the only reason Skye was still keeping an eye on him from the distance, but now that he had talked to somebody who mysteriously had waited at that fountain for him, her working day would get even longer than it was already.
As soon as the main door fell into its lock after Legoshi entered the main entrance of the building, Skye got out from the bushes she was hiding behind, pulled the dart-pistol from her holster and sneaked towards the rabbit-girl quickly, who was still sitting by the fountain not having moved a single inch from her position.
That was her chance, and she was not hesitating to take it. She aimed at her neck as soon as she got into firing range, took one single shot, and before Haru realized what the sudden whirring-noise and the short sting of pain was coming from, she already felt her body become weak and her consciousness fading away.
The white vixen now quickly put her pistol away again and began running towards the bunny-girl, catching her last second before she would have fallen into the freezing-cold fountain-water with her back.
"I´m sorry, sweetheart" she said lowly, before she quickly carried her towards her car she had parked at the road to the Highschool´s premises.
With a bit of struggle, she soon later had managed to make the sleeping bunny sit upright in her passenger seat and put on the seatbelt for her.
Then she hurried to get in on the other side of the car and drive off before anyone would see her.
POV Jack
"There you are" I greeted him with a chuckle, as he finally joined us in the dorm, "You know how late it is? We have school tomorrow!"
"Uhm…" he sighed, rubbing his forehead, "…yeah."
He looked a little uneasy right now for some reason. More than usual anyway.
"…scared of your driving-test tomorrow?" I wanted to know.
He just shook his head very slightly, apparently not in the mood to tell us more about it.
"He looks like he´s just walked into his flat and forgot who he gave the keys to earlier" Voss commented from the top of his bunk bed with a dirty grin.
Although Collot and I found that really funny to think of, Legoshi just nodded with an ironic little smile, before he threw himself onto his matrass lazily.
"…you know…" I smiled at him proudly, "…Juno told us about the new drama-club piece you´re doing…"
It was just now that the wolf realized I was holding his drama-club script in my paws.
"…and I´ve got to say, they gave you the perfect role once again!" I added teasingly.
He just nodded tiredly, apparently not even wanting it back right now though.
"…she told me you weren´t too jazzed…" I told him, nevertheless with a little smile.
"I would have wanted to do the other one…" he affirmed, "…I don't want to be half-naked on the stage all the time."
"Oh, but the entire school wants that" Collot grinned at him, just as Legoshi actually began getting out of his street closing until he just had his boxers on him for the night.
"Yeah, yeah…" he sighed, tossing his clothes out of the bed and resting his head on the pillow again.
"I find the story really interesting to be honest…" I continued on that earlier topic.
He just ignored it though and took a deep breath.
"Something bothering you?" I asked, getting off my own matrass and coming a little closer towards him. He turned towards me with a little smile, then he shook his head a little. It didn´t seem like he wanted to talk about it. He tried acting over it once again, I immediately noticed when he did that in the meanwhile.
"Come on…" I chuckled lowly, "…you know you can always talk to-"
"…Miguno and his band might be on stage as well in our play…" Legoshi now mentioned suddenly, changing the topic with that rather successfully, "…I already asked him if he wanted to help us making a musical out of it…"
POV Miguno
"What, really?!" he asked excitedly, "…a musical?"
I just nodded with a little smile, turning my head back towards him.
"That´s really awesome man" he told me proudly, "Honestly."
"Yeah…" I sighed, "… but I´m just a little scared you know?"
"Scared of what?" he asked with an amused chuckle, resting his snout on my shoulder from behind, "…you´ve played on the stage before at our school!"
"Yeah…" I said, "…but this is the drama-club we´re talking about. I don't want to mess this up for Legoshi or any of them! …not after all he did for us."
"Come on…" he chuckled in his sweet, caring voice, "…that´s not gonna happen."
I could just listen to him all day long. Having him this close to me just felt right in so many ways, I couldn´t deny it. I just closed my eyes for another moment and enjoyed myself sitting in his lap and leaning myself against his strong chest. I watched his strong arms he put them around my shoulders and pulled me even closer towards him. He really was getting touchy every chance he got, but I still wanted nothing else than being alone with him right now. We shared a kind of emotional connection I just couldn´t achieve with anyone else.
And on top of that, it was not like I didn´t like the physical stuff either, even less because it was so playful all the time. I was really glad Legoshi gave us the keys today. This was just the best form of stress-relief I´ve ever had.
"Wanna get out of the water?" he whispered into my ears from behind after another few minutes of just chilling, "It´s getting kinda cold."
"Yeah…we should hit the sheets soon" I agreed, yawning a little as well, "…gotta get up early tomorrow…"
POV Haru
"Don't worry, honey, this won´t take too long…" she assured, "…you´ll be sleeping in your own bed tonight."
"Oh how kind of you" I sighed dryly, taking another look around in this empty room I suddenly woke up in just a few minutes ago. There really wasn´t anything in here apart from the table we were sitting at and a clock on the wall. It was almost midnight already.
