Chapter 35: Battle of Valunt – Part 1
Standing stoically as they waited, The Invisibles watched as the Impulse came in to land, the rest of the Vader's Fist fleet remained in orbit, no doubt as a deterrent to any attempted escape. Tripp stood out front, flanked by Eleanor and Conrad while Javi and Gabe stood just behind them. The rest of the Eclipse crew, Pete, Nick and Carlos stood slightly further back along with Max. On either side of them stood the smugglers, Shel, Becca, Vince, Bonnie, Wyatt and Russell, while on the other side the Ericsons crew stood, all in full view, Louis stood up front with Ruby and Aasim while just to the right and behind them, Brody, Omar and Willy stood and finally, on the other side, Tenn. Meanwhile, hidden from view in the caves, weapons at the ready just in case, the other members of the Invisibles watched, Kate, Mariana and Rebecca took up refuse at one of the cave mouths and watched cautiously. With the Impulse landed and the ramp descending it was time for things to begin. But so focused where they on the Impulse that they did not notice another two ships coming in to land, at different parts of the planet.
Tensions ran high as the Invisibles restrained themselves from acting, no easy task from the smug grin on Lily's face as she led her troops down the ramp to take up position behind her. David stood to her left while Minerva and Violet were on her right. Almost at once Violet's expression flickered when she saw the Ericsons crew, but she otherwise did not seem to react.
"So wonderful to finally see you." Lily remarked with a smirk. "Such a shame that your little attempt to hide from us was doomed to failure. Funny what having debts will make a person do, hmmm?"
Tripp rolled his eyes. "Yes, yes, so Eli betrayed us, we know."
That made Lily falter; her smug grin disappeared.
"What, upset we stole your thunder, you did get invited here remember, we agreed to negotiations." Tripp pointed out. "It's not like you were coming to launch a surprise attack with that."
Lily just snarled, she did not like the tone of this fool and his insinuations that she was foolish and thought anything of the sort. Her true purpose had been much different. She had simply wanted to rub their noses in the truth, to reveal just how they had been betrayed, to take advantage of the confusions as to how they had been discovered. She couldn't understand it, how could they possibly have already known Eli was responsible.
She quickly recovered however and got down to business.
"Regardless, you know why we're here, now, hand over the Holocrons." She demanded.
Tripp smiled thinly. "Very well, if that's what you want. Clementine and Sarah have them, they're waiting at the shrine for Violet and Minerva...They'll only hand them over to them."
Lily growled. "Listen here you-"
"Very well then." Minerva interrupted. "Let's go Violet."
She shot Lily a dirty look and Lily simply shook her head, even more outraged now. So leaving the rest of the their people to watch over the Invisibles, Minerva and Violet began walking across the planet's surface, towards the shrine.
"They're alive." Violet remarked.
Minerva didn't even turn to look at her. "Hmmm?"
"You lied to me, Minnie."
"Oh for-" Minerva snapped. "What self-inflicted issue are you going to whine about now?"
Violet glared at her sharply you. "You told me everyone at Crunus, all my friends were dead. Yet they were standing right there, clearly alive!"
Finally Minerva turned to face Violet, rounding on her.
"That is irrelevant and you know it." She warned. "Focus on your mission, or else, now move!"
Flinching at her tone, Violet immediately went quiet and followed Minerva as they resumed their walk to the shrine. Entering through the door which was already open, as if waiting for them, they immediately spotted Clementine and Sarah standing together, Clementine holding a moderately sized bag in her hand.
Eyes narrowed Minerva walked further into the shrine, Violet now matching her pace until they stood alongside each other, a few feet away from Clementine and Sarah, doing the same.
"So...we meet again." Minerva drawled. "Although it's clear now, isn't it...things have changed, you no longer have any advantage or hope."
"We have plenty of hope, nothing you do could ever change that." Sarah replied defiantly.
Minerva laughed coldly. "Violet is proof that is false, aren't you love?"
Violet didn't say anything, in fact she refused to even meet Clem and Sarah's gaze. Instead she stared fixedly at the bag in Clem's hand.
"Well, enough stalling, you know why we're here." Minerva continued, unperturbed by the lack of answer from Violet. "So...how are you faring after our last meeting Clementine. Quite the display you made when we began uncovering your memories...almost Si-"
Clementine interrupted her sharply. "Are you here for Holocrons or to bore us with your speeches."
Minerva shook her head. "Deflection, how typical...Hand them over."
It was then Clementine smiled grimly. "Well that's a shame...I don't have them."
She tossed the bag to the floor between them and it burst open, leaving a large bundle of Imperial Credits, stolen from the cargo ship, lying on the floor of the shrine.
"You!" Minerva raged.
In an instant all four lightsabers were ignited.
Standing waiting for Minerva and Violet to return, Lily decided it was time to take the next step.
"You know, I couldn't help but notice a familiar face here...now a lot of things, a lot of...secrets falling into your hands are making sense." She told Tripp. "You'll be pleased no doubt that we...took care of Eli, so he won't be betraying you again."
Tripp grunted. "We noticed, so what?"
Lily shrugged. "I just think that's a good idea...ensure there can be no further betrayal."
"I was told by Tarkin if we complied we'd be left alive."
"No, that's not what he said." Lily explained. "He said you would be left alive."
With that she suddenly drew her blaster and shot and killed the one responsible for so many Imperial secrets being leaked to the Invisibles, Max.
