Several men ran away from the open bunker door, as it slammed shut from above, disturbing the dust that had been there for years, only further kicked up as it was pushed by the running soldiers. The room flashed constantly, a rotating red light spinning from the ceiling, broadcasting a loud alarm which only added to the melancholy of bootsteps.
"They found us- how the hell did they find us!"
One soldier grabbed his gun, as another ran over, panic in his eyes.
"What the hell are you doing man?! You think your going to fight them?!"
"And what else do we do?!" He slapped a mag into the weapon, and cocked back the receiver, it slapped backwards, and the weapon glew a bright yellow, light coursing through several lines embedded along the hull and barrel. It hummed softly, with a rising pitch. "Do you plan to run further in?! Box us in more?!" He slung the weapon across his back. "I'm staying and fighting, you-"
Interrupting him, something massive hit the outside of the bunker, slightly denting the metal and temporarily taking out the power. Only a second later it came back on, joining with it the alarms and spinning lights. It didn't do much to stop the other men, who continued running away.
The slamming continued, growing louder, faster, and denting the metal more.
And it was glowing more red with each impact.
"We're going to die, we're all going to be killed here." He unslung the gun, and held it in an armed position, his finger on the trigger, turning the safety off with his thumb. "I'm not gonna die running-"
The doors flew open, shrouding the exit in more dust. Each door flew back, hitting the back of the walls and sliding down, taking out some of the soldiers and shaking the facility. As the air cleared, it was finally revealed what was on the other side. A being, nearly as tall as the entrance itself, walked through. It was clothed in pure fire, shaped vaguely like a huge suit of battle armor. The two soldiers could feel the air growing warmer around them.
"Actually- you know what? Fuck. This. Lets go-" Cutting him off, a javelin made from pure fire impaled the soldier. He screamed out in pain, letting his weapon fall down, and only stopped by the strap. His skin and clothes melted, and he was killed nearly instantly. Moving towards the other at impossible speed, the armor left a trail of fire as it grabbed the other soldier.
He yelled out, the hand reducing his skin, organs, and bones to a liquid. He screamed for only about three seconds before passing out, very soon after succumbing to his wounds.
The armor stared on as it turned its head upwards, dropping the corpse. Several of the remaining soldiers rounded the corners of various doors, disappearing from sight. The only sound remaining was the crackling of the fiery armor, and constant rising and lowering tone of the alarm.
"Your turn, Hourglass." A voice called out, obscured and distorted by the flaming helmet.
"Go into full lockdown!"
"We're already IN full lockdown!" The man in a labcoat holding a clipboard yelled. "It doesn't matter, I told you this would happen, we should have-" A bullet impacted his forehead, spouting out a stream of blood as he fell to the ground. The woman in a suit held up her gun, smoke from the barrel trailing upwards. She holstered it, as two other scientists watched on, sweat falling down their foreheads.
"Get back to work, they will be here any minute!"
"I already am." A male voice came from behind her. She instinctively reached for her gun, pulling it out and spinning around, aiming at the source.
She saw a figure, a man wearing a generic camo combat suit with a large tank of gas strapped to his back. He had black hair, and wore a set of goggles obscuring his eyes. He held up a guns magazine, dangling it with a smirk.
"This yours?"
She grinned. "I still have one… in the chamber!" She honed her aim, and fired.
The gun clicked. And no shot came out. She held the barrel upwards, examining the gun in a panic.
The man in front of her sighed.
"You know, after all these years, you think I would remember to take those out…" He was no longer holding the mag, which was on the ground. He held out and tossed down a single bullet, the casing still on it. It bounced along the ground before sliding to a halt. "I guess I'm getting sloppy."
Her tone shifted to that of desperation, as she realized she had been beaten so effortlessly. "What do you want, money? Power? Technology? All are yours, just-"
Blood spurt out from her neck, freaking out the other labcoated men.
The figure didn't move an inch, or shift his position.
"I want justice." He said out loud.
She crumbled to the ground, holding her neck, failing to stop any of the blood coming out. She fell down to her knees, falling into a fetal position. Movement ceased soon after that. He looked around towards the labcoated men.
"Get down on the ground unless you want the same to happen to you."
They all went wide eyed, and complied. A stream of soldiers streamed in from all directions, coming from every door along the raised ground surrounding the control room.
"Don't move!"
"We have you surrounded!"
"You killed her!"
He smirked, holding his hands outwards. His knife holster was stained with a bit of blood.
"Right then, guess you'll just have to kill me!"
The soldiers didn't hesitate for a second, and opened fire.
After 2 seconds of continuous fire, they stopped, and there was no one standing there. The only thing remaining was a black slash, indicating the focused fire of bullets.
Stomping was heard coming from across the facility. "Shit, he's here! Get-" The same flamed figure slammed right through one of the larger doors, to the response of every soldier firing at it. It tore through them all, not reacting to any of the bullets, as they sizzled to nothingness after impacting. After half the soldiers lost their lives, their burned, melted bodies fuzed to the floors, the rest began running.
But as they saw open doors in front of them.
The doors closed, seemingly instantly.
The soldiers attempted to get them open, quickly getting more and more desperate as they didn't open. Smashing them with the ends of their barrels. They yelled out, smashing the door hard enough to break their guns, before moving to hitting it with their boots. The flaming figure only got closer and closer, until the very heat moving radiating from it melted their skin off. They screamed out, silenced by their own lungs filling with smoke and burning air.
The armor didn't take long to walk around the room, killing every soldier inside. It looked around.
"Control room clear."
It walked towards the door it came from, leaving a trail of flames that spread across the corpses.