"You seem really calm for getting abducted…" the white vixen in the nicely fitting black suit chuckled in a relaxed manner.
"Not my first time…" I told her with a shrug of my shoulders, actually not really that nervous right now either.
"Really?" she asked in surprise, but still with a somewhat sympathetic little chuckle. I wasn´t quite sure what that vixen was doing here though, she seemed way to friendly for an interrogator.
"…has this something to do with Legoshi?" I wanted to know, "…or are you gonna feed me to a clan of lions?"
"What?!" she chuckled in surprise, then she shook her pretty head, "…no, darling. Nobody is gonna feed you to anyone..."
It took her a short moment to realize, then it seemed to have clicked in her head and she remembered who I was.
"Oh…right, that was you…" she mumbled, before she repeated in her calm voice: "…nobody is going to harm you, I promise!"
Since I didn´t really have another choice, I trusted in her words for now.
"So…what am I doing here? It is about Legoshi, isn´t it?"
"I just need to know what he told you" she affirmed with a little sigh, "…I´ll bring you back to your school right afterwards."
"You know he will be pissed about this if he finds out?" I chuckled, now actually quite amused about my situation, "…he took apart half the Shishigumi last time I got abducted."
"I know" she chuckled light-heartedly, "…but Legoshi knows who I am and nobody is going to hurt you here. I´m just supposed to find out what he´s sharing with his friends. And since you met at that far-off spot in the middle of the night…"
"We met there just by chance" I explained sharply, "I couldn´t sleep and he happened to be coming back from his driving-lessons or something like that…"
That actually seemed to be believable to her.
"Was that all you talked about?" she asked with great interest, but still not in a pushy way.
"He didn´t lose a single word about his Beastars-stuff…" I negated dryly, "…he doesn´t even give a shit about it himself if you ask me. He still feels like he´s a regular student I think…"
She still kept looking at me like she wasn´t totally satisfied with that yet.
"…we just talked about personal things… …I used to date him after he had saved me from the Shishigumi."
She seemed a little surprised about that, but she also seemed to believe me since I was this open about it right away. I just wanted to get this over with as soon as possible, and it seemed to be working out for me.
"…he is quite down to earth about it…" the white vixen agreed with a little nod, "…it´s true, he´s more-humble than the regular Beastars I´ve been working with…"
"The entire school loves him for that…" I added, "…but I still don't think that´s good for him to be honest."
"That´s not for us to decide, sadly" she told me with a shrug of her shoulders, "…but he is a good guy, I can´t disagree with you there."
I didn´t understand that woman´s intent. It seemed like she wanted to be a friend of mine rather than being intimidating. She abducted me like a true-blooded criminal, yet she treated me with total respect and honesty as it seemed.
"Who are you working for?" I asked, testing her limits carefully.
"I´m not allowed to tell you that" she told me with a little smile, coming closer towards me now, "…it´s nothing personal."
She began untying my hands from the strings that tied me to the table and for a short moment I thought about trying to break free. But as she had just been nice to me ever since I woke up again, I figured she really didn't want to harm me.
"What´s your name?" she asked, leaving the opened handcuffs laying on the table before me.
"Haru."
"I do apologize for the hassle I caused you, Haru…" she said in all honesty, "…it just looked like a planned meeting you´ve had with him, and my boss would have killed me if I wouldn´t have tried to find about more…"
"I hope this is not something I have to get used to?"
"No" she waved it off, "I really don't think so."
She signalized me that I was free to head out of the room anytime I liked to and then started moving into that direction herself.
I followed her, still with a bit of hesitation. The hallway we went through was empty as well, the entrance hall of the building by example. This was a really odd place. It felt way too quiet and empty, even for this time of night.
Outside the main entrance we went down a few steps and found ourselves on a street in a part of the city I´ve never been to before.
"I´ll bring you back to Cherryton…" she said in her sweet, friendly voice, "…its only about ten minutes."
As I had no idea how I could get back to school myself, and since she hadn´t threatened me with violence or anything else so far, I decided to trust her with this as well and got in on the passenger-side of the black limousine she had parked at the sidewalk a few steps down the road.
The streets where almost completely empty and we just got stopped by red lights occasionally.
"Soo…" she began, after a few uncomfortable minutes of silence in the car, "…how come a wolf and a rabbit hang out together?"
"He was a loser…" I sighed, "…just like me."
That left her a little confused at first, naturally.
"…back then I liked him because he was honest with me, not trying to hide who he was."
I just noticed how my breath began to feel a little heavy right now. "…he treated me as more than just the slut I really am."
That left her quiet as well. I was aware that the truth could hit hard sometimes. But right now, just in this moment, it felt sort of right to talk to somebody about it. Since she was the one who abducted me, and could have done whatever she wanted to me, I figured I could tell her about something like that as well. I didn´t have anything more left to lose in the end.
"…he really must have felt something for you if he risked his life to save you from a clan of Lions…" she said after a couple moments of silence.
"That´s the thing…" I sighed, "…I don't deserve somebody like him… …but he just wouldn't accept it."
