Chapter 49: Interception

AJ could feel the pain throbbing in the back of his head where he had been hit. He was waking up, he bit back a groan and tried to rub his head. That was when he realized he couldn't move. His eyes snapped open and he gasped. He was lying on some sort of metal table like device, metal clamps secured his wrists to the side of the device while more clamps secured his ankles and just below his elbows, he was upright, albeit at a slight angle. AJ had heard about these, interrogation chairs, but they were usually bigger. This one seemed to have been specially modified in order to contain him instead of the usual prisoners, full grown adults compared to his five years.

"I see you're awake, brat." A cold voice remarked.

AJ started and looked around, finally seeing the man he had seen before, before being knocked out. Abel.

He smirked darkly, patting the bag on the table next to him. "I should thank you, for gathering everything we needed."

AJ flinched, remembering. "The Holocrons, no!"

"These are the least of your worries, little boy." Abel scoffed. "You see, we need a new underling for Minerva and with Violet gone, I'd say you're perfect."

"Never!"

"Don't be so sure. Wait till Minerva gets here, then you'll see just how impossible it is to resist her. You will be our new ally." Abel remarked calmly.

With that he took the bag containing the Holocrons and left the room, the door shutting behind him, leaving AJ trapped.

Meanwhile, simply following the strange feeling they had noted, Clementine and Violet arrived within the orbit of the planet it was coming from. Clementine gasped upon seeing the dwarf planet.

"That's Brun...that's where I first started teaching Sarah about the Force." She explained.

Violet bit her lip. "Well, that's interesting. The Empire took it over, there's a base there now. Why would we-?"

Clementine replied at once. " It's coming from the planet, something there is causing this disturbance...It almost feels like a cry for help."

"I think I know a place we can land, without drawing too much attention. Luckily this is an Imperial ship so we should have a good cover, so long as they don't get too close or ask too many questions." Violet considered.

Clementine agreed, hopeful as they made their way down to the planet's surface. Much to her relief, Violet had been right and they landed without trouble. Disembarking they began creeping towards the main facility that they could see, it was definitely the source of the disturbance they had sensed. They stopped just out of sight however and watched as a man emerged from inside.

"That's Abel Fernandez." Violet revealed. "He's a captain in the Imperial Army, serves in Vader's Fist, reporting directly to Lily, one of the very few who actually defers to her."

"Well, he'll be popular then." Clementine snarked. "So, whatever we're feeling, it's inside."

As they watched Abel approached the nearby shuttle, carrying a bag that Clementine recognized.

"Vi...they've got the Holocrons." She gasped.

"Shit, that means...they'll be able to activate the weapon…" Violet realized. "But...that's not what we're feeling?"

Clementine grimaced. "There must be something else...still inside. Urgh, we're gonna have to let him get away."

So they did so, watching helplessly as Abel boarded the shuttle and left Brun.

Trying hard to keep the failure from fully occupying their minds they stealthily made their way towards the base, noting the rather light security.

"Is it not suspicious that there's hardly any security here?" Clementine asks.

Violet shook her head. "Not really, it was just an outpost, we didn't really care for it, it was just to stop your guys from having any base on it."

Clementine almost smirked at that, but focused instead as they slipped inside the base, the feeling of disturbance grew stronger, they were getting closer. They made their way through the base, relying on stealth and keeping out of sight of any patrols until they were right outside one of the rooms.

"This is it...what's in here, any ideas?" Clem asked.

Violet sighed. "The interrogation room, where we keep prisoners for obvious reasons...and to prep them for transportation."

Grimacing, Clementine took Violet's hand in a show of support, their relationship had just started but already the strength of it was display, it had been their understanding of each other that allowed them to easily work together to get this far so effortlessly. Nodding to Clem Violet stepped forward and they utilized the force to open the door and hurried inside, Clem's eyes widened upon seeing who was inside, strapped down.

"AJ?"

He started. "Clem, you-"

He gasped but then froze upon seeing Violet.

Clementine knew right away what was wrong and, as soon as he was free, she acted to reassure him.

"It's okay AJ, Violet's one of us now."

AJ bit his lip. "But, I thought-"

Violet sighed. "I know...I'm sorry about everything, but I'm here to help, I need to correct my mistakes."

"I promise AJ, she's here to help us."

"Okay...if Clem trusts you, then I trust you." AJ said at last. "Oh no, I...they've got the Holocrons."

Clem nodded. "I know...we'll, we'll figure this out, first we need to regroup with the Invisibles."

"They'll be at our new base, Lusnes." AJ confirmed.

Clementine nodded, relieved that they now had a location. Again Clementine and Violet worked well together and were able to help AJ as they made their escape from the base and made it back to Violet's ship. It would be tricky, a tight squeeze, but with Clem and AJ sharing the rear seat and Violet setting things up as they took off they finally jumped to light speed and began making their way to Lusnes, saving AJ and preparing to reunite with the Invisibles.
