Chapter 32: Infiltration of Ostoth part 2
"Minerva. Somehow I'm not surprised to see you here." Clementine remarked calmly.
Minerva smirked, shaking her head. "Still playing this little game, thinking you can change things, thinking you are some great hero."
Clementine shook her head. "No, I'm not making any excuses for what I am, unlike you."
Minerva surprisingly kept her temper in check. She merely quirked an eyebrow at Clem's statement and Clem continued.
"I don't know what lies you told Violet to twist her mind, but the way you treat her is beyond reprehensible."
"Treat her, I am keeping her in line, she needs to learn her place." Minerva countered. "I have not lied to her, unlike you."
Clementine flared up. "You told her that her friends were dead when they are very much alive and I have not lied to Violet either!"
"Well, I'll just have to correct that and kill them." Minerva replied with a shrug.
Clementine remained tense, unsure what to say, she couldn't understand what Minerva was driving at, but she had a sneaking suspicions she had made a mistake, that she had let her guard down and Minerva had ended up breaking into her mind.
Shaking her head, Minerva smirked. "Funny, you talk of never lying, not even to your current allies?"
"Huh?" Clem gasped, swallowing, her fears starting to come up.
"Oh yes. Did you ever tell them about Lee…" She remarked with a dark grin.
Clem tensed. "Of course, how could I not, I-"
"Did you tell them?" Minerva revealed. "How he died...Exactly how he died."
It was like a switch flipped, suddenly Clementine's lightsaber was ignited and she attacked, Minerva almost lazily ignited her own to block the sudden attack. She had provoked Clementine successfully.
Meanwhile, in the control room, Javi was still shocked at the arrival of this unknown ship, as was David. He quickly activated the console to communicate.
"Identify the owners of that ship and apprehend anyone on board, at once." David said before narrowing his eyes. "Get to full alert and get a team here now, the rebels are here!"
With that he turned and opened fire at Javier.
"Shit." Javi hissed, narrowly dodging.
He quickly unlocked and hurried out the door as David continued to fire at him until he was out of sight.
'Shit David...Urgh who are those people that arrived.' He wondered. 'I have to find the others, they're in danger.'
He continued to hurry down the corridors until suddenly he heard it, the sound of heavy footsteps running towards him.
"Not good." He hissed.
Luckily he managed to find a way to hide, getting out of sight just as the Stormtroopers came around the corner and began running past him, heading for the control room. Taking a slow breath, hopeful that he had succeeded in getting past the attempted capture or attack, he slipped out and made his way back down the corridor. He was retracting his old route and hurried until he got outside to hear the sounds of battle, they had been discovered.
Clementine growled and ducked back out of the way, striking with her lightsaber again and then a follow up blow but Minerva deflected both of the attacks. Her unstable blade was not failing her at the moment and she remained defensive as Clem attempted a strong overhead strike.
"Oh dear, so unlike the Jedi you claim to be." Minerva scoffed.
Clementine grimaced and swiftly stepped back, shaking her head, breathing heavily.
Minerva continued to smirk. "Funny, you never got quite so angry the last time we met. Have I touched a nerve?"
"You don't...I…" Clem gasped.
She couldn't help but feel anger at Minerva's words, they brought a lot of things to the surface. Mostly repressed memories of that horrible incident that led to Lee's death.
"Such a shame, not so infallible after all." Minerva taunted. "Violet is far better off without you, someone who can't even tell the truth about herself. Oh I was wondering, were you looking for this?"
With that Minerva suddenly held up, of all things, the Jedi Holocron that Clem had indeed been searching for. She had beaten her too it.
Up on the surface Javi ducked behind cover as the Stormtroopers saw him and began to fire at him too. He fired back, taking down two of them, before hurrying to where they were firing. Sure enough he found the others.
"Javi what's going on?" Carlos burst out upon seeing him. "They found us, what?"
Javi shook his head. "David warned them, after that ship appeared."
Gabe grimaced. "Is Dad-?"
"He's still in the control room." Javi explained. "What is the deal with that ship?"
Firing back at the Stormtroopers, Shel grimaced.
"It's worse than we thought. I recognized it right away. It's those bounty hunters again, they've found us, came after us…" She explained.
Nick fired at their attackers and groaned. "Where did they land, they could be coming at us from anywhere, we-"
Suddenly Becca cried out and to Shel's horror, they found her fallen to the ground, clearly stunned.
"Got her!" Vitali cried out.
They had flanked them.
"Not now." Javi snapped.
He quickly fired at them, startling them as they hadn't expected such a quick response. Shel took this chance and grabbed Becca, pulling her up.
Clementine clenched her teeth, jaw rigid with tension. She felt the same way she had back on Crunus when she first fought Minerva. Just like back them Minerva was cocky and in control. But then Clementine reminded herself why she was really here.
'Don't let her get to you, the things she's saying, you know what her game is. You don't have to keep fighting.' She told herself.
So with a deep breath, she acted. Before Minerva could taunt her more, Clem shut off her lightsaber and acted, with one hand she used the Force to pull the Holocron from Minerva's grasp into her own, with the other, she pushed Minerva with as much power as she could muster, sending her flying across the room. With the Holocron in hand and an opening to act, Clem turned and hurried, escaping the shrine and rushing to rejoin her allies so they could escape, deeply shaken by Minerva's intrusion into her mind and the things she had found, the things she could potentially reveal. As she exited she saw the fight taking place and hurried.
"Hey, now, do it now!" She cried out.
Seeing Clem and knowing they were safe, Shel had already taken Becca back to their ship, the rest of the group began to flee, setting off the explosives as they did so, taking not only the Imperials, but the Bounty Hunters by surprise. They quickly returned to their ships, Shel had waited for them, and quickly took off, leaving the planet and making their escape back to Valunt. Meanwhile, back on the surface, David glowered as his men apprehended the bounty hunters.
"Take them to the prison bay on my ship...We'll just have to go to Nar Shaddaa and inform Governor Tarkin of our failure."
"On the contrary." Minerva remarked with a grin. "One plan failed, the other succeeded."
With that she left David confused as she swept towards the ship, clearly pleased with herself.
