Chapter 19: Renewed Purpose
On the Eclipse as it travelled with the others through hyperspace, things were rather subdued. Sarah was silently helping her father treat Kate for her wounds, well aware that he was angry with her for disobeying him and coming to Ientor. Right now however their focus was on treating Kate. The remaining Garcia family waited outside the medical bay, concerned. The others that were mostly subdued were the Ericsons crew, from the revelations of what had occurred at the shrine, particularly the shocking revelation that the terrifying Nyx they had feared all this time was in fact one of Tenn's missing sisters, Minerva. That the other, Sophie, was dead and, the biggest gut punch of all, Violet was working with Minerva, with the Empire.
"I still can't believe it, Violet…" Brody whispered.
Clementine shook her head. "She has been twisted by the Dark Side, she could the Force like I could; we all have to be careful of our emotions or we end up swept up by it. She mentioned she had a past connection to Minerva, that they were close."
"So, you think, Minerva toyed with her emotions, to, to turn her?" Louis asked.
"It's possible, she is upset that I abandoned her." Clem confirmed. "Minerva likely exaggerated the details and tried to use that and their past feelings for each other to pull Violet into the Dark Side."
"But then, how could Minerva have fallen…?" Tenn began, biting his lip. "She has the same powers, Sophie is dead...how could this all-?"
Clementine sighed. "I don't know Tenn, but one thing I'm sure of, it has a lot to do with the Empire...as for who exactly; I'm not sure I can say."
Nobody pushed her on that, seeing Clem shiver and the way she looked away, it was clear she was too scared to talk about it.
Things remained quiet as they finally finished their journey and emerged from hyperspace at Valunt, coming in to land, they were clearly expected as Eleanor and several others waited for them. They all quickly emerged to the joy of their allies.
"Alright, alright, hold on a minute, Eleanor, could you help Carlos, we've got some wounded that need taking care of." Tripp said.
Eleanor nodded. "Of course, I take the mission was a success?"
Tripp nodded and directed her attention to Kate and Ruby who were taken to the main medical bay in Valunt with Eleanor and Carlos. Javi, Gabe, Mari and Aasim all accompanying them. With so many of those present happy at the successful mission Clem nodded to the others, indicating they needed to wait until a better time to share their problems. With their quiet agreement Clementine turned to Tripp.
"Well, I found what was inside, a Jedi Holocron." She explained.
She pulled it out and showed it to Tripp.
Tripp gasped. "This is...do you think the shrine here too-?"
"It's possible, but I wonder…" Clementine thought to herself.
Biting her lip, she focused on the Holocron with the Force and opened it. Staring at the data and readings revealed Clementine gasped.
"Clementine?"
"Tripp this is…" She whispered. "These are Jedi teachings and, other things are here too, but I can't quite make them out...If there is a similar Holocron in the shrine here then…"
Her eyes widened at this and then she felt it; she could see it now. She saw how things could work out, a new purpose filled her, she knew that now there was a real chance, a chance that she could help the Invisibles after all.
A short while later, Clementine found who she was looking for and cringed.
"Dad, I just…" Sarah tried to reason.
Carlos shook his head. "Sarah, I told you to stay here, you endangered yourself, you-"
"I was just trying to help." Sarah protested.
"You should not have-"
"Carlos." Clementine interrupted. "Without Sarah the mission would have failed, I would be dead. If it wasn't for her, we wouldn't be back here celebrating our success."
He turned to Clementine, grimacing. "I…"
"I'm afraid that, what you asked of me, it's no longer going to be enough." She began to explain.
"What are you-?"
"Ah, there you are." A female voice cut in.
They all turned to see a woman in her late thirties approaching, she was above medium height with light brown skin, curly brown hair and brown eyes. By her side was a boy of five, with similar hair style and colour, the same eyes and slightly darker skin.
"Rebecca, what-" Carlos began.
The woman, Rebecca, explained. "I was looking for...Clementine was it?"
Clem nodded. "Yeah, um, can I help you?"
"I hope so...this is my son, Alvin Jr." She explained, introducing the boy. "I heard what you were doing for Sarah and...my son will need the same help."
It was at that moment Alvin Jr. spoke up himself. "I, I can do things that my father could do...the Force, I think that's what it was called."
Clementine nodded, aware now of what was being asked and realizing the seriousness of the situation.
After a pause she asked.
"Your father was a Jedi?" She asked.
He nodded. "Yeah."
Rebecca then explained. "Alvin, a member of the Jedi Council, until he left, with me."
Clementine nodded. "I remember him, he was a good man, cared for everybody."
"He was." Rebecca said with a small smile.
Clementine sighed. "Well, I understand why you're asking me this, but as I was about to say to Carlos...things have changed with what I've found and what I've discovered."
"What do you mean?" Sarah asked, confused.
Clementine sighed. "Just teaching them to hide their Force Presence won't be enough to protect them anymore, I need to finish my training and train them to become Jedi too...That's what's inside these Holocrons, the one we found and the one in that shrine here."
"I, but that's…" Carlos stammered.
But then Rebecca spoke up. "This is dangerous...but I feel I can trust you so...I agree. Understand AJ, Clementine is going to be teaching you how to be a Jedi, like your father was."
AJ nodded and Carlos finally sighed, noting Sarah's expression.
"I can see I'll be outnumbered here. Alright then." He agreed at last.
Clementine nodded, everything was set, there was one more thing to do, so she prepared herself as she began to make her way to the shrine.
