Chapter 24: Intercept
Emerging from hyperspace at the coordinates they had intercepted from the Imperial message Max had decoded, the Eclipse and the Dauntless hovered, side by side, as those within the ships took stock of their positions and surroundings.
"Pretty desolate part of space." Paul remarked. "Not picking up any life supporting planets nearby."
Pete replied calmly. "Well, we knew we were going somewhere that wasn't part of a commercial trade route and this supply ship is without an escort, must be some sort of secret."
"Question is, what kind of secret?" Nick queried.
Paul sighed. "We don't have the facilities or manpower to figure that out, let's just do what we came to do and take these supplies for ourselves."
"Right, speaking of, there we are, right on cue." Pete added.
For indeed, at that moment the Imperial class four container transport came into view.
"Moving slowly...more than usual, must be a lot or rather sensitive cargo." Paul noted. "Then again, we did agree it had some secret destination, clearly trying to just stay under the radar so to speak."
"We'll worry about that later." Clem said over the communicator. "It's time to begin, we need to disable the engines."
"Not to mention jam its transmissions." Paul agreed. "I'll get started."
So it was they went to put their plan into action.
They quickly closed in and, once they were sure the cargo ship was aware of their presence they acted. A few expert hits from the Eclipse's laser cannons, aimed with expert precision by Javi and the ship stalled, engines disabled while Paul moved the Dauntless into position while running the jamming signal to prevent it sending any transmissions. At the same time the Eclipse also moved into position and they soon had the transport firmly held in place and the Eclipse was even able to dock with the ship.
"Alright, time to do your stuff." Pete remarked.
The others agreed and got ready, while Pete and Carlos hung back with the Eclipse, Clem, Javi, Gabe, Nick, Francine and Brody who had joined the crew all readied weapons and made their way out onto the transport. Even though they were clearly waiting for them, the Imperials onboard the ship were still caught off guard as they found themselves held at blaster point.
"Alright, let's not make this harder than it has to be." Javi remarked, giving off a calm and collected air.
One of the crew members growled. "Rebels, you really think you can-"
"We don't want a massacre do we?" Francine countered. "So let's keep it nice and polite, drop the blasters and surrender. Do bear in mind if anything happens to us, we'll cut out losses and see this ship never reaches its destination, so…"
The message was precise and clear, surrender or destruction. Half the crew readily surrendered at the moment, while the rest only did so when they saw Clementine and noted the lightsaber she was holding. Realizing they were dealing with a Jedi they instantly panicked and any thoughts of fighting back went out of their heads.
"Alright, we've rounded them all up, Francine's keeping them locked in one of the empty store rooms." Gabe said at last.
"We'll need to search for stragglers." Nick remarked. "That wasn't enough to fully crew a ship like this."
"Agreed." Javi commented. "Let's get to it, once we've done that, we'll start loading up the cargo."
Paul's voice them came over the communicator. "We'll be able to help you with that, get it done quicker, the sooner we deal with this, the better."
"Don't worry, we'll find any of the crew that hid themselves, I know it." Clem remarked calmly.
Brody quirked an eyebrow. "You're very confident Clem?"
Clem just smirked. "The Force will guide us."
With that they began their search.
Working together with Brody Clem made her way towards the rear of the ship, where the she had a feeling the most important cargo would be held. Sure enough, she found what she expected to find, three of the crew members, the exact number missing for the minimum requirement to work the ship properly. All at once when they were found they went for their blasters, Brody raised hers in response.
"That's enough, no closer!" The lead of the trio yelled. "We'll shoot."
But Clem did not ignite her lightsaber, or even remove it from her belt. Instead she held up her hands in a placating gesture, then casually moved the right one in a wave motion.
She then spoke, her voice perfectly calm. "You don't want to that."
The effect was immediate and, to Brody, startling, as one the trio of Imperials lowered their blasters and the lead mumbled.
"We don't want to do this."
"You'll put the blasters down and surrender." Clem continued.
Sure enough he spoke again. "We'll put the blasters down and surrender."
They then did so and they were able to finally scour the ship and ensure there was no one else before securing the captive crew in the largest store room under Francine's guard while they immediately got to work, loading the cargo onto their ships.
As they worked Brody couldn't help but wonder.
"Clem, how on earth did you do that?" She asked.
Before Clem could reply, Gabe looked up from where he was working nearby.
"Do what?" He asked.
"She just, waved her hand at those guys, told them to surrender and they did." Brody explained. "Even put down their weapons when she told them...and repeated what she said to them."
Clem laughed softly and shook her head. "The Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded. It's a mind trick, can be used to make a suggestion that those affected are compelled to follow, usually to the users advantage, in this case, to avoid bloodshed."
They both looked impressed by this and shared a look, clearly wondering.
"No...It won't work on trying to resolve our fight with Vader's Fist, they're some of the best, trained to resist tricks like this and as for Minerva and Violet, they'd easily brush it off." Clem explained, before they could even ask.
Their disappointment showed but then, suddenly, a new problem emerged.
"Guys quick!" Paul yelled over the communicator. "We've got trouble, TIE fighters just showed up out of nowhere!"
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
