They managed to keep them sleeping in the same bed a secret for two weeks now, with Fletch waking up early or Jac kicking him out early so he could sneak back into his own bed. All she needed was Eloise spreading it to Frieda that mummy and daddy were having sleepovers as she would never hear the end of it. It was the nights that were draining, the different injections but they were almost there, in touching distance of the finish line with a scan booked for today to make sure everything was progressing nicely. She was nervous, he could sense that as well as tired so he ran around after Eloise for the morning so she could just have some time on her own. Sacha was going to be babysitting for the first time so Jac was also nervous about that but she was thankful to have the support around her.
"Right are you two going to be good?" Jac looks at her daughter who smirks at Sacha, she could tell she was going to do exactly the same as Emma does with her Uncle Sacha "Well be good"
"Why can't I come with you?"
"Me and daddy are going to speak to a doctor about you" she lies, "You wouldnt like it sweetheart"
"Fine" Eloise sighs and looks at Sacha who smiles sadly at her "Bye mummy, bye daddy"
"Bye baby" Jac walks over to kiss her on the head before picking up the folder on the side, she passes it to Fletch who smiles at her "Let's go"
He had his hand on her leg, she had hers on top of it as she flicked through the folder continuously throughout the journey. When they got into the clinic Jac just said she felt off, as if something would go wrong but Fletch assured her that it wouldnt, all they were here was for a scan so he told her nothing would go wrong unless the outcome wasnt what they expected. Jac undressed and Fletch held her hand before she let out a sigh and closed her eyes, he was surprised that she felt grossed out by what the doctor was doing. Jac looked at the screen and looked at the doctor who refused to give any information away before stopping and leaving her to get changed. The doctor came back in and revealed it wasnt the best news and that it would be unlikely they would get a lot of eggs from her due to her age and other complications and that left them both feeling deflated.
"Come here" Fletch whispers and she hugs him, her eyes close and he just hushes her "We need to decide what to do"
"I want to continue" she confirms, he looks at her sadly and nods "If I continue will you support me? I have to do something Fletch...I have to"
"I will support you," he says quietly, she closes her eyes and presses her face into his chest "I just dont want it to affect you if it fails"
"If it doesnt work, it doesnt work" she whispers "But I have to try Fletch, I have to try for our daughter"
"If you want to try then I'll be there, for you both" he nods, she nods at him before she pulled away "I'm here...I'm not going anywhere"
They got the doctor back in and explained they wanted to continue, there was support at least. Jac was still upset when they left the clinic, he could tell she was trying to push the emotion down so he sent a text off to Sacha saying they would be a bit late as he wanted Jac to have some time to come to terms with everything so he took her to a local park and hooked his arm through hers as they walked around the lake that was in the middle of it. Her eyes caught all the play equipment causing him to side and place his hands on her arms realising how stupid he was for bringing her here so he pressed his lips against her head and guided her away from the situation in front of her.
"Here" he whispers as they sit on the bench, she rests her head on his shoulder "Sorry about bringing you here-"
"It's ok, it's not the fact I probably won't be able to get pregnant that upsets me it's just the fact that all those children have endless amounts of energy whilst our daughter is fighting for her life it's all just..."
"Upsetting?"
"That and it makes you realise how short life is" she whispers, he nods sadly and holds her close "Sorry, it's kind of turned into the Jac Naylor pity party. Are you ok?"
"I'm fine" he confirms, she offers a small smile and nods "We should get back soon"
"Just five more minutes?" she looks at him, he smiles and runs his fingers through her hair
"Let's make it ten"
When they got home Eloise launched herself into her father's arms and he held her on his hip whilst Jac spoke to Sacha. He left a while later and Jac sat on the sofa with Eloise, her daughter falling asleep against her body, Jac's hand holding one of the smaller hands of her daughter. Jac looked at Fletch and he passed her a coffee, she smiled and took it thankful that it was warming her up after being in the park earlier. Both of them held their daughter, Fletch's arm around both of them and Jac's head resting on the side of her daughter's head, she smiled at Fletch's fingers running through her hair. Their eyes met and she smiled weakly at him before kissing Eloise on the head. He gently picked his daughter up and took her up to bed, he placed her under the covers whilst Jac bent down beside her and looked at her, he placed his hand on her shoulder before she got up and let out a few tears.
"I feel so useless" she shakes her head, he nods slowly "I just feel like I'm not helping her at all because I'm really not am I?"
"You are helping her...you're helping her by being her mum" he places his hand on her arms, she closes her eyes and shakes her head "She just wants you Jac, she wants us"
"I want to give her the world but the world doesnt want to give her life...how is that fair?"
"None of this is fair Jac" he whispers and cups her cheek, she drops her gaze and pushes his hand away "None of it but our little girl, she's going to need us...she is and thats going to be hard for all of us, it's going to be hard on you, me, Emma and even the kids even though they haven't met her but whatever's to come I'm going to be there for you and Eloise"
"I just want my baby back" she shakes her head as the tears fall down her face "I just want her back, I need her back, I need her to be well so she can have the life she deserves...what if she leaves us Fletch?"
"Then we break" he whispers, she nods "And we grieve and I'll wrap my arms around you and tell you that everything will be ok and that the pain will get better and one day you will find happiness and she will be in here," he says pointing to her heart "She will be in here and she will be safe, you're going to keep her safe whatever happens"
"I just dont want to let her down"
"You're not going to let her down, you love her so much and there's no way you will let her down Jac...no way" he shakes his head, she bites her lip "You're going to do this, you're going to be amazing and she is going to love you throughout all of it, be in awe of you, thank you every day for fighting for her life"
"I just dont want it to all be for nothing"
"Remember what you said to her?" he whispers and rubs her arms, he brings her in for a hug and presses his lips against her head "The hardest things happen to the strongest people"
"I just dont want the hardest things to become too hard for her, she's only small and doesnt deserve that"
"We're going to be there for her me and you" he sways her gently in his arms, she nods against his chest "Then all of this sadness and pain will fall away..."
