Chapter 58: Battle of Feoshen Part 5
Clementine and Violet were instantly alert, igniting their respective orange and purple lightsabers again, stepping back. Minerva did not move, at least from where she was standing, but a subtle movement of her hand revealed she had retrieved her lightsaber. From behind the now ruined console of the weapon, Vader stepped out and began his inexorable approach towards Minerva. Lightsaber ignited he gave no sign of knowing, or if he did know, of caring, that Minerva wasn't as helpless as she seemed. Stopping just behind her he spoke.
"You have failed me for the last time, Minerva."
She looked at Violet and Clementine and her gaze was resolute.
"RUN!"
With that she spun around, lightsaber igniting and clashing with the blade of Vader's.
"Minnie!" Violet gasped.
Clem grimaced. "I...she told us to run Violet...we can't do anything, not against him."
Both of them knew that was true, it didn't make them feel any less terrible however for turning and running away as Minerva continued to clash against Vader, trying to buy time. Even as they ran the sounds of combat never faded, for even as they left behind the weapon chamber where Minerva was stalling Vader, they found themselves heading up to where they left Sarah.
Arriving they found Sarah had fought well, although tired she had managed to take out all but three of the Purge Troopers and was just cutting down one of those three when they arrived.
"You guys!" She cried out.
They wasted no time cutting down the last two themselves.
"The weapon's destroyed." Clem explained. "We've got to get out of here now."
Sarah nodded. "R-right, what...happened down there?"
She soon got her answer as Minerva came hurrying up, turning to face Vader as he also made his way up, undaunted as he resumed combat with her. Violet was about to rush to her aid, but Minerva simply yelled back.
"Don't be stupid, get going!"
Then, startling them all, Minerva suddenly thrust out a hand, but it wasn't any of her usual force powers. Instead lighting shot from her hand and struck Vader who audibly cried out in pain and fell to one knee.
"Hurry!" Minerva cried.
They all began to run, Minerva cursing herself for letting herself get so worn down. She knew if she'd been at her peak form her Force Lighting would have ensured their escape, as it was, her blast would only be able to stun Vader, it wouldn't even be enough to damage the vital components of his suit like a full powered blast would have done.
Emerging from the ruins they found the rest of the ground team, having finished off their opponents, all gathered around the body.
"Brody!" Clem cried out.
She, Violet and Sarah rushed forwards, shocked as a tearful Ruby explained what happened. Watching this, Minerva bit her lip, unsure if she should join them or not. But then it happened and she spun around, only for her lightsaber to cut out at the worst possible time.
"NO!" Violet screamed.
All eyes turned to see Minerva drop to the ground, cut down by Vader who had finally caught up. Shel immediately grabbed her communicator and began yelling something, but Clem never caught what it was, nor did she see what happened next. The only thing she saw was Vader raising his hand, then she was Force Pushed back. Flying through the air until she hit one of the shuttles with such impact that she blacked out.
