Chapter 10: Meet The Invisibles

To Clem's great relief, the rest of the journey passed by uneventfully. Before too long Pete gave the word to them and they sat, strapped in and waiting as they came out of hyperspace not too far from the planet. Clem could see from this distance that like Brun it was a grassy planet, but it was obviously larger and as they drew even closer there seemed to be evidence of civilization of some kind. Soon they were within the atmosphere and Clem couldn't help but gasp.

"I know." Sarah said with a smile. "Beautiful, isn't it."

The place was full of grassy plains, rock formations that broke up the area, but it was still a stunning sight to behold. The buildings seemed to actually be built into the rocks themselves and seemed to accommodate nature as much as progress.

"This is Valunt, where we Invisibles stay and were we strike forth from." Carlos explained. "The Force here is quite strong."

Clementine nodded. "I can feel it already...It should be safe to continue Sarah's training here."

Carlos frowned. "Wouldn't Nyx-?"

"She could try. But with this much energy, especially from the Light Side of the Force...she'd be unable to pick up anything definite. It's likely why the Empire hasn't come looking for this planet; they don't see anything of value here, it's just a place full of Force Energy to them." Clementine replied."

"So, she wouldn't be able to detect Sarah like last time...or you." Carlos noted. "Well, that's good. For now however, you need to meet our leaders."

Clementine bit her lip, this was something she wasn't so sure about.

Reaching what looked, from the surface to be an open pit, the Eclipse descended into an underground hanger, the blast doors for which closed above them once they landed and everything was switched off. They all disembarked and Clem looked around, there were a few people moving around, dealing with various tasks. The Invisibles weren't a large group, that was for sure, but there were enough of them to handle most of the logistics of their base. She spotted two people approaching them. One looked to be mid thirties, bald with brown stubble and brown eyes, fair skinned and, Clem noticed, eyeing her lightsaber with suspicion. The other was fair skinned, early to mid forties with buzzed black hair and blue eyes.

"So, you're back." He said. "I um-"

He looked uneasily at Francine who just shook her head. "Anything for us, Max?"

Max shrugged. "New code came in, I'll get to work deciphering it and see if it leads anywhere."

The other man looked over at Clementine. "So, you're the Jedi…"

"Um, well…" She began.

"Kindly do not start with all your talk of weapons and such Eli." Javi said. "We've had a long and difficult journey, we need to talk to the bosses."

Eli grunted but nodded and they pressed onwards, Javi turned to Gabe and Clem.

"That was Max and Eli, Max was once an Imperial...hence why he was worried about Francine." He explained.

Francine smirked. "I trusted your nephew, Javier. I need to start being nice to Max after all he's done for us."

Javi laughed and continued. "He helps us by intercepting and deciphering Imperial codes, something he's an expert on. Eli is our weapons and communications expert, who has a bit of a bias towards blasters, hence why he was pretty sceptical seeing your lightsaber, Clem."

"I...I see." Clem replied.

Gabe bit his lip nervously, the idea of seeing the leaders of the Invisibles clearly worried him as much as it did Clementine.

As they walked onwards it soon became clear that everybody else was needed elsewhere, as such it would be Carlos and Javi alone who would be introducing Clem and Gabe to the leaders. They were actually impressed with how the Invisibles operated and Clem admitted, keeping the majority of their operation underground was a smart plan. They had just reached a large set of double doors when another man approached them. He was tall and broad shouldered with long brown hair and a beard, brown eyes and a warm smile on his face, appearing to be late thirties to early forties.

"Ah, my friends, welcome back." He said.

"Paul." Carlos greeted him. "Clementine, Gabriel, this is Paul Monroe."

He greeted them in a friendly manner, but his eyes widened upon seeing Clementine.

"Ah...a Jedi Padawan, I'm glad we found someone with skill in the Force." He said with a knowing smile.

Clem started. "Wait, how do you know that?"

"Carlos and his men weren't the only Invisibles sent to Crunus. I was there and managed to...bring back some guests, my colleagues had to leave after dropping us off though." Paul told her. "As for how I knew you were a Padawan...it's in your bearing, not quite so...poised as a full-fledged Jedi, if you take my meaning."

