Seeing the father of her child actually skip work to be with her today was something she was starting to like, a lot. They were sitting together hand in hand, she put her hand in his, and he didnt take hers in case that was pushing it too much but when she took his hand he smiled warmly at her knowing she was nervous about this appointment. Jac knew it would be harder to get pregnant with her age and all of her underlying conditions, she wished it was much simpler but she knew they just had to hope and pray that things happened quickly and that they got it on the first try. After they had finished Fletch suggested they got some lunch, Jac, herself, didnt know why she teased him about the whole thing being a date.
"What do you think people are going to say at work when they find out what we're doing?" she bit her lip, she was worried about that, he offered her a sympathetic smile
"They probably think we're being judge, jury and executioner-"
"Thats a bit far" she comments, he laughs slightly and shakes his head as he eats his sandwich "I just...I worry"
"People are going to have their opinions arent they?" Fletch looks at her, she nods slowly "And the Jac I know will tell them where to shove it. Just think about who we're doing this for"
"Yeah, you're right" she sighs, he nods slowly "I will have to tell Frieda though because she'll know when I am given those drugs"
"Thats fair enough" he confirms "Let's make an agreement not to tell the kids until you're three months?"
"I like that idea" she nods in agreement, he smiles "I was also thinking about telling Sacha-"
"I dont know Jac, I'm not sure"
"He won't tell anyone"
"Ok fine" he agrees, she smiles slightly and nods "Just let me know when and I'll sharpen the pitchforks in case-"
"We're talking about Sacha" she rolls her eyes, he kicks her under the table and she kicks him back "Anyway thanks for this date it was really nice"
"Shut it Naylor" he smirks, she smirks back at him "How was Eloise last night?"
"She was restless and uncomfortable, felt sick so I gave her some anti-nausea meds. She was also breathless which was a worry, I actually thought I would have to take her in at one point"
"You should have called me"
"Fair point but I was just so tired after she settled down and went to sleep in my bed" she whispers, Fletch reaches out and places his hand over hers "It's a tiring life being a super surgeon and a mum to an ill kid"
"We're all here to help"
"I know you are and I'm so grateful for that" she nods, he smiles at her before letting out a breath "I just fell asleep straight after she did then she tugged on my arm when she got up in the morning"
"I'd love her to meet my kids you know"
"I know but we have to be so careful Fletch, so, so careful if we were to go down that route" she shakes her head "And with the way she is right now I dont think its a good idea knowing how susceptible she is to infections"
"I understand" he was saddened by it but he did really understand, she links her fingers through his "We should head off"
"We should" Jac sighs and Fletch goes to pay, she bites her lip and looks at him as he walks off before realising she actually did just hold his hand
"Are you ok?" he notices her stare into space, she pulls herself out of her thoughts and nods "Let's head to the car"
"Okay" she nods and follows him out, she bites her lip before grabbing his wrist and pulling him into her body, she kisses him and he frowns before pulling away
"What are you doing?"
"I just thought..." she trails off, he looks at her completely confused "I'll get a taxi"
"No Jac...just wait," he says, she turns around and bites her lip, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment "I'm sorry but I dont think thats a good idea, at all really"
"Oh right, ok" she nods, she was just agreeing with him "I thought that maybe thats what this was all about, wanting to spend time with me...I just..."
"I want to spend time with you because you're my daughter's mother not because..." he winces at his words, she bites her lip "I just...you have all the answers for me and I like hearing you talk about her, I dont have any memories do I?"
"Oh right" she nods "No thats fine and I'm sorry...for overstepping the mark. Let's just go and see her"
"Yeah, thats probably for the best"
It was awkward when they were around their daughter, she sensed something had happened and Jac couldnt lift the feelings of awkwardness even if she tried. Either way, she was thankful her daughter didnt question the tension between her and Fletch, small mercies and all that. When Fletch left she was sitting on the sofa with Eloise, she had fallen asleep and Jac was thankful she was getting some rest so she got on and did some housework such as washing and wiping the kitchen down with antibacterial. After pottering around for an hour Eloise woke up breathless so Jac tried to calm her down but she knew there was more to it this time, something just wasnt right so Jac's gut instinct came out and she rang an ambulance and they headed into the hospital. It was when they were in the ambulance Eloise started to fit.
