Chapter 36: Battle of Valunt – Part 2

With their lightsabers ignited the four closed in until finally, with a snarl, Minerva lunged forwards, attacking first, Clem acted quickly to deflect the strike and countered, then Sarah joined but Minerva parried them easily. Violet hesitated but then joined in the battle and soon the tense stand-off broke down into two side by side duels with Clementine facing Minerva and Sarah facing Violet. After dodging a few strikes and countering with some of their own which were dodged the two sides ended up in a blade lock with their respective opponents. Grimacing as she tried to fend off Minerva's strength, Clementine suddenly spoke.

"Violet, didn't you see them, the Ericsons crew, they were up there, waiting." She said.

Violet's gaze flickered. "C-Clementine…"

Minerva growled loudly and pressed against Clementine's blade with more force. Clementine quickly pushed her aside with a precise pirouette and their blades clashed again.

"They're alive Violet, not dead, you saw it." Clementine continued.

Minerva spat her words darkly. "Oh please, you are so transparent, you think that'll work."

Sarah then spoke up suddenly, countering. "Like you aren't transparent, what with your lies. Violet didn't you hear that, it's…"

"Quiet!" Violet cried, but more out of fear than anger.

"It's true Violet." Clementine insisted. "Minerva is lying to you, you saw it with your own eyes, our friends are still alive. Who knows what else she lied about."

Clementine could only hope this worked, that she could open Violet's eyes to the truth.

All at once there was chaos, the Stormtroopers readied to fire, then the hidden members of the Invisibles beat them to the punch and opened fire, killing several Stormtroopers and startling the surviving Imperials who had thought they held all the cards and that everything was to their advantage here. This gave the main group time to make it back to cover and begin to return fire, hitting some more opponents.

"What are you waiting for you fools!" Lily screamed. "Take them out, kill them, leave no survivors!"

She opened fire herself and then pulled her communicator.

"Minerva, it's a trick, kill those Jedi scum!"

She was forced to stop however and dodge as one blaster shot very narrowly missed her head. She swiftly took cover, right next to David.

"Well this didn't turned out at planned." David remarked dryly.

"You just have to get on my case for everything." Lily snarled. "How about you instead do something useful, like kill them."

David rolled his eyes. "Right, as that's your solution to everything."

Lily just scoffed and peeked out from behind cover to find a suitable target. She couldn't see the one she was after, the one she knew was important for her to eliminate to cripple the Invisibles, their medical officer.

Still battling each other, with people from both sides falling to the blaster bolts, David shook his head.

"This is getting us nowhere. Bring in heavy support."

Lily however saw a chance to twist things to her favour. Meanwhile, trying desperately to keep things calm, wishing he could focus solely on helping the wounded, feeling terrible at so many lives being lost, Carlos peeked out and, taking a chance, opened fire and took out two Imperial soldiers. It was then he saw it.

"Oh no." He gasped. "Everyone, look out, heavy turret, they-"

He stopped, eyes wide in horror as suddenly, while she tried to move to another cover, Rebecca was shot by Lily.

"No!" He cried. "No, it…"

He couldn't let this stand; if he let AJ's mother die, he'd never forgive himself. Unfortunately that was what Lily was waiting for and when he broke cover she took the shot, killing him as well.

"Carlos!" Tripp cried out, horrified. "Everyone quick, we need to fall back, we-!"

He was cut off by the heavy turret beginning to fire, tearing up so much earth with each attack and causing harm and death wherever it struck. It was then it happened, seeing that she was exposed to danger, Gabe reacted.

"Brody, look out!"

The rest of the Ericsons crew cried out in shock, watching in horror as Gabe rushed and tried to push her out of the way, just as the turret struck. Both of them cried out before landing in a ditch, out of the firing line. Seeing his son struck in this manner David froze, eyes wide in horror.

Unfortunately, Minerva had her own trick up her sleeve.

"So that's how you want to play it." She remarked with a wicked grin. "Are you forgetting your own lies Clementine."

Sarah shook her head as both sides ended their blade locks and backed off.

"Oh please, save it." She snapped.

Clementine however tensed. "Minerva…"

"You remember don't you, what we...started to discuss on Ostoth? Those repressed memories of yours, the lies you've told everyone, including yourself?" Minerva continued.

Clementine shook her head. "That's enough."

Minerva smirked. "Just admit it, come on, admit the truth."

Seeing this exchange, hearing the back and forth, Violet looked back and forth between Minerva and Clementine.

"Minnie, what-?"

But then, suddenly, startling everyone, Sarah gasped and staggered back. Seeing a chance Minerva tried to take it and attacked her. Clementine acted quickly and blocked the strike before using the Force to push Minerva and Violet, who had begun to try and charge in, back. Taking advantage of them being stunned she checked on Sarah, who had now dropped to her knees.

"Sarah, what-?"

Sarah's voice shook. "My, my dad...he's-"

Clementine's eyes widened in horror, realizing exactly what she meant, Carlos was dead.