"Paul here is our strongest fighter, although he prefers diplomacy and empathy." Javi explained. "He can't use the Force but he has great respect and belief in it."

Paul nodded. "Hence I deeply respect those who are gifted in its use."

Carlos managed a thin smile. "I'm sorry to cut this short, we must speak with the bosses."

Paul nodded and stepped aside, allowing them to enter the room behind the double doors.

Clem looked around, it appeared to be some kind of meeting room and there, on the other side of a large circular table, sat three people. The first was a tall fair skinned man in his mid to late thirties with blonde hair and a beard that looked vaguely familiar to Clem, from the time before the Purge. So too did the dark skinned bald man with blue eyes who sat next to him. A younger woman, in her late twenties with tanned skin, brown hair and brown eyes sat at the table too, the third and final leader, Clementine guessed.

"Ah, you've made it back, good." The blonde man said, sounding relieved. "We were worried when Paul returned but you didn't."

Carlos explained. "We stopped over in Brun on the way, got caught up in a dogfight with TIE fighters."

The dark skinned man quirked an eyebrow. "I see...and who's the young Imperial, a hostage?"

Gabe blushed, he was still wearing his Imperial uniform after all, which of course gave him away instantly.

Javi stepped up. "No, my nephew, who has betrayed the Empire for us. Without him we would've been destroyed by those TIE Fighters, they had much stronger armour than expected."

"Well, that's one way to get reunited." The dark skinned man said with a short laugh.

Gabe eased slightly, hearing that and the woman nodded.

"Don't worry, we'll get you some new clothes so people won't look at you and judge so quickly in future." She told him.

Then all eyes turned to Clementine.

The blonde man smiled.

"So...You're the Jedi?" He asked. "The name's Tripp."

Clementine gasped. "Wait, I remember you...you were on the Senate, before…"

"Yes, before the Empire, I left right after that, now I'm doing what I can to bring the Jedi and Republic back...to stop the Emperor." He confirmed. "Conrad here is helping me out, as he did back on the senate too."

The dark skinned man nodded while the woman spoke up.

"I'm Eleanor, it's nice to meet you, um…?"

"Clementine." Clem introduced herself.

Tripp smiled wider. "Ah...Lee Everett's Padawan. Sorry I didn't recognize you."

"It was five years ago, I've...grown since then." Clem replied. "Although, I'm not sure-"

"Clementine, listen, as you've probably been told, we need your help." Tripp said quickly. "I believe there is something important, something here on Valunt, something that could help us in our fight against the Imperials...but to get it, to even utilize it, we need a Jedi."

"You, what?" Clem stammered.

This was far more than she expected, she was beginning to feel overwhelmed, this was already beyond her, she had never finished her training after all.

"You must have seen it, when you arrived. The Jedi Shrine?" Conrad then asked.

Clementine nodded; she had seen it in the distance, a spired rock building, the only one above ground, she had felt the Force emanating from it.

"What we need is in there, but only someone strong in the Force can open it." Eleanor explained. "Whatever is inside, it's important and it's waiting, for this person to put it to use. We're sure of it."

"That's why we need you, Clementine." Tripp finished. "We need you so that we can finally start to bring back the Jedi and the Republic."

Clem just remained frozen, something which worried everyone watching.

Finally, she just couldn't take it anymore.

"You...you're asking me, to do this...I've been brought here, to what, lead some sort of great Jedi revival. I can't do that, I'm not...I can't train Jedi, my own training was never even finished!" She burst out. "Now you're trying to put this on me!"

"Clementine, I-" Carlos began to try and explained.

But she was done listening, she turned and simply hurried out the room, ignoring everyone and everything around her as she ran, desperate to just be alone. It wasn't until she stopped, now out in the open, on the surface of the planet, looking over the beautiful grass plains that she began to feel ashamed of her outburst, her actions. She took a deep breath, trying to clam herself, to feel the Force around her and let the serenity fill her and quiet her concerns. Then she heard it, the voice calling her name.

"Clementine!"

Clem started and turned around, it was an impossible voice, a voice she was sure she wouldn't hear again.
