Chapter 21: Mysteries
Within the underground facilities of Valunt, Clementine sat, deep in thought as she pondered the two Jedi Holocrons sitting on the table before her. Ever since finding them there had been a definite change in atmosphere within the Invisibles, They were making preparations, working to make sure they had everything they need, in all, becoming far more capable of handling any threat they'd face.
'By no means are these plans foolproof, nothing is infallible, but they're doing their utmost to ensure numbers are the Empire's only real advantage.' Clementine reflected. 'I know I've been doing what I can…'
She had learned much from the teachings within the Holocrons, her skills had improved and she had managed to work out a much more fluid and unpredictable style of fighting, she also noting a subtle change in how she felt the Force, it seemed stronger, almost as if her sensitivity to it had increased.
She bit her lip at that. 'It's like a part of me was asleep, and I've just woke it up…'
She wasn't the only one learning from the Holocrons however, she had to admit she was impressed with how far Sarah and AJ had come along with mastering their Force capabilities. AJ especially seemed a natural, a prodigy even. After all that had happened, Clem was cautiously hopeful that things would turn out alright for the three of them. However, those thoughts were clouded over with another issue.
No matter how hard she tried, Clementine couldn't get the image out of her head of Violet working with Minerva and Vader's Fist. She knew with certainty that Minerva must have used the former relationship she had with Violet to twist things and force Violet into rage and into the Dark Side and the corruption took hold from there.
'But it's not too late, it can't be too late…I can still save Violet, I know I can.' Clementine found herself desperately thinking.
She knew of course that she had to try and clear her mind of thinking like that, these thoughts were coming from her own feelings for Violet.
"...em, Clem?"
She started out of her thoughts and saw Sarah standing there.
"Are you alright?"
Clem nodded. "Yeah, sorry Sarah. I was just, thinking."
Sitting down Sarah looked at the Holocrons. "Have you figured out anything else from them, about…About that riddle? When four and four meet, the true one will be shown?" Sarah asked.
Clementine nodded. "Yes, it sounds like there's eight Holocrons and they lead to something, but what?"
She and Sarah both knew all they really had to go on was that riddle, the coordinates that they had seen and what Tripp had told them, having heard a legend that long ago, eight Holocrons were hidden away, as when used together at a specific location they would awaken one of the ancient Sith super-weapons. But Clementine couldn't help but feel like something was missing, as if she was overlooking something that was staring her in the face.
It was a simple point of contention, but one which still bugged her greatly.
"I still don't understand, how it's possible to hide eight Jedi Holocrons across the galaxy and nobody had found any of them before now." She remarked.
Sarah shrugged. "Well, the galaxy is a big place, Clem."
It was then AJ, who had been listening in spoke up. "What if...what if they're not all Jedi Holocrons. Didn't you say the Sith had them as well?"
"Well, yeah but…" Clem began, but stopped herself, eyes wide. "That might actually be it AJ. Four Jedi Holocrons, four Sith Holocrons...that actually makes sense. In fact, I think I know that legend...There was indeed a Sith Super-weapon, but the Jedi managed to stop the Sith using it. They captured four Sith Holocrons and, in a touch of irony, used them and four Jedi Holocrons to seal the weapon away before scattering the Holocrons. They put secrets in each one, the coordinates, but made sure that the Jedi Holocrons only led to the other Jedi Holocrons, likewise with the Sith ones. Also, to be doubly sure that the weapon would stay sealed, the location of it, could only be found with all eight."
"So, that must be why they're after the Jedi Holocrons." AJ mused. "Maybe they already have all four of the Sith ones?"
Clem nodded. "It's a strong possibility I'll admit."
"We need to talk to the others about this, especially Tripp." Sarah remarked. "He's called a meeting, I think we're planning our next move, if he hears what we have to say, that might change it, so we better hurry."
Clementine agreed and so she stood up and, with AJ and Sarah, secured the Holocrons in a safe place before leaving the room and beginning to make their way to the meeting room. Just before Clem left the room however she stopped, feeling something, she looked back into the room, but nothing was there.
"Clem?"
She turned to AJ and shook her head. "It's nothing, just, thought I felt something there."
So they left, the door closing behind them while Clem, despite her words, couldn't shake the strange feeling she had about what she had felt. Some presence, as if someone was there, someone only she could feel.
As they were making their way to the meeting, Clementine noticed someone and remembered something important.
"Guys, go on ahead, I'll join you at the meeting room."
"Um...okay…?" Sarah replied.
Although confused they continued onwards, while Clem hurried over to who she had seen.
"Shel, hold on a moment!" She called.
The smuggler turned to face Clementine, smiling lightly. "What is it?"
"I need your help...I was hoping you could find...certain materials for me." Clementine explained. "It's not like we have any here and we can't just go and get some with the Empire around."
Shel quirked an eyebrow. "Well, that doesn't mean Becca and I can't 'acquire' some, what is it you need?"
Clementine pulled a list from her pocket and handed it to Shel who read it, nodding slowly.
"Ah, interesting...okay this does complicate things a bit." Shel admitted. "Luckily I have some friends in the business who can help, we should be able to get nearly all of these, but...I don't see how we're gonna find Kyber Crystals, synthetic or otherwise."
"It was a worth a shot, if you can find the rest though, that's a great start." Clementine replied.
Shel nodded and Clem turned and hurried onwards, heading for the meeting room, it was clear that it was indeed time to make their next move.
