Chapter 45: Desperate Plea

The site of planet where she had finally sensed Clementine being located on made Violet gasp. It was clear to her now just how badly Clem had fallen and she wagered that upon landing, she'd find herself and Clementine to be the only living organisms there capable of speech, no human or alien races to speak of. A thought that was proven true when she landed and disembarked from the ship, there were animals of course, but no other lifeforms in sight. Ignoring the wind that rippled her cloak, Violet pressed onwards, approaching the large rock formation ahead, with the cave at its base. She did not stop until she was actually inside the cave and there, seated on the floor of the cave, back turned to her, was Clementine.

"Clem."

Clementine started and then turned around. "Violet...what...This again."

Violet shook her head, walking up to her. "No...not this time."

"What?"

"I'm here." She explained. "I'm really here."

To emphasize this, she reached out and touched Clementine's shoulder causing the girl to gasp and then flinch away.

"What, then you…?"

Violet shook her head. "I'm here alone, you were right about me...you were right all along."

Clementine shuddered at that, biting her lip. She then stood up and moved past Violet who turned and followed her out of the cave.

"I...well I'm happy for you. I just wish it wasn't already too late." She said, voice trembling.

Violet glared. "It's not too late."

Clementine stopped, taking this in.

Finally she sighed and continued walking again.

"It is. You shouldn't have come after me. You should've joined the Invisibles, let them see that you've changed." She remarked.

"Oh I'm sure they'd love to have me after all I've done." Violet remarked sarcastically. "If I was to join them, I'd need you to be there…"

Clementine shook her head. "No you wouldn't. The rest of the Ericsons crew is there, they've not given up on you, they'd support you."

She sat down on the same rock as before. Violet hesitated before moving to the other rock, not realizing it was the same one she had appeared on during the Force Bond. But Clementine did and her heart clenched at the sight.

'Violet, why do you have to make this so hard...I...I…' She thought desperately, trying to push back the swirling feelings inside her.

Violet's emotions were no less turbulent. 'Please Clem, it kills me to see you like this. This doesn't make sense, you can't just...I need you, but you're…'

She sighed. "The Ericsons crew, they've not given up on me."

"No."

"But you've given up on everything." Violet countered. "You let yourself be destroyed...you think that pain is what causes all these other misfortunes but you're wrong Clem. It's what made you stronger, it's what helped you keep going."

"No it isn't Violet. What kept me going was lying to myself." Clementine snapped. "Don't you see...This is what I mean by too late. I can't help anyone, besides, they're all better off without me. Without a murderer."

Violet grimaced, this was clearly going to be harder than she thought.

She stood up and began to approach Clem, but Clem shifted backwards.

"No, don't come near me."

Violet paused and then shook her head. "Clem, this is not you...you-"

"I am a murderer Violet, you heard it plain as day." She burst out. "I killed Lee, I killed my master."

"Yet that is not the full story, is it?" Violet countered.

Her words struck home, she could see it, Clementine slumped, bowing her head.

"I didn't think so, I can feel it. There is more to these repressed memories, parts that are still repressed...What if they hold the truth, I don't believe you just went and killed him you know." Violet explained.

Clementine glared at her. "What does it matter, he's dead because of me, one way or another I killed him!"

"But we don't know the truth...those memories you're still holding back, if you-"

"I can't Violet...for the same reasons you fell to the Dark Side. You were scared and alone, and Minerva stoked your anger until it was all you could feel." Clementine protested. "I can't try to remember, I...I'm too scared."

"Yet you and the others never gave up on me. You told me so yourself." Violet replied softly. "Now look what that's accomplished. Here I am, finally seeing the truth...finally willing to overcome my fears and anger and try to make amends...You have to fight that fear Clem...otherwise, you'll never be able to move forward in your life."

"I'm not trying to move forward, there is nothing for me to move forward too! Why do you think I came here, why do you think I trashed my ship and lightsaber!?" Clementine cried out.

Violet stood up, unable to hold back anymore. "Because you're scared! Scared not just of learning the truth, but of your own feelings and most of all, scared of letting that pain show and being seen as less than perfect! You just can't accept people like you for you and constantly try to show an idealized version of yourself, without flaws! That's why so many things have gone wrong, because you can't accept that you're just one person, Clem!"

Clem stared at Violet in shock, frozen.

Violet let out a slow breath, calming down. "You've helped me Clem, now please...let me help you."

"I…" Clementine hesitated before turning away again, clearly trying to gather herself.

"No." Violet interrupted. "Don't do this, this isn't the time for the strong act. That's not going to get you anywhere. It was closing off their emotions like that which led to the Jedi being unable to see their own destruction coming in the first place."

Clementine looked like she was about to protest, when a third male voice cut in.

"She's right, Clem."

Violet started but Clem went rigid, her head turning towards the voice, eyes wide with disbelief.

"Lee?"