"Jac" Sacha frowns and she looks at him before turning her attention to her daughter "Do you need me to ring Fletch?"
"Please" she nods tearfully as she follows the paramedics into Holby
"Mummy" Eloise whimpers after removing her mask, Jac shakes her head gently and places it over her face again "Hurt"
"Where do you hurt sweetheart?" Jac asks looking at her, Eloise immediately grabs her stomach "Alright, they'll give you something"
"You doctor" Eloise mumbles as Jac holds the mask over her face "Give"
"No sweetheart, I'm not allowed" Jac whispers, Eloise just bursts into tears causing Jac to hush her gently as the paramedics moved her onto a bed, she turns and notices Fletch standing there with a sad expression so she steps out of the room "She was breathless, now she's in pain"
"What if she..." he looks at her, Jac turns to look at her daughter knowing that every symptom she had was getting worse
"I dont know" Jac shakes her head, "I really dont know"
"She's going to need us" Fletch whispers, Jac nods and turns to her daughter again "Now more than ever"
"I dont want to lose her, Fletch" Jac couldnt stop the tears filling her eyes if she tried, he hushed her and brought her in for a hug, she wrapped her arms around him and cried silently into his neck "I can't lose her"
There was a sense of relief when that awkwardness from before lifted, all they could do was focus on their daughter, making sure she was safe and as well as she could be. Jac headed home using Fletch's car, she branded him useless at packing a bag for her and her child so she did it whilst he looked after Eloise. When she got back she smiled at them both curled up on the bed together, they were watching some movie and Jac smiled slightly as she looked at them both just engrossed in each other's company. Eloise clocked her mother a while later, she immediately patted the bed beside her so Jac rolled her eyes and sat down with her and Fletch on the bed, she put her arm around her daughter and rested her head on top of hers whilst Fletch smiled at them both. It wasnt long before Eloise fell asleep so Fletch turned his phone off causing Jac to close her eyes as well. He didnt know what came over him but he pressed his lips against Jac's head, she smiled to herself and didnt kick up a fuss, he just wanted to keep them safe now, both of them. A consultant came around, it was someone Jac didnt know but she didnt have the energy to complain. Either way, it wasnt good news, they wanted to give Eloise a blood transfusion so Jac would have to watch her daughter sit through this thing she didnt deserve to go through, it hurt.
"She's going to be fine" Fletch places his hands on her arms, he collects her hands in his "We'll be there to help her"
"I'm tired Fletch" she looks at him in the eyes, he nods and brings her in for a hug "I'm tired of all of this, I'm tired of fighting and I know she is too...when is enough...enough?"
"When we can't do anymore," he says into her head, she wipes her eyes and looks at him "We're going to be ok? We are and she's going to get better-"
"Please dont say that"
"We have to think positively Jac"
"I'm drained, it's like I dont know...how to anymore" she whispers, he holds her close and brushes his fingers through her hair "I'm so tired and confused, I just want...answers and we're not getting them, I want definitives not predictions..."
"I know it's frustrating but this might help her feel a little bit better inside and out," he says into her head "We just have to keep ploughing on through, we just have to hold on in there because if we dont we all break dont we?"
"I dont want to lose her"
"I know you dont and me and you...we're going to do everything we can to make sure that doesnt happen" he whispers and presses his lips to her forehead, she closes her eyes before allowing him to hug her again "We're going to be ok"
"How do you know?"
"Because I'm here now and because I'm here you can lean on me, both you and Eloise. We're going to be fine Jac, we are and...its going to be ok"
