Chapter 40: Burning Down
Following the coordinates, trying to keep herself pulled together, still shaken by the encounter at Valunt and with Clementine fleeing as she had.
'Clementine, what...this can't be right, there's still something missing, it can't be as simple as that.' She thought sadly. 'Why Clem, you didn't have to run…'
She shook her head sadly, shuddered at the memory of that man, no monster, Darth Vader. She quickly shook off those concerns and tried to remain calm as she finally reached her destination and came in to land, finding the other ships and seeing the surviving members of the Invisibles, plus the other rebels who had saved them. Landing her ship and disembarking she found herself instantly surrounded by most of the Ericsons crew, Brody wasn't present although the others were.
"Sarah, you made it." Ruby gasped in relief. "Are you hurt, let me see…?"
Sarah held up her head. "I'm okay, really, I'm just glad you're all okay, where's Brody?"
Louis explained. "She was injured, but she'll pull through, she's getting seen to right now."
"Wait, where's Clem?" Willy asked, noticing her absence.
Sarah grimaced. "I...I need everyone to hear this...something has happened."
That worried them greatly.
Sarah bit her lip as she left the main room, she had told everyone about the battle in the shrine, about the startling revelations about Clementine and her master Lee. Of their close encounter and escape with Darth Vader. The Ericsons crew had instantly stood up for Clementine upon seeing the shock of the others hearing the news.
Sarah let out a relieved sigh. 'At least the others believed them, we all can't help but feel things aren't quite that simple, that we're not hearing the full story...Clem may have killed her master, but she can't have just done it the way they're all saying she did. But for it to have had this effect on her...where has she even gone?'
She also took stock of the horrific news she had heard about the fates of the others. Gabe was also injured trying to save the injured Brody. The newly defected David and Mariana were staying with him, Tripp had been injured too. Peter, Nick, Max, Conrad and worst of all for her, her father Carlos, had all died. Trying to keep herself from breaking down in tears, Sarah hugged AJ as the young boy clung to her. Rebecca had been killed too. That wasn't all, Becca and Kate had been abducted by the bounty hunters after Becca and Shel. Apparently Kate had been taken solely for getting in the way of Becca's abduction.
After taking some time to try and compose themselves, Sarah and AJ met with Kenny, Luke and another smuggler called Molly, all of them showing their support as much as possible. Paul spoke with Tripp and passed on word to the others that their main priority was to find a new base to try and operate from, but before that the injured had to recover and there was still the issue of Becca and Kate's abduction. That was when Sarah had made up her mind, after ensuring that AJ would stay with the main group and protect the Holocrons. Sarah reached the landing area where Shel, Bonnie, Wyatt, Vince, Javier, Molly and Luke were preparing themselves.
"Are you all going to try and save Becca and Kate?" She asked at once.
Startled they turned to her and with a sigh, Shel nodded. "Yes, we can't just leave them."
Sarah then spoke up. "Well, I'm coming along, I want to help you."
"This will not be easy, we're going up against probably the most dangerous crime lord outwith the Hutts." Javi warned her. "William Carver is not someone you take lightly."
"I know that, but I need to help you. I just...I have a feeling…" She tried to explain.
Javi smiled. "Will of the Force maybe, well, I'm not gonna turn down help, but are you sure you're okay. I mean, Carlos…"
"I...I know, but I can't just sit around grieving dad, not yet. I'll be alright."
So, Sarah soon joined them in preparing to leave to go and rescue Becca and Kate.

Onboard the Impulse, Vader was seeing off Tarkin who was being recalled to Coruscant while Lily spoke to her men, clearly happy with what she saw as a successful mission, in so far as crippling the Invisibles and ruining the threat they posed, so far as she was concerned. She wasn't even showing any care to David Garcia's betrayal, other than to brand him a traitor and confirm that he was now a target to be eliminated. Violet however was not hearing any of this, she was instead sitting in her room, clutching at her damaged eye while Minerva stood over her.
"Honestly Violet, I expected better, you were meant to be stronger, to have improved." Minerva berated her. "You let yourself get injured, you fail to back me up and so we fail to capture them. I'm warning you now, this is your last chance. Don't screw up again."
Violet swallowed, looking up, Minerva turned away and left the room, not even stopping. Violet shuddered, a feeling of loss and pain building inside her. Loss and pain that didn't feel all her own. She felt it and turned around.

With an almost feral scream, Clem threw her lightsaber towards her ship. She had already used it to carve up the ship as much as she could. She was on a lonely planet with little in the way of sentient life. She had chosen it specifically after making her escape from Valunt and from both the Invisibles and Vader's Fist. She couldn't take it anymore. Her mind was filled with what had happened, the death of Lee, how it was all her fault. This was what she deserved, nothing more, exile. With a final scream she used the Force to pull down the large rocks around the ship and lightsaber, using them to crush them underneath and finally it was done. Staggering back she collapsed onto a rock and sat, the tears streaming down her face. Then she felt it, even more loss and pain, that wasn't hers. Trembling she raised her gaze and found herself staring at Violet, who returned the stare, her right eye milky white and the skin around it scarred. The felt each other's emotions and just watched each other, neither saying a word.
