Chapter 17: Battle of Ientor Part 3

Javi grimaced and shook his head.

"David, you actually-"

David glowered. "Shut up Javi, don't think you can talk your way out of this, you're a disgrace to the family and-"

"I'm not the one mistreating my wife and daughter." Javi cut in.

"What did you say, don't you DARE accuse me of-!"

"What do you call this?!" Javi shot back. "Mari imprisoned, Kate imprisoned, Who knows what's happening to them and you're letting it happen."

David narrowed his eyes, snarling as he stepped closer to Javi, Javi moved just enough that David didn't see what had just happened.

"We all have to make sacrifices Javi, for the glory of the Empire. An Empire you betrayed, a FAMILY you betrayed when you turned against us." David snapped.

Javi shook his head. "I stand for what's right, David, not to serve some dictator who got too much power and didn't want to let it go."

"Now you insult the Emperor, you fool." David warned him. "You are just making this worse for yourself."

By now their positions had reversed, now David was standing with his back to the cell and Javi, his back to the door.

"So this was the big plan, the big trap. Offer up your wife and daughter on a silver platter to be taken prisoner and likely tortured or abused by the other Imperials just so you could take out your bitterness against me." Javi countered. "I expected better."

To his shock, David didn't deny anything, or get angry, in fact, he laughed.

Trying to recover quickly, Gabe rolled out of the way just in time to avoid another blow from the riot baton. Reaching his feet he saw the Stormtrooper as he readied the baton for another strike.

"You'll pay for this, traitor!" The trooper yelled.

Gabe grimaced, he had been expecting this, but it still didn't make it any easier to deal with. The trooper swung at Gabe, who quickly dodged. He could see his blaster, knocked out of his hands when he was hit, but the trooper seemed aware of this and was doing everything he could to keep Gabe away from it. Gabe ducked only to flinch upon hearing Kate screamed as the torture continued. He tried to hurry towards the console instead, but was blocked.

"I don't think so." The trooper cried. "DIE!"

He lunged and Gabe dodged, only narrowly avoiding the blow, but not the follow up which left him with a sharp pain along his side as he stumbled and fell. But then an idea came to him.

"You'll, you'll never beat me like that, it's pathetic." He said, his voice steady and calm.

Enraged by this, as well as startled the trooper lashed out wildly and Gabe dodged, relief flooding him as his plan worked. Kate's screams subsided to be replaced with heavy breathing, the electrical panels fell back, the console had been destroyed, overloading the machine and shorting it out. Now he just had to deal with this trooper and he could save Kate.

Javi couldn't help but be confused by David's laughter.

Finally however David composed himself enough to speak.

"You fool, this was never about you, you were just part of a problem that needed to be dealt with." He explained. "You and Gabe...the real trap is for your little Jedi friend."

Javi glowered. "So that's it, you went along with this to kill your son because he didn't want to become a soulless killer for no good cause."

The anger was back and Javi geared himself up for more shouting, but it never came. For at that moment David grunted and collapsed from the blow he had received from behind. As they had changed their positions, Javi had managed to cut the power to the cell door allowing Mari to get out and she had now knocked David out.

"Mari!"

She smiled, rushing to him and hugging him. "Uncle Javi, I...I'm just so glad you're safe, but...Kate…"

"I know, I know where she is, let's go, Gabe should've saved her by now." He told her.

"Gabe!?" Mari gasped. "He's here?"

Javi nodded and instantly she grinned. Javi readied his blaster and together they hurried away from the prisoner block. Once out they immediately began making their way back down the corridor towards the turbolift and began taking the opposite corridor, to where Kate was being held.

Hurrying onwards Javi noted what sounded like a struggle and he quickened his pace, Mari tried to match him.

"Uncle Javi?"

"Someone's fighting, c'mon!" He cried.

They hurried onwards, entering the room just as a blaster went off. The stormtrooper fell down dead, leaving a startled and horrified looking Gabe standing there.

"I...I…" He stammered, clearly horrified at having taken a life.

"Gabe!" Javi cried as he approached him. "Hey, look at me."

Gabe trembled but tore his gaze away, looking at him.

"You had to do it, I know it's hard but please, keep it together for now, let's get Kate and get out of here." He told him.

Gabe nodded and they hurried to help Mari get Kate removed from the restraints and helped her up.

"Javi, you...you made it...Gabe…" She gasped, eyes wide.

Javi quickly supported her. "Easy, just take it easy, we're getting out of here, we can talk more once we're safe."

So it was that they hurried as quickly as they could, with Javi supported the unsteady Kate, back to the turbolift.