I noticed how she struggled with her choice of words right now. We both knew what she thought, but she was way too polite to say it.
"Legoshi is good at pretending" she then said, and I was a little surprised she´s thinking like that as well, "…he´s really hard to read…and he´s not one who likes to provoke a conflict…"
I nodded in agreement.
"…and that attitude could be…you know…a little problematic for a Beastar."
"What do you mean with ´attitude´?"
"…like…all his predecessors were aware of what they wanted and what they have to do to reach it…" she explained carefully, "…and most of them also were ready to take really high risks and sacrifices to get there…"
I wasn´t quite sure if she knew about the incident that got Louis kicked off the school, but it immediately reminded me of that, naturally. I just remembered that Louis was about to get voted a Beastar as well once, before he suddenly had disappeared for over half a year.
"You mean like Louis?" I asked her boldly, as I felt really comfortable talking with her in the meanwhile.
"Who?" she asked after a very short moment of hesitation.
I immediately had the feeling she knew who I was talking about but wasn´t allowed to talk about it with me.
To get a little more certain of that, I clarified who I meant: "The red-deer who tried poisoning Legoshi with Komodo-Dragon Venom right in our Cafeteria."
Her answer to that was a little hard to believe as well in my opinion: "…I mean…I´ve heard of someone trying to poison him…" she said, as we already came to a halt on the side-walk right next to the gate of the school´s park-area, "…but Legoshi never told me more about that."
It was pretty clear to me that she didn´t want to get further into that topic tonight, so I just nodded with a little shrug of my shoulders.
"Never one to talk much…" I ended that talk with a little smirk, searching for the door-handle.
She clearly knew who Louis was, but she wouldn't talk about him with me. Probably worse for her than for me anyway, I´ve known him a lot longer than her.
"Good night, Haru" she told me with her sympathetic little smile, "…thanks for being so cool about it. Next time I´ll just ask you if I need something."
I nodded with a tired little chuckle, then I got out of the car and closed the door behind me.
Then she already drove off into the night again, just like all of this had never happened. She hadn´t even told me her name.
As I went on my way to the dorms, I began reflecting on what just had happened: I´ve just been abducted once again. But I wasn´t even that mad about it somehow.
"But what was Louis really doing right now?" I kept on asking myself, "Legoshi hadn´t lost a single word about him either."
I haven´t seen him ever since he´d gotten kicked out of the school, and he didn´t make an effort to let me know he was doing alright either.
All this made it really hard for me to believe everything was fine. I just hoped he wasn´t in too much trouble.
POV Louis
"It´s been two fucking weeks!" he yelled angrily, after he stormed into the room with his nephew right on his tail, "What the fuck is that Wolf doing with is Beastars-title!?"
I just sighed deeply, signalizing him to close the door behind them.
I still couldn´t understand what he was so mad about though. Legoshi hadn´t participated in or interrupted any of our business so far. He wasn't even trying to get in touch with us. He never went to the black Market, he never took use of his influence, he never threatened us with anything else, and if anything our operations went even smoother than usual these days.
"Give it some rest already…" I sighed, "…he´s not hurting you in any way, is he?"
"Yeah but he should at least try to!" he complained, now a little calmer, "…all that big talk about his strength and his reputation…I want to see that kid get into some real trouble he can´t just act himself out of like a little pussy."
"Trust me, you don't want him to get involved…" I said, calmly shaking my head, "…he´s got the entire city behind him."
"That wolf is a fucking baby!" he continued aggressively, "…he never wanted to become a Beastar, he never cared about having power or money. He´s really just living in his childish dream world of peace and harmony, don't you get it already? How can even that fourteen-year-old kid see it more clearly than you?" the adult lion asked.
"Yeah!" his brat of a nephew Rokka agreed loudly, "Why don't we fucking kill him already and show them what the real nature of carnivores is? I could easily snap his neck in half!" he yelled, childishly air-boxing and flexing with his rather fat and wobbly than muscular arms, "I´ll show him what revenge looks like!"
"You´re not doing shit, do you get me?" I told him coldly, "…you´re a carnivore, and you´re listening to a red-deer here! Shut the hell up already!"
"Pussy!"
That lion-kid really was getting on my nerves slowly but surely, but not even his uncle tried to stop him. They both were really pissed about it, there was no denying it.
"Be quiet when the adults are talking, kid" I told the young lion, as he really started getting on my nerves in the meanwhile.
"He killed my father!" he yelled loudly, "…how long am I supposed to sit here and do nothing?!"
"Rokka!" I told him by his first name again, now very loud and clearly as well so he would finally shut up, "…your life will be over if you try to mess with him! Your father died because he tried to eat one of his friends! Legoshi would never kill anyone for no reason, but he could if he wanted to!"
I looked him right in the eyes for a long moment. "…so don't give him a reason to kill you, do you understand me?!"
He just crossed his arms stubbornly, still thinking he was a born killing machine.
"Now wait outside and play with your phone or something like that…" I told him coldly, pointing at the door, "…we have to talk about business."