The armor stepped outside the bunker, stepping over the damaged door. It was a sunny day out, with the ambient sound of the forest nearly drowned out by the crackling armor, but still audible. It was a nice day, especially considering what just happened.
She soothed her nerves, taking a deep breath.
And the flames around her died down.
Inside the hulking mass of fire was a woman, wearing a white tank top and cargo pants. Her hair was a bright red, brighter than the fires that once surrounded her. Her skin was pristine, seemingly unharmed by the armor.
The same combat suit wearing person from earlier appeared near her, from nowhere, something she had grown used to weeks ago.
"Jeez, don't you think that was too much?"
"We had orders. I feel you would understand that, Hourglass."
He sighed. "Orders yeah, but c'mon Day, watching those soldier's faces melting off had to do something, right?"
She growled slightly, glaring towards him. "Stop calling me Day. It's Daybreak, say it in full."
"And you don't hear me complaining when you call me just Hourglass…"
He heard a voice in his ear, and raised his finger to an earpiece. "Broken Hourglass! Recovery team en route, ETA in 30 seconds! Confirm that the site is clear!"
Hourglass stared over towards Daybreak, his expression changing to something a lot more formal. She nodded in response.
"Bunker is clear. Konya is dead, body located in the main control room. All soldiers burned by my partner, as per usual."
"Confirmed."
From above him, he heard the incoming sounds of helicopters, traveling extremely quickly. They halted in the air near instantly, and hovered down to the ground, disturbing the grass around them and drawing out any semblance of calm. Various men in military outfits ran out, yelling orders while men in suits and sunglasses followed them, one of them branching out as they calmly walked towards Hourglass and Daybreak. "Another successful mission?" he asked.
"Looks like it." Answered hourglass.
He nodded in acknowledgement. "Fantastic, news from command and details on the cleanup should take a few hours, until then…" He clapped, rubbing together his hands. "Tokyo is a…" He spun around, before pointing out in a random direction. "About three miles that way, how about we go out for some drinks! To celebrate another mission. I know this great place over in-"
He was cut off, a huge figure landed across from them, staggering the man in the suit, while the other two didn't react, aside from turning to face him. Daybreak lit on fire, surrounding herself in an opaque, but this time smaller, armor made from fire. Hourglass continued with his slack stance, arms in his pockets.
"Everything will be alright…" The smoke from the impact fell down, revealing a massive man, grinning, his muscles spanning for what seemed like miles. His blond hair formed two 'horns' over the top of his head, while his bright red outfit made him obvious. "Because I am here!"
Hourglass was the first to acknowledge him. He held out his finger towards him, and looked over to his suited comrade. "Who is-"
"All Might, number one hero in Japan." He took off his sunglasses. "And supposed to be somewhere else."
The smile on All Might's face vanished, his tone instantly changed. "So that was you, the fake tip."
The suited man held out a leather wallet, letting gravity unfold it to reveal a card, with a globe logo behind the text.
"Agent Henry Porter, UN." He gave All Might the wallet, which he looked over. "These are agents Daniel Weston and Samantha Fields, codenamed 'Broken Hourglass' and 'Daybreak' respectively." He pointed towards both of them in sequence. "One can stop time, and the other can make weapons out of fire."
Hourglass hastily looked at him. "You're just gonna tell him our names like that?!"
All Might handed back the wallet, still frowning. "Work in this industry requires trust. We trust All Might, and telling him your secret identities will help build that." He put the wallet in his suit pocket.
All Might looked towards the bunker. "So what happened here?"
"Classified, I'm afraid." Said Porter. "Classified enough to have the UN send one of its black ops hero units."
All Might narrowed his gaze back to them. "Broken Hourglass and Daybreak? Stopping time is a powerful quirk, one I've never heard about until now. If these two were heroes, I feel like I would know about them."
"That's what black ops means, doesn't it? Secret, need to know, something we don't want the public aware of." Porter sighed. "And honestly, you're a liability, All Might. You do a lot to inspire the people, you're the symbol of hope! You singlehandedly brought Japan out of a period ruled by those with quirks, and feared by those without them." He looked to the side. "But that's the thing, you're too popular. Tales of your work get spread, documented, no matter how secretive you try to be. For work like this, work where the lives of millions could be at stake…" Porter directed attention towards the bunker. A group of hazmat wearing men carefully carried out a set of what appeared to be bombs.
Each one had a yellow nuclear symbol on them.
"We need to work in secrecy." He put back on the sunglasses. "But that's enough talk about work, it's done! The nuclear ordnance is now safely in UN hands, where it will be dismantled and studied, so we can figure out where this plutonium came from. How about we all go out for drinks! I'm sure someone like you has stories to tell."
"Stories…" All Might broke his serious tone. "Stories, right! I know a great place, I'll show you the way!" With a mighty leap he cratered the ground, flattening nearby grass as he soared through the air and over the horizon.
Porter sighed again. "Back in the helicopter I guess…"
"Hmph. Too slow." With that, Hourglass instantly disappeared, not even giving an indication on what direction he went. One moment he was there, and the next he was gone.
Porter looked over to Daybreak, who was still in her fire armor. "Just us then?"
Daybreak started walking past him, not even looking back as she talked. Her armor sizzled out of existence. "I'm heading back to base. Where I'll be awaiting new orders." She stopped. "Because someone has to." With those foreboding words, she continued.
One final time, Porter sighed, before turning around. "Find a place to land in tokyo!" he yelled towards the pilot of one helicopter. "Preferably not far from… a rental car place or something."
He boarded the helicopter, and they took off.
