Chapter 55: Battle of Feoshen Part 2
With the ships drawing fire from Vader's Fist's fleet, both shuttles successfully made it down into the atmosphere of the planet. It certainly wasn't a pleasant sight up close either, a desolate wasteland with little in the way of sentient life visible. The red glow was due to the vivid red taint that seemed to come from the very soil of the planet. The red clouds thundered with a dark storm, no doubt a permanent fixture. Even as the shuttles landed they could see the ruined building up ahead, their destination. From within the second shuttle, Shel bit her lip.
"Might be tricky...there is cover we could use when under attack." She remarked.
Russell finished the thought for her. "But getting to it will be a problem, it's wide open until we reach that cover."
It certainly looked grim. But they had to hurry, they had to do this or things would fail. They had to rely on AJ's Battle Meditation and trust him. With everything ready, their weapons ready, the doors to the shuttles open and they emerged onto the planet.
"Here we go." Clem said softly.
She stepped up with the others as they readied themselves. She was with Sarah and Violet, while having joined them in their shuttle was Luke, Louis, Gabe, Brody, Willy and Tenn. Ruby, Aasim, Shel, Becca, Vince, Russell, Wyatt, Bonnie and Luke.
"Take nothing for granted." Molly warned, we need to get to that cover right away...before anything happens."
Violet nodded. "Agreed, lets go."
With that they hurried forwards.
They had barely started their run when from within the ruins, blaster fire erupted. As expected, the enemy had been lying in wait for them and were simply looking for a chance to mow them down. With their reflexes empowered by AJ's Battle Meditation, which was mainly reaching Clem, Sarah and Violet down on the planet, while they used their own will in the Force to allow it to pass on to the others, they managed to avoid being hit by any blaster fire. Ducking behind cover the smugglers at once began to return fire. As they did so, the three Jedi glanced over their cover and saw it was mainly Stormtroopers, but one figure was clad in an Imperial Officer's uniform.
"That man there." Clem gasped. "AJ described him. That's Abel."
Violet grimaced. "Urgh, yeah, I remember him. Smarmy bastard."
Clem shook her head. "He's the one who took AJ…"
"Clem, remember we have a mission here." Sarah interjected. "We can't get caught up in other matters right now."
Clem nodded. "I know, I know."
The rest of their allies had opened fire now too, while the Imperials returned it. They needed to lure them out somehow, they needed an opening. While waiting for that to happen, Clem led Sarah and Violet, still behind cover, to move until they were close enough, able to get in once an opening presented itself.
Back up in the planets orbit, the battle continued between the ships, firing back and forth, the capital ships relying on their shields, the fighters on their evasion capabilities.
"Get ready, we've got a number of them on our tail." Kenny remarked.
A number of TIE fighters were closing in on Kenny's tail along with his two wingmen.
Tripp responded at once. "Almost there, just hold on."
He led his own group to bring up behind Kenny, with the TIE fighters wedged between them. Veering around Kenny's ships began their attack, while Tripp's group did the same. Caught between them with nowhere to go, the TIE fighters were destroyed.
"Now that's what I'm talking about." Kenny laughed.
They turned again and soon they made another pass, firing at several capital ships as they passed and taking out more fighters. Watching them as they approached the Impulse, Lily glowered.
"I will not allow this. I will not have them making a mockery of me." She snarled. "Ready, concentrate ALL fire on those fighters."
"But Commander!" One cried. "Our people are still-"
"I don't care, fire!"
With that the Impulse unleashed it's firepower and to the horror of those watching all ships caught in this were consumed by it and destroyed. No warning, no fanfare, just masses of explosions and death. When it cleared, the ships were gone. So too was Tripp, Kenny, Sarita, Walter and Reggie.
"NO!" Eleanor screamed in horror as she watched from the bridge.
There was screaming, frantic chatter over their communicators. The wave of pain from all that death hit AJ hard and he gasped, eyes snapping open, breaking his Battle Meditation and putting the Invisibles at great risk.
Down on the surface, Clem, Violet and Sarah flinched, feeling AJ's concentration break and knowing why, they felt the wave of pain too and knew, the deaths.
"No…" Sarah gasped, voice shaking.
Violet grimaced. "Dammit, what, what now...how are we going to…?"
Clementine, with noticeable effort, shook her head. "We have to keep going, we can't let this be in vain."
They nodded and focused and observed as the battle on the surface continued. Abel observed the battlefield before him, noting the fire they were taking as they fired back.
'They've split into two groups and are firing from two different points. This is so basic, they think they can divide and conquer.' He thought disparagingly. 'Well, I can't let this stand much longer. Won't be long before the weapon is ready. But more importantly Lily will destroy them first and gain her eternal glory.'
So he knew it was time to act. Especially when he got a communication from Lily, the Invisibles were leaderless now.
"Alright, let's take them down, they're weak now, finish them off." He ordered.
With that the Imperial unit broke from the ruins and made their advance, firing at them heavily.
Seeing this, Clementine nodded.
"Let's go, now's our chance."
Sarah and Violet followed her as they quickly made their way into the ruins, despite their losses, they had just carried out the second phase of the plan.
