Chapter 27: Old Enemies

Shel swallowed nervously, Becca had frozen too, worse, Shel saw the look on Becca's face and realized that whoever was doing this was familiar to her. The rest of her friends had gone rigid too. Then came a voice from behind her, the one holding the blaster, a thick accented voice that she instantly recognized.

"Fancy meeting you here, Shel, how fortunate for us." He said.

Shel grimaced. "Arvo?"

It was indeed Arvo, a tall slightly built young man with medium length dark brown hair, blue eyes and fair skin. Shel knew that if Aro was there, then three other people would be present too, no doubt armed which was why her friends were remaining rigid. Those three people would be Arvo's fellow bounty hunters. First his sister, Natasha, a young woman in her twenties with long dirty blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin. The others were their compatriots and frequent companions; Buricko and Vitali. Buricko a tall muscle bound monster of a man with face tattoos, grey eyes and bald and finally Vitali, thinner and with short brown hair, a small goatee and brown eyes. All four of the infamous bounty hunter team were present and holding them hostage, Shel couldn't believe this had happened. Despite her best efforts to remain calm and thus pass under the radar, she had been found by this group. But what made it stranger, she had looked around as she made her way here and there had been no sign of them, they couldn't have already been here waiting for them. But this didn't feel like just chance.

Trying to remain calm, Shel quickly signalled Becca and the rest of the group with her eyes. They all returned the signal and Shel kept her voice steady.

"What are you doing here?" She queried neutrally.

Arvo scoffed. "I just told you, we're here for you. Well, you and your sister…"

Becca scowled. "Keep that filthy look off your face, creep."

Shel knew Arvo, was clearly leering at her sister. But she sent Becca s sharp look to stay calm.

"We can do this the easy way of the hard way." Natasha cut in. "You're better off just surrendering and coming with us right away. You'll be coming regardless-"

"You're so sure of that?"

Natasha laughed. "Like I said, if you know what's good for you. We'll be getting a lot of money for both of you, thanks to the price on your heads."

That caught Shel and Becca's attention, it seemed the bounty placed on them had risen if it had attracted the attention of these four.

"So, we're even more valuable now." Shel quipped.

"Oh yes indeed. Old Bill has put a very handsome sum for both of you, alive too for some reason...Well, he insists on Becca here being alive." Arvo continued. "You, Shel, not so much."

Shel allowed anger to flicker over her features at that. "I can imagine why."

It was no secret that William Carver, or Old Bill as Arvo called him, a notorious crime lord who could be considered a professional rival to the Hutts with all the enterprises he controlled, had rather questionable tastes which made his desire for twenty year old Becca to be delivered alive under any circumstances while Shel, being notably older, was welcomed to be delivered dead or alive.

Shel caught Vince's eye and it was clear he was ready, all they needed to do was act.

"So, ready to surrender now?" Natasha taunted.

Shel laughed. "Not a chance, we've...got other plans. Bye."

With that she shielded her eyes, as did everyone else at the table as Vince threw his drink over the light at the middle on the table, resulting in a blinding flash. The four bounty hunters cried out, temporarily blinded. Now was their chance. Swiftly Shel and Becca hurried through the now raucous crowd, their smuggler friends following close behind.

"We'll get to our ships, take off." Wyatt said.

Russell nodded. "We'll meet you guys there, Valunt right?"

Shel nodded and quickly gave them the coordinates as they managed to escape the tavern. They wouldn't have long now, the blinding effect would have faded already. So they all rushed to their respective ships at the various hangers and, ignoring the shouts and other disgruntled people present, all boarded and swiftly began taking off. Shel grimaced as she spotted Arvo and his crew rushing towards them, but then they were taking off, leaving them behind and before long they were in hyperspace, heading back to Valunt.

"That was just…" Becca burst out. "Urgh, those creeps, they, they actually came after us, they found us. I don't get it, how-"

"I know exactly why." Shel said darkly. "Only someone who knew we were going there, what we were going to do could have tipped them off."

"Wait, you don't mean?"

"I do." Shel replied. "There's a traitor in the Invisibles and they exposed us...and now we've got bounty hunters and Carver and his goons after us...this just got a lot more dangerous."

Becca bit her lip. "So, what do we do?"

"We made a deal and everything that's happened, this is too big to just walk away Becca." Shel insisted.

"I had a feeling you'd say that." Becca said with a shrug. "Let's get back to Valunt...talk to Clementine at least, we can trust her surely."

Shel agreed Clementine was their best bet at finding out who the traitor was. Then they'd just need to figure out a way to pay off their debts, before something terrible happened involving those bounty hunters.