Meanwhile, up in orbit around Ientor Paul steered the Dauntless around, keeping the Impulse locked on with his scanners, so even if he lost visual, he'd still have knowledge of its movements.

Noting its current moves he quickly gave word. "Tripp, they're trying to move in again, going for another orbital bombardment."

"Understood, let's push her back once more, hit hard this time, we can't take any chances." Tripp replied.

"Copy that."

They quickly moved, determined to ensure that the Impulse's attempt would fail. On the Impulse, Lilly was fuming.

"I don't care what Nyx says, they will not make a mockery of me, destroy them!" She yelled.

"Commander!" One of her aides yelled. "They're coming in again!"

Lilly fumed. "This is beyond a joke, why haven't you destroyed them yet!"

Before an adequate explanation could be given, the entire ship rocked from the force of two heavy attacks from the two ships. Worse an alarm began to sound as Lilly lifted herself back up she grimaced.

"Commander, shields are down!"

"I know!" She screamed. "Urgh, pull back, we can't get close to the planet, I see their game now. We're taking them down from a distance, get back and focus fire on those ships!"

They did so, inadvertently playing into the Invisibles hands. While not a quick as smaller ships such as fighters and such, the Dauntless and Liberty were quicker than the Impulse and still possessed just enough speed to avoid it's usual laser fire. They simply had to keep the game of cat and mouse going on for as long as possible, buying their people on the surface enough time.

Grimacing Ruby gently moved her shoulder now that Aasim had finished patching her up.

"There, does it…?" He asked gently.

She smiled. "No, it's fine now. Doesn't hurt anymore, good work."

"You shouldn't have done that." He protested. "You got hurt, put yourself in danger, for what?"

"I saved you." Ruby shot back.

He shook his head. "Yeah but, it wasn't worth getting yourself hurt over…Why would you-?"

"Aasim." She cut him off with a small smile. "For someone so smart, you can be very dense at times."

With that she pulled him in and their lips met, Aasim's eyes widening before closing, deepening the kiss. When they finally parted both were blushing as he bit his lip.

"I-"

"When we get back to Valunt, we'll talk." She said firmly. "So let's make sure we survive this."

Aasim nodded in agreement and they both took up position, resuming firing as their distraction continued to work.

Still being pressured by both her attackers, Clem deflected their attacks and then leapt back, trying to make some space. Nyx suddenly grabbed her with the Force, causing Clem to choke as she was held off the ground, her throat being crushed.

"Kill her!" Nyx cried.

Nyx's ally closed in, Clem tried desperately to draw breath, to keep her vision from clouding and she acted quickly to deflect the attempted attack from Nyx's ally before using her own Force Powers to push Nyx back, knocking her off her feet and Clem gasped and coughed, trying to draw breath again now that she could.

"Not this time." She hissed, rolling back.

This turned out to be the right move as the ally struck where Clem had been, instead striking the floor of the shrine. Acting in desperation, Clem struck out with her lightsaber and heard a feminine cry from the ally. But her strike was true as the ally stumbled back and fell to the ground, head down as the scarred helmet flew away and skidded across the floor. Taking advantage of this moment, Nyx charged in and Clem took her chance, knocked Nyx's unstable blade aside and repeating the strike. Nyx screamed in anger but recovered quicker than her ally. Standing back up Clem was startled to see Nyx's face, she was younger than Clem thought. She only appeared to be a couple of years older than Clem herself with short red hair, shaved on one side, a small scar above her right eyebrow and burning green eyes that blazed with hatred bore into Clem, standing out more with the young woman's pale skin.

"Who…?" She gasped.

But then something unexpected happened.

She heard a voice, a voice she should not have heard on that planet.

"Minerva!?"

It was Tenn, he had just entered the shrine.

"What, Tenn, what are you-?" Clementine started.

But then Nyx, now revealed to be Minerva, the very same Minerva Violet had told her about Clem was sure, turned to Tenn and Clem remembered that she was meant to be his older sister, adopted but still.

"Tenn, so you're still alive…" She remarked. "Well, that's a problem."

"Tenn, get back, you're not supposed to be here!" Clementine cried as she raised her lightsaber.

Tenn shook his head. "That's not...Minerva, what are you doing?"

Minerva merely smirked. "Whatever Lord Vader bids of me, he helped clear my sight, now I know the true power of the Force."

"You mean you were corrupted by the Dark Side." Clementine hissed.

"No, I was awoken to the truth." Minerva snapped. "Just like her, after you abandoned her to die on Crunus to protect your own sorry skin."

Clem's gaze turned back to Minerva's ally and her heart dropped as she saw them standing there, their face in full sight. She shook her head, unable to believe it.

"Violet."
