Chapter 25: Old Friends

Finally emerging from hyperspace, Shel smiled as she piloted her ship towards the planet dead ahead of them. Seeing it Becca became nervous.

"Shel, are you sure this is right?" She asked.

Shel nodded. "Of course, trust, they'll be here."

"That's not what I'm worried about." Becca muttered. "Why Volar of all places."

Shaking her head Shel continued to steer the ship down into the atmosphere and, after a brief flight over the surface, found a landing zone.

"This is the right place too." She remarked as they landed. "That was lucky."

Becca sighed. "If you say so."

Readying themselves the sisters emerged from their ship and into the hanger. One of the alien officials in charge of the hanger bays approached them and spoke in his own language, rather demandingly.

Shel smirked. "We won't be here for long, a few hours at most. Here."

She tossed him a small bag which clinked as he caught it. After weighing it in his hand he seemed satisfied and made his way onwards, continuing his rounds.

"Guess that was authorization enough for him." Becca remarked.

Shel just nodded and led the way as they left the hanger, Becca kept one hand on her blaster as she looked around the large town area they were in, a curious mix of buildings that seemed to have melded with the surrounding forest and nature. But for all it's pretty appearances, Becca knew Volar was far from safe.

Aside from the typical dangers one would expect from a planet with vicious flora and fauna, there was also the human and alien inhabitants to worry about. Despite its more hospitable climate, Volar was just as lawless as Tatooine or anywhere in Hutt Space for that matter, the only difference was the Hutts didn't control Volar. If anything that made it even more dangerous, there was no chance of settling a dispute peacefully by threatening to bring the Hutts into the dispute to protect you, not on Volar.

'Just about every scumbag who wanted to escape the Hutts and forge their own life of crime and debauchery comes here...then there are those who simply want to lay low, like our friends.' Becca mused.

She was jolted out of her thoughts by Shel.

"Becca." She said. "In here."

Becca swallowed nervously and followed Shel inside, worried that Shel just wasn't taking this seriously enough, she seemed too relaxed, especially as they were about to enter what was clearly a cantina or tavern, a hotbed of the sorts of people Becca had been thinking about. Still, not wanting Shel to go it alone, Becca squared her shoulders and followed her inside.

It was noisy, as was to be expected, full of people talking amongst themselves in groups, either seated around tables, or standing near the large bar at one end of the large room. All of them looking shifty, a few glanced Shel and Becca's way, their leers unsettling. But Shel ignored all that and simply led Becca through to a table near the back where she sat down.

"Well hey guys, long time no see."

All four people at the table started but then they saw her.

"Oh my...Shel?" A twenty something red headed blue eyed woman gasped upon seeing her.

The other three, all male, grinned widely. Becca allowed herself to relax slightly as she sat down, smiling at Bonnie, the woman who had greeted Shel.

Bonnie saw her and smiled back. "Becca, you're here too."

Nodding Becca smiled wider, greeting the three males, nineteen year old Russell, a dark skinned black haired brown eyed young man. Then there was a tan skinned man in his late twenties to mid-thirties, messy brown hair with heavy stubble and brown eyes, Vince. Then finally, Wyatt, also in his late twenties to early thirties, he was slightly heavier in build than the other two with long dirty blonde hair, a full beard and blue eyes, fair skinned. All of them had been talking quietly but happily together, so that boded well, they weren't in any trouble at least.

After a moment for fresh drinks to arrive for them all, Wyatt spoke up.

"So, what brings you ladies to a dive like this?"

Shel smiled. "Well, actually, we were looking for you guys."

"Us?" Bonnie asked.

"We're helping a group…" Becca began, then lowered her voice. "Rebels against the Empire, they're paying us to bring them supplies and materials."

Vince nodded. "Makes sense; we've helped out a group like that not too long ago. But why come to us?"

Shel explained. "We got a...special order, we need a number of things that, well, they're not exactly easy to come by...but I happen to know you guys have just what we need."

"So you want to trade, or have us help this group too, is that it?" Russell asked carefully.

"That's about the size of it, what we're looking at here however is big...big pay out for all of us if it goes well." Shel explained.

Russell sighed. "I can see why that would appeal to you guys."

He looked pointed at Shel and Becca, with an amused smirk but then shrugged.

"Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm down to help out."

"Count me in too." Bonnie said quickly.

Wyatt nodded. "Me too."

Vince paused for a moment, considering, scratching his chin.

Finally he asked. "You're sure this rebel group is worth the effort, that they will be true to their word?"

"I have no reason to doubt them." Shel said. "I've worked with them before and they've always delivered so long as I have."

"Then I'm in." Vince agreed, smiling.

"So, we're all going to Valunt?" Shel asked.

They nodded and raised their glasses before drinking and Shel was glad things had gone well. That was until she leaned back in her seat and felt the blaster against the back of her head.
