Act II (Part 4)
MJ and Peter kissed, since they hadn't in a very long time. They stopped as Peter told her, "I gotta go."
They both turned to see his open window and could hear sirens. She nodded and went on her way to the door. They both semi-smiled and then Peter closed the door.
MJ turned around to go, only to see Ned and Betty standing by. "Where you two standing there-" She was to about ask until Ned and Betty shook their head.
"No, no, we were just waiting for you," Betty surmised.
"And hoped you were alright," Ned added.
MJ smiled a bit at the concern from her two friends. She looked at his door and then back at her friends and proceeded to walk with them to the elevator.
Spider-Man leaps out window, he goes from rooftop to rooftop. After a few jumps, he leaps off where there are no more rooftops, instead almost into the air.
THWIP!
One swing and then does a backflip in the air.
THWIP!
Another swing and he propels his body forward in the air.
Swinging got his mind on a lot of things. His friends, his girlfriend, college, and so on. Everything wasn't going to be the same. He wanted to tell them that even though he's fine, he's not the same kid they once knew. Maybe, if he could just tell them that in a little more time, he could find some sort of happiness against his Parker luck.
He was also hoping meeting Daredevil tonight won't go as bad. He wasn't sure if they were going to do recon or something akin to that.
He swung by Bleeker Street and kept swinging away from it to go to Hell's Kitchen. With a little speed, he'd reach Hell's Kitchen. Now Daredevil told him to meet near Clinton Church, which building he didn't know. However, he swung fast and landed on a rooftop near the church. Probably, it wasn't close to it, so he jumped across rooftops to reach a certain one where Daredevil meets him.
Spider-Man looked around on the one Daredevil could possibly meet him. He turned to see a figure in the shadows lurking and then revealing himself to be Daredevil. He wasn't going to lie that made scared a bit.
"Hey, Spider-Man." Daredevil greeted.
"Daredevil," Spider-Man greeted back, granted he said it in a low voice.
"Any news on Kraven on your end?" Daredevil asked.
Spider-Man shook his head. "Not that I know of. I do know Nick Fury—"
"Fury? As in the former director of SHIELD? What's he got to do with this?" He asked bluntly.
"It's just that Fury told me that the Feds are handling this, but I highly doubt it." Spider-Man added.
"When did he tell you this?" Daredevil asked.
"Um…. Right before I met you yesterday." He said, cautiously.
Daredevil shook his head. "And you didn't think to tell me beforehand?"
Spider-Man sighed, "Well, honestly to be quite fair, the Feds have done a terrible job investigating me. And with Kraven, he's been hired to not only kill me. Fury believes Kraven will kill him too. It's got him shook. Even though he didn't sound scared of his life being taken away, he sounded like he was scared mine would be."
Daredevil paused at this reveal. "If the Feds are after him. Perhaps, we can increase evidence for them by capturing Kraven and Mysterio's crew. I also heard about that robber being you. Any relation?"
"No, I don't know who that guy was this morning, but I didn't steal, and if I find him—"
"We'll start with him," Daredevil suggested.
"What? No? I want to find him because he could hurt other people. I don't think he's connected with Kraven at all," Spider-Man said confidently.
"And how do you know he isn't with Kraven?" Daredevil asked.
"It's too much of a coincidence." Spider-Man surmised.
"So, you think Kraven and this robber pretending to be you aren't working together?" Daredevil asked.
"I'm sure of it," Spider-Man said confidently again.
Daredevil nodded and said, "Ok, perhaps I'll tell what I found out on my end. Though your information is good, I think I might be able to connect the dots for you."
"Ok, is it really bad? Worse than me saying the Feds are involved?" Spider-Man asked, getting curious as to what Daredevil was about to say.
"The weapons that are being sold to the Maggia and going around Hell's Kitchen. There were suspicions about a new crew on the streets selling them used to be former Stark Industries employees. At first, I thought it was Stark Industries themselves making those weapons and trying to cover up a lot of damages and costs. But it seemed too far-fetched. Plus, Mr. Stark was an Avengers who gave his life to stop Thanos." Daredevil explained.
Underneath the mask, Peter had a few tears in his eyes forming at the mention of Stark giving his life to stop Thanos, but he had to stop himself and listen to what Daredevil was saying.
He continued, "There was hardly any evidence to connect Stark Industries to these weapons sold to the Maggia. Now, maybe, it could also mean someone who needed to have a vendetta against Mr. Stark. And then when you mentioned Mysterio's crew suddenly it clicked with me that you were once on trial for his murder only for it to be proven false. His crew must be the ones selling those weapons, smuggling them even. But if they hired Kraven to take you out, what more do they need than to take out the current CEO of Stark Industries."
