Stepping back into work wasnt really what she had in mind. Frieda was more than happy to babysit her kid, she was great at it and she was a doctor so she knew what to do if anything went wrong. In a weird way, Jac saw work as respite. It allowed her to just take a moment to breathe and think about anything other than her daughter's tragic start in life. All she had to do now was tell Fletch what had happened and how she kept his kid a secret from him for almost five years. She could literally see inside her head how he would take it and it wouldnt be well. Jac pushed those thoughts aside and got on with her job, of course, that meant working alongside her daughter's dad which she wasnt entirely happy about but needs must so they could actually get a place to live instead of being in a pokey hotel room.
"I've done everything you asked me to do"
"Have you rung the agency to get actual competent nurses?" she looks at Fletch, he rolls his eyes and trudges into his office, she sighs and bites her lip before following him "Look I wanted to apologise for whatever I've done to upset you"
"You actively want to apologise to me?" he looks at her with a sense of disbelief, she frowns "Wherever you've been it really has done you wonders"
"I've been with Elliot"
"Oh really?" he smiles, it interested him and she nods "I bet he enjoyed working alongside you again, a bit like old times"
"Yeah it was nice, and it was in a positive environment" she chuckles slightly, he smiles and nods at her "How have you been?"
"I'd rather not get into that" he chuckles and stands up before sighing "Look...what happened between us-"
"I need to talk to you about that-" she starts before her phone goes off, she frowns and answers "Yes?... What do you mean she's...no bring her in if it's come out and I'll do it...well I'll get someone else to do it then...ok fine, bye"
"Everything ok?"
"I need to go, just...bump my electives" she groans and Fletch frowns slightly, he grabs her wrist and she turns to him
"Has something happened to Emma?" he assumes, she shakes her head and snaps her wrist free from his grip "Jac?"
"Just...do your job"
Jac had a call from Frieda again and met her in the car park, she picked up her crying child and Frieda came along with the bag of medication and Jac immediately took her up to Darwin and placed her on the bed as she noticed her daughter struggling to breathe. Jac hooked her up to monitors but Frieda told her to step away and let her do it knowing Jac couldnt treat her own child. Fletch frowned at the commotion in HDU, he entered and frowned before Jac looked at him before answering her daughter's cries for her so she hugged her the best she could whilst Frieda kept watching the monitor. She asked Fletch to sort out the central line as she couldnt keep watch and do it herself so he did it immediately to help Jac out seeing the distress in her eyes and the tears that were falling.
"We need to do bloods, I reckon an infection" Frieda looks at Jac who nods, she turns her daughter's head away to the other side so she didnt have to look at Fletch doing his bit "Can you do that Fletch?"
"Of course, welcome back by the way" he whispers and begins to take the child's blood
"No!" Eloise screams, Jac hushes her and keeps her in place, "Let go!"
"Look at me" Jac whispers playing with her daughter's hair, she just cries in distress causing Jac to hum to her gently "It's ok, let the doctors help"
"Get those put through the system," Frieda says quietly, Fletch nods and Jac consoles her distraught daughter "I'll go and get changed-"
"Oh for god's sakes" Jac mutters as Henrik enters the ward, he immediately makes his way over to them causing Frieda to wince "Before you start-"
"We need to talk"
"Not right now we dont" Jac states looking down at her daughter who was crying softly into her chest "It can wait"
"Look Mr Hanssen, we need to find out what's going on here and as Jac can't treat her own daughter-"
"She's your daughter?"
"That doesnt matter now!" Jac exclaims "She needs to be checked over, her central line has most likely caused an infection so we need to find out what's happened so please just let us treat her-"
"Fine but my office after" Henrik states with a long sigh "We need to talk"
"Fine, whatever"
She wasnt even nervous if this ended in her being disciplined, all she cared about was making sure her daughter was ok. Fletch hadn't seemed to clock on, she was thankful for that at least, it just hurt her that it now became obvious he didnt want anything to do with her but why should she even be sad at that, after all, they never shared their feelings for each other really they just grieved together in an intimate way and of course, they had to create a child out of that, well a child only she knew. Frieda kept Eloise entertained whilst Jac went down and spoke to Henrik, she was sitting at his desk whilst she waited for him, she was flicking through an album on her phone causing the briefest of smiles on her face of a time when she had Emma and Eloise with her, times where both of her daughters were well, times where they were just happy and could get on with their life. But then it changed, she hated that.
"Look before you start-"
"All I'm going to say is why didnt you tell me?" Henrik starts, Jac sighs and drops her gaze "We could have helped"
"Is everything confidential?"
"You know it is"
"It's been hard ok, my daughter, she's not very well hence the central line but...I'm only here because there's a break in her treatment. Having to have a child who constantly asks who her daddy is...I'm not going to keep her from the truth not when the worst could still happen" Jac whispers and nods gently, Henrik nods at her "I should have told you, I should have but...sometimes it's nice to just forget thats my life away from doing the day job"
"Her dad?"
"I think you know that" Jac closes her eyes, Henrik nods and places his hand on hers "Sacha seemed to think it was a bad idea"
"Thats understandable" Henrik whispers, Jac looks at him "Have you spoken to Mr Fletcher?"
"I've tried but...he's different, he seems like he's not him" Jac shakes her head, Henrik nods "I can't get through to him and he hasn't seemed to click that..."
"He most likely won't unless you tell him, he's been through a lot of personal challenges in the last year" Henrik responds, Jac nods slowly "You'd have to approach this situation with kindness and sensitivity"
"I dont know where to start but I have to start somewhere for my daughter" she shakes her head gently, her eyes filling with tears "I just want everything to go back to the way it was when we were happy"
They spoke for a while longer before Jac headed up to Darwin again. She was told by Fletch, mumbling under his breath, that they moved her kid to paediatrics so she nodded and headed off there to spend some time with her. Her eyes fell to her daughter and Frieda reading a book together so she took over and held her little girl wanting to protect her from everything whilst Frieda explained it was an infection that caused this as her central line became dislodged. She nodded not really caring about that right now, she would deal with the medical stuff later, what was important right now was spending time with her daughter. Eloise fell asleep and Jac sighed and said to Frieda that she was going to get her stuff from Darwin so she headed up there. Jac entered the locker room and picked up her bag, she sighed and was just about to leave after getting changed before she bumped into Fletch who was dressed in his scrubs.
"Hi"
"Hey" he smiles, she drops her gaze and he looks at her "Is your kid alright?"
"Yeah she's fine, Eloise is fine" she confirms, he looks at her and narrows his eyes "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"She's unwell isnt she?"
"Yes" Jac confirms, her eyes fall to look at the floor before she bites her lip "She'll get better though"
"Why are you really back?"
"I just...I dont know" she couldnt admit the truth, he frowns softly "It just felt right, thats all"
"So you drag your sick child halfway aroudn the world because it just felt right?" he challenges her, she didnt know why he was or why he even cared really
"Well no, I'm here for a reason I just..." she trails off, he looks at her confused as she tried to leave, he places a hand on her shoulder to push her back as they werent done talking "What do you want?"
"You're keeping something from me"
"I keep a lot of things from a lot of people, it's nothing personal Adrian" she rolls her eyes before biting her lip "Now are you going to let me go and be with my sick kid?"
"You look well by the way"
"Thanks" she comments swiftly "You do too but I need to go now...also thank you for today, you didnt have to do all of that"
"It's my job" he shrugs "It was nothing personal, you have to remain professional"
"Of course. I need to go" she confirms and looks at him one more time "I'll see you when I see you"
