Chapter 23: Regrouping
Meanwhile, within the confines of space, the flagship of Vader's Fist, the Impulse was currently stationary, awaiting its next move. Repairs were being made and their recovery from the battle of Ientor was making steady progress. In the midst of all this, the leaders of the group all sat around the council table, at the head of the table sat Tarkin.
"So...unfortunately despite the trap you set, you still failed to destroy this rebel group or recover the treasure from the shrine upon Ientor?" He summarised.
Lily glowered. "You seem to forget, sir, they had a Jedi with them."
"That is no excuse for the failure of your ship to carry out its task." David interjected. "Also don't we have two people capable of fighting Jedi right here?"
He glared pointedly at Minerva and Violet who said nothing.
"In case you forgot their ships kept firing at me and preventing me from getting anywhere near the planet." Lily snapped. "Besides, let's not forgot that you failed your mission, Garcia-"
"And unlike you, Commander, Admiral Garcia made a full report and acceptance of his failures." Tarkin cut in. "So I would refrain from trying to pass blame unless you want to find yourself replaced."
That was enough to shut Lily up.
After a pause Tarkin turned his attention to Minerva and Violet.
"Putting failures aside for the moment, what was in the shrine?" He queried.
Minerva was the one who answered. "A Jedi Holocron...the moment I saw it I realized what was going on."
"As I understand it, Vader's Fist is supposed to be seeking such objects, although for what reason old relics are of interest-" Tarkin replied.
"They're of interest when they are the key to a very powerful weapon that will spell disaster for anyone who dares challenge us." Minerva explained.
"A weapon?" Lily wondered.
Minerva nodded. "An Ancient Sith Super-Weapon, it was sealed away and can only be found and unlocked with all the relevant Jedi and Sith Holocrons. It has enough power to destroy any sentient life form at almost any distance. The only limits being the number of times it can be used. It must then be left dormant until it is fully operational again."
"How do you know all this?" David asked.
"We were informed by Lord Vader of course." Minerva explained.
Violet nodded and then added. "Our enemies have at least one Holocron...but if we can find the others we'll have the advantage."
Tarkin nodded, listening carefully, taking this all in. Lily sat listening, still silently fuming about the 'insults' she had been subjected to.
Finally, after a slight pause, Minerva continued.
"There are four Jedi Holocrons to be found, the device also needs four Sith Holocrons to be found and function. Luckily we already have those." She explained.
That caught Lily's attention. "We do?"
"Yes." Minerva confirmed. "The Emperor has them in his possession back in the Imperial Palace."
That startled everybody present. It was not long however before David recovered and glared.
"I'm sorry, but this sounds a little too...fantastical." He remarked. "Do you honestly expect us to believe this nonsense about some all powerful weapon. And-"
"You have bigger problems than what you believe or not, Admiral Garcia." Tarkin interjected. "Such as dealing with your traitorous family. You're loyalties remember are being questioned and while you made account for your failures, you still have to rectify them."
David grimaced at that, but bowed his head. "Yes sir."
Silenced by this David made no more comments, and Lily took her chance to speak up.
"These Sith Holocrons, if we could have possession of them, then we'd just need to acquire the Jedi ones then we could claim this new weapon for the Empire." She remarked. "Should we lodge a formal request with the Emperor, to see if he'll let us have them?"
"Yes, I think we should. That is something that will likely work to our advantage." Tarkin agreed.
Minerva stood. "Well, in that case, we best do so quickly, once they arrive we should have made a full recovery and be ready to make our next move. But until then…?"
"Until then, you are all on standby." Tarkin remarked firmly. "Do not forget that."
They all nodded, although for Minerva, it left her restless, she was burning to avenge the humiliation Clementine had inflicted upon her.
After another brief pause Tarkin stood too.
"Very well then, I believe that is everything for now. When we are ready to begin again, I will expect results." He told them. "Meeting adjourned."
They all stood and began to leave the room, before Violet could leave however she paused, looking back over her shoulder.
'That's strange, what was that...some sort of...presence, like someone or something watching me…?' She wondered.
There was nobody else in the room however, Violet couldn't help but be confused by that.
"Violet!" Minerva snapped.
Violet turned sharply, broken out of her thoughts. "Y-yes?"
"What are you waiting for?" Minerva demanded. "Get moving now."
With that she seized Violet's arm and practically dragged her from the room.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