Spider-Man's eye lenses widened, and he surmised, "So, you're saying if they hired Kraven to kill me, it won't just be me, but the CEO, Pepper Potts? And it's also because Beck was a former Stark Employee."
"It's possible. Ever since an Avenger took care of Kingpin, a power vacuum opened up. It allowed anyone to take control of the crime in all of New York. Perhaps, Mysterio's crew does plan on using Kraven to go after her because she's a widow. Her husband died saving the world and what better way to make Mysterio a hero than to kill the man he hated." Daredevil explained.
"So, they're going after a lot of people, mostly due to connections of Mysterio. So how big does the connection go?" Spider-Man asked being concerned.
"I'd say a lot of people. But the real question is, and I did find this out on my end, whose been letting Mysterio's crew have those weapons and why target you, Fury, Potts? The answer could only be simple. A competitor." Daredevil surmised as Spider-Man took note of this.
"Like another organization?" Spider-Man asked, taking all of this info in.
"Kingpin was working with someone named Gao and she was part of an organization called the Hand. An ancient ninja group that has used corporations to make some arrangements for themselves and they were going to take over New York had not me and the Defenders have taken care of them." Daredevil added.
He continued, "So most likely Mysterio's crew is working with someone as dangerous as that. A big man looking at all the production, destruction, etc.… Someone big at the top that doesn't want all of this out. And Mysterio's crew seemed to have their baggage come along with it." He paused and pointed at Spider-Man, "You."
"Me? Because I could expose them," Spider-Man realized.
Daredevil nodded.
"And Mysterio's crew is working with someone in order for them to be in line. And you know who it is?" Spider-Man then asked, not liking where this is going.
"I have no evidence and I was wondering if you could recon with me on this. But I have an idea that the Roxxon Corporation is working with Mysterio's crew on everything." Daredevil suggests.
"Roxxon Corporation? That would make sense cause they're competitors with Stark Industries, but like why? What would they gain from all of this?" Spider-Man asked, perplexed about how big this was going to get.
Daredevil paused and then explained. "The Blip caused a lot of problems. Especially with crime and a lot of companies resorted to criminal activities, like Bishop Security. Corruption ran rampant under Fisk's criminal empire. I can only imagine how enormous it's gotten since Fisk has been taken out of the picture."
"So, Roxxon needed someone else to do their dirty work," Spider-Man added.
"Yes. And much like Fisk, Mysterio's crew runs independent operations outside of Roxxon's control. Plus, they were once infiltrated by the Hand." Daredevil also added.
Spider-Man was astonished at that revelation, and he decided to ask nothing further about the Hand, maybe some other time. "Ok, that's a lot to take in. Anything else? Especially on Kraven."
"Now that's where things get crazier. Last night, I was going to take down the Maggia and interrogate them on where they got the weapons from. And then you came and then somehow Kraven came." Daredevil points out.
Spider-Man made another realization. "Kraven was coming to the Maggia last night, but you and I put a stop to it."
Daredevil nodded again. "Right, and because of that. I had to look into him. I have a good informant on him and he's willing to speak to us. His name is Turk Barret. We'll be meeting him in about 30 minutes if you follow me." He extended his hand out as if to say, 'Let's make an alliance' and Spider-Man was reluctant to give a shake on it.
He didn't want Daredevil to suffer because of his past mistakes, or his irresponsibility. However, he guesses he has no choice in the matter. He too extended his hand out and shook firmly with Daredevil. Trusting him should make things easier in taking care of Roxxon, Kraven, and Mysterio's crew. What a night this is going to be.
"Let's go," Daredevil said as he ran off and began jumping off rooftops. Spider-Man did the same.
Turk was busy walking down the docks as he was expecting a certain hero to come. What he didn't expect was two of them. He stopped by the location Daredevil told him to go to and waited.
THUD!
"Aaah!" He yelped and turned to see Daredevil land on the docking shipment and jumps off it to be next to him.
"Don't do that!" Turk yelled in anger.
Daredevil smirked. "It's ok. You should also meet my new friend."
Turk started to go off, "What new—" But closed his mouth as soon as he saw him, Spider-Man. His jaw dropped to the floor.
"Holy shit!" He started to pace in a circle whether out of nervousness or fanboyism, the two heroes didn't know.
"You know I like to thank you for letting me meet Spider-Man," Turk said with glee. "I mean I never thought I get the chance to meet—"
"Turk," Daredevil cleared his throat.
Turk chuckled out of embarrassment and apologized. He started to sound serious, "Alright, let's get down to business. What y'all wanna know?"
"You have information on a man called Kraven the Hunter. Tell us everything you know?" Daredevil demanded.
Turk winced at the name. He began, "Yeah everyone's heard of him."
"Everyone?" Spider-Man asked.
