Chapter 31: Infiltration of Ostoth part 1
Everything was tense as the crew of the Eclipse, with Gabe and Brody now official members and Louis taking Francine's place on board, crossed through hyperspace, heading for Ostoth. They wouldn't be alone, Shel, Becca and their friends were also travelling for the same destination. They knew of course that their main objective was to find the Holocron on the planet, but although they had no confirmation just yet, they were certain the Empire would be there. So they were hoping to find a way to get on the planet without being seen and to rely on stealth to not only find the Holocron but to sabotage whatever the Imperials were doing on the planet.
"I thought you required Sarah's help?" Clementine said suddenly to Carlos. "Doesn't she work alongside you on this ship as the medic?"
Carlos sighed. "That was before. I can handle it on my own."
"Still no reason to exclude her, you know-" Clementine continued.
"Sarah is staying on Valunt and that's it." Carlos snapped. "She is not ready, you're still training her, she's in enough danger-"
"I've noticed that, a trend with you." Clementine replied coolly.
Carlos tensed. "Excuse me?"
"You are far too overprotective of Sarah." Clementine remarked. "You are sheltering her far too much. How do you expect her to survive on her own, especially if something happens to you."
Carlos turned to her sharply, but before they could say anything Javier cut in.
"Hey, both of you, enough, focus. We're almost there, we need to be ready for anything."
They both nodded and Carlos began to walk away.
Clementine shook her head but said nothing else, at least until Javi spoke to her.
"Clementine, I understand what you are saying, I agree with you. But this isn't the best time for it." He remarked. "We need everyone on top of their game for this mission."
Clementine sighed. "I know that, I'm just...it's Sarah who was complaining about this, she says ever since I started training her she's never been allowed to leave Valunt."
"I know, we'll work it out, but for now, let's focus on the mission." Javi said at last.
Clem nodded, readying herself as they came out of hyperspace, alongside their allies. To their relief, they had caught a lucky break, they had emerged undetected and were able to quickly ascertain the presence of Imperials, having formed a camp on the planet. Taking care to avoid any detection attempts they landed out of sight but with a straight shot to the Imperial camp. As they disembarked Clementine bit her lip, looking around.
"I can feel it, the same Force Presence I felt on Valunt and Ientor...but it's subdued." She remarked. "It's like it's hidden somehow, something simple but...the shrine isn't in plain sight, maybe underground."
The others nodded and Nick commented. "I'll bet that Imperial camp is right on top of it."
Shel sighed. "So, that complicates things...what about the Holocron itself, can you find that?"
Clementine shook her head. "No, not unless I get closer."
"Hey, um, you alright, Javi?" Pete suddenly spoke.
All eyes turned to Javier who was glaring.
"I know those Imperials." He said darkly.
Gabe nodded. "Me too, it's dad."
That caught their attention, David Garcia was here.
This might complicate things, of that they were sure.
"So, how are we gonna approach this?" Bonnie asked.
"We'll need to sabotage them as we were told." Russell remarked. "But we have to avoid being seen as much as possible."
Wyatt nodded. "Well, we did bring explosives, if we can sneak around and plant them in different parts of the camp, we can cause a lot of disruption."
"Sounds good to me." Javi remarked. "So…"
"Uncle Javi-"
He shook his head. "No Gabe. I have to face David alone, leave that to me. You help the others with the explosives."
"I'll see if I can find a way down to the shrine." Clementine remarked.
They all agreed on their plans and began to gather what they'd need, ready to put their mission into action, still working on maintaining stealth as they had so far managed to avoid being seen or detected in any way. They knew it wouldn't last so they had to act quickly, but carefully. So with everything at the ready, they began to move into position. It did not take long for Clem and Javi, who were working separately from the others, to find ways to sneak into the actual camp itself, meanwhile the others started along the perimeter and began identifying targets for the explosives.
Meanwhile, having slipped past the guards and made his way into the base. Javi readied his blaster and worked his way down the corridor he had found himself in. He kept his ears open for any sign of David, he had to be ready for this. It wouldn't be easy but with all that had happened to his family he couldn't take any more risks. It pained him to have to think like this, but he knew it was either he'd have to kill his brother, or get him to join them. He then stopped and hid as he heard the words in the room next to where he had stopped.
"Hurry, finish sweeping the northern ridge, I want a full read out on our surroundings." It was David. "We must keep things secure until everything is ready."
Javi dared to peek into the room, seeing it was a control room, with only this door being the only way in or out. It also required a key card which Javi took note of lying nearby. This was it, his only chance. Slipping into the room he grabbed the keycard and used it to close and lock the door behind him. Hearing the noise David spun around, blaster ready only to stop, Javi was already aiming at him, it was a stand off.
"So, my wayward brother is here, what were planning, to kill me?" David snapped.
Javi glared. "If I have to David, it's not too late. Why abandon your family?"
"My family abandoned me!"
"Only because you serve a corrupt and evil Empire that is trying to stifle and any and all freedom in the galaxy." Javi countered. "Those are Gabe's words by the way. I know how you think, but you're wrong."
"Oh, how so?" David queried, with a sarcastic smirk.
"About Gabe, he's not weak." Javi said firmly. "He's strong, stronger than you actually. He's willing to stand up for the oppressed, rather than just mindlessly oppress them."
Before David could retort a startled transmission came through.
"Admiral Garcia, a ship has just entered the atmosphere."
"What?" David gasped.
He also saw Javi start with surprise at that, which made him even more shocked, whoever this ship belonged to, it wasn't his disappointing brother's rebel allies.
As all this occurred, Clementine had found her way underground and reached the doors to the shrine, just as Nick had guessed, underground, beneath the Imperial camp. Opening the doors the same way as the other two shrines Clementine entered and looked around. The interior was laid out exactly like Valunt and Ientor, but right away she saw something wrong. The Holocron was not on the altar like the others. Then she saw movement and a figure stepped out from behind one of the pillars.
"I was beginning to think you'd never come, Clementine."
It was Minerva.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