"Think the worst of the worst. Mercenaries, assassins, hitmen, etc.… they've all heard of him," he gulped. "The things they say about him make it seem like he's…. a myth…. A ghost…... someone that should've died a long time ago."
Daredevil and Spider-Man looked at each other, then back at Turk. A question popped into their heads. Is he telling the truth?
Turk continued, "I cannot call Kraven by his real name. The guy scares the shit out of me. I do know some information about him. No reports. No nothing. Only rumors. He travels a lot, especially in Africa. I've heard stories of him taking on Wakanda and surviving. It is even said he took down a rhino."
Spider-Man amused, "Anyone can take an animal out with a gun, even rhinos. What makes him different?"
Daredevil glared at his fellow hero, but even he had to wonder why Turk was talking about Kraven taking a rhino down with a gun.
Turk sighed. "It wasn't with a gun. It was with his… bare hands…."
A chill ran down the heroes' spines.
"He's that strong…" Daredevil said with his mouth agape.
"Again rumors… something happened to him on one trip. I don't know what the trip was about or why he was there but ever since it happened, he's been calling himself Kraven the Hunter." Turk added.
"What happened to him exactly?" Spider-Man asked although he was still not getting over the fact Kraven took down a rhino with his bare hands.
"No one knows, but it was bad enough for him to declare hunts against any beast for him to challenge. You see Kraven doesn't do what he does for money, for the kill, or even for power," Turk shook his head and then sighed.
"He does it for the challenge, for the hunt. And you," he gestured to Spider-Man, "are the one he's hunting."
"Do a lot of criminals know about him? How would you even get information on him?" Spider-Man asked, going off on a tangent but stopping himself waiting for Turk's answer.
"Look… all I know is some group from that Mysterio guy that died last year started to make some moolah," he said while making gestures with his hand for money, "by selling weapons and that Spidey here was getting to them. Every bad guy you can think of knows him spread rumors. And rumors of Kraven spread like wildfire. Everyone in New York City is scared of Kraven, to go even near him. Once he's out, you better get out of his way."
Daredevil nodded, "Is that all?"
"No, I have more. There were rumors that Kraven might not be what he seems. I don't know what it is exactly, but there's like a file on him that cannot be found even through hacking. Again rumors." Turk explained.
"Why is his file not available?" Daredevil asked.
"I don't know, maybe the government wants him out, maybe he's having a fresh start in his hunting life, again that file, everyone wants their hands on it. It's practically something that could expose him and maybe he keeps it under wraps for himself. However, without that file, it's like he doesn't exist on record." Turk explained.
Peter's lips twitched underneath his mask. He couldn't help but feel Kraven was just like him only without the scary, hunting gimmick. He then wondered about the trip Turk mentioned, did he lose someone for him to go on this path of hunting? Did he lose someone because of what he tried to do and failed? It was best to not think about that now and focus what him and Daredevil are going to do next.
"So, we have someone that's like a ghost, who doesn't want to be found," Daredevil surmised.
Turk nodded. "Yep, but it's like this. Kraven has been known for his mystery. No one knows exactly a damn thing about him other than the rhino shit. No one knows how exactly he hunts or other methods he might use. He's unpredictable as the rumors say. And even then, rumors about him are sketchy at best."
Daredevil nodded, "Ok. Anything else?"
Turk shook his head, "That's all I have to say. You didn't hear this from me." He walked away, pacing fast away from the duo vigilantes.
Daredevil turned to Spider-Man and said, "I think it's best we go home. Pick up where we left off from tonight."
"Oh, but the night is young. I mean there could be criminals running." Spider-Man pointed out.
"You didn't hear Turk, did you? Kraven might scare them away because of who he is. I think it's best if we go back to our homes and rest. Pick up more info," Daredevil said sternly.
Spider-Man groaned and then accepted defeat. "Alright, fine. Same time tomorrow?"
Daredevil nodded and went off his way. Spider-Man sighed and quipped, "Where do all these guys come from?"
He jumped, shot a web to any building close by, and swung away. The rest of the night was rather calm and his spider-sense didn't warn of anything… well anything yet to occur.
He lands on the rooftop of apartment building and wall-crawls down to his apartment window which was left open and then he closes the window with his foot like he used to do when he was with May in their old apartment before the Blip happened and they had to move from that place into a new one. He was on the ceiling and landed lightly on his feet, putting his hand on the wall to slow his momentum, and not crash through the floor.
He took off his mask and costume, had a quick shower, and went to bed.
So yeah originally I was going to have Turk mention Roxxon being up to some shady stuff and have Daredevil and Spidey do a little recon work, but I felt it was going to overflow this part and plus I don't have the energy to write all of that as of yet, so next part (ok maybe not exactly next part, but we'll see) will have more spidey and daredevil interaction and action.
